The only thing better than riding a cowboy is submitting to one.

On her own for the first time, Skylar Wedgeworth has no idea what to do about it. She’s torn between behaving like the hard-working mom she’s dedicated her life to being…and embracing her fascination with the erotic world of lust and submission she has long put second.

That’s where The Ranch comes in. And with it, Caleb Cash.

The injury that cut short Caleb’s pitching career just before he joined the majors, then his wife walking out on him have made Caleb question everything about himself, and he hasn’t had a partner since.

Until Skylar.

There’s no denying the heat between them when Skylar checks into the erotic lifestyle club Caleb and his six best friends opened in the Montana mountains, but for things to go further than their physical connection, Skylar has to learn how to put herself first and Caleb must be willing to trust a new partner with his heart…

Home Run Cowboy is an endearing and passionate story about two people who have given up on finding love. The plot immediately drew me in and I was transported to The Ranch, where all your erotic dreams can come true. I enjoyed the heat shared between Caleb and Skylar and found it easy to relate to them. They are both down to earth, good people who have been hurt in the past. They are vulnerable, but somehow are able to open their hearts up again. I was invested in their story and wanted everything to work out for them.

Caleb and Skylar meet when Skylar decides to visit The Ranch, owned by Caleb and his friends. Caleb and Skylar are taken by surprise by the instant attraction flowing between them. Unfortunately, they know their relationship can’t last because Skylar lives on the other side of the country. Caleb is also concerned about some unscrupulous people who are trying to force him to sell his land. This adds drama and intrigue to the story, as Caleb tries to discover who is trying to buy up all the property in the area.

What I enjoyed most about this story were the characters. I was invested in them and wanted them to find their HEA. Caleb is a moody cowboy who lost his baseball career when he was injured. Skylar is also feeling discontented with her life. She is a submissive and now that her daughter has gone off to college, she wants to explore this side of herself.

Caleb and Skylar lead full lives, but don’t have anyone they can share it with. Plus, they have particular needs and not everyone understands or has the same interests.

When Caleb and Skylar meet they find it easy to open up to each other and everything just seems to click. If you enjoy hot and spicy stories, be sure to read Home Run Cowboy.

When Terra Oenning and Griffin Dunne were paid in a Department of Homeland Security Op, neither of them expected the heat that exploded between them like the cabin they were surveilling. Personal relationships have no place in their lives. Ever. Period. That’s it. Except the night the cabin blows up so does their restraint, the sex between them so hot it sets fire to the sheets.

When the trail they are following takes them to the frozen north of Maine, even that isn’t enough to cool them down, but like experienced DHS agents, they never take their eyes off their assignment. Terrorists, computer hackers and the Croatian Mafia are combining to destroy the United States and Terra and must focus on destroying them. No problem. Despite the addictive, off-the-charts sex, they are trained agents who do their job, surveilling key players and helping to set up the takedown.

But when it goes awry and Terra is caught in the crosshairs, it will be up to Griffin to rescue her, a wake-up call for both of them that maybe, just maybe, what they have between them is real.

I stayed up until 1 a.m. to finish this book in one sitting. I was not going to bed until I knew the outcome. If I had known that I wasn’t going to be able to put it down then I would have started the book earlier in the day. Oy vey, I’m so tired this morning. Happy Mother’s Day to me, lol. If only reading a good book late into the night was my only problem, then my life would be golden. Ha, ha.

First off let me point out that there are plenty of warnings that this is actually an erotic book. It says so in the synopsis when you read “the sex between them so hot it sets fire to the sheets”. It’s on the cover of the book “Hot sex and terrorists lead to a combustible situation.” I typically don’t read books of this level of chemistry but I knew going in that it was going to be eye opening, to politely put it. I still chose to read it because I loved the last Desiree Holt book I read and I felt in the mood to read something suspenseful with a bit of mystery.

Desiree Holt didn’t disappoint my craving for something to put me on the edge of my seat. I will say that the writing style for this book was quite different from the previous book I read by Desiree Holt, “Unexpected Risk”. I mention that because “Protecting Terra” had several repetitions, almost to the “head banging point”. I didn’t need to be reminded of his Navy Seal training and discipline as much as I was. Also, the terrorists’ possible intentions and actual intentions were repeated several times. It became a bit redundant. Fortunately, the plot twists had me bumping past those hiccups.

