All Sandman wants is to get away from his violent past on Hell’s End, but trouble follows him, leaving him with more blood on his hands and a one-way ticket aboard a crewless prison transport on a pre-set course for Deimos.

By the time he realizes the transport’s actual destination is a mystery, there’s only one other prisoner he can trust. He doesn’t like it, or the things Vijay makes him feel. Caring makes you weak. Makes you easy to hurt. And Sandman’s never been easy, or weak.

Vijay is focused on what he’s always done best. Survival. But Sandman is an enigma, fearless in battle yet terrified of tight spaces. Vijay finds himself longing to break through the fierce young warrior’s shell.

After crash landing on an uncharted planet, they stumble on the justice system’s dirty little secret—the Farm, where prisoners go in but never come out. When the Farm’s threat gets personal, Sandman and Vijay each test the limits of endurance to protect the man at his back—and in his heart.

One’s man hell can be another man’s paradise. Sandman is eager to leave Hell’s End behind for a new start on Mars. Except before his new life can begin, he becomes embroiled in a political tug-of-war and ends up crash-landed on Earth. The only other survivor is Vijay, a man who’s presence in the same craft is kind of Sandman’s fault. However, they both have to put aside their feelings of mistrust to navigate a new and scary world on Earth. With no one to trust and rely on besides each other, Sandman and Vijay must learn to survive and maybe even thrive in the new and hellish world.

Hell on Earth is book two in the Hellscape series by Ally Blue, however, newcomers to the series do not need to read the first book to understand this one. The first book in the series introduces the main character Sandman but focuses more on other characters and the political climate of Hell’s End. In this book the same world building applies but it’s used in much more general ways. It’s still a dystopian/futuristic world where politics are too confusing to follow, though the general vices of greed, cruelty, and heinous acts to the poor still apply. The focus on this second book is the relationship between Vijay and Sandman as they navigate through unfamiliar lands and people. The plot keeps the tension high and action nearly constant to help cover some of the holes in the world building.

If the world building isn’t as strong as it was in the first book, the characterization is better this round. Both Sandman and Vijay leap off the page with their complexity and hot passion. There are a couple of scenes that threw me, mostly because I am not a fan of rimming and I couldn’t stop thinking about how hygiene in a post-apocalyptic world is simply non-existent so… we’ll just say that didn’t work for me. Other than that I really quite enjoyed the couple together and was quickly invested in their outcome as individuals and a couple. They are very nuanced characters with a lot of depth. Thankfully the same can be said of the supporting cast. Although quite large, I identified most of the secondary characters and could remember them as well.

I actually liked the second book in the series more than first because I connected with the protagonists as a couple much more. Plus the non-stop action really kept the pages turning and my attention nearly glued to the story. I would sit to read for 10 minutes and not look up for an hour or more, unaware of the time flying by. To me, that’s a great story. I always look for those stories that I can engage and immerse myself in the created world. I personally love post-apoc fiction so keep that in mind but science fiction fans would probably really enjoy this offering. You don’t need to have read the previous book to catch up and follow along on this one and arguably; this is actually a better book to start. At least in my opinion.

Determined to overcome the lingering self doubts her cheating ex left behind, Sara James scrapes up the courage to join Club 3 where her instant, powerful attraction to Trace Bowen, the head Dom, sends her running in the wrong direction.

From the moment he rescues Sara from the clutches of a coked-up Dom, Trace is enthralled. She s beautiful, brave, and poised on the edge of blossoming into the sub of his dreams. In the initial rush of enchantment, though, he omits a minor detail that causes a major problem.

Back in college, Trace was Kai Kalo-Haimani s first love until Kai s straight-laced family demanded he walk the line. Now Kai is back, heart in his hands, to ask for another chance. Even if it means accepting Sara as part of the package.

Despite her attraction to both men, Sara s old demons come roaring back, threatening to push her back inside her shell of insecurity. Unless Trace and Kai can convince her that not only is she enough for one man, she s more than enough for two.

