After a memorable meeting with a bull, Zack Warren ends up recuperating on Four Winds, the ranch that belongs to Brett Miller. After years spent following the rodeo, he is surprised to find out he likes ranch life and even more that he likes the attractive, openly gay ranch owner.

Brett can deal with being attracted to Zack—that is, if Zack wasn’t attracted to him in return. A bar fight Zack is involved in causes a rift between them, which leads to a dare that ends in hot sex and more questions for both of them.

Then someone tries to kill Brett. They quickly learn who, and Zack starts to relax—until the night the killer comes back to finish the job.

Zach is a broken down rodeo star, who–after suffering a serious injury–decides to go back home. Zach is an interesting character; he has never thought of men in a sexual way but is starting to question his feelings for the owner of the Four Winds ranch. To read about this rough cowboy melting into a pile of goo whenever he’s around Brett was really sweet, yet frustrating.

Brett is a gay man who, on the outside, comes off as nonchalant about what others think of him. He is a strong character; living on a ranch as a gay man isn’t easy with other people’s prejudice but he has made a good life for himself, and his ranch the Four Winds is successful. The chemistry between these two men is apparent yet they are constantly fighting it. They both are struggling with what they want and what is the right thing to do. When they do come together it’s a steamy love scene; very memorable. Zach mentally fights his attraction until the very last moment. What grows between them surprises them both. While living a peaceful life on the ranch, with neither man wanting to rock the foundation of this uncertain relationship, a threat is aimed at Brett. When the danger is brought to the forefront their true feeling are made known, but is it something Brett and Zach are ready to accept?

Overall this was an enjoying read. There were some places I had to reread a sentence for it to make sense and some of the dialogue seemed too properly spoken for cowboys and a little unrealistic at times. These issues are just small things though, and nothing that kept me from enjoying the story.
