Ex-business owner and soon to be ex-husband Jake has had some rotten luck of late. His world is tumbling down around him, but it’s time to dust himself off and move on. Buying and fixing up the most dilapidated home he can find might be just the thing to get him back on track.

But Jake gets more than he bargained for when he meets former lawyer turned landscaper Dakota. Dakota is smart and ridiculously sexy—and Jake doesn’t have a clue how to act around him. After several gardening mishaps, Jake is sure Dakota thinks he’s completely inept.

Turns out Dakota is thinking something else entirely. And as Dakota gives Jake advice, an ear to listen, and helps him work through his issues, Jake realizes flowers aren’t the only thing blooming between them.

Jake’s pretty sure he could impress Dakota with his intelligence and skills, if only he could quit injuring him at every turn.

The house Jake buys is in need of more than just a little TLC. The way the author describes it, sounds like it would have been less trouble to raze it and start over. But that isn’t what Jake saw when he walked through the front door. He saw himself. The house needed the attention and talents of someone who knew what they were doing. It needed someone who would look beyond the issues and see the potential. It needed Jake and Jake needed Dakota.

This is a really sweet story. Jake and Dakota are likable characters and it was fun to watch their attraction grow at a steady simmer rather than boiling over at first glance. Dakota is very subtle, almost too subtle but that’s his character, in his way of showing Jake he’s interested. With the bits and pieces the author sprinkled in about who he was, it really made more sense than if he was suddenly all over Jake. They compliment one another.

The story covers a good space of time. I mean, this relationship doesn’t start and culminate within a week or even a month. As Dakota puts it, he wanted to do it right. He really kind of woos Jake slowly and sweetly and it isn’t until later that Jake recognizes it.

There could have been a word count restraint on this story but there were times that the telling outweighed the opportunity for showing. It doesn’t kill the story by any means but, I think it would have enhanced the flow and the reader involvement in the story to have been in the scene rather than reading over the scene. Some of the best moments are when they’re simply talking.

The heat is there, too. The sweet way that Dakota has of touching Jake on his back or his leg, it fits the moments. Neither character is determined to be the alpha male and yet it made sense that Jake would defer to him.

The secondary characters add to this story and round it out nicely. I would actually like to see if Matt and Jasper, together or separately, find their own match.

This short is a HFN but it has real potential for a HEA. Ms.Harding has a nice voice in writing and she’s someone I’d read again. Readers looking for a quick feel good romance should give Fixer Upper a read.

Sean Hutchins is having the worst day of his life…

After losing what he thought was his dream job, Sean Hutchins walks away to suddenly find not only his professional life, but also his personal life, falling apart. Seeking comfort in his best friend Cassie, the last person Sean expects to run into is Cassie’s big brother—and Sean’s long time crush—Cal.

Medicine Can Be A Great Help Medical experts researched for years viagra free order to come with up a promising formulation to treat erection troubles. The real greenback is in adult-based programs, which generic viagra pills usually offer a wide range of options. Cal is supposed to be on vacation visiting his baby sister, not babysitting her and her best friend, Sean. And he definitely is not supposed to be staring at Sean’s hot ass. But after spending some time with the guy, Cal finds himself having confusing feelings for him.

Should Cal act on his attraction? And can Sean find a way to put back the broken pieces of his heart and his life?

Sean loves his job. But when his section is reorganized he learns firsthand that the last one hired is the first one fired. Determined to make the best of it, Sean decides to get his life in order. But when he goes home and finds his quasi-boyfriend in the middle of an orgy, Sean is devastated. When Sean turns to his best friend, Cassie, for an evening of commiserations, he’s surprised but pleased her older brother Cal is visiting. Because Sean has had a major crush on Cal forever, and this might finally be his chance to do something about it.

This is an interesting short story about how life can finally turn a corner when everything seems darkest. I really enjoyed Sean’s character right from the start. I desperately wanted to help lift him up after he lost both his job and his boyfriend pretty much simultaneously. I could also see that Cal was exactly the sort of guy who’d be perfect for Sean. I was eager to see them come together and hopefully forge something wonderful – something that could set Sean on the right path to taking back control of his life.

