What I mean about a light plot conflict is that there are no evil villains and nefarious intrigues, rather, The Viscount and the Vixen has a heroine who is faced with a dilemma that causes her to embark on a courageous and possible dangerous path that could be her salvation or her downfall. It’s a secret that could destroy everything she’s trying to build and the secret could rob her of the very thing she thought she’d never have – love. Ms. Heath presents readers with a strong female heroine that is absolutely perfect for the hero, even though it takes him a while to admit to it.

This is a character driven romance; it’s engaging, entertaining and simply told. The author created two people who had to grow, be nurtured and learn to trust beyond their initial impressions of each other. That journey was made even more interesting by the fact that Killian could not seem to keep his hands off of Portia. I thoroughly enjoyed the healthy and robust talk about sex that had either Killian or Portia blushing, sometimes at the same time. The fact that Killian’s father was unabashed about it as well made for many grins and giggles especially with Locke’s (a/k/a Killian) reaction to realizing his parent enjoyed a healthy bedroom romp when he was a younger man as well. In fact, as adorable as it was, it was also bittersweet. A reader will understand why that is, and why even getting to talk about it is actually very special and sweet.

Of course, the secret comes out, and although part of the reaction was typical, Ms. Heath added her own twist to solving it that was both gratifying, well written and satisfactory. Dare I say, it was even swoon-worthy.

A truly delightful part of their relationship was the seduction. Killian didn’t stand a chance. Their antics are spicy, sensual, passionate and, although the hero denied it in the beginning, loving. Of course it was adventurous too, and quite a few scenes made me smile. Portia has quite the wit, even at times you’d least expect.

My emotions really got a work out when it came to Killian’s father. He was actually a smart man who dearly loved his family. I needed a few tissues when it came to him. Even now, when I think of that scene, I sniffle and have to grab another tissue. When it comes to matters of the heart and reaching out and touching a reader’s feelings, Ms. Heath outdid herself in a beautiful way.

I have no qualms in highly recommending this novel to fellow historical romance fans. The romance story within its pages is solid, well told and progresses at a nice clip. It ended up being a feel good type of book that I am always glad to read but don’t often find. This story didn’t cause me any stress or worry, and any conflict did not plague the characters overlong. It’s well balanced and charming and the happy ever after is well rounded, complete and included everything I look for to make me satisfied. The Viscount and the Vixen made me a happy reader.

The book has many points of view but it’s focused on the three sisters of Sienna, Rachel and Courtney and their interesting heroes of Greg and Quinn. The tricky romance between Courtney and Quinn is the most prominent because Courtney has the biggest secret and the most to overcome. Quinn is really good for her and he’s a hunk. The spiciest scenes occur between the two although eventually Rachel and Greg surpass them with one wonderfully important moment, and even that inspired a few giggles later on.

Rachel’s romance with Greg is the hardest because there’s a history to overcome. By the same token, it’s the most rewarding because they’re just so good for and with each other that I was cheering for them throughout the book. I liked their chemistry. Even though they had some serious issues to work through, I could see the love still burned between them. They both had to face their flaws and faults, own them and then have the courage to go from there. I enjoyed how the author put them through their paces.

Sienna’s story was focused more on her finding her inner strength and believing in making choices that are best for her and not what others expect or demand. Readers will eventually clue in on who is the right person and I like the gentleness of the revelation. As far as I’m concerned, Sienna had a narrow escape because the guy could have put her in a position of being like the very women she’s made her life’s mission to help. I could see that and I was rooting for her to not to fall in love. Isn’t that weird? For a character that seemed to be the strongest, she was actually the weakest. I was fascinated.

The fourth woman is the girls’ mom, Maggie. I can empathize with her more than I thought possible. Why? Because my MIL had that same kind of influence on my wedding as Maggie’s mom did to her. Imagine my surprise that I could relate so well with a character even to the point of having pink as the wedding color. Unlike Maggie, I didn’t have to wait for a second marriage to go pink, LOL – nor did I go quite to the extremes she did. I mean, really, kazoos? Crack me up. As a backdrop, Maggie and Neil’s wedding was a delightful story arc and made the story a delight to read.

