Even as he tries to maintain control, Carrie’s life is thrown into danger, forcing Mason to reconcile with the recklessness that’s always lingered under the surface of his calm demeanor.

Mason had never thought he’d return to the Reservation and the desolate community he had grown up in, but after his grandfather died Mason wanted to pay his respects. When the past conflicted with his present Mason finds himself in serious trouble and a moment of recklessness changes his life forever.

This fast-paced short story was full of espionage and mystery. I really enjoyed watching Carrie and Mason connect all the pieces together to figure out what was happening. The relationship between Carrie and Mason was long-standing and intensely sexy, but I enjoyed how even after being solid for so long they still were learning and discovering new things about each other. The sex between them was explosive – but it was all the intrigue and the slick way they worked together to solve the puzzle of what was threatening their company that really had me turning the pages quickly to find out how it all resolves itself.

Readers who enjoy spy/espionage styles of stories should really enjoy this. I love the strength and commitment between Carrie and Mason – I found them really compatible and well-suited on every level. While a lot of the story has Mason and Carrie scrambling to try and piece together who is trying to revenge past sins I enjoyed the fact that this helped Mason and Carrie strengthen their romance and learn even more about each other. Rather than doubting or letting their enemies weaken them they trusted each other fully and that was something I really loved reading.

With plenty of action and romance this was a great short story that I really enjoyed.

When Reggie sets out to continue his mother’s mission to feed the homeless, he never anticipated how much a chance encounter with an injured man, his small, gaunt dog, Roscoe, and sick, young cat, Cinders, would change the course of his life. With a winter storm approaching, Reggie makes a snap decision and brings the wary trio to his estate home to be cared for and nursed back to health.

Reggie learns the man’s name is Calvin, he was a quartermaster in the army, and he was dishonorably discharged prior to the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Taking pity on the man and in need of someone to help him run his mother’s foundation, Reggie offers Calvin a job. With few prospects in sight to find shelter for his small family during the peak of winter, Calvin reluctantly accepts Reggie’s offer on a trial basis, but that it is only one of many trials both men will face.

Eventually, yearnings Reggie and Calvin had buried deep inside begin to fan the nearly extinguished embers of passion in both men. With Calvin drawing emotional support from Roscoe and Cinders, and Reggie discovering an ally in his beloved housekeeper, both men explore their newfound attraction, edging them toward the precipice of an ecstasy neither could have imagined.

Will the discovery of a past connection between the two men’s families be enough to bring them together? Or will sinister, outside forces and an unexpected loss of life shatter the bonds between both families and both men for good?

Reggie Scottsdale is following his mother’s example and helping those that are extremely down on their luck and sleeping on the streets. He noticed a young man with a sign that stated, “I ask not for me, but for them.” On the sign there was a well-drawn picture of a dog’s head and a cat’s head. When he pulled over, he saw a young man with a child’s sleeping bag that was covering a terrier named Roscoe and a little kitten named Cinders. Reggie left, knowing that he had done all that he could do, yet on his way back home he heard his mother’s voice in the back of his head telling him to turn around and take Cretin to a hotel even though he already gave him money.

Yet, when he did go back, he found Cretin laying on the ground with a large bleeding gash on his head, his stuff torn apart and gone, and poor Roscoe and Cinders curled up around him. Reggie knew that there was only one thing that he could do, he gathered all three of them into his car and brought them to a cottage that was on his estate. He made sure that there were vets and doctors were waiting for them. During the cleanup process they learned his true name was Calvin Chadwick.

Calvin is a strong man with a heart of gold who only thought of his pets–or as he calls them that his ‘babies’. The author did a wonderful job of showing how far our army veterans can fall through the cracks as Calvin had been a quartermaster in the Gulf War. He had been able to hold down a few jobs, enough to keep an apartment. Reggie is a man that you can’t help but admire for his self-sacrifice and the ability and want to help those in need.

