We initially met Dante in author Sophie Oak’s first foray into the paranormal genre with Bound. Dante was essential in the rescue of his cousin’s, the Seelie King’s, bond mate, Meg. He impressed me then with his strength of loyalty and character. It’s that character that is a central theme in Beast.

Dante has always been the underestimated playboy. So much so, he too believes his “job” in the family empire is to party and look pretty…until he met Kaja. A werewolf cast out from her home, Kaja was merely trying to survive when she was captured and sold to the gnomes for their tournament auction. Kaja has been more animal (beast if you will) than human for so long she has trouble acclimating into a world where she’s expected to wear clothes and bathe regularly.

Dante is in the position of needing a consort, also known as a wife or bond mate. Kaja glows as no other consort Dante has ever met, even Meg. These two mismatched and misunderstood souls will fight each other and anyone who threatens their mate for the chance to be together.

I became so immersed in Ms. Oak’s world building with Bound I didn’t see how she could top herself. Honestly, I was willing to settle for simply enjoying Beast as a follow-up to Meg, Cian and Beck’s story. It was that and so much more.

Dante has perfected the cocky, self-assured, bad-boy fun persona. It’s who he is but at the same time it isn’t. It takes provoking his inner beast to prove dominance over his mate and protect the woman he grows to love and admire. Do you see the significance of the title? Brilliant!

I had doubts about Kaja as Dante’s leading lady. Ms. Oak paints her as an abused wild animal to Dante’s refined royal status. Kaja had a lot to learn to survive in Dante’s world. Like any true Alpha female, Kaja doesn’t simply meet the challenge, she runs to face it. I fell in love with her honor and courage right along with Dante.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that fans of Sophie Oaks other series will be thrilled to see some familiar faces…sorta. I won’t give away that particular treat you’ll have to read the book to see how she performs her magic. Beast is an excellent story that picks up where Bound left off. You’ll receive a richer enjoyment Dante and Kaja’s story if you read Bound first.

Ms. Oak’s characters rarely, if ever, fall in love at first sight. Lust at first sight is a different matter. While they almost always feel chemistry and/or sexual attraction, she allows the true passion and love to build slowly throughout the story. Beast is bathed in tension and sizzling descriptive sex. If you don’t want to be in the room with these people, don’t read this book. However, if you crave vivid writing, carefully crafted dialogue, and plots so thick you’ll need a knife; Sophie Oak is the story teller for you. I enjoyed this story and became invested in the lives of the characters. I love ménage stories and Ms. Young wrote clever tale. The BDSM element is at times shocking, but not too shocking. A bonus for me, I discovered some creative and interesting toys.

Away is very sexually charged and not for the shy or sexually timid. If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll want to read this book. It was definitely a learning experience for this reviewer, one I won’t soon forget!

Author Gale Stanley has created a fantastic tale that spans sixteen years and a cross country trek.

Betrayal led to the massacre of their families and a fear of humans. Like many of the remaining men of their pack, Gage and Tanner turned to one another out of necessity, comfort and a scarcity of female Lycans. When a chance meeting with a lost female member of their pack, Kate, brings out their mating instincts they’ll have to decide if she’s worth the risk. Kate no longer travels alone. Gage and Tanner not only have to woo the wary female, they’ll have to decide if they can trust and love her very hot human cowboy protector.

This is a short story so the reader isn’t required to relive the entire history of the characters but it is nicely sprinkled throughout the novella. Rather than overwhelming the story or holding back what is happening in the present, bits of the past and memories from Gage, Tanner and especially Kate add to the overall believability of the tale. Kate’s memories are especially compelling and paint her a sympathetic character. The only non-Lycan member of the cast of main characters is rodeo star Shiloh Ford. In a manner similar to Gage and Tanner, Kate and Shiloh hooked up based on necessity and comfort. Shiloh is a likable character who has immediate chemistry with both Gage and Tanner despite their secretiveness.

