Reviewed by PeppermintHuman/werewolf relations were forbidden. Guy’s father made that clear years ago, but Guy had come very close to disobeying with naïve, teenage Olivia. He’d barely kept his body under control, as he’d held her during her first shocking orgasm. Years later, on edge with anger, grief, and the pull of the moon, Guy knows she’s the last person he needs near him.
Olivia is overcome with humiliation at the mere thought of seeing Guy again, since he’s starred in all of her fantasies over the past several years. She refuses to leave his doorstep, however, until he answers her questions about her missing sister and the dead body found on his property. Problem is, he’s ordering her to leave while blocking the door, telling her to get lost while pinning her between his hard body and the table, saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing while his every touch takes Olivia closer to heaven.
Sometimes forbidden love is worth the risk, but sometimes it leads to revenge and murder.
While human life means little in Guy’s pack, he still finds himself fascinated by Olivia. Olivia on the other hand has less time to worry about the object of her elementary crush. Her sister is missing and Olivia is determined to save her before the sheriff calls her to claim the body.
Olivia’s strength and endurance through the entire story shows how much this author must really enjoy writing strong female roles. No matter if Olivia is confronting a murderer or Guy, she faces them with her chin held high and sass on her lips. Being a strong female myself, I found the story line easy to relate to and entertaining. Many times I even wondered if I would buckle under such pressure myself, but not Olivia. The fact that I can see myself in the character so strongly really speaks volumes about the author’s ability to make me feel as if I were a part of the story.
Guy may be a big bad wolf, but he acts like a puppy dog when it concerns Olivia. His strength is more logical and subtle. Plus his drive to protect those he cares for, even from each other, really showed how much of a strong provider he really was. Guy seemed to be the rock that held the story together. He’s not the typical hero but he has an open invitation to invade my dreams anytime.
The plot in this story was nothing less than amazing. The author really had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. As soon as I thought I might have figured out where the story was going the author added more depth and details that made me question myself. This is one of the reasons I have always preferred longer stories to short stories. I’m a sucker for an excellent plot line with twists and turns that leave me on an emotional roller coaster and I got more than my fill in this story.
I was not sure if this story was part of a series, but while reading I continuously thought to myself how I hoped a few of the secondary characters would get their own stories. Whether it be about Amy, Olivia’s sister, or Will, the sheriff, or even Nootau, Guy’s cousin, they all have a story to tell. It made me research more to see if there would be more stories to come. I discovered there’s a previous story and I most certainly want to read it. Finding that other book also made me think there’s hope for subsequent stories. With the author’s intriguing characters and extraordinary plot line, I will definitely be looking for more.
