Four sisters have become queens, rulers of all that Aerthlan’s two moons embrace. The last sister will forge her own path . . .

Signs and Seals

Raised on the magic-seeped Isle of Moon, Maeve is used to unusual powers—and the way they fuel the politics of her world. But when she discovers an ability to shape-shift at will, she knows who she wants to share it with first. Brody, the enigmatic, infuriating shifter-spy has always made time for Maeve. But it’s been almost two months since she’s seen him. And though no one else believes Brody is in danger, Maeve is more than ready to rescue him herself.

The rumors Brody’s investigating are terrifying: a secret army of magic-users, in the service of the cruel Circle of Five. But when he uncovers the identity of one of the Five, the mission becomes personal. Cursed as a boy by the Sea Witch, Brody can spend only two hours a day in his human form, a restriction that limits his future and muzzles his heart. Plus Maeve teases him for being such a pretty doggy instead of appreciating his manly charms. To win his freedom, he must take on a terrible disguise. And when Maeve finds out, she’ll unleash a tempest like no other . . .

The novel I’ve been waiting for – Maeve’s story! So many questions are finally answered. Will Brody ever stop being a dog? Will Maeve find her one true love? And, who IS the Chameleon?

Step by step, sister by sister, the kingdoms of Aerthlan have been rescued from bad royal mismanagement and are now led by noble, strong, kind-hearted and loving kings and queens, and all their peoples benefit. Thing is, there are no more kingdoms to rule so what does that leave the final sister, Maeve, with? Surprises, surprises are in store.

Throughout the series, readers have watched Maeve grow up. She was a young child when the series opened and she’s seen a lot of changes, most of which her sisters have had a hand in bringing about. The only magical thing the heroine seems to be able to do is turn into a seal. That’s not much but it’s all she has for abilities. One other thing she has is Brody’s friendship. It’s the one thing that keeps her upbeat and hopeful. She has a friend with whom she could share her seal-time with. But, now he’s gone too. Maeve is at a crossroads in her life and only she can make the choice that is best for her. Although her sisters love her very much, which is clear throughout the series, the heroine is feeling stifled under their tender overwhelming attention and ploys to marry her off to a nice young nobleman. It’s a bit much, even a reader can agree. So, with Brody missing, what can a young woman do without prospects? Seek her own. What she finds is extraordinary.

There are a couple of new secondary characters that play vital roles in the novel. Elinor is important in a couple of ways, but my favorite is her connection to Nevis. Okay, what she can do with printed drawings is pretty spectacular and provides moments of comedy – one at Nevis’s expense. I thought it hilarious.

Lobby and Tommy, though minor characters, contributed mightily and I liked meeting Lobby. He wasn’t quite like Popeye, but he reminded me of the character; gruff, salty and kind with a touch of heroism when it counted, although no spinach. I liked meeting the kids too.

I was sad at one of the fatalities in the story. Like most, I thought he could be redeemed, until he made that one final jump of logic. I accepted the author’s choice at that moment.

There is a lot of adventure, daring-do and close-calls sprinkled throughout the story. There are rescue plans that go awry, revelations that astound and realizations that love has been blooming all along and they only need to grab it. A few things need to happen first, like getting rid of the Sea Witch. She turns out to be real and surprisingly powerful. She also is a planner, a schemer and a bit off her rocker. Like all good villains, she gets her comeuppance but how it happened and by whom is a huge surprise. I think so at any rate.

I also enjoyed the funny moments when Brody dons his other human persona and he meets other people for the first time. Some were suspenseful but there were quite a few that garnered grins.

The romance and happy ever after were all wrapped up in a bow for fans. I’m very satisfied with how Ms. Sparks tied all the series’ threads of the many lives affected during The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea. From adults to children, human to animal and friends to lovers, all romantic elements came to fruition to deliver a happy ever after ending worthy of the story arc stemming from the mystery of the Circle of Five. Aerthlan is in good hands.

