Revenge or love…either choice will sacrifice her freedom.

Dance teacher Jeanette MacArthur has one thing on her mind when she auditions for a job at La Masquerade—revenge. She couldn’t protect her sister from the criminals she now seeks employment with, but she can ensure that justice prevails.

If only her body wouldn’t melt at the touch of one of them. Ty Mason, second-hand man of the Cleaners, oozes dominance, aggression, and danger. He stands for everything she ought to despise, yet this unwanted attraction threatens to ruin her.

Her unwilling submission, however, means he discovers more than her secrets. His heart and their future are on the line.

Love, Hate and Revenge.

When Jeanette, a former dance teacher, steps into La Masquerade as a dancer, she thought she knew all she needed to know. She had a plan. No matter what else happens, she would get revenge for the death of her sister.

What happens after she auditions was not what she ever expected and it tested her at every step. It even made her question the relationship she thought she had with her sister.

Upfront disclosure, I haven’t read the first book in this series. I love a series where each book can be read as a standalone while a common thread or reoccurring characters tie the series together. His To Punish has all the right elements to make it as a standalone. Readers new to the BDSM genre should be aware that it also has a variety of things that may not be what a first time reader of erotic romance is expecting. That being said this book and the plot showed the characters every facet, good, bad, everything.

The chemistry between Jeanette and Ty was hot and sizzling and the passion was brought out more with every chapter I read.

As second in command of the Cleaners, Ty is full on Dominant with a capital D. I love everything about the story but was a little surprised at how quickly Jeanette embraces becoming a submissive. The author may have felt rushed to get beyond that aspect of the relationship, the push/pull of a new submissive, to develop the rest of the plot and build on Ty and Jeanette’s HEA. The story doesn’t lag but moves quickly and kept my attention.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. It has love, family, and just the right amount of sizzling chemistry.

Meet Grace Cho, snow leopard — In London on a mission for the coveted Thoth Agency. Born and raised in the Agency, Grace discreetly observes the happenings of the paranormal world and there’s one recent happening that brings her face to face with Carter Annis — A potential murderer.

A hunk of a potential murderer indeed, but still, a prime suspect in the killing of an old and respected Agency member. One of three werewolves vying for the Alpha role in a pack of notorious werewolves in London, Carter meets Grace via a prophecy his pack elders have spoken of since he was a child and with the help of ParanormalMatesSociety.com. Carter’s burning desire to find “a woman from the East” and perform the traditional mating ritual motivates him to pursue Grace with a vengeance. Carter wants the beautiful Grace for his very own and he’ll do almost anything to achieve that goal.

One way or another, Grace is going to take Carter down.

Mating rituals, prophecies and murder, oh, my…

I enjoyed Werewolves of London because there was quite a bit of plot development before the hero and heroine jumped between the sheets. I liked the murder mystery that Grace had to solve, and I like that Carter’s being her mate was not a given. He had to work at it a bit and that hint of uncertainty gave the story a bit of depth it otherwise would not have had.

The conflict is twofold – win the girl and make sure she stays alive. Sounds like a good plan except Grace and Carter have no idea who the killer is. Turns out it’s an age old motive but Ms. Jordan still put it to effective use.

The author put her characters through their sexual paces with effective writing that can cause hot flashes for some readers. Grace had a very fun time with the mating but I liked that when all is kissed and done, Carter remains a hero. I also appreciated the fact that although Carter was a playboy, Grace wasn’t all that experienced. The reason why was fascinating and also a little sad.

There is one niggle that bothered me and that was how the info about Grace got where it did. I have some guesses but I would have preferred it to be spelled out in a more dramatic fashion. In fact a couple of the possible drama points were conveniently explained away with just a few short sentences. I think they deserved a bit more attention, but the author concentrated solely on the romance. Overall, I guess that’s a good thing.

Werewolves of London is a cute sexy romp with just the right dusting of suspense and drama to keep the pages flipping. I liked the relationship between Grace and Carter. It wasn’t a courtship fraught with unnecessary resistance but Grace wasn’t a pushover either. I liked that about her – pragmatic, honest about her own feelings, and not afraid to go after a good thing. I had fun reading this book and recommend it for a quick, happy and sexy read.

