The slow romance that built between Dougall and Murine was delightful, fun and entertaining. I actually enjoyed her fainting spells and Dougall’s responses, I liked the waterfall scenes, well, most of them, I liked his reaction to her wearing pants, and even though the arrow wound was a serious matter, I liked what happened in the story after that. I even giggled when Dougall’s brothers gave him a hard time because they knew before him what was going on.

When the great plot resolution occurred, I actually started feeling bad for one of the bad guys. I thought he might be redeemable because he wasn’t a total lost cause but unfortunately, the plot had to take its due because he was mostly a lost cause. Poor Murine.

And for those readers who enjoy sensual build up and Scottish seduction, I think they’re going to be very pleased. Dougall is no slouch out of his kilt.

Falling for the Highlander is a totally and completely wonderful romantic adventure. I like a strong heroine and Murine proves herself time and time again. There’s so many parts of this novel that are enjoyable it was hard to pick just a few to share. Ms. Sands always makes me feel good about her characters and they’re usually easy to fall in love with. She has once again succeeded in delivering an exciting and well written journey as Murine escapes a dire fate only to discover a love she’d given up hoping for. I’m so happy I read this book and I have no doubt many readers are going to snap up this novel too. It’s great fun.

Grant, the hero, was in a pickle when I first met him. The poor guy was stressed to the max because he had a liver to deliver via surgery but he couldn’t leave his baby sister but he had to get to the hospital but the nanny was late and his sister, Lily, was fussy and he had no idea what to do! Get the picture? The hero needed an intervention. Thing is, there’s more going on with Grant than being the sudden caregiver to a baby sister. It’s why I liked him as a character; the hero had depth and a humanity about him that appealed to me.

Enter Sara, a woman who has a heart of gold but no financial wealth to speak of. A reader can easily recognize a heroine with a lot of love to give because of how she treats her dad, and how baby Lily quickly accepts her. Sara also has some issues to deal with but they are actually honorable and notable; they have also emotionally traumatized her. Now, she’s afraid to take a chance on feeling affection for anyone. It’s rather sad, and an effective reason for a reader to care for and feel sympathy for, the heroine.

The reason Grant and Sara joined forces is a typical romance book reason but it worked for me. I enjoyed how Ms. Carlisle had her characters navigate their attraction. I also liked the scenes that showcased their medical professionalism in moments of crisis. Some of the items Sara gave Grant during one of those dramatic moments made me giggle because it was so unexpected. They really did make a great team.

I was so happy when Grant finally made a move on Sarah. There was a lot of smoldering early on and they both tried to fight it, but as with all fun romance novels, their capitulation was inevitable. Their loving moments were well written, effective and contributed to their growing relationship; they were mildly spicy.

The reason for their decision and urgency finally arrived but the author sort of glossed over it in favor of showing its effect on both Grant and Sara. It caused a predictable rockiness to the romance but no less effective in getting them where they emotionally needed to be. I actually liked how the author wrote it.

Married for the Boss’s Baby was a fun read. I devoured the story in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. I have no problem recommending this book to romance readers. It’s thoroughly engaging.

I wanted him to have his own, personal happy-ever-after because his hurt and pain became very real to me. Ryder is a well written hero.

Katie was more like bubbles and sunshine. She has a serious side to her, absolutely, but it’s balanced with her fascination with all things Ryder. I liked how her past came to a perfect circle with the hero. I enjoyed watching the progression of her puppy love turning into a solid, mature, adult love. Yet, that unsure girl of the past has turned into a woman who combines sexy with charming enthusiasm and confidence, and she knows who she wants. The days of pillow kissing are past, and knocking Ryder’s socks off is her future – if she can get past her own internal conflicts.

I think the strongest asset of this novel is the dialogue between Katie and Ryder. It brought them to life. Then the miracles that take place with the backdrop of the Christmas season are emotionally magical. I don’t mean magic, magic. I mean, when things seem insurmountable, and the emotional conflict is at its most serious, something happens; people change, there are second chances, hope springs eternal and readers are treated to a warm, fuzzy glow when happiness is realized. Being the well written characters that they are, theirs isn’t a perfect happiness. There’s a bit of grumpiness too, but even that was charming.