I would recommend readers not read The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea as a standalone since it’s a novel that completes a story arc and solves all the riddles and clues that have plagued Maeve and her sisters since the beginning. A new reader just wouldn’t understand why Maeve’s gift to Leofric of Eberon was so special, satisfying and full of emotional import. Why it would bring a watery sniffle to a reader’s sappily smiling face. Okay, my sappily smiling face. I was so happy for him! Seriously, I recommend reading them in any order if a reader wishes, but save The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea by Kerrelyn Sparks for last. It’s the perfect icing on top of this multi-tiered cake called the Embraced series.

A brutal murder, a suspect in jail, and an execution planned—but what if the wrong person is about to be killed?

When a fellow U.S. Marshal asks Anita Blake to fly to a tiny community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on an emergency consult, she knows time is running short. When she arrives, there is plenty of proof that a young wereleopard killed his uncle in the most gruesome and bloody way possible. As the mounting evidence points to him, a warrant of execution is already under way.

But something seems off about the murder, and Anita has been asked for her expert opinion on the crime scene. Despite escalating pressure from local cops and the family’s cries for justice for their dead patriarch, Anita quickly realizes that the evidence doesn’t quite add up.

Time is against Anita, as the tight-knit community is up in arms and its fear of supernaturals is growing. She races to uncover the truth and determine whether the Marshals have caught the killer or are about to execute an innocent man—all in the name of justice.

This book might be as big a size as novel plus but it still wasn’t long enough for me. I was held in complete fascination to the point that I didn’t realize how much time had passed while reading. Time flew because the story, plot and mystery sucked me right in and held all my attention.

I missed a couple of Ms. Hamilton’s previous books prior to Sucker Punch because I felt tired of whole scenes being dedicated to sex. I’m thrilled that this novel has a PLOT and the author stayed focused on solving the mystery with only a few episodes to remind me how convoluted and important her relationships are within her polycule. It wasn’t heavy-handed at all and I really appreciated that.

The whole premise was to save a young man who both Anita and Marshal Newman believed to be innocent. Unfortunately, a warrant of execution was issued and time is not on their side. The legalities they were trying to work through and with was fascinating. It presented a clear case of our justice system in reality. A law is passed that everyone felt was needed but in practice falls short of actual life situations. The result is someone could die that really shouldn’t but the law is so narrow, there’s no wiggle room. Talk about frustrating and stressful! The suspense comes from wondering if they will make it in time and what will they have to do to make it so.

Of course, everyone is sure Bobby is the murderer. The secondary characters exhibit prejudices and lack of tolerance and the willingness to ignore the 10 years Bobby was a model citizen. How easy it is to accept the simple way out just because the topic makes a person uncomfortable. It seemed like most of the townsfolk just want to sweep Bobby under the rug and forget anything ever happened. But, in true Anita Blake form, she won’t give up, she keeps fighting no matter how angry she gets the local PD. I am always impressed with Anita’s character. She’s a strong woman who isn’t afraid to fight and face the monsters head on, even when monsters turn out to be evil humans. I wasn’t sure if that was the case because guess who’s back in town? Olaf a/k/a Otto. He had a case in the vicinity and I kept wondering if there was a connection.

One connection that makes for good reading is the dynamic between Otto and Anita. Fans of the series understand why that is disturbing on so many levels. In Sucker Punch, I was treated to a serious pondering of, what If Olaf actually gets his way? If you’d have asked me before reading this novel, I would have said no way in heck – that is never going to happen. Ms. Hamilton spent some time with Olaf’s character and now I have to say, I’m not too sure. And after what Edward said? Color me shocked! Another stunner is that Anita’s lion isn’t that averse to the possibility. I wonder if other readers are of similar mind about Olaf after reading this story. It sure makes for some interesting contemplation.

The ending is exciting, shocking, stunning, and quite possibly contains the most important cliffhanger question any book has ever ended with. I am not going to say who it involves because I want a reader to be just as flabbergasted as I was. I never saw that coming in a million years. One thing is for sure – I am NOT going to miss the next book when it comes out. The answer to that question is way too important to ignore.

Ms. Hamilton wraps up the case in spectacular style. It’s not what I expected but it makes a ton of sense and provides complete closure. Sucker Punch is a powerful book with a hefty story worth taking the time to read. This is the most satisfying Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novel I’ve read in quite some time and is an easy recommend.

Though Kayla bravely rises to the occasion and is determined to do whatever it takes to help Nick defeat his enemy, Nick is terrified of losing her. Can he identify and eliminate his new nemesis before the man takes everything from him?