No one can guide Kat through the sensual city’s delights like Marko Renard. He let her get away once, and now he’s determined to make her stay–even if he has to tie her down. He will wrap her in cashmere, tease her tongue with chocolate, and take her to the peak of the Eiffel Tower…But can he convince the bohemian beauty she belongs with him, in his luxuriously decadent world? In business, he’s the master–but it’s Kat’s body and soul he truly longs to rule. He has just enough time to show her the pleasures of the boulevards, the boulangeries–and the bedroom. To finally get her to just say oui, he’ll have to seize the day–and the night…

26 Hours in Paris is the perfect mix of erotic romance with a traditional story of falling in love. My appreciation is deepened because Ms. Alex imbues her characters with a shared history, of love thwarted by assumptions and an opportunity for second chances. All three aspects combined to give readers a full-bodied, engaging yet stimulating read that singes the sheets while warming the heart.

Readers are left in no doubt early on that Kathryn absolutely loves Marko and later on will come to understand that Marko loves her as well. The crimp in the relationship comes from life – a tragedy. Their relationship had potential but took a direct hit when something happened to the heroine’s family and it fell apart. The good news is that Katheryn still considers the hero a friend. The bad news is, so much time and distance as come between them, she’s under the illusion that things could never be, that their love wasn’t still a living breathing thing, and a least three other reasons she’s come up with to convince herself that it simply is not meant to be. It’s a good thing for her and for readers that Marko not only isn’t on the same page, but as a Dom, won’t let her hide and run any longer. Marko has a plan.

I liked the dynamic of their relationship and the fact that all Kathryn’s friends, save Charlie, conspired against her. They knew something she didn’t, and because they know her so well, knew they had to come up with a story that made sense. She fell for it hook, line and sinker, which of course is a forgone conclusion. What I didn’t expect was the connection with the plane’s passenger, nor the chauffer, nor all that could happen in 26 hours.

The BDSM aspect was on the light side in that it was 95% percent focused on Marko and Kathryn. The author told the story from both their POV so I knew that the heroine was totally on board with Marko’s dominant ways, and I knew what motivated the hero and what his end game was so it was totally believable that it all factored in with their romance. Marko’s ‘lessons’ taught the heroine some important truths about herself and in doing so, made the hero’s wishes become a reality. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. The author threw in some significant conflicts to really show readers just how perfect the protagonists are together, and just how far Kathryn succeeded in achieving personal growth. The other 5% dabbled in a brief taste of exhibitionism and club life, with some telling to augment the showing. For readers who aren’t big on the BDSM scene, I think Ms. Alex’s handling of it was perfectly balanced and it did contribute to their learning about each other, learning to trust, and succeeded in propelling their romance forward. Still, the writing is still done well enough to make a person blush.

This is definitely a character driven romance supported by a varied cast of secondary characters that truly enhanced the story. I thought the heroine’s meeting with his relatives to be anti-climactic. I was waiting for some powerful dialogue or heightened drama to be revealed in detail but the author chose instead to focus on Marko and Kathryn and used his family as a delightful backdrop. Readers will have no reason to doubt Marko’s love for his family; it’s there for all to see, including Kathryn. I just expected more oomph or emotion or depth when they finally meet. As it was, it was … nice. Even under the circumstances, it was nice.

26 Hours in Paris is the perfect novel for readers who prefer an actual story to couch the erotic content. Ms. Alex has always had the ability to make the southern reaches steam while melting the northern and this book carries on that tradition. This is a delightful romance with two engaging characters. Kathryn might take a bit to get past her personal walls but when she does, the romance quickly comes to full blossom and the happy ever after satisfies. This story is really good for an afternoon escape. I recommend it.

When his good friend Julius dies unexpectedly, Marcus finds himself saddled with a new submissive–Charlie. But Charlie comes with a history, and a whole host of issues and problems that Marcus has never really dealt with. Marcus knows he loves Charlie, and Charlie loves him, but he’ll have to set aside his old theories about BDSM and relearn the ropes, so to speak, if he wants to be the Dom Charlie needs him to be.

