He’ll stop at nothing to protect her…even if it means hunting a killer.

Werewolf Braxton Devereaux is on the run. Accused of a murder he didn’t commit, he is forced to flee Pack Law, and the death sentence waiting for him. On the run from deadly assassins, he is nearly out of their reach when an assassin’s bullet hits its mark. Wounded, in pain, his wolf seeks shelter in the form of an unsuspecting and very beautiful woman.

Kate Wolph is busy trying to keep her Bed and Breakfast from going into foreclosure. The last thing she needs is an injured wild animal to care for. When that bleeding wolf transforms into a gorgeous man with blank eyes and a deadly smile, she should be terrified, not intrigued. Thrust suddenly into the supernatural world that surrounds him, Kate doesn’t know what to believe or who to trust. But the heat in Braxton’s kiss makes thinking all too difficult. And turning him away? Impossible.

Braxton has a reason to stay and fight, to uncover the truth. Kate is his reason now, and he’ll stop at nothing to protect her…even if it means hunting a killer.

I liked this novel even more than the other book I reviewed, Her Werewolf Bodyguard. Why? Because Her Werewolf Protector made me belly laugh, and had me sliding to the side of my chair because I was laughing so hard. Why? Because Ms. Vaughn introduced some authors on a writer’s retreat and the liquor flowed. What happens when these authors get tipsy? When they are introduced to Granny’s home party wares? Hilarity. What started off serious quickly morphed into one of the funniest scenes I’ve read in a while. For that reason alone, it shot the rating to a solid 5. Whenever I have a sad day, all I’ll have to do is read that chapter and I’ll get the giggles. Well done, Ms. Vaughn.
It has a psychological impact on most buy cialis soft of men who are over 60 still have sexual life. Now, this novel is not a romcom, it’s more romantic suspense but the comedic elements were well placed, well done and provided some much-needed levity during scenes that could have easily been written as serious and dark. I’m so happy the author wrote this book as she did. It was a wonderful balance.

Braxton is the hero whose suffering was propagated by the werewolf culture and the job he has as a Guardian. The poison he was exposed to did something to his physiology that was unheard of, which is a perfect reason for the hero to not act in his normal manner. And, it’s why I felt the plot worked. Drugs can affect a person in so many ways, especially with some of the worst side effects sounding like they came from a horror story starring a mad scientist with evil intentions.

Kate’s situation is sad. Her conflict is a trope that has been done before in movies and books; the unscrupulous builder with an eye on a family-owned business being in the way of the perfect development and who will do anything to get his way. He’s slimy to be sure, but he’s not the main antagonist; there are others but they have their sights on Braxton. Combine Kate’s dilemma and Braxton’s dangerous situation and a reader is in for an amazing time.

There’s a sad element in the story, that being Braxton’s mom and her inability to love him as she should. I believe the reason is valid because she is the victim of an abusive husband. She’s a broken woman who has been conditioned by her abuser. It doesn’t resolve in a Pollyanna moment – it’s more realistic and therefore adds to the gravity and depth of the book.

The romance that blossoms between Braxton and Kate was fun to watch grow. Pay attention to the small details about Kate and a reader will know why their relationship worked and why Barrett, Braxton’s boss, didn’t stop it either. The bedroom door is wide open but those scenes didn’t confine themselves to the bedroom. They’re not overly graphic so I enjoyed that aspect of their relationship.

I don’t want to write an overly long review, although there is a lot left unsaid because the author packed this full-length novel with a lot of detail, dialogue, adventure, suspense, twists and surprises. One of those surprises was particularly unpleasant, for me because of the descriptions used by the author, and for one of the main characters because of who it was. I couldn’t put this book down because there was always the question, what next? Ms. Vaughn delivered.

Her Werewolf Protector is a must read for fans of the Werewolf Guardian series. I think this book is the best one I’ve read so far. Most of them I’ve read out of order and I believe they can stand on their own two feet – well, four in this case. I do admit it was nice having read two back to back because the reading experience ended up being richer. No matter how they’re read, I think they provide wonderful romance and a satisfactory happy-ever-after. I’m a happy reader.