What brought tears to my eyes is when Reggie finds Calvin’s family. As it turns out his sister Eloise and their mother were living above a bar where she worked along with his brother, Caleb. Reggie was worried about Calvin’s mother’s health as Eloise was vague about it. Poor Calvin was brought to tears and things became intimate when he blurted out how he felt for Reggie. It was sweet when they both opened their scarred hearts and allowed their love and lust overcome them. As it had been a long time for both, it was extra hot. Beware, you might want a fire extinguisher ready! Then a bit of levity when Roscoe and Cinders entered the room and joined them on the bed, and Cinders got to enjoy some caviar. Then a dose of cold water was thrown on the lovely scene.

One of my other favorite moments was while Virginia was yelling at Calvin, Roscoe and Cinders came to his rescue. They ended up jumping on the table making a mess as they slid across the tablecloth and knocking everything over. Roscoe was barking and Cinders was hissing at her, this caused Peabody to pee all over her and making her run from the room.

I absolutely loved this book as it shows how humans can see beyond themselves to help others. Love and devotion given is often repaid twice over. This is a wonderful plot that again shows how our veterans are slipping through the cracks and not getting the support they deserve. We learn that if someone’s given a second chance, they can turn their lives around. I also really enjoyed the connection between Roscoe and Cinders with Calvin, drawing strength from each other. The reader also gets to see how one heart can heal the other after both have been injured from those that they trusted.

There are several other relationships going on at the same time, which allows the characters to lean on each other for support.

The relationship between Cherry Blossom and Makoto is another one that should never happen. Cherry Blossom is also a male servant. As class and station mean everything, a man with no station could not have a relationship with the captain of the prince’s guard. Yet when Cherry Blossom is injured in the attack against the prince, Makoto decides that nothing else matters.

I adored this story for all the different love interests, and how people are affected by their station in life. I also love anything paranormal and found all the different parts interesting and well done. The author keeps the flow of the story smooth and each character keeps in character. I could tell you more, but you’ll have to read it for yourself. Give this book a try.

When school and a connection to cooking force Merci into Mac’s classes, his kitchen, and his life, the two seemingly polar opposites attract on a level much more real than either of their reputations.

Everyone has secrets.

The character development of Mac and Merci was incredibly well done. Both protagonists felt three dimensional to me. I cheered for them when they found success, shook my head when they made mistakes, and crossed my fingers when they struggled with things they didn’t understand the first time around. It was easy to become emotionally invested in them. Merci was a genuine sweetheart, and Mac’s hilariously snarky attitude soon revealed a kinder side to him that I desperately wished he’d feel safe enough to share with the world more often.

There were some awesome plot twists in this book. Some of them caught me by total surprise, and even the ones I had inklings about ahead of time were still a great deal of fun to see play out. I appreciated the way the author played around with the audience’s expectations of what would happen next, especially when it came to the assumptions some of us made about what the characters would or wouldn’t do. It only made their journeys even more interesting as the plot showed us what actually happened and which parts of their lives they tried to keep hidden from other people.

One of the other things I deeply enjoyed about this tale had to do with how the romance was handled. Mac and Merci were given plenty of time to get to know each other and to grow as human beings before the slightest hint of romance showed up in the storyline. That was the perfect way to handle a budding relationship between two people who didn’t appear to have much in common or like each other much at all in the beginning.

I can’t recommend Perfect’s Overrated highly enough. It was lovely!

A Blind Woman and an Alpha Capo.  Belle and Diego. This was an unlikely couple.

Belle is blind but loves being independent. Nevertheless, when it came to her friends it was different. Being blind means she would need help walking in places she is not familiar with. When friends ask to go to a club that she is not familiar with she said yes. That club is where she met Diego.

Belle is sweet and giving. The opposite of Diego who is an alpha to the core, until it came to his marriage it seems. He was a big bad mafia capo until it came to the heroine. What made me read this twice was because their talks were normal. Really normal. With little chemistry. I think it was curiosity that made him stop and talk to her. Their relationship developed slowly over time and I loved reading that. However, it was annoying me a lot when he kept lying and lying. I kept waiting for him to break the engagement from the other woman.

His Secret Sin was exactly what it said. Belle was his secret until she was not. That brought hell into their world.

