I like that there was already history between Bohannon and Luna. I liked that the heroine had a strong sense of family, duty, loyalty and love. Her loyalty and love initially got her in a lot of trouble, but in the end, also led her to a happy ever after. The road to that end was bumpy because of certain factors that had to do with what she was doing in the beginning of the story.

I almost gave this a 3.5 rating but then the final moment came at the end of the battle and I sat up in shock when I read that scene. Even more astounding was finding out who did it and why. I was so blown away, I had to bump it to a solid 4. I swear, I never saw that coming. Wow!

The sex scenes are well written and should please erotic romance readers, especially since Bohannon is an alpha all the way.

Bohannon was a breeze to read. I liked getting to know both main characters. Oh, I can’t forget to mention that I think Luna is going to fit right in with Bones. If I had any doubt, that bottle of whiskey did the trick. Epic.

If a reader is short on time but is in need of action, sex, love, two characters that are perfect for each other, and a plot that works, then Bohannon is perfect.

I like a hero that makes an effort to show himself in a good light without compromising who he is. The fact that he can be both sides of a coin is realistic to me. No one is all bad-boy or all snooty goody two shoes – the hero is sort of in the middle, tough but with manners and an aptitude to fit into any crowd on either end. Torpedo is much more interesting because he’s on that darker side. Sometimes, you need a hero with a few dents and rust on his armor and he fits Rose’s situation and needs perfectly.

The only thing about this story that I wasn’t keen on was some of the language. It’s not over the top by any means, but I would have been happier with more F words and less, or no, G words. But, it is an MC romance, so probably expected.

The author doesn’t spend much time on angst about the age difference for which I was grateful. Rose received the benefits of a man who knows how to appreciate a woman, realizes that communication defuses assumptions, fears and prevents misinterpretations, and has the patience and maturity to work through things without being selfish. I think that’s the part I liked about Torpedo; he wasn’t selfish. Well not totally. By that I mean, yes, he wanted Rose and he wanted sexual completion, but he made darned good and sure that the heroine was ready for him, in all ways. That’s where the eroticism plays out most effectively. Torpedo made sure that it was her choice and he wasn’t going to force the issue. Basically, he respected her, and gave her all the sensual tension she could handle plus more. That’s why this story worked for me.

A little bit of drama spiced up the plot and again, showed a reader just how ready, willing, and very able Torpedo and his MC family are to defend Rose. It was a tad brutal, but the author included just enough to get the point across. No one messes with Rose. Ever.

Even though this was a novella length, the author included every element I look for in order to make this a worthy read. I really enjoyed it and I have no doubts that Torpedo and Rose are perfect for each other.

This story ended way too fast, yet it was just right. It solved a problem that has been plaguing Ian for quite some time, and it showed me that Veritas is much, much more than the valiant Law Guardian from past books in the series. In fact, the secrets that Veritas holds are just as exciting and amazing as the plot itself.

I read this book via the audio version, so it took about 8 hours and 54 minutes, but for readers of paperback/print, this 384 page dynamo should take much less time than that. All I know is, I read/listened to it in one day. Yes, that is a long time to walk around with headphones, but just like the print books, I couldn’t stop. Every chapter left me with “More, more!” and “Now what?” or my favorite, “You’ve got to be kidding me!” – that said when a chapter ended with a shocking or surprising cliff hanger that totally caught me off guard. This book was AWESOME!!

Since I read this via audio, I’d like to take a moment to commend the publisher or author; I’m not sure who decides these things, but whoever it is, on their choice for narrator, Tavia Gilbert. The choice is genius. I’ve listened to a few other narrators now, enough to be able to say that Ms. Gilbert is a high classed narrator. She portrays each character with clear and distinct voices and personalities. Let me tell you, that cannot be not easy because there are so many characters in the world Ms. Frost has built, from Vlad, to Crispin, to Ian, and Mencheres as well as the hero and heroine of Wicked Bite, Ian and Veritas. Frankly, I’m stunned at the variety. The narrator’s vocal range is impressive and brings the audio version to life much better than anything I’ve read in my own head. I enjoyed the book but listening to it is like going to see a play blindfolded.

