Actually, I know because I read the books out of order which allows me to say that this book can actually be a standalone read. Because Zig and Karma are secondary characters, this book presents them as separate people with different goals, conflicts, suspense and quirks than the regular novels in the series. Harmonized just takes place in the same town but this hero and heroine have something the others lack – history. It’s rich, poignant, convoluted and heart wrenching.

The premise is sort of classic – someone makes the choice to end things because of a greater issue. The choice was made with the passionate, impetuous assurance of youth, also known as being a martyr. The worst part is that they were wrong. The best part is that it forced them to grow as a person and the resulting strength of character is something a person can respect.

When Zig and Karma reunite, a reader can almost feel the passion simmering. Sooner or later love’s undertow drags them together and they have to face the truth – their love never died. I enjoyed that.

The suspense, action and drama stems from Karma’s use of her gift. There’s a toddler at risk and time is running out. I found the choice of illness interesting because I’d never heard of it. I also appreciated the detailed handling of all the steps Karma and Zig took to search and rescue the child. I was figuratively glued to my chair. This story was an incredibly fast read for me because although it was a novella, it was the fact that I couldn’t stop reading that made time go so fast and the book end too soon. What an amazing tale!

Harmonized was a wonderful reading experience. Ms. Behre showed me that there are a lot more fascinating and intriguing facets to life in Tidewater and it’s whetted my appetite for further adventures. Zig and Karma are fun when they’re together and not dealing with drama. I enjoyed getting to know them and I had a great time. It’s a definite recommended read.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I decided to read this novel. I wasn’t bored, I wasn’t left unaffected and I sure as heck am glad I’m reading about the stuff that went on instead of seeing it for real. I think Mr. Teel, Jr.’s writing about criminals is like what Stephen King does for horror – leaves a lasting impression and horrifies while weaving a tale that one can’t step away from.

I ended up classifying this book as an erotic based on the three way relationship between one of the characters and two women. Also, the fact that a few of the deviants in the story got off on voyeurism while they did what they did was another reason I labeled it thus. However, this is first and foremost a mystery, and a murder mystery at that. And, this is a novel about one man on a crusade against the vilest of the vile, the most heinous and inhumane of human beings, and reading about them kept me on the edge of my seat.

The one thing that the author wanted to make crystal clear, and was abundantly successful, is making a reader believe that the method of death meted out by the Iron Eagle was warranted. Sure, Steve, the FBI guy, wanted the investigations of the crimes done by the book but, there’s a gray area that he sort of teeters on. Then there’s Jim, who actually is more open about accepting that what the Iron Eagle is doing isn’t such a bad thing, even when he duplicates the horrors done to victims onto the perpetrators themselves. It was extremely difficult to read because the author was highly graphic in his details. There is rape and torture and other extremely violent behaviors but it’s recounted in a manner to get the reader on the Eagle’s side. And, for me, it worked. Yes, I cringed a lot, and took a lot of breaks, too because some descriptions were horrendous and uncomfortable to read but that’s the point. Those creeps were under the radar, killing with seeming impunity, and until the Iron Eagle put the clues together and acted, no one was going to stop them.

What I liked were the surprises. I thought that I was going to be left with the mystery of trying to figure out who the Iron Eagle was but that was actually shared with the reader part way through. And I asked myself, why? Turns out there’s a cold case that is the whole impetus for the book. That’s the real mystery and eventually, although I wasn’t too keen on the cold and precise manner in which retribution was delivered, I ended up being very sympathetic to the Iron Eagle. I didn’t expect that.

Dialogue was dark, dangerous, powerful, gritty and incredibly effective. The characterization of both Steven and Jim were not written as touchy feely, getting to know you and your emotions type of detail, but were written as hard bitten, professional and driven. They are men who are extremely fallible with vices, profanity laden speech and yet take pride in the jobs they do. They really are the good guys, with a dark edge. But no one is as dark as the Iron Eagle. I eventually find out why and it broke my heart.

The ending was profound. As much as the author went into great gory detail with the initial few serial killers, when the final moment of reckoning came it was just a tiny teensy bit more anti-climactic than I expected. And you want to know why? Because I wanted the bad guy to suffer more, to pay harder for what was done to all the victims, and in my estimation, he wasn’t. In that I guess even I have a little bit of vigilantism in me. Imagine that.

Rise of the Iron Eagle is dark, gritty, compelling and powerful. It’s not a comfortable read but it’s potent, gripping, exciting and any other word you can think of to describe a book that makes a person read through their fingers because they alternately want to hide but can’t help but continue to read all at the same time. Believe it or not, there might even be a romance relationship coming out of this horror. Talk about unconventional. It’s not the focus but it sure made me happy that even with all this death and atrocity, love could still be found. Yet, even as one case comes to a satisfying closure, the author dangled a surprising carrot. I might need to fortify myself with cotton candy and fluff, but I definitely would read the next book in the series. Mr. Teel, Jr. has a commanding story-telling voice and Rise of the Iron Eagle is proof. Check it out and see, if you dare.