The one thing that is solid and enduring throughout Daughters of the Bride is the sense of family, love, affection, forgiveness and caring. The novel is a book that makes a person feel good once the final page is read. All their life threads, though intricately interwoven, are tied up nicely with happy ever afters that are satisfying, are believable and leave a warm afterglow. Oh, and I’d be remiss not to mention the bees. For some reason I thought them to be a perfect comedic foil. Love the name!

A yummy surprise is the inclusion of recipes at the end. For those that want the book glow to continue, you can create a food memory to go along with the storyline.

Daughters of the Bride is a novel written from the heart. It’s about relationships and love mixed up with quirky mishaps making it relatable, believable and engaging. This is a well written, amazing book that is not to be missed. If a reader has never read a book by Ms. Mallery, then this is a wonderful book to start with. I really enjoyed it.

This is quite the fascinating historical romance. Of course there is a wonderful and well written romance to enjoy, but it’s the surprising betrayals that affect both Sarah, the heroine, and Gavin, the Duke of Baynton that truly set this novel apart.

I liked how the author set up the scene in the first chapter – both main characters had their reasons for being in the same place but they are as far removed in goals as one could be. And yet, that one event set the stage for all the intrigue and conflict that would later occur. The breadth and scope of it isn’t even hinted at but once Ms. Maxell set the wheels in motion, the story takes off and I was thoroughly entertained.

I think my favorite aspect of the book is the fact that both Sarah and Gavin were at odds with each other. There’s a strong attraction between the two and it certainly complicated things, but only in the best ways possible. Watching them fall in love with each other was a spectator sport that completely entertained, probably because of the intense lust and sensual buildup as their prickly relationship continued. It started off on rocky footing, and the author introduced so many reasons to feel sympathy for both Sarah and Gavin. Some were downright sad, yet, Sarah is a plucky heroine with a ton of pride, and Gavin is no slouch either. There are sparks, misunderstandings, and when they succumb to their passions, it’s made all the better because Ms. Maxwell’s talent does those scenes justice. I swear, they took turns seducing the other even while trying to resist one another. I can’t help but smile because they think they can ignore true love.

Then of course there’s the conflict. Wow, powerful stuff. I felt so bad for Gavin because as shocks go, it’s a doozy. Gavin’s dealing with it proved without a shadow of a doubt that he meets the criteria of ‘hero’.

Another really good part was Gavin’s relatives. I don’t want to give anything away, but they play an important part in the story. Dame Imogene and his mom are the greatest. I love a happy ending.

A Date at the Alter is historical romance at its best. There is so much depth to the characters that their feelings of fear, anger, uncertainty, lust and passion come to life within the pages, making Sarah and Gavin easy characters to care for and fall in love with. The dialogue is key to understanding their points of view and sometimes it’s even fun and clever. This is a novel worth spending time with and I highly recommend it. Then again, this book has that classic Maxwell touch; what’s not to like?

Talk about a story that twists like a pretzel. Do You Want to Start a Scandal has to be one of the most surprising of stories because it’s not all like I was led to believe. This novel is full of red herrings and goose chases and I was perplexed for most of it because it’s a mystery. However, the means of sleuthing and the reasons for it are unlike any I have ever read and I found it kind of funny.

I don’t think it’s set up as a true mystery; the book is a romance through and through, and a good one. However, the intrepid heroine, Charlotte, is determined to solve the mystery of the garter because in doing so, she’ll be able to clear her reputation. However, as the story goes on, I’m not convinced that she’s convinced that it’s really her goal at all.

I liked Charlotte and her way with words. One of my favorite lines comes her speaking with the hero. She’s not supposed to like him, but what is a reader to think when she accuses the hero of having a “masculine lip elixir”? I totally snorted when I read that.

Another belly laugh came from the part when Charlotte’s mother tried to explain marital bedroom activities using vegetables and fruits. I had a fit of the giggles when the heroine turned the tables on her mom with a bit of creative questioning. I also liked that the heroine was not afraid to show the hero what it’s like to simply have fun, like when she started playing with his hair – the descriptions inspired more giggles. It’s Charlotte’s zest for life, optimism and sense of adventure that is her charm. She’s straightforward, vocal and amazingly sharp-witted. She’s an excellent foil for a serious minded, proper stick in the mud peer who just happens to live a daring and dangerous double life.