It’s been a month since Marcus’ good friend Julius has died. While Marcus still grieves for the loss of his friend, his life has become incredibly complicated. Julius left the care of his submissive, Charlie, to Marcus. Marcus loves Charlie, but his life is busy and complicated and he never wanted a live-in sub, particular as Marcus is quite set in his own ways and Charlie is delicate. Charlie had come a long way forward from where Julius had found him and Marcus didn’t want to mess any of that up. Can Marcus and Charlie make this work?

I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed this story. In my opinion, the author did an amazing job with it. Charlie had been rescued by Julius from slavery and so Charlie’s past was incredibly checkered and I found Charlie to be a deeply interesting and complex character. I really liked how Marcus knew and understood so much about Charlie’s past – so the pace of the story could be kept at a good clip, without massive amounts of info-dumpling to explain everything to the reader. This history, however, understandably made Marcus reluctant, not certain of how to handle Charlie best while still loving him and wanting do to what was right. I found this gave the whole story a bit of a darker tone than I had originally expected. Charlie craves the pain, needs his limits seriously pushed and this is a very fine line to walk, between what is too much and how much Charlie needs in his submission.

While I personally really really enjoyed this story, there’s quite a few hot buttons that might not appeal to other readers. Charlie’s sex slave history – though it’s not gone into in detail and as much as possible is laid out in a positive manner, it’s present and very integral to Charlie and his needs. Also the level of pain and submission Charlie needs probably won’t appeal to lighter readers, or those new/unknowing to M/M BDSM style stories. All that said, I thought it was tastefully written and strongly emotional. I enjoyed how the author progressed Charlie and Marcus’ relationship without glorying anything from the negative past but also showing me as the reader why Marcus pushed Charlie. I felt the love and need from both characters and this helped me enjoy the slightly harder, darker sex the two men enjoyed together.

Not a short story that will appeal to everyone’s tastes, I however loved this and would strongly recommend it to those who like the envelope pushed just a little. While I didn’t think there was anything outrageous in the storyline, this isn’t a light, fluffy tale and I think sometimes that’s exactly what I want to read. A brilliant short story and an author I will certainly be checking out again.

This book begins an incredibly dark, sexy and actually interesting series from Kim Jones. Clubwhore is an unapologetic and smutty read that happens to be different from anything I’ve ever read. I’m a big Kim Jones fan, which is what made me open this one, but I soon realized what a true gem that I had just stumbled across. Who else has the audacity to dedicate their book to the whores of this world.

“Whores.”

“Truth is, you’re smarter than most women. You get paid for sex, while the rest of us have been giving it away for years. So hats off to you, promiscuous women – you’ve figured it out.”

Delilah loved her life as a club whore for the Devil’s Renegades MC. So she told herself and anyone else who would listen. Yet knowing this author’s propensity for creating flawed and deeply troubled characters, I figured there was much more to Delilah. Don’t get me wrong now, she enjoyed what she did, but the whoring was simply another form of the punishment she craved.

Delilah was all kinds of messed up but she endeared herself to me. She was hardened by the life she led and the unique “therapy” that she needed to survive, but she was genuine, with a charming sense of humor. Bryce was a wonderful hero that I liked immediately. He was so good to Delilah and accepted all of her faults. They both had some troubling baggage that added to the storyline and made me want to delve into their dark secrets. It was so easy to get drawn into this story.

Delilah and Bryce were both such fascinating characters and the writing and depth of the story were absolutely amazing. The story was unique with loads of drama, sex and humor. It’s a dark romance with a lot of spanking and BDSM tones. It was intensely emotional at times. I’ve come to expect most of those aspects, along with a good cry or few, from a Kim Jones book. I would recommend this book for the readers who are into the dark romances and MC romance books.

One evening, Logan and Jennifer are set up by well-meaning friends. This time, Logan is determined not to let her go. Jennifer will submit to him, no matter the cost to either of them.