In many ways I found this to be a very sweet story. Except for some sexiness while Sean is drunk, Sean and Cal don’t just jump right into bed. Their movement from a cool, removed friendship into a real relationship is slow and gradual. There are some steamy kisses and plenty of indications they both are eager for more – but there’s no true consummation to my mind until right at the end of the story. Readers looking for a quick, erotically spicy story might not find this satisfying. Those looking for more of an emotional attachment, however, and for that “slow burn” kind of romance I think should really enjoy this.

I was a little disappointed we never heard what happened with Cassie. While there was talk of her also moving along with Sean, we don’t hear anything about her after she gives Sean and Cal some space. I was very curious whether she, too, made the move or stayed back in San Francisco. While I appreciate she wasn’t a main character, as Sean’s bff and Cal’s sister I really felt knowing even briefly how her plans panned out would have rounded out the story perfectly and not left the plot feeling unfinished to my mind. Possibly though there’s a sequel planned and this will be resolved later. I hope so.

Readers looking for an almost sweet M/M, where characterization and the relationship are central and sex – while present – takes a backseat will really enjoy this book. It’s short enough I feel it can be read promptly and I really enjoyed the tone and warmth between Sean, Cal and Cassie. A great read.

Firehouse 69, Book 2

When Noah buys a classic ’68 Camaro from a fellow firefighter’s widow, he hopes it will ease some of the grief crushing his heart. After losing his partner to cancer a year ago, Hoyt never thought he’d feel the same kind of rush with another man. But his reaction to Noah throbs deep in his body like the rumble of his Harley.

LaForge seems like the perfect place to meet and work off some sorrow, to feel alive again. But the flood of desire quickly gets hot enough to melt their emotional barriers into unexpected connections.

Connections Hoyt isn’t sure he’s ready for…especially since history has a scary way of repeating itself.

Warning: Get your motor running for a Harley-riding hunk of muscle who doesn’t give a damn about the rules of being a Dom, and a firefighter who can take the heat. Buy a case of your favorite coolant. You’re gonna need it.

Since Noah had been semi-frequenting a BDSM club with his fellow firefighters, he’d discovered so much about himself. He found he liked being bent over and being paddled, and wearing a cock ring. Noah loved having a warm male hand guide his movements. Noah was deeply curious whether he’d love having his ass full, or his mouth, but he wasn’t keen to explore out on stage. He wanted to start a bit more privately. After purchasing a ’68 Camaro Noah goes to the local garage to have it tuned up. The mechanic, Hoyt, makes Noah feel unusually fluttery – and when Hoyt appears to silently recognize the keyfob Noah as from the BDSM club things only grow from there.

I really enjoyed this short story. The tone and pace was perfect to me – fast enough that I didn’t feel it lagging anywhere, but not rushed in any way. Hoyt and Noah talked, tested the waters between them and only then jumped into bed. More powerful than that – I really loved how both men had pasts and issues they needed to overcome. Both men had lost people close to them, and I particularly enjoyed how Noah recognized that sadness and loss in Hoyt. Neither man used the other as a sop or quick-fix either. They’d both taken time to balance themselves and they were both eager to explore the relationship as one part of their emotional recovery.

This book was extremely emotional to my mind. I love how the author and characters used BDSM not as a kink, or as something to shock and show off – but as a tool to come to grips with their emotion. Both Hoyt and Noah were interested in the BDSM lifestyle, but I really enjoyed watching them use that to help them emotionally. It gave the story a lot of heart to my mind and made the story that much deeper for me.

I found this to be a really strong, emotional read filled with some elements of BDSM and a wonderful romance. With a smattering of kink and sexy M/M there is plenty here that I feel will appeal to most readers. Recommended.

This is the first Liza Kay book I’ve ever read and I’m glad I picked it up. The story is interesting and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. The characters are unique and the setting was beautiful. I felt like I was in Norway with Ruben and Aleks.

I did enjoy the story, but there were a few quirks that kept me from fully enjoying this tale. One thing that kept tripping me up was the telling and not showing. I felt like I was right there in the setting, but I had a hard time sorting out the choreography when Ruben and Aleks were together. Another thing that might not bother everyone, but stuck out for me was the independently moving body parts. Plus, there were comments in the story that…made me uncomfortable. Once I got into the mindset that Ruben was a twink, that helped. Now, that said, I did like the book. With a little tweaking, this could be a really great story.

Bottom line, I liked reading about Aleks and Ruben. They’re great characters. I hope the author revisits them. I’ll read it.