Marina is happy for her best friend. She has found love with an amazing guy. The only trouble is, the guy Marina feels a weird connection to is apparently not very nice. Life sucks.

This is the second book in the series, but I don’t feel like you HAVE to have read book one for it all to make sense. There are also snippets that I hope are for future books, all designed to tease and tantalize.

This is a light, contemporary romance, but with enough depth and suspense to make it a good romantic suspense book too. The writing is smoothly paced, with characters you get to know and like as the story progresses.

This story is wrapped up nicely for our characters with a promising HFN, surely leading to a HEA. Based on this book, I would love to read book one, and I can’t wait for Clothilde and Mark’s book! Definitely recommended by me.

I’ve not read many “end of the world” or “plague” type thrillers in the last eighteen months or so for the simple reason it feels rather like we’re currently living on one of those stories and I’m feeling pretty weary of it all. But I kept on seeing good reviews for this novel and it’s in a bunch of the stores lately so I finally caved in and bought a copy because I usually really enjoy them. I’m pleased I did because this was a good story – even if many factors of it hit rather close to home right now.

Considering this book was written before Covid-19 was a reality – let alone in pretty much every major headline worldwide – I feel the author did a remarkable job, both with his research but also with a pretty fair guess as to how a lot of the politics and medical bodies worldwide would react. A major factor in my enjoyment of this story was also that even though the book is quite political and medical focused – as you would expect in a plague type of mystery-thriller story – I feel all the major characters were highly relatable. The author has a really good and relaxed style of voice and writing and this made many of the characters really enjoyable to me, I could easily empathize with them and the situation they found themselves in and even some of the smaller characters, like Bambang, who were from a different culture, a different religion and a completely different walk of life, the author showcased Bambang in such a way I could not just see where his choices and actions came from, but why he made these decisions and I could easily relate to him despite our lives being completely different. It was a lovely feeling and really got me hooked into the story.

I admit I found the start of the story (maybe the first quarter of it or less) was a little slow moving. I strongly feel readers should stick with it though because there are a number of different, complex working parts to this story (different medical facilities, different parts of the world that are extremely important and different government/political regimes) that all need to be lined up, explained and laid out in order for the reader to fully grasp how all the dominoes fall once the virus gets out of control. Understandably there are a number of different things that all happen in tandem that need to be followed and having it all lined up correctly in the beginning is crucial. So while a part of me could see the pandemic begin to flourish and I wanted to go faster and faster the author did an excellent job really getting everything outlined clearly and all the characters introduced and ready for the explosion to occur.

In many respects this is simply a really well written pandemic story but in the current circumstances I find my enjoyment and tolerance for these stories fairly short. So the fact I really enjoyed this is testament to how well it’s written and how gripping I found the tale. Better still there is a solid “wrap up” and explanation at the end and while it was a bit of a twist (and dealt with very quickly) I was pleased that those loose ties were indeed wrapped up and we weren’t left hanging not really knowing how the outbreak happened. I’m not sure all readers will be as pleased as I was with the ending – and while I didn’t guess it, I would expect some readers probably will, but it was nice to not have dangling threads of plot and wondering for a while after I’d finished the book.

A solid and enjoyable read and one I will likely come back to another time.

Can Gia evade them on her quest to solve the riddle and figure out how to save her grandfather without being duped by the scroll’s delicious secrets, or will he be forever lost?

The truth will always come out in the end.

I adored Gia’s friendship with Vuyo. Both of these characters genuinely liked and respected each other. They disagreed at times like any two people are bound to do, but they both did an excellent job of listening to each other and taking their friend’s point of view into perspective when deciding what steps they wanted to take next to solve the mystery of what actually happened to Gia’s grandfather. I only grew to like these characters more as I got to know them better.

There were some pacing issues. The plot was slower in some scenes and faster in others. Either pacing style would have worked for these characters and storyline just fine, but I didn’t enjoy jumping around between them so often without any clear indication of why things had suddenly slowed down or sped up again. If not for this issue, I would have chosen a much higher rating as the mystery itself was well written.