Sara James finds Trace Bowen extremely attractive, but he’s definitely out of the safe range that she likes to live in. Kai, the sweet man who lives next door, is a much safer option, especially since he’s in Portland to find his lost lover.

Trace manages to sneak under Sara’s shields after he saves her from a dangerous situation in his BDSM club, and being so steady with her throughout it all. Trace works his way into her heart and life, and she’s a bit thrown because she’s also attracted to Kai. This is really evident when Kai’s lost lover is Trace himself.

Because of her past, Sara is not sure she’s good enough for one man, let alone two. This story has a satisfying ménage when the three finally get together. My one complaint with this story is that we spend so much time with Trace and Sara as a couple with Sara having a side attraction to Kai. We get to see from both Kai and Trace’s point of view their college love affair, but Kai being introduced as a third seemed a bit rushed. It does work, because Trace and Kai are already in love, and Sara and Kai are half in love, but I would have loved more time with them as a trio.

I can only hope the author revisits these characters. This is the third book in the Club series, and I had no problem following along and where the characters fit in. I really love when an author does such a great job setting up a series book as a stand-alone. I very much recommend this for fans of ménage where the men are just as in love with each other as the lady involved.

It all starts with sex under a desk…

Heart of Fame, Book 7

After yet another month without a lead singer, the band Synergy is on the verge of calling it quits. Which drives Jaxon Campbell, keyboardist and perpetual player, to do something dangerous—hit up a woman with contacts—and curves—in all the right places. Trouble is, the last time he saw her, he kind of broke her heart. And stole her cherished, autographed AC/DC album.

Natalie Thorton, Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, knows everyone who’s anyone in Australia’s music industry. She’s driven and utterly professional and doesn’t have room in her schedule for relationships.

When Jaxon strides into her office, all of Natalie’s suppressed sexual urges—the ones born in Jax’s arms—surge to the surface. He wants something from her? Well, she wants something from him. Orgasms. Lots of them.

How can Jax say no? He’s never forgotten her, and it’s not like they’re going to fall in love. But just who’s playing who? And whose heart is going to fall first?

Getting Played is the latest episode of Lexxie Couper’s Heart of Fame series, and the hottest one yet. I like this world Ms. Couper has built, and the people that inhabit this world.

Time is running out in the search for a replacement for Nick Blackthorne. Synergy has just a few weeks left to find someone at least as talented as Nick, or lose the chance at the movie theme song they are supposed to record. Keyboard player Jax Campbell steps up and takes one for the band by offering to contact the one woman from his past that he has never completely forgotten…Natalie Thorton, Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The history between these two is hot in the extreme, and they parted on less than amicable terms, so Jax isn’t sure how this will play out. But he has to try, because if anyone can find a singer for them, it will be Nat. Natalie has never forgotten Jax, and despite the past, she agrees to help him, by issuing a challenge…for every suitable candidate she proposes, Jax will provide her with an orgasm. Nat convinces herself that it is only sex, and sex with Jax was the best and most exciting she ever had. As for Jax, Nat is the one he never quite forgot, and he remembers all the passion of their past. But these two forgot to tell their hearts to stay uninvolved, and that is when it gets hot. Can Nat find that elusive someone that would be the perfect singer for Synergy, without falling in love with Jax? Will Jax discover his true feelings for Nat before he loses her yet again? Can these two learn that while the sex is fantastic, adding love to the mix makes it even better?

It has been an enlightening and entertaining journey in a search for Nick Blackthorne’s replacement, a task that quickly becomes nearly impossible. With this book, I enjoyed the rock star antics of Jax Campbell, as he comes to realize that there is more to life than just playing around, and Natalie learns that being serious all the time isn’t for her at all.