Sierra Cartwright is one of my favorite authors. Sadly, Initiation is not one of my favorite books by her, though I’m not sorry I read it. Let me explain:

In the beginning, I was drawn into the story by two intriguing characters. Logan was a Dom with a mysterious scar on his face and piercing green eyes. Jennifer was a novice who had seen BDSM in a movie and wanted to try. While Logan felt a bit distant to me, Jennifer loved her coffee with lots of sugar and cream and enjoyed eating pastries, which made her realistic. I was eager to read and discover how he would earn her trust. The story didn’t quite meet my expectations. It was good but, having read many books by this author, I was expecting more.

I found the emotional connection between the characters, disappointing. For me, their love story felt like a negotiation. He’d Dom her and she’d do her own thing and sex would occur in the middle because they had the hots for each other. I missed depth in these two characters. I missed cheering for their love. I missed feeling more. This is a short story and maybe the author felt rushed to get “the good stuff” in but as a reader, I needed to see the buildup as much as the result.

Notwithstanding the shortfall in the emotional department, it didn’t do the same in the bedroom. Ms. Cartwright is in my opinion one of the best BDSM authors published. Her sex scenes are detailed and exquisitely written, this is BDSM that feels real and transported me to that moment with the characters. Readers who simply want a taste of her writing to test the heat, this will be a good one to recommend.

In conclusion, Initiation was a scorching read.

But when he over hears Lizzie talking about signing up for a 1Night Stand, he decides if he doesn’t make his move, he might miss out on his chance at love.

I enjoyed this second short story in Melissa Kendall’s Castle Wolves series. It was a steamy fun paranormal romp that had plenty of feeling to go along with the sexy times.

The first book of this shifter series featured Garth the Alpha of the Castle Wolves pack, and we were also introduced to his best friend and right hand man, Brute. This is Brute’s story where he finally reveals his feelings for Garth’s little sister, Elizabeth. We find out why he waited so long to make his move on Lizzie and how hard it was to be the kind of mate she needed. There were a few climactic scenes where the conflict exploded but for the most part this story was dominated by some incredibly hot sex scenes.

I liked Brute and Elizabeth. They had great chemistry together and their sex scenes were incendiary. This story was also something different for me as the reader. I haven’t read many stories where the heroine is a Domme but I have to say that I found myself enjoying this one. I liked the BDSM aspect, especially. I liked how the author showed their vulnerable sides as well.

All in all, this short story was well written and I read it at a super fast pace. As with the first book, the author ended it a bit abruptly, so there was a spot of disappointment with that. I would have liked more resolution between Brute and Garth but that won’t keep me from reading the next book. I assume it will be Mason and look forward to his story.

When his criminal activities catch up with him, loyalties are tested to the max, and Susie has another choice to make—walk away, or stay and accept the darkness within.

The first two things that caught my eye about Doris O’Connor’s latest release, His Prize, was the blurb and the super sexy cover. I knew from the start that this was a dark romance, so I was expecting a hero that wasn’t too nice and some possible scenes where I’d cringe.

O’Connor didn’t disappointment. His Prize is dark, but not to the point of unpleasant.

The hero, Ren, was even in his role as a killer, appealing. He was rough, mean, and yet, strangely sexy.

Susie was twenty years younger than Ren and though she was not a bad heroine, she could have been better. Her naivety tended toward nerve grating at times. Also, the fact that she fell in love with the hero so fast (mere hours after meeting him) because she submitted to him so easily made her attempts at having a backbone a bit pointless. I did like the fact that she was a voluptuous young woman.

There is no doubt that Doris O’Connor knows how to write sex. The relationship between the characters was sexually scorching. Their chemistry is off the charts. However, just as this was great, I did miss a stronger emotional connection between Ren and Susie. O’Connor tells us that the characters are in love, (Susie even mentions that Ren is tender with her and we glimpse some of that in the story), but it would have been nicer to read how the relationship developed. In the end, I felt that they were united by sexual drive and not so much by emotions.

Finally, I particularly enjoyed the nail biting twist near the end. It came unexpectedly, and for a moment, I doubted about how it would play out.

His Prize, was a short, enjoyable, extremely hot, dark romance read. I’ll definitely be looking forward to some more books in the series.

For his part, the Dispatcher had never forgotten the love of his life. When he is sent to bring her in for being a traitor, he does what he does best…dispatching her to safety, to enable him to find the real culprit.

As the threat thickens, so does the sexual tension between them. But can there be a happily ever after in their future?