A Wedding for Christmas embodies what holiday romances are all about and should not be missed. This novel made me smile and made me feel happy. It’s rich, vibrant and filled with all the best things romance has to offer. Don’t miss it!

The djinni world that Ms. Holly has created is always full of surprises and this latest novel, The Angel is no different. The concept of rearranging time isn’t new but what the author did and why contributed to the drama and made this novel worth investigating.

Georgie is the heroine but she’s not typical. What intrigued me was her innate goodness that somehow survived the impossible. I enjoyed how Ms. Holly explored the nurture vs. nature premise. What she came up with initially had me worried but it all worked out, eventually. I actually liked her ‘nurture’ persona more than her initial one. The second one seemed to have more personality and chutzpah, a more lively character. Despite all the influences her guardian threw her way, Georgie had certain elements that were inviolate, though not for lack of trying on Luna’s part.

As for the hero, Iksander, well, I liked him in the beginning and I knew about him from the previous two books but he wasn’t on stage, so to speak, for long. No, the little ball of light named Connor took center stage with Georgie and I liked his character. He was so sweet and earnest yet wise beyond what I expected. He was a refreshing secondary hero and I liked him. As far as I’m concerned, there are two heroes that eventually care a great deal about Georgie and I’m happy with that.

For erotic romance readers, there are many interludes of seduction and delight to behold. The ones described with Georgie were wonderful and well done. The ones described with Luna were used to paint a very clear picture of the wonder that is Georgie amidst the self-serving hedonist that is Luna. Some of the secondary characters that have to deal with Luna aren’t so lucky and I felt bad for a couple of them.

For readers who have a certain deity belief, I want to give a heads up that Ms. Holly borrowed some of the theological elements and manipulated them into this fantasy. As much as I liked Connor, I had a bit of trouble being comfortable with his ‘sexy’ side. It’s not that it isn’t well done, it is. It’s just that those who have a bit of knowledge know that such a thing would not really be possible. The things he did wouldn’t be ‘okay’ if you know what I mean. Once he became more Connor and less ‘other’, it was easier to accept his human side. Yet through it all, he was special, different, and I felt his character contributed a significant amount of heart to the novel.

The paradox that Ms. Holly created demanded a tight hold on all the plot threads and the author did a bang-up job in writing the scenes so they made sense and came together at the right point. I liked the dialogue, many of the secondary characters and the plot conflict. I also appreciated how Georgie resisted perfect vengeance, but she did choose an action and I thought it apropos. Ultimately, the story has an HFN (happy for now) ending. Georgie is happy, Connor is happy and Iksander is hopeful.

The Angel has all the best elements that Ms. Holly is known for. It’s seductive, sexy and hard to put down. The plot has depth, substance and intrigue. I don’t think a new reader will be terribly lost if they read The Angel before the other two books. This one focuses directly on Georgie, what happens to her, and who she falls for. For a certainty, this book is entertaining, is worth checking out and absolutely hooked me into wanting to read the next novel. I simply have to know what’s going to happen next. Knowing Ms. Holly’s writing, it’s sure to be another winner.

Both Austin and Corrine have some pretty convincing internal conflicts to overcome. Also, a reader is taken on an in depth exploration of the challenges to becoming an astronaut. The trials and tribulations are daunting. Those that make it have earned it, with interest. The author even throws in some external calamities that show readers the strengths and weaknesses of the main characters. Those crises were short in duration but effective.

I realize that Austin is hard on himself. He pushes his limits and has to ace everything, and I do mean everything, in order to make the program. I guess that is what bothers me about this story – he’s too perfect. He never slips up. He’s so confident and savvy consistently that I had a hard time believing in his perfection. Does that make sense? It took a while for the author to bring up something that made him seem more approachable and believable. It works for the most part but I would have enjoyed a bigger tug on my emotions by his character.