Charlotte is oil, Piers is vinegar, and when they mix, they create a spicy blend that flavors the salad of life so well that they simply can’t go back to being who they were before they met. Granted, Piers makes some spectacular blunders and makes me question his judgment, and Charlotte inadvertently gives the wrong impression to another lady of the ton, much to her consternation, and that makes her fallible too. They are not perfect characters but they are perfect together.

I think the only thing that was slightly over the top was Piers’ ability to find a missing bit of cloth that Charlotte desperately wanted found. The where and how of it seemed like an impossibility. Also, I really wished someone would have taken Edmund in hand. The kid was a menace. That child should have been in bed, sleeping.

When the mystery is finally solved, it’s done in a spectacular style with an eye-popping revelation. Somehow, I don’t think anyone in the vicinity of the great revelation will ever forget that night. Certainly I won’t. That scenario was a first for me and I credit Ms. Dare on providing me with a most unique and singular reading experience.

There is no doubt that Do You Want to Start a Scandal is an entertaining, engaging and romantic read. It can boast two strong characters, an interesting mystery twist and a seduction of the senses. There’s humor and clever use of quips and dialogue not to mention delightful descriptions to bring the romance alive for readers. It’s truly a story well worth reading.

This is the second book in the Rakes of Fallow Hall series yet this is a solid standalone read. The overall story arc is the wager between three men. I haven’t read the first book in the series and never once did I feel the lack. This is a fun and entertaining novel all on its own.

There’s humor, witty and fascinating dialogue, and just the right amount of emotional drama to keep a reader engaged page after page. The seduction scenes between Rafe and Hedley are spicy enough to keep a fan nearby just in case. My absolute favorite extravagant and romantic gesture comes from Rafe, he creates something that is so beautiful and unique that the heroine can’t help but believe with all her heart that he truly loves her. It’s actually quite swoon-worthy.

The villains of the piece, the external conflict, actually come from Hedley’s own family. Wow, did Ms. Lorret create some effective despicable characters! I would have turned into a harridan/banshee on Hedley’s behalf. In no way could I have resisted wanting to throttle them for the very act of speaking. Hear me growl.

The Devilish Mr. Danvers should not be missed by readers who enjoy Cinderella themed stories. This one does it justice because this time, the heroine has an active champion to woo and care for her, and through him, others of power who have her back. There are plenty of occasions to cheer for Hedley and Rafe and I encourage historical romance fans to not miss out. Grab a copy and enjoy the ride.

The plot development is woven in a diabolical way and is directly tied to a couple of instances of light seduction and clandestine meetings between Mary and Geoffrey Westmore. West is a rake, a drunk and a wastrel, or so a reader is lead to believe in the beginning.

Here’s the thing – West is actually suffering from what we now call PTSD – and it plays an intriguing and pivotal role in the novel. I liked how the author used the hero to illustrate the many ways in can manifest in a person’s life. It provided excellent conflict and an effective means of connecting and being sympathetic to the hero.

Introverts can possibly relate to Mary because of her absolute love of books and her preference for a secluded garden amongst flowers to while away the time while immersed in a good mystery. I enjoyed watching the heroine emerge from her bookish solitude and into life. I was greatly entertained while watching Mary find out just how different a real life adventure is compared to what was written. Some of those revelations were shocking, amusing, or downright sexy.

The overall plot conflict, the ‘deadly conspiracy’, was a convincing motivation for the drama and momentum of the story and the author orchestrated it perfectly. It also served to showcase just how smart and clever Mary really was, and it provided West with the incentive to finally shake off his profligate ways and become the man he was meant to be. Watching the two of them become better, stronger people because of their being together was quite satisfying and romantic. I really believed that Mary and West were perfect for each other and their chemistry and combustibility when they were together proved it. That, of course, made reading The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel an even better read.