Jaxon ‘Jax’ Campbell is the epitome of the rock star bad boy. Handsome and sexy, he has literally slept his way around the world. He thinks love is overrated and not in his plans, but then he sees Natalie again, and suddenly he is thinking of things he never knew he wanted. When Nat challenges him, he accepts her terms, but plans to get his own way too. I liked watching as Jax finally grew up and discovered what was important in his life, and how far he would go to get it. He has to face the real possibility that he has lost the one good thing in his life, Natalie’s love, in order to finally open his heart to all love offers.

Natalie ‘Boxhead’ Thorton is smart, funny and very determined not to lose her head, or her heart, to Jax Campbell again. She comes up with her challenge as a way to show Jax he has no hold over her heart, and she thinks she can forget the past and just use him for some outstanding sex, then walk away. I liked Natalie, with her serious persona and her naughty inner vixen. I like that she was adventurous and able to match Jax at every turn.

Watching these two is like watching a classic romantic comedy; every time you think you know what is coming, one of these two people throws a curve and off they go on another adventure in sensuality. I especially liked the scene in Natalie’s office, featuring the Federal Minister for the Arts and Culture, Natalie, and a naked Jax under the desk. Very hot and totally hilarious at the same time. There are many such scenes, and many unique places for Nat and Jax to visit and enjoy. The big question…do they find the replacement that this whole adventure was set up to find? No spoilers from this reader, this is one that has to be experienced to be appreciated. This is best read with the AC on high cool, and plenty of iced drinks to be had. Oh, and check out Jax’s tattoo, too.

And he realizes the key to their healing is standing in Levi’s arms.

As an erotic romance editor, nothing much unsettles Sonja Stone. She’s not even surprised at her body’s powerful reaction to Levi’s kiss. But when Corbin approaches them, eyes smoldering with hunger, his suggestion shakes her to the core.

Sensing their unspoken wounds, Sonja agrees to take a chance on a threesome. Their union is explosively perfect, but something is holding Levi back from sealing their searing emotional connection. Something that could destroy their love once and for all…

Blame It on the Bass is the latest is Lexxie Couper’s Heart of Fame series, and it takes a look into the life of bass player Levi Levistan, a very private man going through a painful patch and having trouble opening up to his partner Corbin.

As the search continues for a lead singer for Synergy, bass player Levi Levistan has left it all up to his band mates, while he and his partner Corbin Smith retreat from the public eye to mourn the loss of their daughter and her mother. Levi is handling the loss like he has handled things his whole life, by shutting everything inside and not talking it through. Corbin loves Levi, but he needs Levi to share his feelings, so after a bitter discussion, Corbin leaves for a bit, to think. Levi needs to find something to keep him from losing it all, and ends up at a karaoke bar to have a drink and unwind. When he spots his high school sweetheart on stage, he joins her for a song and they end up in a hot embrace, just as Corbin comes in the door. Instead of being upset, Corbin realizes that this woman has brought some life and spirit back to Levi, and he suggests that they invite Sonja back to their place. Levi is shocked by Corbin’s idea, and also turned on, but worried that Corbin might not be into it. When these three discuss things, Levi and Corbin are able to convince her that they both want her to stay, and she wants to believe them. Can three be the perfect number in this relationship? Can Sonny help these two wounded men heal and rejoin in the life around them?

I like this world, and the interaction between the main characters. There is a past with Sonja, and it is portrayed in bits and pieces through these two people’s memories. I love this series, and enjoy the search for the elusive talent needed to replace the irreplaceable Nick Blackthorne.

Levi Levistan and Corbin Smith are a committed couple, in the midst of the single most devastating period in their relationship. They had looked forward to the birth of their daughter via a surrogate, and when the senseless accident took both the child and her mother from them, each man reacted differently. Corbin grieved openly, and needed to share his grief with Levi, while Levi buried his grief and pain deep inside himself. I like that, although Corbin left, he realized that he still loved Levi, and needed to find a way to get through to Levi and help him heal. I love that he felt secure enough with Levi to accept and welcome Sonja into their lives, their homes, and finally, into their hearts.

