There’s one other encounter and it’s integral to the plot conflict and movement.

Eli and Astrid were two characters that worked well together in all aspects of their relationship. They were yin-yang; he’s proper yet she’s wild, he’s hiding but she’s confident, he’s stagnant and she’s progressive. Even though they come from different parts of the social spectrum, they are still man and woman, and they play off of one another beautifully. It’s while they are building the device for the fair that they work out their differences until they realize just how perfect they are for each other. It’s not as easy as I make it seem because the one big flaw they both have is stubbornness. A mule could take lessons from them. It takes a different secondary character to dangle the carrot to get the protagonists past themselves.

Since Astrid is the creator of many fascinating vibrating objects, a reader can expect the exploration of their use and resulting hot flashes. Readers will not be disappointed. Ms. Winters’ knows her way around a sexy scene, alone and with partners, and delivers quality spice with just the right amount of quantity to please most erotic romance readers.

The final scenes that lead to the happy ever after were classic romance and very satisfying. An erotic romance fan can’t go wrong in reading Combustion. This book was entirely different from the story I had expected. It was a pleasant surprise that the author put a unique twist on the romantic relationship by making the hero a virgin. At heart it was a sweet coming home story about two friends finding their way back together and discovering they were perfect for each other all along.

This story was so well written that it was infused with feelings and I could tell that Matt and Dara had a real close bond. They had real history together, best friends growing up, despite a family feud that never died down. They were always there for each other, so much that Matt donated his sperm for Dara so that she could have a baby after her cancer treatments were done. Sadly, they fell out and drifted apart for a decade, until circumstances threw them back together again. Matt was now a self made billionaire retired at a young age , back in their hometown struggling with some health and family issues. Dara shows up newly divorced and now carrying his child. They rekindled their friendship when she offers to let Matt be a father to their baby. Things get interesting, and sexy, when she discovers that Matt is still a virgin after all these years. Dara has been around the block a few times and agrees to teach him a few things in the bedroom.

These two had a great chemistry and the relationship was well developed so that it was believable. They did a lot to support each other throughout the story, and I felt their bond, the devotion and their curiosity as the relationship became more romantic. That’s not to say that they didn’t stumble a few times along the way. There were some mistakes and hurt feelings, but the most drama came from their circus of overbearing, feuding in-laws. It all ended in a realistic way after Matt and Dara stopped playing games with their family. I liked the nice epilogue and how nothing was magically glossed over.

Overall, this book was incredibly well written. It had an easy pace and some lighthearted humor, the dialogue between Matt and Dara being a subtle combination of snarky and touching. To sum it up it was a thoughtful romance, with love scenes that were hotter than I had imagined. A very enjoyable book !

Their interaction is lovely and I truly enjoyed this book, especially when it got to the spicy, hot bits.

The book has a nice blend of friendship, romance and light heartedness, along with intrigue and danger from another source. Looks like this is going to be a good series.

I haven’t read all of these books but I have read enough of them that I enjoyed seeing past characters.

However, I can definitely say that is a story that can be enjoyed and read all by itself. I highly recommend it and look forward to any future stories revolving around the Ugly Stick Saloon.

Theodora Speer usually spends her days covered in paint bringing the past back to life for her employer, the Columbian Exposition Museum (I’m guessing inspired by the real life Field Museum in Chicago). Art, magic and romance mix together in a delightful palette when Theo comes face to face with a four thousand year old immortal named Seth Adler. He is as determined to hold onto his secrets as Theo is to reveal them.

What I loved about the God Collector was author, Catherine Butzen’s, creative new take on a very old legend.

The beginning had some pacing issues. I spent way too much time following Theo throughout her work week behind the scenes of a major museum. And although I actually have painted myself for many years the constant description of everything in painterly terms grew tiresome after a while. Describing blood as Cadmium Red was too much even for me. But once the mummy was predictably stolen, things got interesting. The author did do a great job describing Chicago (a city still on my bucket list) and she also did a wonderful job of bringing a slice of ancient Egypt to life.

What really made me glad I read this book was the fact that the author had a nontraditional romantic hero. Seth was a great character. I would have enjoyed a little more time spent in his head than following Theo around in her studio mixing paint. Regardless of the slow intro the most important thing that attracted me to this character was that he wasn’t a vampire, sheik or widowed rancher in Montana. Sorry Harlequin, but I’m so bored by those bland romantic stereotypes, I could scream. There is a part in the book where Seth tells Theo he wants to show her his burial site and the Egypt he loved so dearly when she realistically responds it’s too dangerous because of political instability. He gets angry and says, “To hell with politics. I have more of a right to see Kemet again than anyone else.” That line really defined him for me as a character more than any other in the book. He is a man removed from humanity by his circumstances, yet is terribly afraid to lose his connections to his past.

