Becker, Sabine and Roane are not your usual family dynamic, and personally I adored them all the more for being a little outside the box. The pace of the story felt a little too fast for me personally. Becker and Roane meet and although I can understand Roane wanting to move fast on his mate after waiting so long it really felt like they just jumped straight into bed, fell instantly in love and it all happened in the blink of an eye. I thought the plot itself (as to why Becker and Sabine had come to Team Paladin) was quite interesting and fresh, but with so much uncertainty and fear it made Becker falling so quickly in love even less realistic to me. How he could leave Sabine with the other Team members mere hours after meeting them—particularly considering the danger he and Sabine were in—just didn’t make sense to me. It seemed silly and risky and I really struggled to understand how Becker could place so much faith in virtual strangers.

After that, I just disconnected my brain, sat back and enjoyed the ride. And to be honest I enjoyed the story an awful lot more once I stopped thinking about what was logical and realistic, and just rolled with it all. Once I’d put my brain in this gear I thoroughly enjoyed the fast, almost maniacally crazy pace and the sequence of events that unfolded. I loved catching up with a number of the other couples from previous stories and seeing how the town itself was going. I also enjoyed how both Roane and Becker’s characters were interesting and Becker in particular had multiple layers to him.

Readers looking for a logical, relatable story might not find this book gives them the sort of read they want. Readers, however, looking for a fast paced, interestingly plotted piece of escapism fiction should definitely give this a try. I enjoyed the plot, liked the characters and found myself at the end happily satisfied with the light read.

Far from falling at Leon’s feet, Steve quite strongly resists the notion that the two are destined mates, and I really enjoyed the novelty in that. My only real disappointment was in how low Steve’s self-confidence was and some of the reasons behind it. I understand this was part of his character and experiences, but it was difficult for me to read just how little Steve thought of himself and how he doubted anything good could possibly happen to him. It took an awful lot of effort on Leon’s part to help bolster Steve even just a bit and while this was fantastic for the plot and character development, it really made my heart bleed for Steve. It made this otherwise fun and sexy story difficult for me to read.

The sex between Steve and Leon was hot and spicily written. Even though their connection and consummation happens quite quickly I liked the emotional bond the two men shared and how it deepened between them as they came to understand each other better. I thought some of the plot (Steve’s ex boyfriend) was a little clichéd, but it did add a fair bit of conflict and drama to the story. The various characters and the pack dynamics was really the highlight of this story for me. I feel the author did a great job of showing a number of different characters and giving them all life, making them individuals and not just cookie-cutter people. I was particularly invested in Steve and Leon, both together as a couple and as individuals.

An interesting and emotional story I found this to be a good paranormal romance.

I found this to be a super hot, really lovely short story. I’ve enjoyed some of the previous Faster Bobcat books in this series but strongly believe this can be read as a stand-alone book. Noah and Toland are front-and-centre of the entire book and aside from a mention of previous characters in the epilogue there’s no back-story or feeling that readers need to catch up on anything. I feel this can definitely be read without any previous experience in the series. I love the author’s style of writing and found myself almost immediately drawn in by Noah’s voice and I was eagerly turning the pages to find out what happened next. I loved how Noah was used to being in control and had never really wanted to bottom but how he felt the desire to explore new things with Toland. This was a slightly different outlook on the “reluctant submissive” style of story I’ve read before and it felt fresh, real and interesting to me.

The only very slight criticism I could put forward was that I didn’t get to see much inside Toland’s head. While I enjoyed his character and definitely felt a connection with Toland, the story is told mostly from Noah’s perspective (third person, which I greatly enjoyed) but this had me feeling like while I understood where Noah was coming from Toland was a little bit more of a mystery to me. The sex was deliciously hot and I thoroughly enjoyed how both men clearly felt a connection with each other from the start. This wasn’t just sex for the sake of it – or fucking added in to make the story steamy – this was two sensual, grown men starting a lovely relationship together and the sex deepened the connection and acted out on the attraction they each felt. There were light elements of BDSM in here – nothing that I found too harsh or envelope pushing, but readers should certainly take note if they like less spice in their romance stories.