Sonja ‘Sonny’ Stone is strong, determined and unflappable. She has to be in her career as an editor of erotic romances, but even she is shaken a bit by Corbin’s suggestion. I like that she shares a past with Levi, and knows and understands how he handles pain and stress in his life, and I liked seeing how she reacted to both Levi and Corbin. She has such an open and adventurous nature, and she fills the place inside both men that neither knew was there.

This is a poignant and touching story, one of pain and loss and starting anew. There are some sad moments, but there are many joyous ones as well, and when disaster strikes, Levi and Corbin are able to face it together and make sure Sonny stays right where she belongs…between these two attentive and loving men. This one is for those who like their romance unconventional and hot…and I do mean hot! I’m looking forward to seeing how the search for Nick’s replacement works out, and I recommend this series in its entirety to those who like lots of screaming hot romance with a peek inside the life of a band.

Two hundred years after the Tuatha de Danaan and Vampires formed a fragile alliance, the Wraith Accords are unraveling. Isabel Santiago is a leader in one of the most powerful of the vampire cabals, and she agrees to join the Fae court as a gesture of goodwill—and damage control.

While Aed mac Goll’s loyalty to Fae is absolute, he’s never supported the accords which gave the Vampires sanctuary and restored the Tuatha de’s link to humanity. The very idea he could desire an undead human is unthinkable, yet he’s drawn to Isabel’s dark beauty and fierce intelligence.

Despite their mutual mistrust, they soon find themselves lost in a dangerous game of lust and power. When the treaty shatters amid calls for Isabel’s head, Aed realizes their connection is more than physical. And to save it, they’ll have to unravel a mystery that’s been a thousand years in the making.

I love fantasy worlds, and this was a new and fun world that had enough myth and history to make it somewhat familiar. It has both the fantasy aspect of the Fae with the gritty paranormal aspect of vampires. I enjoyed this mash up of two strong mythos, especially since they were weaved together with expert care and attention to detail.

Isabel is a record keeper for the vampires, it’s her job to keep the history and she’s great at keeping her cool, so she’s the perfect candidate to be the ambassador to the Fae. She doesn’t expect to be attracted to one of them, certainly not the one tasked to protect her.

Aed is loyal to the Fae first and the throne second, but he finds himself putting Isabel before the throne even, with his intense attraction.

These two act on their attraction quickly and it works for the story. I loved their chemistry and the creativity used in the scenes. They then have to work together to unravel secrets within the Fae, and trust each other, and trust doesn’t come easily to two sworn enemies.

I really hope this is a series, because I love the world the author has built here. I highly recommend this story and this world, I will be following this author.

Every first love deserves a second chance.

Shelby Patterson has come back to Texas for one reason and one reason only—to get her husband to sign divorce papers. She’s worked hard to build her California bakery, where clients clamor for her one-of-a-kind creations.

Seven years after her disastrous marriage, she’ll finally have everything in perfect order—just as soon as Ritter McCoy signs the dotted line.

It works best when men stimulate icks.org levitra mastercard their arousal. Ritt is still pissed that Shelby walked out all those years ago without giving their marriage a chance. Sure, they were young and had just lost the baby that had rushed them to the altar, but they’d loved each other beyond reason.

Ritt gave up his college baseball scholarship, only to have Shelby and her mom take his parents’ bribe money and run. If Shelby wants those papers signed, she’ll just have to wait until he’s good and ready.

Or maybe, before she flies the coop again, he can convince her the love they had between them is still there—and still hot enough to melt their hearts back into one.

Everything is not just bigger in Texas, it seems everything is also more complicated. At least, that’s how it seems when Shelby comes home to get her husband to sign the divorce papers.

The author managed to show the tension between Ritt and Shelby very nicely; there’s attraction but also the insecurity and fear that they feel because of the events from seven years ago. Both are presented as complex characters, with believable development and complicated emotional lives. The other characters were well-written despite having very small roles.