If you are like me and bored beyond belief with ranchers, navy seals and CEOs all cut from the same literary cloth, you’ll love The God Collector, a truly unique read.

After a flustered conversation asking him to keep the noise level down she somehow found herself agreeing to go out to dinner with him. Lauren was panicked, but didn’t want to turn down the opportunity once it had been thrust at her. Despite feeling in over her head, maybe it was time for her to start trusting men again….

This was a really heart warming story with a solid plot and interesting characters. I connected almost immediately with both Lauren and Gabe and had a strong interest in seeing them come together. Lauren could be too independent at times, but having had to come to terms with her life after losing much of her sight and rely mostly on herself it’s not a wonder she is how she is. A cheating ex husband also complicated her ability to trust and made me feel sympathetic and proud of her self accomplishments. I was also thrilled by how observant Gabe was. He caught onto all sorts of little things that usually go completely unnoticed or uncommented upon – with just a “he was really observant” tag. Things like he counted how many paces Lauren took to get to her front gate, then down to the corner of the street, and – before he knew she was blind – he realized that her steps were deliberate, carefully counted each and every time. That sort of detail really made me glow for Gabe and I was smitten even before he and Lauren went on their dinner date.

It was refreshing to also have whole chapters of being introduced to the characters, their personal situations and all these sorts of details. I loved the pace the story took. A slow burn – plenty of time to get to know the characters – and for them to come to fully appreciate each other. In that respect I found this to be a lovely example of a more traditional romance story, with time to relish each character and no need to rush. Having said this, the author didn’t dawdle when it came to the romance. I personally was thrilled that Gabe caught on to the half-lie Lauren told when they were introduced (that her “boyfriend” Jack was in fact her dog) and the issue of whether Gabe was chasing Lauren while she was “with another man” was mostly (for me at least) a moot point. But even so Gabe was tender with her, he didn’t rush Lauren but neither did he slink away and sulk. I thought much of these two interesting characters were balanced between reality and romance-book material.

I found the conflict part of the plot a little clichéd, but even so this was a minor issue when the characters were so fresh and interesting, and their romance really consumed center stage and kept my interest the whole book through. I loved the intimacy – smoking hot but not overly graphic or envelope pushing. Gabe and Lauren’s chemistry was just another reason I loved both their characters so much.

Overall I found this an amazing story full of excellent characterizations and a good, solid pace. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will happily look for more books by this author. Recommended.

Lately, I’ve read so many stories featuring second chance romance. The Royal Affair is one of those stories. In this story, Princess Marina Palmera met New Zealand horse breeder Jonas Wilder at her brother’s wedding. After spending a wonderful month together, Jonas left Marina without saying goodbye. Four years later, an older, wiser and more sophisticated Marina meet Jonas again. This time they meet in New Zealand. They still long for one another but they are not able to communicate that. Luckily, Jonas’ daughter brings them together again.

My biggest issue with second chance romances is that former lovers are sometimes so full of resentfulness. They are also often rude toward one another at the beginning of the story. It’s becoming a bit cliché. And yes, the trope is present in The Royal Affair, luckily it’s also toned down. Jonas is rude to Marina even though she was one left behind. For that reason I did not like Jonas for Marina in the beginning. To his credit, he is a caring father.

I did like Marina. She’s pictured in a realistic way. She struggles with a lot of things at the same time. Foremost with her emotions toward Jonas, and then also with the role that was gave to her by her birth. Suddenly being dutiful princess became a heavy burden for her. But luckily everything turns out just fine in the end.

The Royal Affair would be just another second chance romance if not for the end. In one of the final chapters, Marina finally put her foot down and takes a stand toward Jonas and his behavior. I adore that scene. It was so good and powerful and what is most important it lifted the story and I started to believe in Marina and Jonas’ HEA.

All in all, The Royal Affair is fun read that I recommend it to those who like royal romances and/or second chance romances.

I really loved Mack’s character. Forty-six and normally in control, Mack is a man who knows himself. But he’s let his love-life wither into nothing after the devastating loss of his wife. Karen is determined to feel more like herself again. After being cheated on and all but ignored by her ex, she’s ready to live, to feel and experience passion and happiness. I was delighted how honest Mack and Karen were with each other – from their initial meeting onwards. Karen is very up front about how she’s not looking to marry again, but just to connect, to be treated well and enjoy companionship. And Mack also admits now his sons are grown and gone he can go a week in winter without speaking face to face with another human being it can be very lonely. He’s finally ready himself for some companionship as well. I felt from the beginning both Mack and Karen were in a similar space and knew they’d easily be able to give what the other wants while still being true to themselves.