The basic premise is one done before; youngest son tries to measure up to the expectations of a powerful parent and competes and loses to the overachieving elder siblings and the youngest never seems to do anything right. I have a lot of sympathy for Wes, the hero. Not only does he want to succeed and make his family proud, he has to contend with his reading disability. There are so many reasons to like Wes, and very few not to.

The difference is that the powerful parent is actually a good guy. He really does love his son so it was refreshing not to have to deal with that kind of family conflict. As for Wes’ mega-successful older siblings, they never appear on stage – I get the feeling that there is no animosity between them, just a fervent wish on the hero’s part to be successful in his own right. It sounds like he has a great family, and it wasn’t until the very, very end that I found out it’s a family with secrets. Wow, did my mouth hang open upon that realization! Talk about saving that extra fancy firework for the last hurrah in an amazing finale. I can assure you I was grinning from ear to ear.

Even though the majority of this novel is about Wes and his finding his own path and self-actualization, he isn’t the only star. Morgan is the heroine that readers will aptly come to the conclusion of being hapless, much to her aunt’s dismay and annoyance. The aunt is a very twisted soul and yet, in her own perverted way, I think she really does love her niece – she just has an unhealthy way of expressing it. Morgan, it turns out, isn’t as hapless or as helpless as a reader is lead to believe and that bumped up the story another notch on the ‘cool’ scale. However, I too would draw the line at gummy bugs come to life. What a master stroke of devious imagination. Ick!

One thing I’m absolutely happy about is the little electrical zings between Wes and Morgan. I don’t know if it will actually turn into a romance but they sure were in ‘serious like’ with each other. I know I am in like with them. J

Secondary characters are absolutely fascinating. Mr. Cash totally hoodwinked me because quite a few are not at all how they are initially portrayed. Only at the right time, when it benefited the story most, did the author whisk away the figurative tablecloth to magically reveal astounding truths, magic and connections. The condensing of the action into a tight well written couple of chapters filled with chases, attacks, magic fights and zooming witches, animated inanimate objects and colorful descriptions just blew me away. I just loved the flow of this novel.

The point of view is mostly told from Wes’ side, but Morgan has her moments as well as her aunt. The head-hopping was kept at a minimum however, so when it did occur, it was valuable and appreciated.

All in all, if you are looking for something different that entertains, amazes, impresses and surprises, Witches Protection Program will give you all that and more. It’s funny, clever, witty and smart. It’s action packed, fast moving and a fun conflict. It would make a great movie and if it stayed true to the book? I’d pay to see it. I enjoyed Witches Protection Program that much.

Lori is the heroine and she’s a good fit for Paul. She’s strong, confident, and as hot for the hero as he is for her. The fireworks between them sizzle and pop and Ms. Spear always satisfies when she writes those sexy scenes. SEAL Wolf Hunting has plenty to thrill readers.

The secondary characters are important and helpful when they need to be to get Paul and Lori through scenes of drama, action, heartfelt introspection or just being with family and friends. The book has a good feeling about it.

I guess the only part I rolled my eyes at was the conflict regarding the cabin. Lori came across as not as smart as she thinks she is. Her “I handled it” or thinking she could handle it was so not true and eventually it took a situational 2 X 4 to make her understand how wrong she was. I found her attitude annoying and I’m so glad Paul was a man’s man and didn’t kowtow to her. Lori is a strong female lead, there’s no question about that, but she needs someone who won’t let her get away with being stupid, and Paul’s her man.

There’s a lot of good drama in the background with a crime mystery to solve to spice things up. The villains were perfectly villainous and unredeemable so what happens to them is justified.

When I said the book had a good feeling about it, I wasn’t exaggerating. What Lori does exceptionally well is build family. It was a key component to her success as a heroine. Her heart was always in the right place and I got a sense that she had a lot of love to share; Paul wasn’t the only recipient, but he sure was the best one. The happy ever after is touching, sweet and an ending that signifies a beginning. I really liked that.

SEAL Wolf Hunting was fun to read and a nice addition to the series. There’s no question it’s a standalone read so even new fans will find it enjoyable and worth checking out. It’s a definite recommend.

If he kept everyone at arm’s length, no one could guess his problem. The hero has ginormous trust issues and suspects everyone’s motives. It’s not a wonder he wants to quit being king. But the thing of it is, eventually, the author redeems her hero because I came to understand just how emotionally damaged he was. From the time his mother died his life was harsh and he was unloved. He did not receive any gentleness or understanding from his father and in turn, Casimiro became a block of ice to shut out all the pain. That makes what Melissa accomplishes in the story truly remarkable. And why her having his child is a blessing and his saving grace.