The one thing I totally enjoyed was their blossoming romance and how they really were good together. I liked how they brought out the best in each other, of course that’s after they figure out that they ARE better together than apart.

The Doctor’s Baby Secret has a satisfying happy ending and the novel was entertaining. I liked that they found a dream they could pursue together while being true to themselves. This is a nice story and worth checking out.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this story because I just knew it was going to be great. I’m pretty sure this could be read as a standalone read but it’s even better for fans of the series. Why? Because of Alf, of course. After a while we all figured out who, or better yet, what Alf was but to have that character get a happy ever after is a real treat. The fact that the hero is Hugh, who I met in a previous story, is another hook that I’m all too happy not to resist. He is a man with depths.

I can happily say that I’m thrilled with this novel. I liked how Alf was such a strong heroine; she was spunky, mischievous, and skilled with a sword. I enjoyed watching her slowly change from a survivor to a woman in love. There was so much to admire about her character that I think she’s become one of my favorite leading ladies. Her soft heart was in evidence whenever she dealt with the young children in the story. Alf truly touched my heart.

Hugh is a complicated man. His lineage is intriguing, his job is fascinating and for all the power he holds, he is powerless to help his own kids. He doesn’t stop trying, he doesn’t stop loving and the author’s choice of words to describe some of the scenes between them were all heartbreaking and tender.

Duke of Pleasure is an emotionally rich story and is a credit to Ms. Hoyt’s skill as a storyteller. I was wowed.

A word to the wise, this book can also steam your glasses, if you wear them. I chose spicy as the heat level but it was a toss-up. There were a couple of scenes that were quite possibly hotter than a habanero pepper, but it might have seemed that way because I really liked the dynamics between Alf and Hugh; she was innocent, he was not, but, she wasn’t demure and shy, oh no, Alf was pragmatic and a quick learner to the point of enthusiasm. Hugh didn’t stand a chance.

The overall story arc had an exciting and tightly written conclusion and I was so happy that the worst was over … until I read the sneak peek for the next book in the series. Oh my! That one should be very interesting indeed. Guess what I can’t wait for!!

Duke of Pleasure has a perfect happy ever after for two wonderful people and I’m a very satisfied reader. It’s no hardship to recommend this novel to any and all historical romance readers because it’s such an entertaining and engaging read. Once started, I couldn’t it put it down so please leave enough time to enjoy to get the full effect. It’s worth it.

Fans of the series finally get their long awaited HEA for Zeb, the double agent Lucipire vampire. For so long, his character has assisted the Vangels in their fight against evil but in the last novel readers found out that he got caught. Readers know that Jasper is a mean and twisted villainous character so I wasn’t sure what Ms. Hill was going to have him torture Zeb with in Good Vampires Go to Heaven. The answer and this book was worth waiting for.

In this novel, readers finally get to know how Zeb was recruited in the first place. They also get his backstory which was effective in gaining sympathy for his character. Plus Regina, the impatient heroine, finally gets her happy ever after by grabbing a chance to finally see some action. I got to see her backstory as well, and she’s definitely a result of the time period she lived in. By becoming a vangel, it gave her a second chance. I liked that she’s a bit unorthodox in her methods, and she fumbles here and there, but her goal, and ensuing relationship with Zeb because of it, provides lots of entertainment.

Of course there are battles and skirmishes to keep the drama heightened, but the author didn’t explore them with any great detail. Ms. Hill kept the tone light with the focus clearly on Zeb and Regina’s growing romance amidst all the chaos in preparation for the final battle. I think that’s what I appreciated about this last book in the series – the author kept the darkness out from the plot to insure that this last romance was a pleasure to read. No anxiety attacks, no bitten nails, nothing that made me squirm with discomfort, the author made sure the plot conflict did not overshadow the spice and attraction between Zeb and Regina. In doing so, the author made sure I enjoyed myself; it was an easy read.

It was sad to say goodbye to everyone so I appreciated the condensed wrap-up and the embracing of all the heroes and heroines who came before. And, Ms. Hill was consistent to the end with the “Michael dance”. Someday I will see that movie just to get a better understanding of the moves and imagine in my head seven Viking brothers doing it.