I am so happy to be back in the world of Immortal Guardians. I was ecstatic with Seth’s story but it seemed like it might be a while before I’d get to enjoy more in the series. Color me tickled pink to find Broken Dawn not only introduced me to Nick and Kayla, but my favorite Immortal Guardians popped in to help out. Once again, I feel like I’m figuratively embraced by a large, loving family whose lives I care about. How many book series make a reader feel like that? I know they are out there, but I’m adding Ms. Duvall’s Immortal Guardian series to that honorary list.

One intriguing aspect was the exploration of the question – what would happen if one of the long-lived Immortal Guardians met someone from their quasi-recent past? And what would that person’s reaction be? The author answered that question with one possible outcome in Broken Dawn. It provided a great plot to carry the romance of Nick and Kayla. Their relationship was already there as they were neighbors but crises can act as catalysts for change and that certainly was the case in this book.

This was a smooth romance, and by that I mean that I didn’t have to deal with any heavy-handed internal conflicts. That it was a pleasure to read because I felt the tone was positive, upbeat and the focus was on the growing romance between Kayla and Nick. It was at times sweet, humorous, intriguing, surprising and even suspenseful. It was all around wonderful.

The reason that I didn’t give this book the full 5 stars is because of the actions surrounding the villain. Yes, there was a villain who effectively contributed to the suspense and action that did occur. I am referring to the guys that were employed to get answers and to secure the captives. I understood in the previous showdowns with evil-minded mercenaries with government-like ties, that it was necessary to eliminate the enemy because they were violent bad guys definitely guilty of crimes of moral turpitude. They had no mercy, and had no compunctions about killing. In Broken Dawn, I didn’t get that crucial feeling of the end justifying the means – that getting rid of them was removing depraved, violent people who killed innocents without qualm. I didn’t get that feeling because of the nature and circumstances surrounding the villain. I don’t believe the author convinced me that every hostile in green and gray warranted that level of removal. Perhaps because of past events in previous books that not doing so later bit them in their butts? I suppose that’s possible. I guess it’s up to readers to decide for themselves if they were convinced. I wasn’t.

That was a big paragraph explaining why I didn’t go that extra half of a star, true, but in actual time spent involved with that dramatic plot twist, it’s actually a blip in the over all scheme of things. I stand by my earlier statement that this is truly an upbeat romance. That watching Kayla and Nick discover that their feelings for each other weren’t as one sided as they each thought was a joy and made for great entertainment. If I remember correctly, many gifted ones who are love interests of Immortal Guardians don’t always have a choice about when they’ll make the transition. Nothing is ever easy and Kayla carries on that tradition. Speaking of the afterwards, there is this one sentence that created a sound track in my head for Nick and Kayla’s HEA. Their “I don’t think forever will be long enough” triggered the end song of the second Mummy movie, “Forever May Not Be Long Enough”. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an earworm while reading before. It was perfect. So, while I’m writing this review, guess what song I’m listening to …? *GRIN*

I am a very happy and satisfied reader. Broken Dawn is the 10th installment in the series and is just as fine a read as all the previous. It’s a keeper and a wonderful addition to the Immortal Guardian family. Fans of the series surely must be as happy as me.

Just because they’ve run away…
Ines Neves and Emmeline Wellesley have both run away. Ines hid in a carriage from a tedious suitor, only to find, too late, the carriage had traveled out of London, not just around the block. To make matters worse, the carriage is that of a stranger: a handsome Highlander. Or perhaps a big, strapping Highlander makes matters better? Emmeline Wellesley has had four Seasons and cannot tolerate another. To force her mother to listen to her, she’s run away. But things haven’t gone well. She’s been locked in a closet, had all her money stolen, and somehow adopted a dog. When an old family friend shows up to save her, she doesn’t exactly welcome his help.