The only thing I’m not a fan of, in any fiction genre, is the playing fast and loose with the ideas of demons and souls. In this book, even though it’s totally fictionalized for the story, and I understand that, I have a different opinion that does not allow me to take the subjects lightly. With all that being said, I’m still giving this book a high rating because the writing, plot, flow and pace of the story, the dialogue, the relationship between the characters and the ability to keep surprising me, are all elements that earn those five stars. I laughed out loud, I gasped … basically this story made me care what happens to the characters. That’s the kind of writing that makes a book stand out – it affects my emotions as I read and I want to keep reading.

The love between Ian and Veritas is finally clarified and I am a happy reader. Theirs is an unconventional romance with the most unusual internal conflicts. Let me narrow that down a bit, Ian is so confident in himself, I don’t think he even experiences internal doubts at all. It’s Veritas that does and once the reason is disclosed, I believe the heroine has enough angst for the both of them.

I could go on and on because there are a lot of shenanigans going on in this novel as well as so many other reasons to encourage other readers to check this book out. Half the fun are the surprise elements woven throughout the story and I in no way want to dilute that for anyone. If you are a fan of this series and you haven’t read this yet, you’re in for a treat. If you are new, this possibly could be read as a standalone because it focuses only on Ian and Veritas’s fight to survive and how they solidify their love amidst the terrible challenges they face. Wicked Bite is well worth every minute reading. It’s an easy recommend.

What makes me like this book over the past couple is the balance of story over sex. When there are too many sex scenes, or pages upon pages dedicated to every conceivable step in the process, it bores me. It can drag down my enjoyment because there is no purpose. Dark Song gives me a story worth spending time with – the challenge to solve the mystery of a truly baffling illness that is creeping through the compound which is compromising everyone’s safety. An unseen, seemingly unstoppable evil that no one can figure out? That got my attention. The fact that it affects those that should remain unaffected? Fascinating.

Another reason I looked forward to reading Dark Song was the heroine, Elisabeta. She was rescued in one of the previous books and it’s taken a while to heal enough for her to even attempt to rejoin the living. Not that she knows what living really is because she’s been in a cage for centuries, tortured and deprived of all life experiences other than fear. What kind of life is that? How can a person even know where to begin to live again when every decision was made for her? All good questions and all are answered in good time. The catalyst is the hero, Ferro. He’s her life mate and he intends that the rest of her healing can only be done with him, out in the open so she can see him, smell him, hear him, taste him and know the man he is. The hero has a huge task in front of him – to get Elisabeta to trust him and in him.

One more element that made me like this book more than others is the fact that the author wasn’t as repetitive as she’s been in past stories – repeating a fact or excuse over and over so I end up yelling at the book “okay! I get it!” — I didn’t do that in this novel. Yes, readers are more than made aware that the heroine is fearful and ignorant of even the basic things, like walking. That the heroine can’t make decisions for herself because she’s been prevented doing so. The difference is – for every time this is stated, soon after the hero does something that helps her make a change, a choice, to encourage baby steps forward. It’s because of that continual forward momentum that I respected the characters, the plot, the writing and the overall relationship between Ferro and Elisabeta. He believed in the heroine, he respected her and never wanted to do or say anything that reminded her of the cruel vampire who kidnapped and kept her for so long. Ferro truly earned my respect. Ferro didn’t focus only on the lust aspect of his returned feelings and emotions. No, his goal was to earn what all solid, successful, good relationships should be based on – trust.

The discovery of what is attacking the people on the compound had a couple of levels that truly intrigued me. One was a modern issue and the other was ancient. It was a mesmerizing combination that I could never have guessed at or anticipated. I like being impressed.

The physical aspect of their romance, when it finally happens, stems from a slow, steady, sensual buildup of gentle touches, teasing kisses and languid gentle strokes. That build up is why I enjoyed the scenes so much. The sex scenes were powerful because they were a sign of healing, joy and a hint at a promising future. What’s not to like about that?