My favorite guest appearance was by Tante Lulu. I love that lady because she always makes me smile and I love how the author describes her close relationship with St. Jude. I think we’d all benefit if we acted like intercessory saints were our best buddies and friends and we had constant conversations with them. The love, optimism, enthusiasm and sense of fun and wonder that Tante Lulu embodies makes her stand out in every novel she’s appeared in. She’s a great secondary character.

Yes, Zeb and Regina get some loving action done between the pages. As always, Ms. Hill is able to imbue those scenes with passion, love and even some fun. The writing is well done so they’re quite entertaining and satisfying.

Good Vampires Go to Heaven is a wonderful ending to an exciting, well written and engaging series. Its unique premise, Ms. Hill’s trademark sense of humor and her wonderful way of writing a romance, have truly made this a remarkable series. I’m sad that it’s ended but what a way to go. Fans of the series simply can’t miss this. I wouldn’t recommend new readers start here – it won’t have the impact. This is the culmination of many books where Zeb’s actions earned him a chance at redemption. I’m glad to say it was worth it.

Mating rituals, prophecies and murder, oh, my…

I enjoyed Werewolves of London because there was quite a bit of plot development before the hero and heroine jumped between the sheets. I liked the murder mystery that Grace had to solve, and I like that Carter’s being her mate was not a given. He had to work at it a bit and that hint of uncertainty gave the story a bit of depth it otherwise would not have had.

The conflict is twofold – win the girl and make sure she stays alive. Sounds like a good plan except Grace and Carter have no idea who the killer is. Turns out it’s an age old motive but Ms. Jordan still put it to effective use.

The author put her characters through their sexual paces with effective writing that can cause hot flashes for some readers. Grace had a very fun time with the mating but I liked that when all is kissed and done, Carter remains a hero. I also appreciated the fact that although Carter was a playboy, Grace wasn’t all that experienced. The reason why was fascinating and also a little sad.

There is one niggle that bothered me and that was how the info about Grace got where it did. I have some guesses but I would have preferred it to be spelled out in a more dramatic fashion. In fact a couple of the possible drama points were conveniently explained away with just a few short sentences. I think they deserved a bit more attention, but the author concentrated solely on the romance. Overall, I guess that’s a good thing.

Werewolves of London is a cute sexy romp with just the right dusting of suspense and drama to keep the pages flipping. I liked the relationship between Grace and Carter. It wasn’t a courtship fraught with unnecessary resistance but Grace wasn’t a pushover either. I liked that about her – pragmatic, honest about her own feelings, and not afraid to go after a good thing. I had fun reading this book and recommend it for a quick, happy and sexy read.

26 Hours in Paris is the perfect mix of erotic romance with a traditional story of falling in love. My appreciation is deepened because Ms. Alex imbues her characters with a shared history, of love thwarted by assumptions and an opportunity for second chances. All three aspects combined to give readers a full-bodied, engaging yet stimulating read that singes the sheets while warming the heart.

Readers are left in no doubt early on that Kathryn absolutely loves Marko and later on will come to understand that Marko loves her as well. The crimp in the relationship comes from life – a tragedy. Their relationship had potential but took a direct hit when something happened to the heroine’s family and it fell apart. The good news is that Katheryn still considers the hero a friend. The bad news is, so much time and distance as come between them, she’s under the illusion that things could never be, that their love wasn’t still a living breathing thing, and a least three other reasons she’s come up with to convince herself that it simply is not meant to be. It’s a good thing for her and for readers that Marko not only isn’t on the same page, but as a Dom, won’t let her hide and run any longer. Marko has a plan.

I liked the dynamic of their relationship and the fact that all Kathryn’s friends, save Charlie, conspired against her. They knew something she didn’t, and because they know her so well, knew they had to come up with a story that made sense. She fell for it hook, line and sinker, which of course is a forgone conclusion. What I didn’t expect was the connection with the plane’s passenger, nor the chauffer, nor all that could happen in 26 hours.