The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel has a story to tell that’s so fun that it makes a reader lose track of time. I can’t even truly impress upon a reader just how much I enjoyed myself as I watched West and Mary fall in love. Even the last final sentence that Ms. McQuiston wrote had me closing the book with a huge grin. Should a reader cheat and skip to the last sentence for a peek, they won’t understand the significance of that statement unless they’d read the whole book. It has MEANING. And, it’s wonderful, saucy and full of pure hope and optimism. Pick up your own copy of The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel and see for yourself why I thought this book so awesome.

Ms. Sands is heading down the road of gritty and suspenseful storytelling if Immortal Nights is anything to go by. There’s a new villain in town. In the previous story, Dante escaped a cage he was put in, and eventually fell in love with Mary, but there was always the worry about his trapped twin, Tomasso, who couldn’t escape with him. Tomasso does eventually escape but not without help and it comes from an unlikely heroine in an unusual location. Meet the stowaway, Abigail. She was a pleasant surprise.

The first part of the novel is about surviving on an island and all it entails. It’s not without some hilarious moments and I cracked up when Tomasso decided on the benefits of vines, which was funny as it is, but add in the ‘crab’ attack and I was rolling on the floor. Now, add in Abby’s penchant for nursing and it was knee slapping hysterical. I really enjoyed reading at that point.

The second part of the storyline dealt with the not so great effects of living on an island in primitive conditions. That introduced emotional conflict, drama and relationship complications. There’s a bit of happiness too, some uncomfortable revelations and a reunion. Fans of the series will recognize the conflict and the humor that comes from it, especially when Lucien shows up. That says it all.

The third and final part of the book is where all the action, suspense, worry, and most of the fast paced page flipping occurred. This is where Abby learns some scary facts about possible motive, and intent of the mysterious doctor. It’s also where she has to do some escaping of her own. Will Tomasso return the favor or will he be too late? The author kept me on tenterhooks waiting to find out about Abby and her companions’ fates.

As fans of the series expect, the scenes where the hero and heroine discover their shared passion as lifemates are well done, and at times highlighted with a bit of humor. I liked Abby’s dialogue about all the places she’s woken up in. I also liked the fact that both she and Tomasso were geeky smart and that they both found it a huge turn on.

The final word comes from the villain himself and it’s creepy as can be. This scene put chills up my spine and made my stomach drop. I recognize that this new plot thread has the capacity to be dark and deviant – I just hope it doesn’t overshadow my favorite Argeneau family. The one thing it did do was insure my undivided loyalty to this series. This is one bad guy I’m going to want to see go down, but the how, when and by whom is what is going to keep me coming back until he gets his comeuppance. I am sure most fans who read that part are going to agree. This series just got an injection of freshness and drama. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Sands does next but Immortal Nights was a great intro and is not to be missed.

I’d read How the Duke Was Won,the first book in The Disgraceful Dukes series and thought that one to be clever and unique so I was really looking forward to If I Only Had a Duke in hopes I’d be equally engaged and amused. I was, completely. This is a 100% standalone read so a new fan can read this one first and not feel left out. This novel is strictly about Thea and Dalton. Charlene, Thea’s half-sister shows up later, but as a secondary character to the events and a sweet touch since they are family.

There are quite a few plot conflicts running simultaneously yet Ms. Bell juggled them with aplomb. I grew to have great respect for Thea and her goals to be free of the yoke of perfection. I admired Dalton’s quest for vengeance and retribution and I liked how Con, Dalton’s friend and co-conspirator, always had the hero’s back, except when it came to Thea. With the heroine, Con acted more like a gruff Cupid combined with a devilish Loki, with an Irish brogue – truly delightful. I giggled quite frequently with the dialogue, both internal and between Thea and Dalton. One of my favorite lines what when she labeled him “The Great Wall of Duke”. I snickered as I typed that. You’ll have to read it to understand why it’s so funny – it’s a cumulative effect.