There were a lot of secondary characters, the two most prominent were Gary and Tariq. Both men present a new fact of Carpathian society I hadn’t known about. They know what they’re talking about but a reader isn’t quite sure of all the subtext and inferences of just how important this revelation really is. Ferro gets it, and Elisabeta is on the cusp. Even though I didn’t quite understand the whole of it, I think it’s a hook for a new plot twist. If so, it’s effective and it makes me want to know more and more and more. Call me impatient but I think Ms. Feehan needs to write faster.

Taking out all the glossary, chants and stuff, this story was about 386 pages and it took me 2 days to read. It would have taken me one day but I started too late the first day for me to finish in one go-round. I sure gave it a good try though. Staying up until 1 AM isn’t the best idea on a work night. The only author I seem to do that for on a regular basis is Ms. Feehan. There’s just something about those Carpathian men I can’t resist. I hope when you pick up your own copy of Dark Song, you’ll like it as much as I did.

There is no doubt that Absinthe, the hero, needed his own HEA. Readers and fans of the Torpedo Ink series are sure to agree. He is a broken man, a damaged, hard man with mad skills in so many areas, yet he, like his brethren, yearn for something more, something that can balance the darkness trapped inside. Ms. Feehan gave him Scarlet, the librarian. What a bright light she turned out to be. And, a very big surprise.

First, I’ll touch on the writing. It’s solid. The action scenes were hard hitting, effective and powerful. The bad guys were so deviant, cruel and abhorrent, that when they received their justified comeuppance, it was boomerang brutal. That which they did to kids, and other innocents, was visited back upon them. The victim with the most loss was the heroine herself, Scarlet. It’s tragic and yet all too believable. Criminals with money seem to think that they can get away with anything. I wish there were heroes like Torpedo Ink out there – making the difference for those without voices. True, their methods are outside of accepted practices, and that’s an understatement. Then there is the paranormal element regarding the brothers and sisters of Torpedo Ink’s skills or ‘powers’. Sometimes I wish things like that were real. As uncomfortable as I might be with the descriptions, the end result delivers closure, permanent closure. For criminals like the ones in this book, that’s a good thing. Ms. Feehan has a way of writing that grabs my attention and keeps it even while she’s describing some heinous activity or scene. There is no way a reader can be unmoved by her characters’ pain and demands for justice.

Absinthe was shaped by the criminals he was forced to be tutored under from a young child to a young adult. That kind of stuff is hard to read. At times, extremely hard to read. It is in every book of the series. More details get dropped in each installment and it always amazes me that they are as sane as they are. Yet, all those hardships they survived keeps feeding the yearning in me for all of them to find their happy ever afters. It’s said that there is someone out there for everyone – and Scarlet has to be one in a million. I say that, not just because she’s a strong, and surprisingly skilled heroine, but because she is perfect for the hero. She has some unusual needs also and although not initially at the level as the hero’s needs, she is more than game enough to not only try, but to be the absolute best.

Here is where I have a hard time writing what I want to say. I heard that Ms. Feehan knows perfectly well that the kind of things that Absinthe needs Scarlet to do, might be a tad controversial, even hard to read for some. It plunks the story smack dab in the middle of erotica fetishes. It’s a hard-to-read fetish that drives the hero, and again, knowing what he was exposed to for all of his formative years, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. There is not one member of Torpedo Ink that hasn’t been damaged in that way. The need however, is different for each one. I’m assuming that the author had to do some serious research to get the details as vivid as she did in the story. It’s consensual, no two ways about it. It’s also not something that I even knew existed! So, on one hand, I saw the beauty in the jeweled gifts that Absinthe gave to Scarlet. Their meaning, and the amazing talents of the craftsman who made them, meant that they were all the more precious. On the other hand, it’s a very demanding fetish for the partner, on a level I just didn’t understand. Nor do I wish to. It’s enough for me to know that Scarlet has within her personality the needs that exactly match the needs of the hero. It’s their HEA and it works.