The fantasy elements of the storyline were given exactly the right amount of space to develop. I was intrigued by the idea of a magical object that looked deceptively innocent but was actually quite dangerous to use. It fit the tone of the storyline well. These details also made me curious to learn more about where that item came from and why anyone would dare to use it once they’d realized what would happen to them if they broke the rules about how and when it should be used.

Anyone who loves magical middle grade mysteries should give The Seeing Scroll a try.

She enters a world she thought she never would and becomes darker in the process. She constantly faces hard decisions and does despicable things, for a good cause—to save her child. However, does the end justify the means? That is the big question, the point of the book. Her character is well drawn as well, and her demons from the past are even greater than Nate’s. By the end, readers will either understand her decisions or hate her. The secondary characters are described enough so that we understand even their motivations.

Tension constantly builds in this nail-biting drama. Emma tries to keep her activities away from her husband, and it is getting ever more difficult.

Other themes come into play: family, friendship, right versus wrong, health care, and addiction. These themes are treated with sensitivity and respect and offer readers much to think about. The decisions are complex, for all the major characters.

Christina McDonald has done a great job writing an entertaining book while giving it depth. I recommend this book for those who want a page turner with substance.

Gripping, packed with twists and turns from the first page to the very last, this stunning psychological thriller is a rollercoaster of a read that explores gaslighting, Stockholm Syndrome, disassociation, mental illness, existentialism, and the search for purpose in an absurd universe.

Nobody was supposed to survive this plague, but someone did.

I was mesmerized by how much detail was included in the first scene. It described the disorienting sensation of waking up alone after a serious illness. Elyse wobbled around on weak, shaky legs while performing basic living tasks like using the bathroom and finding something quick and easy to eat in her kitchen. She was so fragile in those moments that I immediately empathized with how vulnerable she was as someone who was still ill and had no one to look after her. This scene sucked me into the plot immediately. It was an excellent, if occasionally a little stinky, introduction to this character and her conflicts.

There were times when Elyse made decisions that defied all logical explanations. While I understood that her mental illness made it difficult for her to tell the difference between reality and her delusions at times, her reactions to similar stimuli were so varied that I could never tell how she might react the next time they happened. It was hard to get to know her under these circumstances, much less come up with many theories about what was really happening to her. I’m saying this as a reader who was fascinated by the conflicts she faced and couldn’t wait to see how her conflicts were resolved.

With that being said, the ending couldn’t have been better. It stayed true to Elyse’s understanding of how the world worked while also providing tantalizing hints about what might have really been going on with her. I also appreciated the fact that it left room for a few different interpretations for audience members who had other theories about the causes of the strange events she experienced after the plague ripped through her city. This was the sort of tale I’d love to discuss in a book club or with other readers who have strong opinions about the storyline.

I’d wholeheartedly recommend Among the Ruins to anyone who enjoys stories that can be interpreted in multiple ways.

Okay, when does book two come out? I am the queen of no patience. I didn’t realize Jackson was book one in a series. I cruised through this book loving life, then the end came and I panicked – I looked for more pages to turn. I was at the end already?!! While I loved the romance between the hero, Jackson, and the heroine, Aja, and I appreciated they achieved a happily ever after, I was not tickled that a major plot thread was left open to continue in book two. Although, I do recognize that making me crave for more is what makes a thrilling series. I’m already hooked on the Restoration Ranch series.

I’ve never read a book by LaQuette nor have I read a multicultural book, but I was head over heels while reading Jackson. With all those amazing plot twists, the writing style was riveting. I didn’t see the ending coming and being able to pull that off makes me classify this story as an original, well-done, unpredictable mystery. I was on the edge of my seat a few times during the action scenes.

The romance between Aja and Jackson was sizzling to boot. Jackson’s natural instincts to protect and Aja’s desire to help others often crossed hairs, but each had the best of intentions at heart.

The other characters in the story were well developed and I look forward to meeting with them all again when the second book comes out.

In conclusion, I can with good conscience enthusiastically recommend Jackson with the warning it might leave other readers like it left me, wanting the next book to be released as soon as possible.