The sex is hot and wonderful. I love how both Karen and Mack really got into it – talking a lot and sharing their wants and needs with each other. While the sex is descriptive and prolific, I don’t feel there’s anything that could be offensive or too envelope-pushing for most romance readers. It is graphic though, so more traditional readers mightn’t find this as well-written as I did. I was also impressed how the author used the intimacy of Karen and Mack coming together to really deepen both their connection and our understanding of their characters. It wasn’t just scene after scene of descriptive sex, but a lot of talking, discussion and sharing of their thoughts and bodies. I felt this really helped me appreciate and understand them both better.

I also really enjoyed how even after their scorching first date, both Karen and Mack needed some time apart – Mack in particular. They both have baggage, and their own issues to work through, and instead of glossing over them, or using their pasts to create conflict between them, Mack needed to sort through his emotions and expectations. I was delighted by how the author wrote this – walking that fine line between not dwelling or sulking, but also still taking the time needed to go over the issues and sort them out. I felt this really showed the strength of Mack’s character and I was impressed that Karen didn’t hassle him or become clingy as so many heroines tend to in this situation.

Overall I found this a well rounded story with engrossing, vivid characters and plenty of personal history and baggage. Add in some smoking hot sex and a wonderful connection and chemistry between the main characters and this is a cowboy story I feel is sure to appeal to many readers. Recommended.

She comes up with the idea she’ll travel with him and pretend to be his wife so she can try to locate the killer.

Both the cop and the killer are determined so the final confrontation is horrific, exciting, and a toss-up. You’ll keep flipping those pages until the end. Mr. Red knows how to keep your attention. Brett Harrison’s pregnant twin sister has signed him up on a dating site, without his knowledge. Equal parts horrified and annoyed, Brett desperately wants to take the profile down, but his first date has already been arranged. Brett can’t believe he’s been wrestled into a coffee-date, but when he starts to read what Melly had sent “him” he has to be honest, he can’t let this woman down. Resigned, Brett decides he can meet Melly, have a cup of coffee and they could both go their separate ways afterwards. Then he could take down his profile and life could revert to normal. Right?

This is a fun, lighthearted story about a previously-burned cowboy and a klutzy, shy English teacher. I really enjoyed the reality of Melly’s previous dates – being stood up, not connecting with the men. I also was completely sympathetic with the fact Melly had signed up hoping that “Fun Melly” would come back from wherever she was hiding and was disappointed with how so far she wasn’t in sight. I could really empathize with just how hard online dating can be at times. I also enjoyed Brett’s character. While initially he seemed more the cookie-cutter kind of cowboy, the author did a great job of infusing his character with small traits that made him stand out more – like holding Melly’s seat out for her, or questioning her on why she joined up to the online dating sight. This helped me overall really connect well with both characters and had me liking them from an early stage in the story.

There was a twist in the plot about half way through, that I found fresh and different. My only disappointment from the story was that much of the second half of the book revolved around this twist – a business purchase of Brett’s – and complications arising from that. I couldn’t help but feel the growth of Brett and Melly’s relationship took a bit of a back seat for much of the latter half of the book. Added to that, the conflict, hurt feelings and mis-communications really had me feeling that up until the last two chapters or so that Brett and Melly’s relationship hadn’t progressed much at all. I didn’t feel they trusted each other very much emotionally and they really seemed to have a few major differences still blocking their way. So their reconciliation at the end felt quite rushed. I felt, when told “they both fell in love”, the author was needing me to take it on faith that their feelings had deepened and grown as time progressed, as this deepening of emotion wasn’t shown but instead skimmed over. A part of me wonders if the author was caught out on a word-limit or something like that, and the plot (which I did find interesting and well written) had taken over much of the growth of the relationship between Brett and Melly. For a romance story I felt this rush at the end really detracted from my enjoyment of the story as a whole, and I was quite saddened by it.

Overall, though, this is a fun and lovely book. I greatly enjoyed Brett and Melly’s characters and found them to be not only relatable but also realistic with “normal” flaws – not perfect but real. I also really loved how there was a proper plot, not just a hastily thrown in conflict or silly miscommunication. The plot added to the story, but also helped show more of both Melly and Brett’s character, dreams and desires. While I found the ending a bit rushed and I, personally, would have loved to see more of the growing depth to their relationship, this is a solid, well written and emotional read that left me feeling happy and good. A great new author to me, and one I will happily look for again.