I know that there are many, many fans that are going to write reviews more glowing than mine. I did enjoy the story. I’m so happy Absinthe has found love. I think Scarlett is wonderful for him. Ms. Feehan’s skills as a storyteller are honed to a fine point and her exploration into the various fetishes that exist in the world must sometimes be eye-raising and perhaps quite stimulating. She knows how to match them to her heroes quite well. I’ll read the next book in the series because I’m hoping it’s going to be Savage’s turn. That man’s story is sure to be a challenge for me to read as well, but I’m up for it. I may not feel 100% comfortable with portions of Desolation Road, but that doesn’t mean I won’t recommend it to someone. I most certainly will. Everyone in Torpedo Ink has earned their right to an HEA and Ms. Feehan always delivers.

This novel may feel comforting for fans of the author, because if a reader is looking forward to the elements that make reading an Amanda Quick suspense mystery fun and entertaining, they’re all there to enjoy.

This is the first historical novel I’ve read by the author that takes place in a time period other than Regency. It’s more like the early thirties because the Crash is mentioned; I guess that qualifies as early 20th Century. The Jones family is going strong and getting into just as much trouble as their ancestors used to. Again, the novel has that feeling of continuity because the Jones’s family talents still make it hard to find that perfect woman who can complete them, who won’t run away screaming or having a hissy fit because they don’t fit into a clear societal mold. The heroine, Amalie, is wonderfully perfect for the hero, Matthias, because she’s a bit different too. Not so much in the ‘other’ factor, but because of her career. I don’t believe I have ever read a story where the love interest is a trapeze artist. I was fascinated.

I was delightfully puzzled as to who the bad guy could be. There were layers of motive and possibilities to choose from and it’s safe to share that all my guesses were wrong. How fun!

I would have rated my review higher if there were any surprising, jaw-dropping, Oh-my-gosh Wow moments, but alas, I didn’t find any stunners. I’m still a happy reader because the book provided just what I needed; what I was looking forward to and hoped the author delivered. She did. I needed pure escapism and Ms. Quick took me on a grand adventure.

This novel is enjoyable, entertaining, and has the requisite happy ending with a delightful mystery solved in efficient fashion. I enjoyed the romance between Amalie and Matthias and its culmination. Tightrope is well worth reading.

This is a really nice romance. I’ve come to enjoy the writing style of Ms. Wolf. I like how she created the heroine, Anne, and the hero, Daniel, and how they fell in love.

I was fascinated at how the author handled the ‘son-born-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-blanket’ trope and Daniel’s determination to be better and more successful than his father. He does succeed, brilliantly. Instead of impressing the man who sired him, a whole other visceral reaction ensued. It’s the perfect vehicle for conflict and Ms. Wolf worked it brilliantly.

I rated the heat level as spicy but it’s more like sensual with spicy sprinkles. There are a few descriptive words that pushed it to the next level but then a reader is popped into the next scene when all is said and done. I was unsure quite how to rate it so I though I’d explain it instead.

I liked Ms. Bonteen and her relationship with Anne, and I was so happy that Daniel got to meet some of his family by blood. I didn’t expect it and I am grateful the author added them because it just made the happy, happier.

The story also had a nice touch of drama and conflict that made things interesting and kept me flipping the pages. I enjoyed the intelligent and clever resolution.

The Master of Grex is a fine read – fun, fascinating and well written. I adored the final chapter because it wrapped everything up with a big, happy, wonderful bow. If readers are looking for a romance story that has great appeal, then I recommend this one.

The start of the story introduced me to the heroine, her dilemma, the ultimatum and the reason she chose the course she did. At first, I thought I knew who the hero was going to be, but I was quickly corrected.

I’m glad because I much prefer who it turned out to be, Philip, Lord Linton. He’s not quite what I expected though and I’m happy about that too. He started out expecting a mistress and he discovered something much more amazing, but it unnerved him. He was feeling so good he went with it, didn’t question much and he was an ideal hero in how he treated Jessica. Be warned, the hero may not say much but he is listening to Jessica, watching and gathering clues. His attention to detail is what makes a difference in the end.