The BDSM aspect was on the light side in that it was 95% percent focused on Marko and Kathryn. The author told the story from both their POV so I knew that the heroine was totally on board with Marko’s dominant ways, and I knew what motivated the hero and what his end game was so it was totally believable that it all factored in with their romance. Marko’s ‘lessons’ taught the heroine some important truths about herself and in doing so, made the hero’s wishes become a reality. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. The author threw in some significant conflicts to really show readers just how perfect the protagonists are together, and just how far Kathryn succeeded in achieving personal growth. The other 5% dabbled in a brief taste of exhibitionism and club life, with some telling to augment the showing. For readers who aren’t big on the BDSM scene, I think Ms. Alex’s handling of it was perfectly balanced and it did contribute to their learning about each other, learning to trust, and succeeded in propelling their romance forward. Still, the writing is still done well enough to make a person blush.

This is definitely a character driven romance supported by a varied cast of secondary characters that truly enhanced the story. I thought the heroine’s meeting with his relatives to be anti-climactic. I was waiting for some powerful dialogue or heightened drama to be revealed in detail but the author chose instead to focus on Marko and Kathryn and used his family as a delightful backdrop. Readers will have no reason to doubt Marko’s love for his family; it’s there for all to see, including Kathryn. I just expected more oomph or emotion or depth when they finally meet. As it was, it was … nice. Even under the circumstances, it was nice.

26 Hours in Paris is the perfect novel for readers who prefer an actual story to couch the erotic content. Ms. Alex has always had the ability to make the southern reaches steam while melting the northern and this book carries on that tradition. This is a delightful romance with two engaging characters. Kathryn might take a bit to get past her personal walls but when she does, the romance quickly comes to full blossom and the happy ever after satisfies. This story is really good for an afternoon escape. I recommend it.

Alex is the typical tormented hero who was cuckolded once and swore never to leave himself vulnerable again to a woman. Never say never. The poor guy had a serious chip on his shoulder, yet he’s a decent man with a marshmallow heart surrounded by briars and moats and brick. His desperation to protect that vulnerable part of him was almost his undoing. What he did to make up for it truly redeemed him in my eyes and I accepted him as a worthy hero for Lorna.

Redemption comes in many forms and what shocked me was the redemption of one of the secondary characters. I was ready to thoroughly write the person off, but Ms. Ranney had different plans. The end result was an ‘awww’ moment. After reading that, I agree with Lorna – everyone should get a second chance.

However, there are some instances where second chances should not be allowed, at all, ever. That became apparent too. It created a believable conflict, even if I figured out who did it, and why. I was annoyed actually as to how forgiving Alex was to this person for most of the book, yet he was so harsh to Lorna. That bothered me. This other person was so poisonous, annoying and irritating, I just wanted to shove them out a window to see if they could fly.

The best parts are when Lorna and Alex are on the same page. The least stressful moments were the happiest; when the hero and heroine explore and allow themselves to enjoy the passion that is like an inferno between them. When they smile at each other and are in perfect accord, it was sublime. I was thrilled when that occurred more and more towards the end of the novel. At that point, they were slowly coming to the realization that they were falling in love. It was so beautiful. And yet, that was when the author struck and shook it all up like earthquake. Talk about pages flipping in a fury!

Nan is my favorite secondary character but it’s a tough call because I really adored Alex’s mom, too. They both were assets to the story and made the book better. The love of friendship is strong and special between them and the Ms. Ranney caputured it beautifully.

All in all, The Scottish Duke is a delightful romance story. I liked Alex’s and Lorna’s personalities. Their dialogue, both spoken and internal, was well done and helped me understand their motivations and challenges. I liked the pace of the novel and I was intrigued with Alex’s passion with soot. It was a clever idea to use it to solve a mystery. I just had no idea that it would lead to more than one thread of conflict. That was very cool.

Even though I think readers will figure out the antagonists of the novel, I do believe they’ll be surprised as I was as to what eventually happens to them. I enjoyed reading this book and I think many other historical romance fans will too. It has a lot to recommend it.