Doesn’t mean they don’t want to be found.
Duncan Murray doesn’t know what to make of the Portuguese-speaking woman in his carriage. She refuses to return to London, so he takes her to meet Nash Pope, a so-called friend who speaks Portuguese. On the way, he meets up with former soldier Stratford Fortescue, and Stratford’s opinionated distant cousin, Miss Wellesley. The four travel together to Nash’s estate, and that’s when everything goes really wrong. On the run to Scotland, Duncan finds himself increasingly attracted to Ines, even though he knows he can never marry her. Stratford has always wanted Emmeline, but his family secret means he doesn’t deserve her. This excellent adventure might bring the couples together, but only if they manage to elude gun shots, a murderous brother-in-law, a vicious dog, and outlaws.

For readers looking for a fun romance filled with delightful characters, hilarious escapades and adventures with a wonderful HEA, I heartily recommend reading The Highlander’s Excellent Adventure.

I think the title is so appropriate considering that Hollywood recently launched Bill & Ted Face the Music. This tongue in cheek nod to comic genius is no accident. Ms. Galen had me in stitches and highly entertained throughout the whole novel.

For Innes, a desperate dash to buy herself some time from a suitor she did not want ended up taking her far out of her comfort zone, and her country. Imagine the shock! And for readers, the fun comes from her decision to act like she ‘didn’t speak English”. The poor hero, Duncan, was beside himself. What is he going to do with a lass he can’t communicate with?

Then there is Stratford, one of the other heroes in the story. He’s had his eye on someone for quite some time but she never gave him serious thought as a suitor. I think this romance plot falls into the category of friends to lovers. I enjoyed watching the transition between him and Emmeline. Her determination to strike out on her own brings unintended consequences and a renewed friendship from her past. I hope readers smile and laugh as much as I did while watching Emmeline navigate her inadvertent adventure.

That’s why I enjoyed this novel so much. There was double the fun because there were two couples whose paths cross in unexpected ways. The complications that ensued kept me flipping the pages at a furious pace. This story is incredibly rich in details, dialogue, descriptions not to mention the intricate way the author wove their budding relationships throughout the book. The writing was flawless and well done. Then again, every romance story I’ve ever read by Ms. Galen has that same high quality.

The addition of the dog was super sweet. I mean, how the Spaniel came on stage was surprising to say the least. It was a brief snapshot, but like they say, you can tell a lot about people by how they treat their furry companions, and both Emmeline and Stratford get an A+ from me.

One of the strong elements in this novel is the sense of family, with all its wonders and warts. No family is perfect but for all four protagonists, it’s a driving force behind many of their decisions, and contributes to the ultimate happy ever after for both couples.

There are actually a ton of snippets and scenes I could share because the author wrote her characters with such depth and substance, there’s an overabundance to choose from. I could mention the effective internal conflicts; one of them being the touching way a child’s old hurt inside the man is finally soothed. That’s another mark of an awesome book, the ease and enthusiasm to share what I liked is easy. It’s stopping myself from sneaking in spoilers that is the problem. So much awesomeness!!!

I’ll stop here. If you are in need of a happy and fun escape that can make you forget life’s stresses, then please read The Highlander’s Excellent Adventure. The story’s HEAs are an upbeat cure for the blues and blahs of your day. This book is a winner.

As Julia and Marco race to stop the Wolf Hunter’s men, Julia will have to do more than just tame her wild wolf… she’ll have to decide whether giving up everything she wants will bring her the one thing she really needs.

This was an intense read that had me wide-eyed so many times, I forgot to blink. The action, the race against time, the heroics, the near misses, and a wonderful romance woven in altogether made Wild One an awesome read.

This story is about Julia and Marco. Marco is a character that I was briefly introduced to in Wild Heat. Like the other two books I read and reviewed, this book can also be read as a standalone. This is the kind of series that I like – I can pick up any book and feel like I’m getting the complete picture, with so many intriguing teases from previous stories, I actually want to read them, even if they’re out of order. It all works.

Another thing that works is the pairing of Julia and Marco. She’s running, unsure of where her life is leading, and Marco is fighting to create a place where shifters can have lives worth living. He’s a hero because he truly cares and wants to help every wolf shifter – from little kids to the elderly, that society has ignored and shoved to the outskirts, just because they are who they are. Marco is perfect hero material. Julia is in her own way, too. She is selfless and she throws herself into any situation she believes in 100% even when she’s outnumbered and outclassed. She’s feisty and ferocious. In short, she’s a perfect heroine to match the hero. I enjoyed getting to know them.