There are some wonderful moments of kissing, longing looks and tender moments but as soon as the tension heats to the point of culmination, the door abruptly closes and I was left with the impression of a done deal without the show. It was quite refreshing. I was left dealing with their emotions and impressions, feelings and internal dialogue. I enjoyed every moment.

Philip’s family and friends were doing all the worrying for him. They gossiped, plotted and planned, all in the name of familial love and devotion. They all meant well but the results were, as anticipated, disastrous. How the author described both characters in the aftermath of their separation broke my heart.

The final clue was innocently dropped into place and Philip wasted no time in taking up the challenge. I absolutely adored how the hero was dedicated to finding her and was willing to do whatever he could to woo and win Jessica. This was when his family had a chance to right the wrong visited upon their relationship and I was cheering for their success. Philip’s sister was like a one-woman calvary.

There are more intriguing plot points that rounded out this story nicely but I’m not gong to say anymore. There is some emotional drama, an attempted kidnapping and some wonderful Shakespearian moments that enhanced my reading enjoyment. All in all, His Lordship’s Mistress is a wonderful romance story that is pleasing, entertaining and made me feel happy at the end. All good points to recommend this story to other romance fans.

In a way, it makes sense that James could do all he did. He is older, established and of an age where he knows exactly what he wants when he sees it, and is able to do something about it. Namely, protect her, watch over her and love Emily from afar. I credit the character for waiting while she got over the grief of losing her parents. Making sure she knew her own mind and had healed emotionally allowed me to respect the hero’s restraint.

The well-written eroticism covers James finally making a move on Emily. He introduces her to many firsts and the heroine is more than ready to participate because feelings for James had been growing for quite some time. His being her teacher was sexy. James was commanding and sure and his focus is on making sure Emily knows what he feels for her though his touch and actions and some spicy dialogue.

Naturally, the fly in the ointment was finding out just how far reaching James’ reach is. Emily’s reaction was, as expected, anger. However, it’s not the over-the-top screech-fest I expected. Then again, her outbursts weren’t very impressive as they were short lived. I thought she forgave him too easily. Perhaps that’s due to pacing required of a short story. At least where they stood in their relationship is made clear.

Stalked has a really nice happy ever after ending that culminated in the epilogue. It proved what I thought, James is a very virile man, and Emily might be all his, but he is absolutely all hers.

This little romance is well-balanced between being erotically sexy and roughly romantic. It’s amazing what lengths a man will go to when he’s in love. Read Stalked and find out.

I adore the Wildes of Lindow Castle. They are a wonderful family, very supportive, unconventional and always loving. The heroine of Say Yes to the Duke certainly needed every ounce of care, patience and support in the early parts of the novel. She had good reasons for her fear and the resultant tumultuous tummy, but at the same time the occurrence of the reason made me grin. It certainly was memorable for me too.

Viola was a delightful heroine. I enjoyed her penchant for befriending a crow, defending cows, and her other general personality traits. She has a self-esteem issue initially and her sister, Joan, was a huge help, but it’s the man she encounters that starts her on the path of getting over her fears.

Devin, the hero, is the character that does the most growing, changing and discovering. He discovers that he can actually smile, he discovers *gasp* feelings! Devin also has had a horrid childhood that shaped how he deals with anger, relationships and responsibilities but it’s his interactions with Viola and the rest of the Wilde clan that make him realize that love, banter and ‘tender feelings’ do not make him weak. That whole journey was a joy to watch because during it all he’s falling in love with the heroine. It was majorly entertaining and I relished every moment.

I really enjoyed the play. I felt it was the turning point and the culmination for so many plot threads. It was a delight to read. Like Devin said, it was the ‘fifth act’ and it was great because it included quite a few giggles. Of course, those earlier counted ‘acts’ (1-4) were fun, saucy and quite entertaining between Devin and Viola.

The novel ends with a most adorable and sweet epilogue that is like icing on a cake. I have a happy book buzz after reading it and a smile on my face. To confirm that this novel made me feel that happy, I read it again before writing this review. Truly, Say Yes to the Duke is a charming and delightful read and one I encourage romance readers not to miss.