This story is about a relationship between a crime boss/capo and a regular woman, and it’s enjoyable since their relationship went through highs and lows. At the end, they come out better than before. The book is a good read for those who want something a bit different.

Fauxmances aren’t a trope I have much experience with at all, so I was pretty curious to see how Ms. Snow handled it. It was fun to see how both of the main characters reacted to the idea of them pretending to be in a relationship. The concept of it was explained clearly to the audience, and the characters leapt into their charade without any delay. The more I read, the more I wanted to know about what would happen to everyone next.

It would have been nice to have more details in this story in general. The two protagonists went to a lot of trouble to fake their relationship, but both of them tended to brush off in-depth descriptions of how their plan would work. This pattern repeated itself a few other times in the plot, so it was something I thought was worth mentioning. I sure would have liked it if the author had drilled down a little deeper to explain what was going on and how her characters were reacting to it.

The dialogue was witty and well written. There were a couple of times when I laughed out loud while I was reading because I wasn’t expecting certain characters to say such clever things. It was delightful to be surprised like that. It made it hard to put this tale down.

This the third installment of a series, but it can be read as a standalone work.

A Faux Fauxmance should be read by anyone who loves the fauxmance trope.

This is a well-written novella with enough world-building to keep me happy. The characters are well-developed. With both steam and wit, I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

I’ve read some dark mafia books. There’s always the element of darkness and perceived power over the weak. Sam Crescent doesn’t deviate from that formula but still put out a unique and intriguing story. I read a excerpt from the book before deciding to request it for review. I couldn’t imagine how the story could begin with so much anger and deception and end with a true and realistic HEA for Marcus and Laura. I knew I had to read it.

The author gives the reader chronological glimpses into the past. Brief episodes where Marcus and Laura cross paths and the outcome. It was very revealing as the present day story was told. Who Marcus was and how he became the man who forced Laura down the aisle, who constantly reminded her that she was his property, who swore that he would do his duty to the family. But it also showed me that Marcus was and would be protective of Laura, even love her in his own way.

The author gave me hope for Marcus and Laura in little ways that I truly appreciated. This was a quick read and one that I didn’t put down until finished. Readers who look for dark redemption will appreciate this one.

But after eight non-orgasmic interludes she knew something needed changing up to get her back on her game. For years she’d used quick sex and fleeting orgasms to run from her past pain and family’s betrayal. Much as Jill was loathe to admit it, maybe it was time for her to allow a man access to more than just her panties?

I found this to be an interesting and steamy read. I was pleased that there was a lot more complexity and depth to Jill than just a burned woman seeking gratification in an endless stream of men. Under her blasé attitude and string of conquests she was relatable and vulnerable – both characteristics which I could understand and appreciate. Kyle, was also more than just a shy nerd feeling slightly depressed and quite lonely in a new town. I enjoyed watching these two characters circle each other and try to work out what, exactly, lay between them.

It was delightfully refreshing to me how Kyle, initially at least, simply wanted friendship with Jill. I was amused how much this perplexed her – it was completely different from most of her previous experience and totally threw her for a loop. But while Kyle could feel attraction to Jill, he still mourned the death of his wife and I found it just wonderful how for a change it was the hero who needed time and space to sort his feelings out and come around to an intimate relationship. I thought this change-up in the usual stereotypes, as well as the balance between building a proper, romantic relationship and keeping the sensuality simmering between Kyle and Jill was handled really well by the author.

Sexy and romantic, this story checked a lot of the boxes for me and I really found myself interested and invested in Kyle and Jill’s relationship. The conflict aspect of the story was quite clichéd (I could see it coming from a mile off) and while it was understandable and realistic a part of me felt let down that it was so predictable. I was extremely relieved that this misunderstanding was put right very quickly and even to a degree helped Kyle and Jill deepen their relationship. The slower pace of the growing relationship between Jill and Kyle, their characters and complexities were all really well written and quite refreshing to me. The sex, when it finally came, was scorching hot and the perfect level of naughty.

With an interesting and slightly different style of plot and two really relatable and intriguing characters overall I found this short story to be a great read. Recommended.