Sounds convoluted? Readers are in for a wild time before they even get to that exciting bit of story reveal. All good qualities that will help Player heal and overcome some of his worst nightmares. Fans of the series will understand where those nightmares stem from, and what the nature of them will most likely be.

This romance novel is well-written, exciting, has lots of depth with opportunities for readers to feel like they’re in the thick of things, and enough hot and heavy sheet action to appeal to the habanero level of romance readers.

Some of my favorite scenes in the book all seem to happen at The Floating Hat. I believe readers are going to giggle, laugh or chortle at the antics of Preacher and Sabelia. It was completely out of character for Preacher to get all frantically excited, demanding, rapturous and argumentative all at the same time. It was comical and I enjoyed every sentence. I hope those fiery sparks mean something for a future book. That would be cool. But other things happen at The Floating Hat that aren’t as comical but no less fascinating. I enjoyed the time the author had her characters spend there.

The HEA is great and it was written well, giving me assurance that Player and Zyah are going to be okay. There will still be subjects they’ll have to work out, but that is actually realistic to life. As time goes on and people learn more about the other, compromise, forgiveness, laughter and love will see them through. The heroine and hero have a strong base to work from.

Parts of the ending wrap-up were anti-climactic. There was such a buildup that I had high expectations and yet once all the cards are on the table, I thought to myself, “That’s it? That’s all there is?” The interpretation of the eyes and how it ends felt like a letdown. As weird as this sounds, I thought it resolved too fast, too … happy? Considering how stressed everyone was, with good reason, you’d think I’d be happy it eventually led to something surprisingly unpredictable, but I’m kind of not. Not totally, anyway. Perhaps my anticipation was because of misinterpretation? I don’t know and it’ll be up to readers to decide for themselves.

Overall, Reckless Road is a wonderful addition to the series and quite a good read. It kept my interest from the first chapter until the very end and there was a lot of emotion and feelings affected along the way. I liked Player and Zyah, her grandmother, Anat, and a few other characters. The feeling of family is still solid and I think it’s one of the strong points of the novel and series as a whole. I think fans of the series are going to like this one. I know I did.

Welcome back to Camino Island, where anything can happen—even a murder in the midst of a hurricane, which might prove to be the perfect crime . . .

Just as Bruce Cable’s Bay Books is preparing for the return of bestselling author Mercer Mann, Hurricane Leo veers from its predicted course and heads straight for the island. Florida’s governor orders a mandatory evacuation, and most residents board up their houses and flee to the mainland, but Bruce decides to stay and ride out the storm.

The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are leveled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded, and a dozen people lose their lives. One of the apparent victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce’s and an author of thrillers. But the nature of Nelson’s injuries suggests that the storm wasn’t the cause of his death: He has suffered several suspicious blows to the head.

Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed in the aftermath of the storm and ill equipped to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson’s novels might be more real than fictional. And somewhere on Nelson’s computer is the manuscript of his new novel. Could the key to the case be right there—in black and white? As Bruce starts to investigate, what he discovers between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson’s plot twists—and far more dangerous.

Camino Winds is an irresistible romp and a perfectly thrilling beach read—# 1 bestselling author John Grisham at his beguiling best.

There are twists, turns and that’s just the storm! The story has it’s own punches and a thwack with a golf club!

I’d read the first book in the Camino series, Camino Island, and wanted to get back to Bruce’s world. Honestly, I liked Bruce, even though he’s portrayed as older than his seemingly 47 years. I got the idea he was in his sixties. Oh well. I liked him as the hero of this story. He’s got rough edges, he’s not perfect and he’s a bit of a pistol. I rooted him on.

Now I have to admit this book has so many twists and turns. There’s the hurricane that comes in and there is the dead body. Now a dead body in the midst of a storm isn’t all that shocking–it happens–but this is murder. I liked how the author wove the story of Nelson’s demise and kept me riveted throughout. I honestly didn’t see the end coming.

If you’re looking for a slower moving story with a cast of characters you’ll want to have as friends, then this might be the book for you.