That dastardly villain, The Wolf Hunter, has ramped up his villainy. This time, he’s crossed the line by targeting kids. The really whacked thing is that he hates shifters in an obsessive kind of way and if a reader has read Wild Heat, they’d know why it’s so twisted. The Wolf Hunter has issues – Marcos made me laugh when he referred to those ‘issues’, even while he was being brutally tortured. That might be a bit much for some readers because his torture was being witnessed by some kids that were going to be the killer’s next victims. Readers can be assured that the author took care of the kids when the time came. I think that drama is what made this book so powerful and compelling. This is the type of wickedness that needs to be defeated, and heroes come to the fore from unexpected places. Ms. Woods surprised me with who ended up helping in the big battle scene towards the end. I was most impressed.

The romance between Marco and Julia was great. It wasn’t fast; there were some mix-ups and some personal trials and challenges they both had to overcome while trying to keep everyone safe. Their budding love grew over the course of the book and when they finally came together in passion, it was hot, hot, hot. One thing I didn’t share in past reviews of the other two books was how the author has the hero and heroine mate. I’ve never read anything like it and it’s clever, unique and quite awesome. And, I can’t forget to mention sexy, it’s very sexy.

The happy ever after wrap up was just as impressive, positive and happy as I could wish. There are challenges yet to face for the Wilding pack and all their allies. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and finding out who gets their HEA next. If paranormal romance readers haven’t discovered this series yet, they are missing out. I’m so happy to have a new favorite author to binge read!

Troy’s all-in with Daniel Wilding for the hunt, but the closer Troy gets to Zoe, the more his wolf wants her… only she’s hell-bent on destroying the magic inside her. Can he win over this gorgeous girl and get her to accept the beauty of her inner wolf… or will finding the Wolf Hunter destroy the wild fire inside the woman he’s starting to love?

This is the one I’ve been waiting for! The bad guy is finally revealed and dealt with – but wow, are there revelations and shocks in store for fans of the series.

The title is very apropos but I’m not going to share why. That’d be telling. Zoe and Troy are the couple in Wild Fire and once again, Ms. Woods’ storytelling finesse is in full force.

Believe it or not, Zoe’s conflict is parallel to the villain’s, except she was following a more helpful and healthy path, sort of, but the bad guy’s path was darkness personified – or he was just plain crazy. Readers can decide for themselves but I guarantee they’ll all agree that he was written as a perfect picture of evil.

My first impression of Troy, the hero, is that he is …. cute. Like, earnest, happy puppy cute. But there is nothing truly puppyish about Troy. He’s a firefighter – valiant, brave and sincere in his quest to join in and offer anything he could to help catch the bad guy. The interesting difference between the hero of Wild Fire versus the heroes in the previous books is that even though he is his own man and alpha, I got the impression that his character is off to the side to let Zoe take most of center stage. It’s not a bad thing because from my perspective, Zoe has a ton of personal life-changing decisions to make that directly affect the outcome of the plot. Her character is strong, but then she does come from the Wilding family so it makes total sense.

The one big shock is epic in its effect. Again, I’m not going to go any farther because there is no way I want to spoil the fun. Yes, the revelation pours jet fuel onto the plot’s momentum, and the storytelling provides chills and thrills, excitement and reasons to cheer for not only Zoe and Troy, but all of the wolf packs I’ve come to know and adore.

Through it all, Zoe finds herself unable to resist the passion she finds with Troy. She tries, oh boy does she try, but Troy is patient, determined and in love. An alpha in love is not a force to be thwarted so the HEA is inevitable. It’s the getting there that’s half the fun. I’d say the lovemaking scenes were pretty darned hot because the bedroom door is wide open. They were well placed and well written so they enhanced the story and the romance.

There is a sub-romance going on in the background and I was surprised that the author didn’t save that story for another book because the undertones were strong. When I finally reached the end of Wild Fire, I saw that there IS another story, a novella for Daniel’s romance. I’m thrilled because what I saw in this novel was compelling and looked positively fun. Guess what I’m going to read next?