There are several other character pairings mentioned throughout the story but mostly in passing conversation. We never really get to meet the other human/Lycan mates but their stories sound like they would be interesting. Ms. Stanley has already written and published the two follow-up books in the Southwestern Shifter series but they appear to be centered on other wolves in the pack.

Readers may notice the scenes sometimes jump rather quickly between chapters without a truly smooth transition. I had to flip back and re-read the previous paragraph a couple of times to be sure I understood the transition. Don’t get me wrong, though, this was really only a minor disruption and didn’t kill the overall enjoyment of the book.

If you’re looking for a short story series with lots of heart and heat, check out the first book in the Southwestern Shifter series, Hellfire. This novella is great for a quick read and the follow-up stories are conveniently already published. Ms. Stanley is a clever writer and worth checking out.

The story kicks into high gear when Whitley is abducted. Jude has to decide is what he fought so hard to save worth giving up to get his mate back. It was fast paced do or die time for the characters and this author was able to get across what was at stake. Emotions ran high and I started reading faster so see what would happen next.

The Midnight Matings Series is just fantastic and Ms. Evans brings her own spin to these forced matings. Pairing a swan with an orca whale is comical but that’s just a small piece of the story. This tale dives deeper into the characters’ human emotions and what they would risk for those they love.

Splash and Elegance was pure entertainment from beginning to end. Those who follow the Midnight Matings series would definitely take a liking to this addition. As the others, Splash and Elegance can be read as a standalone, but the whole series it worth a read. I highly recommend!

As I mentioned, Ace and Kemp are more than co-workers, they have a history that forged a tight bond of brotherhood. In a word, they complement one another: Where Ace is a quiet and intense, Kemp is more open and expressive. Each time they sweetly addressed Summer as “Kitten” or “Darlin’” my heart couldn’t help but give a silent sigh as it melted.

Ms. Rainier doesn’t leave her readers in the dark about what makes her heroes tick. One of the elements of her writing that I really appreciate is how she sprinkles in the past all throughout the story rather than sending the reader on a dizzying time warp. Her characters are carefully plotted out and readers are treated to advance teasers of upcoming stories by including simple but non-distracting asides. In Summer’s Indiscretion we are gifted with some insight into Lydia, Chase and Clayton’s story as well as the fun holiday romp recently released for Duke, Gage and Dr. Emma Guthrie.

As always, Ms. Rainier accentuates her stories with a fun and cheeky soundtrack. I wasn’t much of a country music fan until I started visiting Divine, TX on a regular basis. Now, I actually find myself checking Youtube for the latest videos by Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean and Big & Rich. Don’t be surprised to find yourself humming the seductive words to “Steal You Away” as you read Ace, Kemp and Summer’s story. Each new story that comes out of Divine is sweet and sexy and sure to fuel some fantastic dreams. Spend some time getting know Ms. Rainiers unique town. The men are sensual, strong and protective and the women are…Divine.

I think I’ve said this about every Texas Siren book but this truly may be my favorite…so far! Bethany “Mouse” Hobbes is such a loveable and honest character she won me over immediately. She has always been the soft spoken, often overlooked, comfortable fixture in the town of Deer Run and rightfully earned the nickname “Mouse”. Having said that, when Ms. Oak first introduces us to Mouse she had just taken the first steps, on her own I might add, in securing a future for herself. In my mind, after reading the book, this was a very important piece of the story because it meant that she was ready for change when it presented itself. She simply needed the guiding and strong hand of a Dom to give her the confidence to pursue her dream.

Speaking of the Dom, Trev McNamara, broken ex-football star and recovering drug and alcohol addict, couldn’t have been more perfect for both Beth and Bo. In true Sophie Oak fashion, Trev’s story begins with a tie-in from one of Ms. Oak’s first books. Anyone who has read either the Texas Siren or Bliss stories is used to crossovers between these two fantastic series. Without giving too much away, I have to say I did not expect to see the familiar face that sets Trev on his path to true love and one incredible HEA. Each character has emotional challenges and/or personal demons to fight. At the same time what they individually bring to the D/s relationship is vital and necessary for the success of all involved. One example of the well developed and gradual change is how Beth begins the story as Mouse but is anything but a mouse by the conclusion. And it only required the “threat” of a good figging, LOL.