When tragedy strikes and Bobby needs Keith, he steps up to support his lover. But Bobby lacks trust in Keith and everything around him. Can Keith convince Bobby that this time is for real, or will the two lovers never reconcile?

Bobby loves Keith, but Keith is sharply aware of their fifteen year age difference. The two men met when their respective best friends started dating and sparks flew from the very first second. Neither Keith nor Bobby were looking for anything stable to begin with, but as their “friends with benefits” hook ups became more regular Bobby became more serious. Keith has warned Bobby from the very beginning that their age difference made him nervous, and so the men break up and Bobby is heartbroken.

I found this an interesting story. The pace meanders but focuses fully on the relationship between Bobby and Keith. Apart from the fact this is an M/M I’d actually say this is very similar to many of the older-style romances where the plot *is* the relationship between the two protagonists. I enjoyed how the author spent their time developing the story around the two men. The conversations weren’t rushed and all the scenes/interactions took their time. I’ve honestly become quite used to the quicker pace of action based plots and more modern, faster relationships. So it felt quite the breath of fresh air to find a slower paced book that really fleshed out all the conversations.

At times in the full length story I did wonder if some of the pace might be tightened, but I think that was my personal feelings, I got the impression the author purposely had the slower pace so the reader could more fully appreciate all the complexities that really surround a blossoming romance. I also privately wondered why the age difference between Bobby and Keith was so important, particularly to Keith. Fifteen years isn’t anything to blithely ignore – but it’s also not so incredibly uncommon nowadays either. While this might be something for some readers to consider, I honestly feel that the author meshed this in with the “older style” storytelling quite well. I did enjoy it, but just couldn’t help question whether it was really such a current/modern style of problem – particularly it acted as a big part of the plot and catalyst for much of the conflict. It was a pivotal point to my mind in the book, and I just wasn’t completely sold on it being such a critical issue.

I found the sex to be tenderly written – almost “spicy” as opposed to “erotic”. I had no qualm about this though, as this fit with the slower pace, older style of writing and far more emotional type of story this was to my mind. Emotional and spicy, rather than erotic and over the top. The characters were amazingly written. I loved how they actually started almost as protagonists – each the best friend of a new couple, Zach and Jason, and both Keith and Bobby were looking out for their own best friend and trying to extract information from the other. I found that a fantastic set-up for Keith and Bobby and it drew me right into the story. None of the characters were simple or easily understood – and that made them even more interesting to me. I also really loved how deeply emotional the plot was. In some places I genuinely teared up – at what both Keith and Bobby went through. I felt such a strong connection to the two men that I was deeply invested in both them and their relationship.

A strongly written, deeply emotional read, I found the characters and situations they worked through to be excellently written. While a few snags kept this from being a fantastic read, I really enjoyed it and will happily read it again and would eagerly read more from this author.

We all mature at a different pace but, eventually, everyone (well, almost everyone) gets to the point where they want more than one night stands, random jobs and flitting from one hobby to the next. It may have taken Chad a few extra party years but, one of the things I liked about this book is his growth. From meeting him in the first book of this series, Chad comes off as the player. No plans, no ambition, no commitment. Actually, that word has always been painful to consider, until he meets Owen.

Owen. He tickled me. He’s a little awestruck that someone who looks like Chad and is such an extrovert, almost to the point of being obnoxious (in a mostly adorable way), is coming on to him. He thinks it’s a joke and instead of melting into a puddle, like Chad expects him to, he surprises them both and totally gets in Chad’s space. That was fun to watch. A dumb-struck Chad is not a normal sight.

There’s a sweet and sexy role reversal trope to this little novel. Owen comes out of his turtle shell and Chad becomes a little less Chad and more serious about what he wants for himself and what he wants for him and Owen, if he’ll have him. When these two get together, they redefine “angry sex”. They were so frantic to be the one in control but then when they each figure out that they really click when instead they hand over control, it’s perfect.

I’ve enjoyed this series a lot. Just like books one and two, the story is well plotted out and flows smoothly. The ratio of sweet to sexy is nice and I was cheering for Chad and Owen’s HEA right after their first encounter. This is book that drew me in early and kept my attention to the end.

Trevor Dunn has never gone to the Calgary Stampede, in spite of living in the city all his life. He would much rather listen to music and draw comics in his basement than hang out with a bunch of cowboys. When his sister drags him to the Stampede’s opening parade anyway, Trevor is drawn to a cowboy sporting a green hat.