Wild Fire wrapped up with another satisfying happy ever after with all the threads coming together. The bad guy was finally whipped, the shifter world is safe, and love is in the air. Excuse the pun, but this was a WILD RIDE! I’m extremely happy that I discovered this series. It was time well spent and I enjoyed every moment. I don’t just recommend this book, I recommend the whole series!

I read this novel in a matter of two short hours because the suspense and plot gave me a wild ride and did a bang-up job of entertaining me.

This story is about Noah’s cousin, Terra. Noah is from Wild Love, the book that got me hooked on the series. This is 100% a standalone read. Noah shows up to help out Kaden, the hero, when help was needed the most. The assistance wasn’t your typical wolf-shifter style. It’s much more exciting than that.

Now, I know in reality, there are major regulations for what is and is not acceptable behavior for cops protecting witnesses in their care. But the fantasy of the bodyguard falling in love with the woman he protects and she him, is alluring to say the least. I mean, he has to be strong, an alpha, commanding and protective, right? Well, Kaden is all that and more. It’s the ‘more’ that makes this trope work for me. The author kept dropping hints through the hero’s self-reflection but the reality caught me by surprise. I enjoyed that.

I’m not a fan of some of the language. That’s my personal beef but it didn’t detract from the story, or my overall enjoyment. It did make me cringe here and there and I thought that the story/dialogue could have survived just fine without it. All the rest of the elements of the book were strong and very well written.

The suspense and thriller part comes from the evil villain, the Wolf Hunter. I was introduced to his sick ways in the previous book but in Wild Heat, I learned a lot more through Terra. I was just as shocked at the revelation as the character. The thing is … just when everyone thought they had a handle on the situation, nothing is as they believed. That translates into another book where the next couple in the Wilding Pack Wolves series is going to have to deal with the fallout. After reading Kaden and Terra’s story, I can only guess at the pressure the whole family and pack are under. This makes for excellent reading.

The chemistry between Terra and Kaden worked for me. They certainly burned up the sheets. There’s a lot more energetic passion that exploded between the two than the previous book, so the heat level is more on the hot side in Wild Heat. Definitely ice cube worthy.

Once again, I find myself enjoying Ms. Woods’ writing style. I heartily recommend reading this novel to paranormal romance fans. It has action, suspense, a solid plot, love, excitement, family and a fun romance with an HEA. I’m glad I read it.

They have to hunt down a killer before he strikes again… and before they do more than heat up the sheets. Because humans and shifters might get “Wild for a Night”… but they’re not supposed to fall in love.

A great plot, interesting characters and a suspenseful mystery with danger dogging the heels of the heroine and hero is what is in store for readers of Wild Love.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by this author and it won’t be the last. I definitely am looking forward to reading the first book based on how much I enjoyed this one. This is easily a standalone because I didn’t feel lost at all by not reading Wild Love first. What it did do was whet my appetite to read Owen’s story, and the next one, Wild Heat. Inspiring future purchases is a mark of a good first impression.

I enjoy shifter romances and I’m always on the lookout for another one to grab my attention and interest. Yes, the plot of a hate group targeting the paranormal group du jour has been done before and it’s an effective conflict. I like what Ms. Woods did with it and how the hero and heroine try to work together to find out who the mastermind is, who the next target would likely be and how the information is being leaked. All great mysteries that need to be solved before the next shifter is targeted.

The chemistry between Noah and Emily flares to life at their first meeting but is allowed to turn into a slow burn for a good chunk of the story before passion exploded between them. I liked the intense yet low key, descriptive wise, of their love scenes. Their relationship moved forward from there and I liked the momentum.

Noah’s internal plot conflict stemming from the color of his wolf and what it means, works for the most part. I can’t put my finger on what it is that made me feel less than satisfied on how he dealt with it, emotionally or otherwise, but it wasn’t enough to dim my enjoyment of the book overall. The writing was really good and the exciting parts truly gripped me and kept me on the edge of my seat. So many close calls!!

Wild Love has a wonderful happy ever after ending. I was so very pleased for Emily, you have no idea. Until you read the book yourself, of course. You can’t imagine how trilled I was for both of them. It’s how it ended that had me buying the first book in the series before I even sat down to write this review. If the HEA is as complete like it is in this story, and it turns out that is the way Ms. Woods writes, then I expect to have another great read coming up.