Even though there is a lot to enjoy in this story, I didn’t like the hero for most of it. I didn’t like his arrogance or his cruelty towards Melissa. Nor did I like how she came across as a victim in some scenes. Yes, I did come to like the hero but that was towards the end, when he finally understood how important it was to face feelings and not shut them off or run away from them. Melissa stood up for herself and being intuitive was able to navigate the pitfalls of the hero’s damaged ego. In that, the heroine showed her strength. As far as I’m concerned, the balance of the romance was lopsided and it wasn’t as good as it could have been.

On the upside, their physical relationship was healthy and the writing was spicy. I liked the scenes with Ben because they were so cute. And, the wrap up happy ever after was satisfying and complete.

On the whole, His Majesty’s Child was a good read. A reader will find a solid romance within its pages and there are many scenes that make this story pleasant and entertaining. It’s a quick read and it flowed well so I’d recommend it for fans of Harlequin romances because Casimiro is their typical alpha hero that needs saving. It’s worth a look.

This novel actually picks up where the previous one, Embrace the Wind left off. Regan was kidnapped and no one knew how or where to find her. Since the evil fae isn’t known for her kindness or mercy, it was a given that Regan was either dead or about to be, so Ian’s reaction at the end of the previous book was surprising. Fast forward to Embrace the Hunt and the reason why becomes a lot clearer yet more mysterious and convoluted at the same time. It’s an attention grabber.

The author wastes no time and putting a reader into the middle of the action. An impossible rescue is about to happen and help comes from an unexpected source. In fact, on an aside, I just found out that the reason for the success of this escape inspired a new novella coming soon, so I’m all aquiver with excitement! But, back to Ian and Regan. There is a definite love/hate, push/pull dynamic going on and a reader feels their torment, especially Regan’s. I understood Ian’s POV but I couldn’t understand how it could be so firm and fresh after all these years – until the great revelation. The revealed truth warranted use of a fainting couch. Never could I have imagined the scope of the villain’s treachery. Ms. Roane did have Regan suspect something but at the same time, the heroine was just as susceptible as the hero to the veil of deceit. So tragic and sad, yet a perfect plot conflict.

Davido showed up in this installment like he has in others in the series but this time, it was just to provide a breather. Both Davido and his wife, who are very likeable and fun to read about, guide just a little bit but this time they leave the heavy and hard stuff up to Ian and Regan to wade through and figure out. It was a smart way to write it because Regan and Ian’s working together proved that there is something stronger between them that they needed to discover, embrace and use all on their own for it to be effective and as powerful as it could be. There is no doubt though that I enjoy it whenever Davido and Vojalie visit the current hero and heroine. At least this time, they weren’t used as a plot crutch. The conflict in Embrace the Hunt is strong and effective and the main characters’ personalities carried the burden of all the drama and suspense on their own.

Embrace the Hunt is also sexy, sultry and flaming hot when Ian and Regan succumb to their passions. Yes, being a Blood Rose inspires a greater need and lust but what delights me is that in this book, the Blood Rose effect only exacerbates a hot passion that existed prior to its development. Ian and Regan are explosive together and I enjoyed every one of their kisses and clinches.

Embrace the Hunt should not be missed, especially by fans of the series. It’s gripping, action packed and has quite a few surprises in store for readers. The quality of writing is solid and the dialogue is entertaining. I can’t think of a single thing that didn’t work for me. This is a cute little story that explores another version of the one night stand with consequences scenario. What makes it enjoyable is the heroine, Angel. My favorite scene early in the book was Alex’s recounting of how he first met her. It was so romantic. What follows is his trying to win Angel over and her confounding him and resisting him, sometimes not so successfully, through the rest of the story. It was fun.

The one thing that stands out about the heroine is her refusal to accept any help from Alex. She’s independent and proud to be supporting her daughter. She’s a mom first and that’s something to respect.

As for how she’s depicted in the novel, Angel is likeable and chatty with a sharp and funny wit. It’s the head-hopping from her to Alex that slowed the pace of the story. The heroine talks to herself a lot and is very conflicted. Inasmuch as I liked hearing from both her and Alex’s point of view, the delivery was enough to throw me or slow my reading pace down dramatically.

Alex was a typical HQ hero – manly, confident, competent, sensual, commanding, and one prone to assumptions, critique and an issuer of orders. Such is the alpha male that everyone kowtows to, except the heroine. She is exactly what he needs, and why he fights so hard against the truth. The truth is – that one night’s connection all those years ago left an indelible mark on his heart but Alex is too stubborn and afraid to acknowledge it or pursue it. It’s his body’s memory of her that propels him like a moth to a flame and it’s easy for him to categorize it as only a physical attraction and deny the rest. Yet, as certain situations arise, a reader sees little by little how Angel, by just being herself, works the rest of her way into his heart and helps him navigate the guilt from the past so he can emotionally move forward in his life. It’s a powerful component of the plot and it works.

