The premise of this story is interesting. I love stories about the Coast Guard and especially ones that are new and different. Mahalia Levey’s story is different and refreshing. I felt like I was right there in the thick of things with Lark and Acer each time they went out in the copter. The tension and passion were equally palpable.

I liked the hero in this story. He had issues — not wanting to turn into his father. I could relate to his inner struggle. He wanted to be the best without sacrificing and letting his family down. There were times when he wasn’t my favorite. He was blunt and pushy, but at the same time it was endearing. When he and Lark got together, it was dynamite. He wasn’t ready to admit he cared more than he should’ve for her, but I felt it at full force.

Lark was a conundrum for me. She was tough as nails with her crew, pushing them to be the best and to strive for more. But when it came to her personal life, she played with fire and came across as a bit wishy-washy. I liked her in the submissive position, but when she made decisions late in the story, I was a bit disappointed. I wanted to see her be a bit tougher. Still, she did what she needed to do and it worked for her.

If you want a story that’s nothing like you’ve read before, then you need to grab a copy of Embrace the Moment. I give it 3.5 cherries.