One of the stories I’ve been anticipating, very impatiently I might add, is Leo Meyer’s tale. Ms. Oak knows how to keep her fangirls happy by nicely setting the stage for Leo, Shelley and Wolf to fight for their HEA somewhere in the near future. I CAN’T WAIT!!!

Even if you are new to the Texas Siren’s books you can enjoy Trev, Beth and Bo’s story. There are quite a few names and faces that pop into the story and it certainly makes more sense if you’ve read the other books but it isn’t at all necessary for enjoying Siren in Waiting. Ms Oak is an amazing story teller and will have you coming back again and again.

I absolutely enjoyed this installment of the Gridiron Gods. Evan is blind but it doesn’t keep him down. He’s smart and funny and goes after what he wants. I loved when Tyler and Evan first met. It’s both funny and sweetly sensual.

Tyler has a bit of that bad boy male slut persona going on. He relies a lot on his good looks and his ability to get any man he wants. When he meets Evan his world comes to a screeching halt. It was entertaining reading how this sexually confidant man gets be humbled by a younger Evan.

The conflict added some suspense to this tale. I learned more of the Gridiron Gods’ past and an evil villain is exposed. Definitely a page turner.

As the book drew to a close I had a smile on my face. Defensive Guard is a love story where the characters have obstacles to overcome but in the end discover what is truly important.

Defensive Guard is an excellent addition to the series. With every new book the Gridiron Gods gets better and better. The stories get more in-depth and grip you to the very end. I would recommend reading the entire series in order so as to not be confused but it is a series that you will love being sucked into.

Tight End is the third addition to the Gridiron Gods series and it picks up where the last book left off. This was a fast paced read that had me captivated until the very end. The whole concept of a shifter who can only shift with their mate to make one animal is interesting to me. The shifter aspect and the tender love story between the main characters had me under the Gridiron Gods magical spell.

Ryan is the tight end for the Grizzlies and we soon learn that he likes sex and a healthy dose of dirty talk while engaging in it. Ryan is a narratophiliac – he loves dirty talk and it turns him on. This is a new word to my vocabulary but the definition became quite obvious in the first few pages. Ryan is coming to terms with the need to find that one special person. He feels the pull of something bigger than himself but has no clue as to the why of it. When he gets a call from a mysterious man named Phillip he starts to think maybe he’s found the one man that will dominate him perfectly in the bedroom.

Phillip is an older man who is smitten with the Grizzly’s tight end. Phillip knows about the Gridiron Gods and longs to have that connection with his sloth and his mate. I really enjoyed the interaction between Ryan and Phillip. Where Phillip is prim and proper, Ryan is a headstrong says-what-he-thinks kind of guy. It made for some good laughs. Every sexual interlude they share is packed full of dirty talk that is written in a very descriptive manner. Tight End is the definition of erotic romance. Ms. McLeod painted a picture so vividly I felt like I was a spectator in Ryan and Phillip’s lives and bedroom.

This series is getting better with every new installment. Tight End isn’t a long read and could be read within one night. Quite honestly, once you start it, it might be hard to put down. If you’re a fan of this series we get some answers to questions that have lingered from the previous books.

I wholeheartedly recommend adding this book to your reading list!

I have to admit at times I got worried that things could easily get out of hand with this many “cooks in the kitchen” but the end result was a good story with solid characters and a pretty believable plot. The ending was a bit rushed, but Ms. Blake didn’t leave any loose ends or what ifs , which made this for a good read that I had a hard time putting down.

If this book is any indication of her caliber of work,I will definitely be looking for more work by Ms. Blake in the future. She would make a great addition to any reader’s paranormal collection of authors.

Still, the attraction between her and Slade was immediate and sent sparks from my eReader, and the struggle that ensues was entertaining to watch unfold. I will definitely be on the lookout for other works by Rita Sawyer, since this book had such great promise.