One of the scenes described was about Angel’s friend Clara. I have no idea why that gave me the giggles; I think it was how the author wrote the scene. Certainly I snickered quite a bit afterwards. The most profound scene occurred when Angel and Alex finally talk, finally put all the cards on the table, and I could not have asked for a better response from a hero than what Alex told her after the big reveal. That is what romance stories are all about.

A Secret Until Now is a classic styled HQ romance that entertains and engages a reader. There are the requisite personal struggles and conflicts they have to overcome and together, the heroine and hero come out stronger and more whole through the healing power of love. It’s worth reading and I enjoyed it.

Saidh has a sharp sword and an even sharper tongue and isn’t afraid to use it, much to my great amusement.

Greer is the hero and as a man, I liked him. As a hero, he certainly filled the role nicely. He too, is unconventional. The story sometimes was told through his point of view as well. He’s not the type to demean a woman but to celebrate her strengths and respect them. He still believes that a woman has her place in the keep, at a man’s side and in his bed, but it’s tempered with appreciation for what a woman, a lady, brings to the relationship. Because of that attitude his reaction wasn’t the same as other men’s which threw off Saidh time and time again. I liked that he could surprise her. Then again, some of his surprises were a bit silly and fun – like the part with the letter. When I think about it, it was a rather sweet, impetuous and goofy thing for him to do but seeing he was thinking with the wrong body part, well, that just made it adorable. Of course Greer couldn’t know just what kind of Pandora’s Box he opened by doing that. The story was good and solid before that, but after? Giggles galore and a rapid uptake in the plot momentum.

There were some important secondary characters that ran the gamut of my liking or my distrusting them in equal measure. As the mystery comes close to being solved, truths and secrets are revealed. One is sad, the other interesting and one is shocking. This book is truly a fascinating page turner.

I think the one thing that bothered me was that I could never figure out how to pronounce the heroine’s name. It was like a thorn in my brain. I settled on Sadie and my brain was happy with that. Another thing that I question was Alpin. Do eight year olds really have that kind of introspection and wisdom? If I hadn’t been told his age, I would have guessed his age as more tween than anything.

All in all, The Highlander Takes a Bride is a novel that delivers a suspense filled story making the romance that much more powerful. Both Greer and Saidh prove their mettle to each other by overcoming and dealing with the many conflicts, threats and surprises that come their way. There’s a lot of humor and cuteness to soften the harshness of their situation which is a strength in this novel. My favorite part is when Saidh is introduced to physical pleasure by Greer. Her response is delightful and her enthusiasm totally grin-worthy. Watching them fall in love is a ton of fun.

The Highlander Takes a Bride gets a huge and happy recommend from me. It’s great entertainment.

However, the author gave Kacie an interesting personality and she kept the plot line moving at a progressive pace. The panty thing started off because the heroine needed money, but the story takes off when she finds her groove and discovers a hidden talent. I enjoyed how she started off giggling and then turned into a suave business woman. Success comes in many levels and forms and I found this premise quite novel, if a bit strange. It was Adam who shook her out of her eventual cynical funk and the ending showed a promising future with the two of them together. I’m thinking Adam is just as quirky and kinky as Kacie turned out to be. But I’ll let readers figure out why that is. Let’s just say that I think they’re perfect for each other. I’m grinning as I wrote that last sentence.

This story sure is different and it was kind of fun. It was also interesting watching Kacie figure out just how many people out there not only have a panty fetish, but have extremely specific ways of enjoying their panty passions. Orson and Casey are the lovers who have to navigate tradition in order to find their happy ever after. The one standing in the way isn’t who I initially thought it was and I enjoyed that revelation.

The author set up the conflict rather well early on, and then introduced the players and the romance. I enjoyed how the shifter’s hearing played a role and the importance of food to the romance. I liked the bits of humor and camaraderie between Casey and her boss, and Orson and Cleo. I also found the bit of world building that the author provided to be sufficient in making why things happened the way they did believable and understandable without being an info dump.

There weren’t too many secondary characters to keep track of. The ones in the story play important roles that help set up the couple’s relationship, or try to dash it. This is basically a character driven romance with the only outside conflict coming from the person who didn’t want Orson to marry or mate, Casey. The confrontation scene was sparse on space but well done on content. What I mean is, it happened fast but the writing gave me everything I needed to feel the drama and excitement of the moment without making me feel like I got cheated. It was well paced and powerful.

As this is an erotic short story, this little book has lots of steamy, sexy and wildly passionate scenes to satisfy anyone who likes erotic paranormal stories. Casey isn’t shy, and Orson basically thinks she’s the crème to his bear puff. They’re exuberant and fun and I really liked them as a couple.
