Moving along, I got some Medieval and Renaissance history. The common thread of money ties the eras together like a fine tapestry, and I was treated to fascinating human happenings along the way. Bits and pieces of other histories are found throughout, such as math, decimals, and even language and the arts.

This is a world history, a trip throughout different countries as well as eras. Every section of this book is engaging, but there are certain highlights one might appreciate, such as the look into American money, its history, and how it’s made. There are many surprising facts to be found such as coin and paper money being less than ten percent of the dollars in existence, and the other dollars are “numbers in a ledger or tiny electronic blips on a computer chip” (124).

There’s discussion of the scientific revolution, the British economy, American Civil War era money, and even how The Wonderful Wizard of Oz had something to say about gold and silver usage. Moving along, I read about credit cards and eventually electronic money. At last, the author leaves the reader with much to think about. This book is about more than money and is well worth the read.

But some people are not as they seem, and Cass finds herself in real trouble. Still, her heart is in the right place, and she’s courageous. Readers will wonder until the end how she will get out of her predicaments and if she will achieve her goals.

Things are a bit rushed, but it’s understandable, given that this story is a novella. It was an enjoyable and quick read with a likable protagonist. The plot is clever. Readers who delight in time travel stories that deal with social realities will probably like this tale.

Will they all die heroes for the greater cause?

Subplots involve relationships, and people must act unselfishly at times. Also, they must be creative problem solvers. This is escapist literature, but it has underlying messages as well and causes one to think about certain things. Their dialogue is revealing. The writing, as in the other books of the series, is descriptive and straightforward. The world-building is exceptional. An atmosphere of falling darkness, of threat, paints a vivid picture and brings out the bold in the characters.

I have read the other three books in this series and was greatly looking forward to this last book. It was not a disappointment.

He must use ingenuity and shows sensitivity when dealing with other characters who can help. The mystical aspects of the book are done creatively and are entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The astral plane is easy to visualize due to the author’s plain-speaking and vivid use of language. The descriptions of that world are detailed. Some of the dialogue could inspire one to crack a smile. In the end, Harley has a unique problem and will need some fancy, unusual maneuvering to save his friends and himself. I have to admit, there’s no sex in the book, but there are graphic details of a man doing self-gratification, solo intimacy. So be warned.

This is a real page turner, but the events at the end of the story have me sincerely hoping there is a sequel coming out for this book. It’s a supernatural adventure and quite enjoyable.

Having read the first two books in the series, this third is my favorite so far, even better than the others. The author has continued an exciting story of a brother and sister in the afterlife dealing with a great evil. We learn more about Sundown and her brother Webb, but this installment is Sundown’s chance to shine. She is a great character and really grows during her time in this story.

Sundown was pulled from a battle in the last book, trying to save her brother, but something went terribly wrong. Sundown woke up…in the past. What happens there is fascinating. She discovers an awesome new talent and more hidden inner strength. She meets with the ruling council but cannot tell them what she knows about the future. Here, she meets younger versions of some of the people she knew in her present (in this afterworld). Readers are treated to the inside scoop of some of those interesting characters. They add a lot to the story, and there are some very touching moments, especially with a new, young character. Different types of relationships are explored in this story, adding depth. There are moments of exquisite happiness and others that are heartbreaking. The good and the bad alike have well-written backstories.

The tension escalates throughout the novel to an explosive end (cliff-hanger). Important people are lost in this book, but underneath this sadness, readers will wonder what actually became of them. Hopefully the next book will answer that important question, as it gives a sense of hope that maybe all is not lost for them.

There are some intriguing turns of fate and paradoxes, and the world-building, like in the previous books, is done by the hand of an artist. The author does a great job revealing things little-by-little while at the same time increasing the suspense of the story. It is clearly written, even with the complications time travel can bring. Symbolism is done well and really paints a picture, adding to the somber mood. Dialogue is realistic. This is a great third part to the series, and I look forward to the conclusion. I recommend this book.

What follows is a series of disturbing events, unworldly happenings. R. L. Jackson does a great job creating a mystical setting and paranormal characters. Readers will really feel the eeriness of it all and shudder when Savannah does.

It’s exceptional to read about how Savannah comes into her own and finds her courage because she is driven by love—really inspiring. When Marshall disappears, she must risk everything to find him. Luckily, she has help from surprising sources. The ticking clock feeling of the story, more supernatural beings, and the unusual town of Bulwark with its own magic are effective in creating a dark and dangerous mood.

The end of the story is unpredictable. There are some open-ended plot lines. Readers of vampire stories with resilient and inspirational female leads will probably like this book, especially if they don’t mind an unsettled finale. A sequel could be written.