The novella was the perfect length to tell the story with an effective pace. I was slightly disappointed by the ending (I’m referring to Ritt’s secret) that felt a bit out of character and threw a shadow on an otherwise fitting resolution. It made the ending less believable and therefore less satisfying. The wonderful characters deserved better.

The story could benefit from better copy-editing and fewer clichés, but the characters and the story were compelling enough to help me ignore that. The conflict between the main characters was especially strong because it originated in a misunderstanding that was based on Ritt’s and Shelby’s emotions. The progression from their doubts and fears to realization and acceptance was nicely shown through the story and it made it easy to identify with them.

I wished for the story to never end, I couldn’t get enough of Ritt and Shelby. This is a hot summer read.

Hungry Heart proves that hot romance goes nicely with hot sauce.

Darcy, the sous chef at the Rose, and the King with his barbecue business practically leapt off the page from the first scene on. The tension between them was palpable, not just because of their personalities, but also because of their professional competitiveness.

While I was instantly drawn in by the chemistry between Harris and Darcy, it took me a while to really feel anything for Andy and Chico. They were perhaps both a bit too passive and I didn’t feel any passion between them until late into the novel. Especially compared to the internal conflict that Darcy faces throughout the story, the other characters seem almost bland. But eventually, even Chico and Andy grew on me.

The descriptions of the Texas barbecue culture felt very authentic and they gave a special charm to the story since they were a convincing background to the romance. The rivalry and professional envy only raised the stakes for the protagonists and added to the conflicts and tension in the novel.

Although the pacing of the story was good, I was a little bothered by the fact that the two love stories developed almost identically. Given the very different personalities of the heroes and heroines, I’d have expected very different dynamics between them. Instead, they develop similarly, with the same pace. I believe a different pacing for the two couples would have enriched the plot, particularly in terms of a more diverse rhythm.

I thought the resolution was done nicely, giving Darcy a happy ending that doesn’t jeopardize her career plans.

Introduction to the barbecue culture is not all that Hungry Heart offers. It serves the reader with a nice portion of romance and love, which makes it a perfect summer read.

With such nightmarish forces stacked against her, Alex’s options are few. Somehow she must save Grace, but to do so, she must pay an unimaginable price.

It’s easy to brush away a fleeting glance of something dark and wispy as a figment of your imagination, but what happens when the form begins to take on a curiously human shape?

One of the most important things any good ghost story needs is a gloomy, isolated setting. What makes Arnsay an even better place for Alex to figure out who or what has been following her around is how perfectly ordinary this community appears to be at first glance. Many small towns are slightly obsessed with the people who put them on the map, but what makes this one unique is how its chosen to remember Grace and her family. Their reactions to the legends surrounding her life and death are nearly as intriguing as Alex’s increasingly bizarre encounters with the paranormal.

It would have been helpful to have more character development in this piece. Alex’s reactions to the spirits she encounters are well done, but it was difficult for me to get a sense of the personality she had before all of this began. So much time was spent on showing how her paranormal encounters affected her that I didn’t get to know much about Alex as an individual.

Strong pacing made it hard for me to put this book down. Hints about the backstories of the ghosts that are haunting Alex pop up pretty early on in the plot. At times they involve some rather detailed flashbacks, yet jumping into a previous era for a little while made the present even more interesting due to how closely everything is tied together.

Saving Grace Devine is a solid choice for anyone who enjoys the darker, more unpredictable side of paranormal fiction. This is one of the creepier tales I’ve read recently, and I’m looking forward to reading it again.

Justice is a noble concept, but some criminals are so good that never have to worry about getting caught. Or do they?

Between taking advantage of people who had every reason to trust him and blaming everyone but himself for the bad decisions that lead him to robbery in the first place, Perry is the kind of protagonist that I love to hate. His intelligence and resourcefulness aren’t quite enough to make up for his many character defects, but they do make his journey even more interesting by providing glimmers of the person he could have been if he’d made different choices.

The foreshadowing in this story was a little too strong. I don’t mind having a good idea of what might happen ahead of time, but in this particular case the horror elements would have been even scarier had there been fewer clues about what was awaiting Perry around the next plot twist.

