A surrealistic story that highlights the beauty of love. Warning, this is a bittersweet tale. It is not something for the faint of heart. There’s a touch of the epic within this story, for it portrays something epic, how a bright star slowly dims and comes to acceptance.

Jacob is the central focus of I Am Fallen and he is a very immediate character. I felt myself immediately connected to him and sympathetic to him without feeling pity. He’s so unflinchingly honest in his appraisal of himself and his regrets in his life. There is no part of this story that came across as soapbox sentimental. It was unique and refreshing, raw and honest.

If love angst mixed with moments of joy, you might very well enjoy this story and be taken into another place and time. Ms. Blackwell captures the experience of being chronically ill so much that what the body is capable of focusing on and perceiving becomes numbed out. Yet still being human and having yearning and feelings that render one feeling powerless, weak, beyond vulnerable. There’s a sharpness given to the moments of joy and greater awareness that Jacob experiences. He gives freely of his newfound wisdom to those around him.

This is a love story above all else. Jacob and Lucifer share a love that transcends the physical realm. They take strength from each other, they learn from each other. They grow. Lucifer’s character was well done. He contains all the passion and contradictions one would expect a fallen angel to have. I Am Fallen has a breathtaking happy ending but it is not the typical one. I loved it.

I Am Fallen really shows the versatility and depth that Ms. Blackwell possesses as an author. She tackled the tricky issues of sickness, death, regret and religion and wove them into a masterpiece of transcendence and love.

Dr. Sheridan Scott is everything Darcy needs and wants. I love how he seems to anticipate Darcy’s needs and is willing to meet them all the way. One thing I did question was in the beginning he seemed to be just enjoying life and looking for a quick hookup, but that quickly changes when he meets Darcy. I would have liked to have seen a bit more to understand why he felt the need to seek something more permanent from Darcy. However, I will say I would have done the same in his position.

The plot of this story is based around the relationship development of Darcy and Sheridan. I was completely caught up in the relationship from beginning to end which made this a very easy read. The story moves at a brisk and comfortable pace, the pages just seemed to fly by, I finshed and was surprised I had read over a hundred pages so quickly. This is a story I would recommend to anyone who loves a romance story with an erotic twist.

And when she does make the decision, I felt like I was actually thrown into her next dilemma; two hunky guys waiting for attention.

The opening scenes are described in such a way I really felt like I was in the scene experiencing this area of the California coast, and the community of witches.

Daniel, her partner in helping her solve the vicious murder, is likeable and very realistic. Even though he’s a mortal and she’s not, you get a feeling that this will be a good match, both on and off the job.

Despite this being a full length novel, the pacing was fast. I found myself reading more and more at each sitting to find out what would happen next. The secondary characters are well drawn too and everyone’s dialogue is natural sounding. I thought the mystery and romance was well balanced. I must admit I’m partial to a good suspense story. This was the first time I’d read one that was a solid mystery with a paranormal twist. Something I’m now hooked on and would like to see more of.

I’m a fan of real life everyday characters and there’s nothing more real and more heart wrenching then dealing with the death of a loved one. This story puts forth the knowledge just because someone you care died doesn’t mean you stop living. This book was a slow, easy read that takes you on a journey into Cameron and Jason’s life. Deefur may just be a dog but he played matcher maker in this tell. For all dog lovers and romantics at heart this will be a book you would be glad you read.

This story was the perfect example of a tender romance. The characters were well rounded and believable. The range of emotion displayed was truly impressive. I now have this author on my auto-buy list because she is so good at telling charming tales that involve real people, real problems, and true love that everyone dreams of. I definitely recommend picking it up as soon as you can.