Darke is The Dispatcher, a cold blooded killer who works secretively for his country. Only when Astrid’s photo is handed to him things stop making sense. Darke’s handler is cagey at best, what little information Darke is supplied doesn’t add up, and Darke has serious problems accepting that the Astrid he knew in the past could be any kind of traitor. So Darke sets out to try and uncover what’s really going on.

I’m always a sucker for an assassin-style of story, and this one was no exception. Darke is a mysterious character, one who does the dirty, thankless but necessary task of taking out the bad guys by becoming one himself. Astrid is a lot more complicated than I originally thought and this really pleased me. Her history with Darke is well explained over the course of the book and I was really excited to see them not only reunited, but also watch them discover each other almost like it was brand new again.

I was a little disappointed with what I felt was an over-indulgence with the dirty talk. I like a bit of smut and harder language when the situation or characters call for it, but in much of this short story I really felt like it was added either for shock value, or just to make the sex appear “edgier”. It fell a little flat for me, personally, and I found myself cringing at the harder language because I hadn’t been convinced by either the story-line nor the characters that it was needed. Unnecessary swearing (like multiple words in consecutive sentences) just made the writing seem less realistic to me and felt rather like overkill.

Right near the end of the book there are some very faint overtures of BDSM. A part of me really wished that this had been more fully explored throughout the book. Darke simply calling himself a Dom and Astrid his sub – and having a very brief spanking scene – didn’t really leave me feeling like they were involved in a fully fledged BDSM relationship, nor that Darke was a hard-core Dominant. While the story is definitely short, I really feel that (as an erotic romance story) since the BDSM element was introduced it would have made far more sense for it to be explored in more depth. This would have made it feel far more realistic to me – rather than just be a few words and spanks and calling a very small bit of kink a full-on BDSM relationship.

With plenty of twists and turns in the plot I think this should keep most readers guessing right to the end. The characters of Darke and Astrid in particular were quite different – refreshingly so – and I found there was more than enough excitement to keep me turning the pages. An interesting and different style of story with a great relationship and some interesting sex scenes.

Sadie and her three best friends have made a pact – to fulfill their hottest fantasy and push the envelope. Daxton is a Dom at sex club Castle Dolce Vita and a firefighter to boot. Sadie asked Dax to fulfill that fantasy and he did – deliciously well. But they’d only agreed upon the one time, and so when Dax left Sadie is determined to move on, even if she does burn for him. When fate brings them back together, can she hold onto him for longer than one more time?

This is a lovely, hot and sweet short story. There was a plot hole that I felt wasn’t explained as fully as I would have liked – how did Dax’s arm get burned through his fire-fighting jacket/uniform? Those coats are specially designed to protect from intense heat. Considering that burn is why Sadie–a nurse–was sent to be his follow-up care giver, the point felt critical to the plot for me and it niggled that it felt too much like a setup. Had the circumstances of Dax getting the burn been just a little more detailed (was his jacket faulty? Did he need to hold the beam for a long period of time to protect the girl he saved?) I could have happily moved on and not felt like the burn was simply a convenience to throw Dax and Sadie together again.

While the spanking scenes are hot, I found it refreshing that the BDSM in this story was more about the mindset of a Dom/sub type of relationship. Spanking and some deliciously naughty sex outside in semi-public areas were the only kinks sexually speaking, but I enjoyed looking a little deeper into Dax’s mindset as a Dominant and what he felt a submissive mindset could entail. Readers unsure about BDSM or who usually don’t like much of it in their erotic romance might find this story still very interesting as it’s more mind-based not whips-and-chains-sex based.

I also really enjoyed the characters. I loved Sadie and was deeply curious about Dax and the secrets he hid. There’s a fair bit of Sadie’s fellow dare best friends (all happily settled from previous stories) and found despite picking this book up cold – without the previous installments – I followed along quite easily. Apart from getting some of the boyfriends/friends mixed up I had no trouble enjoying Sadie and Dax’s story for being just theirs and not necessarily a part of a larger whole.

I found this to be a lovely short story, hot and well written with just enough kink and plot to keep me happily turning the pages and very satisfied with a happy ending.