I’ve often wondered what antiques would say if they could speak. There’s something slightly eerie about a household object being passed down from one person to the next for many generations, and the mask in this book is no exception to that rule. This became even more true as Perry’s reactions to the things he hears, sees, and smells intensify. Thinking about the worst case scenario is scarier to me than having it spelled out plainly, and there was plenty of anticipation to be found as this plot built up.

Thief of Souls reads like a classic horror tale. There is a lot of creepy stuff between these pages for those of us who are fans of this genre!

But when a combination of unbearable heat wave and a case of the boredom blues knock her down, she longs to do something spontaneous…maybe even a little bit reckless.

Liam Harrison met Jade when she was sixteen—in the local cemetery. If he’s learned anything after eight years of friendship, it’s that Jade has a wild streak a mile wide. And while he doesn’t want to tame the adventurous woman, he wouldn’t mind showing her a few sexy ways to channel some of her impulsiveness. With him. In the bedroom.

When he proposes a sexy, no-strings-attached summer fling, Jade jumps at the chance to spice things up and indulge some pretty kinky fantasies. Then summer ends…and Jade comes to the uncomfortable realization that there’s only one place she’s comfortable in her own skin—Liam’s arms.

Summer Fling is the latest in the Compass Girls series from Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon. I love the world these ladies built, and am enjoying the antics and lives of this second generation of Compton Pass residents. This world is filled with passion, emotion and lots of fun as well. The heat level in this is high, and the characters are well defined and extremely likable. I like this world, and the people in it, and look forward to more in the future.

Summer is coming to Compton Pass, and for Jade Compton, it looks like more of the same old thing. Jade is restless, looking for something to fill her days and nights, something other than the usual work and family stuff. The daughter of Compton Pass’ sheriff has always lived life full out, looking for the next big challenge. Her cousin will be getting married in a few months, and Jade needs something to occupy her in a new and different way. Liam Harrison has been Jade’s friend for eight years, ever since the night they met by chance at the local cemetery the night of Jade’s sixteenth birthday. Over the years, he has gone from casual friend to someone he cares for a lot. When she expresses her feelings about the summer ahead, Liam surprises her with a challenge of sorts: have a summer fling with him. He hopes that, by the end of summer, he will be able to convince her to take a chance on a future with him, not just a short fling. Can Liam break through Jade’s defenses and show her that she deserves to be happy? Can Jade believe in happy ever after for herself? Will these two get past their pasts and find a future together?

Jade Compton is a willful and determined woman. She has a restless energy, and needs to be busy and active with new challenges. She has always felt that she needs to live twice as hard to experience life for her twin, her brother George, who died at birth. She doesn’t see herself as a desirable woman, and can’t picture a future for herself in a relationship with anyone. When Liam makes his challenge, she isn’t sure what he hopes to accomplish, but she is always willing to try new challenges. I enjoyed watching as Jade slowly came to the realization that Liam actually loves her, and that she actually feels the same for him. I liked the strength she showed in coping with her beloved grandmother’s encroaching problems due to Alzheimer’s disease, and loved the interaction with all of her Compton cousins.

Liam Harrison is strong and loyal, and handsome and sexy as well. He has stood by as Jade has been reckless and daring, and has grown to love her for who she is. He has grown from the young man mourning his lost fiancée to a dependable friend who has matured into the considerate man who realizes, before Jade does, exactly what she really needs from him at this point in her life. I like that he doesn’t try to change her, and wants her just as she is, faults and attitude included. I liked watching as he slowly worked past all of Jade’s defenses, and made a place in her heart.

This is a sexy and hot romance, with challenges for both of these characters. This one made me laugh, made me sigh, and at times it made me cry. There are some really hot scenes, and for those, I recommend air conditioning and ice water to help cool down. I found this to be a delightfully sexy addition to the Compass Girls series, and recommend it to anyone looking for lots of heat and passion.