One of my favorite parts, and there are quite a few, is when Thea stood up to the main harridan; the results are miraculous! Another shocker is the revelation of what truly happened to Dalton’s little brother. I’ve read enough romance stories to guess the real answer but not the whole picture or what happens after that knowledge is gained. I really wanted to hug Dalton at that point. Poor guy – he’s gone through so much already and he’s being hunted on top of it! That underlying bit of suspense always seemed to lurk and pop up when I least expected it. It made for great reading.

The happy ever after is just overwhelmingly wonderful. It’s like Thea’s personality – her refusal to give up, to break or be cowed – just inspired everyone around her to dream bigger, fight harder and not take the first answer as gospel. No one gave up or gave in, well, the good guys at least. The dark characters get their just desserts although the author as a bit light in the details – not that I mind, I found it rather amusing. It was just how Ms. Bell did it.

Yes, If I Only Had a Duke is a whopper of a good tale told with a crisp and engaging style that brings Thea and Dalton to life for readers to enjoy. The sexy shenanigans are saucy, seductive and well-written but I was more entertained with the dialogue, Thea’s opinions and Dalton’s reactions to them. There’s just enough drama and fisticuffs to keep the pages turning, and amusing and silly antics to inspire a reader to grin. I fervently hope that Alice, the secondary character with the most amusingly toxic TMI or waxing poetic about the most obscure scientific gobbledygook, gets her happy ever after too. She wasn’t quite as strong a presence in this story, but Ms. Bell included her just at the right time to remind me how much I thought her amusing. Yes, she’d be an interesting character to match with a duke. I wonder who it will be? I can’t wait until the next book!

So, they both end up falling in love with who they thought they were. The conflict then switches to dealing with their shock in discovering who they really are and how they feel about it.

I adored the introduction of Tommy Teacup and the mad cap Lady Whimple and her wicked enjoyment of scandals. I also liked the additional conflict of reintroducing a damaging secret from Duke of Sin and seeing it resolved quite cleverly in Once Upon a Moonlit Night. I was very proud of both Hippolyta and Matthew.

There’s romance, seduction, fascinating dialogue and a lovely and perfect happy ever after in store for readers of this endearing novella. It’s a fast read, it’s entertaining and I enjoyed every moment. Even if a reader hasn’t had a chance to read the previous book that this novella is spun from, it’s a tale that can stand on its own. Once Upon a Moonlit Night is a treat to read and I heartily recommend it.

Elisabeth’s beginning in life started out classically enough until a fateful day that made the rest of her life completely atypical, fascinating and worthy. Bryson’s life was horrid, beastly and unfortunately out of his control, until it was in his control and all his choices from then on had one goal – to be proper, dutiful and perfectly perfect while being his own person. Both Elisabeth and Bryson had to overcome amazing adversity but the most challenging and daunting choice they will make is whether or not they are well matched in all ways that matter. The conflict comes from them wanting different things while wanting each other in a passionate way that complicated things to no end. The hardest part was resolving the past before they could have a future, and that’s no easy thing. Because of the varied intricacies that Ms. Michaels plagued her characters with, I found this novel an absolutely fascinating read.

When I said that this book was written in a unique way, I wasn’t stating that lightly. The truths that eventually get revealed gob smacked me and practically unhinged my jaw from the shock. It’s a clever bit of storytelling that bowled me over. I never had an inkling of what was coming, nor what Bryson’s ultimate choice would be.

The mystery person that appears towards the end brought a level of emotional angst and poignant feelings to the story. That person also taught Bryson a valuable lesson which will come in handy with dealing with Elisabeth. Ms. Michaels’ inclusion of this character was a stroke of genius.

The Virgin and the Viscount sounds like a simple, basic story but it’s so much more. It has depth of emotion, wonderful dialogue, sympathetic characters and a powerful romance that grew and blossomed before my eyes. I’m being intentionally vague because the impact of the reading experience hinges on a reader having no clue about the amazing story within its pages. I am only willing to say that the romance between Bryson and Elisabeth worked for me, I enjoyed watching them fall in love in all its bumpy glory and the passionate scenes between them were quite spicy and seductive. This is a book well worth reading and spending time with. I enjoy being surprised and Ms. Michaels wildly succeeded in doing so. I give this tale two thumbs up.