A delightfully written and sensual M/M with a hint of BDSM spice that I greatly enjoyed. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

The banter between Butch and Walker is nice to see. The two work hard to make their relationship work. It was nice to see Walker begin to be able to stand on his own in a well-adjusted pack. As we watched Butch and Walker’s story unfold we also got to see the comradery of the wolves in the West River Pack. It was nice to see the friendship and loyalty between everyone. Butch and Walker’s story has just begun, and I cannot wait to see what more is in store for them.

I found this to be an interesting and short paranormal story. Set slightly in the future (after 2023 some time) this felt to me much like a normal contemporary/paranormal story. Aside from shifters being “out” there was not much really to differentiate this from a regular, contemporary setting to my mind. I was interested in some of the dynamics and world-building that the author added in – like a shifter escort company designed to help shifters get through their heat phases – and overall found the plotting and pacing to be really good.

I liked Roarke, Spencer and Grigore’s characters. I was pleased that they all seemed to work well together though a part of me wished the author had let us see a bit more of their personal side, not just their working side. For example, did the men have any hobbies? Did they like to cook, or play a sport, did they have hopes or plans for the future? I liked knowing what Spencer and Roarke in particular were like at work (dedicated and intelligent) but I really felt like there was a lot more to their characters that we didn’t have time to explore. The sex was steamy hot and I loved every moment of it. While they all jumped into bed very quickly I can’t fault the author for that considering the short length to the story. I also was impressed that the balance between plot and sex was kept very even and I felt neither part of the story suffered – both sides being well treated. Some readers mightn’t like that part of the plot was left deliberately hanging and not tied up neatly in a bow, but the romance and threesome was absolutely settled happily and this story was clearly marked as the first in a series, so I wasn’t too upset at the plot not being fully rounded out.

For a sexy paranormal story with a good plot and a fast pace, this is a great story. While I might have preferred a bit more depth to the three characters I felt this was an excellent first book in the series and I’d happily read more by this author.

The men tease and support one another treating each other as equals and are ready to accept Tommy into the fold. Nicholas tries hard to let Tommy grow and go at his own pace but they both know that their attraction will soon bring them closer to love.

Tommy has lived a hard life and tries to be all that he can when he gets the chance. Showing his independence and growth while learning to deal with his emotions and attraction to Nicholas. It was nice to watch these two men find a way to work together towards their happy ever after. Their emotions shine through in everything that they do, and we can see the bond that they share growing deeper the more that they are together.

This is a fast-paced quick read that grabs your attention right from the start and keeps you turning the pages all the way to the end and even then, it has you wondering what will happen next in this world.

Will is a good man and he fights hard for those that he loves, and he sees Matthew as worth fighting for. Will must make a hard choice and figure out just what he wants from life. I enjoyed seeing Will overcome his own problems as he fights for Matthew. Will has learned the hard way who he can trust and who truly cares about him. Now he must prove to Matthew that he can be trusted, and he will not only win in the ring but in the heart as well.

Matthew and Will’s adventure is a roller coaster ride full of emotions. It was nice to see the two men find what they need in each other. The unusualness of their situation had me engaged in their story from the start and kept me engaged all the way to the end.

I found this to be an interesting story. I enjoyed some of the paranormal world-building – as the first in a new series I was glad the author peppered through the story bits and pieces of the werewolf lore and rules which are often difficult to catch in later stories. I also really enjoyed how Abel and Tommy didn’t just glance at each other and fall instantly into bed. Both slightly prickly and with their own problems, the two men spent a bit of time warming up to each other and I loved coming along for that ride.

The sex in this story is hot and intense. There is a very little bit of kinky play (a very light spanking scene and an almost lighter restraints scene). Unless a reader really doesn’t like even the tiniest hint of spice in their sex scenes I feel these scenes won’t be too hard or go too far for pretty much anyone. The elements are very very light (almost too light in my personal opinion) and a part of me wonders if the scenes might have been stronger or hotter without the small hints of kink in them. The emotional intensity between Abel and Tommy was fiercely strong – as was Abel’s dominating wolf – and lightening the tone with a “play” at the kinkier side to their sex actually lessened that intensity in my eyes. I’d have preferred no kink and have that heat and strength of emotional and paranormal intensity kept ratcheted up high. This is just my opinion though and other readers might thoroughly enjoy the naughty edge the spanking gives to the sex.

