Jack Greene’s characters are intriguing because they aren’t perfect. In this story, they are more developed and easier to relate to. I wanted to see both characters get out of their sad situations and find the happily ever after they deserved. Ashton got my attention immediately because of his artsy background. He wanted to get back to his photography and with Hayden as the subject, he saw the beauty in things again. It was like it was his reawakening to the world. Hayden matched him, where Ashton was quiet and reserved, Hayden was more flamboyant, but I loved it. He wore his heart on his sleeve and his emotions out for everyone to see. It was refreshing to see a character with faults that I still loved.
There is a lot going on in this tale that I didn’t expect. The little things going on—Ashton’s wife, Chad, the bully, and Ashton’s struggle with his identity, kept me right in my seat.