She fell for a dragon half turned to stone.
Now the mating fever will turn them to ash – or let them fly.

As lord of the Nox Incendi dragons, Bale Dorado is supposed to protect his people within the exclusive Keep casino in Sin City, but the curse that plagues the clan has all but turned him to cold stone. Only by finding the powerful, burning heart of his treasure will he survive to lead them against a deadly magical threat to dragonkin. Instead, he finds himself falling for a wounded, delicate…virgin?

Esme Montenegro fears everything about the broken, disfigured dragon lord—including her wild, feverish attraction to him. She too is falling…and if she can’t find her wings, they and all the Nox Incendi are doomed.

Ah, this is Esme’s story. Obviously she’s going to be the one who will save Bale from turning into a giant piece of stone but the question is, how? In books 1 & 2, she was the ultimate victim – helpless, a pawn and seemingly weak. Dragon Fall has a huge challenge to overcome and I’m happy to say I liked how the whole story arc got wrapped up. It was quite the journey getting there.

The author really focused on the plot in Dragon Fall. Every thread, plot twist and emotional conflict fed the suspense, drama and action as Esme came into her own – as a woman and as a worthy mate for a dragon. It was Bale in the previous story that figured out her engagement ring was bogus. What it did to her was pretty nefarious.

Bale used to be a true alpha dragon, but the sickness he has is killing him and it’s only a matter of time. His character is the perfect example of a tortured hero. In the previous books it sounded like he was giving up. I’m so glad his tune changed in this story. Of course romance readers are going to credit Esme, her being the heroine and all, but it’s true. She inspired him to fight, to reach out for what he wanted which was her. Staying in a dark cave on the top of a casino can’t earn him any more brownie points. Now, Bale has to come out into the light. I got a kick out of Ms. Jade’s description of the hero’s clothes and Esme’s initial reaction when he interrupted her playing the slots. Very sexy and quite fun.

There are sexy shenanigans once Esme’s effect on Bale takes hold. I was so happy to read them. Yes, they were well written but they were something I craved to read because Bale and Esme deserved every delightful groan, sigh and big O experienced between both of them. Their chemistry was irresistible and it made me happy that they were happy – eventually. They had to suffer through a lot of challenges to get to that point.

The suspense and action comes from the villainous (as Esme, Piper and Anjali liked to call Lars Ashcraft), and I quote, “ash-hole”, finally getting what he deserves in a most ironic twist. I smirked every time I read that nick-name. It’s so appropriate and I think other readers would agree once they get to ‘know’ him.

First it was Rave, then Torch, now Bale has his happy ever after. There’s nothing like happy alpha dragons loving their mates. The ending was dramatic, heroic and fitting. Dragon Fall was the perfect wrap up for a wonderful paranormal romance trilogy. I’m so happy skippy I got to finish the series. And now that I have, I can tell everyone what a fun trio of stories they are and perfect for fans of sexy dragons in love.

But who’s gonna protect her from me?

For a short story, Ms. Karland packed in a novel’s worth of romance into a tiny package. There’s an unconventional heroine, a hero who’s seen too much of the dark side of life and a little boy needing to be saved. There’s trust to earn, love to grow and lessons to learn about the difference between sex and making love with a person you want forever. Arkham the story has it all. Arkham the hero can’t believe he’s found the one for him.

The story actually opens with suspense and a bit of action. What I appreciated was that even though the action in the story could have easily dipped into more violence, the author reined it in so the focus remained on Arkham meeting the heroine, Rain. And to give Rain her due, she sure knows how to kick for maximum impact. She’s feisty and I really liked that.

I appreciated Arkham’s reaction when he sees evidence of Rain’s past. For me, that was a powerful moment. Another part I enjoyed reading was the scene where the hero helps her through a flashback. Another powerful moment in the story. Like I said, the author packed in some read-worthy moments which made this short story stand out.

Of course, when it comes to Rain learning the difference between sex and the expression of love with someone you trust, the eroticism was well placed, paced and written. For readers who find those scenes the highlight of an erotic romance, they should be well pleased.

Even though this story is part of a series, it’s fully a standalone read with a happy ever after between two characters that deserved to be happy. Arkham is a wonderful romance nugget that shouldn’t be missed.