Charlie opens Trevor’s mind to the world of country music and country boys. But then an old flame appears in the middle of the festival and Trevor is torn. He adores Charlie, but Mathieu—a punk singer turned acoustic crooner—was Trevor’s first love, and Trevor lost him by being too afraid to chase the dreams they shared.

Realizing that’s not what he wants, Trevor enters a mechanical bull-riding contest in hopes of winning the heart of his true love—or maybe both of them. This time, fear won’t stop him from going after what he wants.

A comic book artist is caught between a man from his past and a man in his present. Will there be a future full of love in store for him?

Let’s get the small negative out of the way first. When Trevor and Charlie meet, they smoke some shisha. It’s basically tobacco. Reading how they enjoyed it, well, it read a bit like an old-fashioned tobacco commercial. These days, when people know the dangers of tobacco, glorifying the act didn’t make a positive impact on me. Thankfully the scene is short.

I always hate to say this but… it’s clear this was written by a man. The writing style focuses more on active, physical scenes, like bull riding and straightforward sex, rather than emotional turmoil or constant wavering. In this case, that was done very well, and I didn’t feel deprived of knowledge of the inner workings of these people. And toward the end we get happy mushy stuff, so … I was content.

We’re given insight into the male mind, and into polyamory, how understanding that no one person can be everything to another, and how that way of thinking is fine. We only get Trevor’s third person point of view, and that seems to be a conscious choice by the author, showing us the men in Trevor’s life, making us see them through his eyes. There’s a certain kind of pressure in existing somewhere between childhood and adulthood, being able to live at home but needing to feel useful instead of just waste of space. That’s something most everyone can understand. It’s insights like this, the role Trevor portrayed, that gave the storytelling its edge, I think.

I have to say, this story manages to surprise in many ways. Just when you think you’re hitting the heights of greatness… bam! Something unexpected happens, and a new plot twist steers the story down a different path than anticipated.  I think the reason is because we have a talented author on our hands, someone who is able to breathe life into a situation where three men have complicated feelings for each other, even though society prefers labels and strict categories, no coloring outside the lines.

At times Trevor comes off as a bit of a tabula rasa, and the men in his life—Mathieu and Charlie—fill him up. I don’t mean in a sexual sense. Trevor is the invisible boy behind his glasses. He’s been like that his whole life, and is stuck. Meeting Mathieu gave him a new home in the punk rock scene. Then Trevor meets Charlie who shows him how to be a cowboy. Of sorts. Trevor has no direction in life, just dreams he’s left unfulfilled for lack of trying. When he takes on these other personas, he finds himself—actually chasing his dream of becoming a comic book artist.

The overall positive message of this story made my day. It was nice to see a different kind of relationship depicted in such a life-affirming way. Even if you aren’t a fan of threesomes, I recommend you give this one a try. The last couple of chapters pasted a perma-grin on my face. See if this does the same for you.

Even though they’re a bit strapped for cash, they decide to hold an End Of Summer barbecue for their friends as family. But before they can get that organized, tragedy strikes and their world is turned upside down again.

I really enjoyed this short story. While I have a feeling there might be other books previous to this one, I picked it up easily enough and was able to happily follow the story with no problems. I thoroughly enjoyed the authors tone of voice and found myself quickly invested in Wake and Cody’s relationship and the drama going on in their lives. I liked how normal the author made them both seem. Laundry and long commutes, satisfaction at finally living together and mild concern over their jobs and money situation. I found both men interesting and relatable.

There was not a lot of conflict in the plot, but I was still quite intrigued to read about Cody dealing with the death of his estranged father. It made for a strongly emotional read. There wasn’t much action or intrigue, but the plot was interesting enough to maintain my interest. Family, relationships and all the emotional drama relating to that made for a solid plot and while it hadn’t been what I was expecting I still enjoyed it. I felt some of the resolution was a little pat, but this didn’t detract for me liking either character. The sex was tasteful and nowhere near as explicit as many M/M erotica pieces out there. While definitely sensual and sexy, I found the focus of the story really is centered on the relationships – not the sex. This would be a good book that I’d recommend to friends unsure of the M/M genre as a great introduction. Passion and intimacy but nothing earth-shattering or envelope pushing. Just an easy, romantic story that happens to be about two men.

A quick, interesting read with two great characters I thoroughly enjoyed. A gentle and sensual M/M story that I feel will appeal to a broad range of readers.