I found some of the pack politics and scheming quite interesting. I was pleased we were introduced to a number of secondary characters within the pack and saw a few of the different layers. There is clearly – again to my opinion – a number of problems within the pack and I hope to read more about these in the future installments.

With an interesting new paranormal world, strong and interesting characters and a lot of steamy hot sex I feel this is a great start to a new series. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for future stories.

He’s seriously looking forward to taking a summer break with his friend, Caroline at Crystal Coast. The beach – full of shirtless studs – is exactly the sort of therapy he needs to refresh his mind and revitalize himself. Tanner is in the Army and still mostly in the closet – but he can’t deny the strong attraction to Ryan when the two men meet. Can their chemistry turn into something more?

This is a fun, summery and sexy short story. I liked both Tanner and Ryan’s characters and the sex between them was explosively hot. I found the sex to be deliciously explicit. I was a little disappointed, however, with the “conflict” aspect of the plot. A somewhat clichéd misunderstanding, the situation – while completely serious – felt rather like it had been simply inserted into the story as the obligatory argument/conflict aspect to the plot. Add on to this, despite the seriousness of it, barely a few pages was given to Tanner and Ryan discussing it and with what felt to me like no effort or proper discussion it was forgiven and practically waved away. This resolution made the conflict feel even more derived and insubstantial to me. I really felt as though the whole situation could have been handled differently and better.

With a strong cast of secondary characters the absolute high point of this story for me was all the different people. Ryan and Tanner both came across to me as vibrant, complex and interesting characters and each of them had a small number of equally impressive secondary characters in their lives. Add in some very hot and well written sex and this is a fun, summery short story that is sure to appeal to a lot of readers wanting a quick and spicy read.

The Theme’s the Thing ~ Keeping It Blue with @MeganSlayer #writing #themes #authorthemes

When I started writing, I was told I needed a theme. Not just a general idea for what I wanted my author overall image to be, but a theme. I know, sounds confusing, doesn’t it? A very wise friend told me as I was setting out, I needed to have something that said, this is Megan Slayer every time someone saw it. Why’d she question my theme? Because back then I had a picture of racing on my blog. The photo was right at the top and to the right. It totally went with my passion, but had only a little to do with my writing because at the time, I’d only written two stories and neither had racing in them. So I set out to create a theme.

I had a few fits and stalls along the way. I knew what I wanted to write–second chance romance. A lot of authors write that. So what made mine different? Back when I started, the heat level was the thing, too. The hotter the better. But heat levels then and now are totally different. What was HAWT back then is hot now. What was ‘oh-my-gosh-scorching-the-page-gonna-melt-the-screen’ hot is now HAWT. Back then, there was dark erotic romance, but not as prevalent as now. So my initial theme of HAWT second chance romance is still viable, but the heat isn’t as hot as I once thought.

I’m still all about my second chance romance. I’ve always had a soft spot for characters who had a rough start in life or whose initial romance didn’t quite work. I want them to have happy endings. Sometimes it’s with the same people and most of the time with new people. When you pick up one of my stories, there will be a second chance romance in it.

But I’ve got another theme I hadn’t planned on. Pretty much from the start of my career as an author, I’ve had blue hair. Why? I wanted something fun to do with my hair and it covered the grays nicely. Plus…it was fun. Still is, to be honest. It’s been brighter at times and more muted at others, but it’s always been blue. Okay, there was that one patch where I had it red for a while… And you know what? People didn’t like it. They wanted the blue back. Craziness, right? Not really. They identified me with the blue hair. That’s you, they’d tell me. When I think of you, I think of Blue. Pretty nice, eh? I love it.

I had thought about a logo, but I’m not sold on one and how do you make a logo concerning blue or second chance romance? I’m not sure.

But I’ll keep plugging along. I’ll stick with the blue hair and the second chance romances. Why? They make my heart happy. The characters demand their happy ending and I’m not going to argue with them. If people think of me and think blue, then that’s great with me, too. I like to have fun. What about you?