Protecting Terra is the fifth book in the series, “Special Forces: Operation Alpha” yet it can be read as a standalone. I have not read any of the previous books in this series but I’m tempted to read them now.

The synopsis pretty much sums up the book so if you are intrigued as I was then I do recommend picking up a copy. The heroine, Terra Oenning, is a typical trained agent paired up with Griffin Dunne, a typical Navy Seal, where they use their skills to save the day while opening up their hearts to one another. What wasn’t typical was the terrorists’ plot. I appreciated the element of surprise when the takedown went awry.

The setting for Protecting Terra led them to Maine during the winter season on a ski slope. I enjoyed that element since I grew up in New England and skied in Maine. Here is a funny share: When I first read the author’s name, Desiree Holt, I thought it said “Desire Hot”. Very appropriate mistake on my part. Anywhoo, Protecting Terra was a fun, fast and furious read.

In 1747 France, the Duke of Givenchy, Philippe Paramour was a man of power and position. Philippe’s noble title gave him liberation of his most secret yearnings of debauchery. The Duke’s favorite past-time was taking female peasants under his wing as lovers and traveling companions across the French countryside. Anna’s sentence at times, would have been intolerable to a lesser woman of her immature age. But, what she gained under the strict tutelage of Philippe was the skills of maturity and demure sophistication. This is “The Sentence Of Anna”.

A firm hand awaits…

Author A.H. Scott, in the flurried pace of 37 pages, has embodied the essence of the original Harlequin romance. Anna, the alluring mistress of married Nobleman Philippe Paramour, excels and finds utmost pleasure in her job of keeping the Duke of Givenchy satisfied. But when they visit one of Philippe’s oldest friends Valery Terrance at his family’s stables, Anna finds that there are perhaps other ways to meet the desires of herself and the Duke.

The heat of this story is palpable even through the first lines, and the fiery tension between all three characters does not go unnoticed. Visually, the story leaves nothing left to the imagination for us or for the characters. Exploration of deeper desires is what fuels this quick-paced novel, and keeps the pages turning with each new discovery.

The great use of alliteration does hint towards that style of vintage Harlequin romance, but at times tips over the edge of visually stimulating, to corny. However, this does tone itself down as the story gets rolling towards its penultimate climax. The characters are very sexually explorative, giving the readers many exciting scenarios to venture through, and the spice level is through the roof!

The Sentence of Anna is the perfect, travel sized story for a quick zing of heat to make your heart flutter! I would gladly read other tales of Anna’s travels with the Duke, and perhaps other encounters with Valery Terrance. The steam that these three bring to the stables is not for the faint of heart!

Lord January is at the top of the charts, only comes out at night, and is usually covered in blood. Say what you will, but the man knows how to put on a great show. But when the Vampire King is let out of rehab, the last thing he expects is someone forcing him to eat real food, hang out in the sun, and generally be a human being.

Rye Sommers, the best bodyguard in the business, has been hired to babysit a rock star whose biggest threat surprisingly isn’t all the hard drugs, desperate groupies, and crazy fans—it’s Lord January himself. But the closer Rye gets, the more LJ turns into sweet, gentle, caring Jeff Smart. He may still be the super-skinny, pierced and inked genius Lord January, but he is slowly shaking his death wish as he sheds the loneliness and exhaustion his stage persona saddled him with.

But as Rye falls in love with the real Jeff, he finds himself in over his head. He knows he can keep Lord January away from the drugs and the groupies, but saving Jeff might force Jeff to choose between his career as Lord January and his very life.

I found this to be a surprisingly sweet and emotional read. While the cover and blurb had me thinking this might be an edgy or even slightly futuristic style of story what I actually found when reading it was a lovely bodyguard/musician romance story. I adored the pacing – finding the longer length of the story really allowed the author to do a slow drop when it came to the romance between Jeff and Rye.

I also thought that while the blurb was a little confusing at the distinction between the on-stage persona of “Lord January, Vampire King” and the actual real-life person of Jeff, this was exceptionally detailed and quite logically displayed within the story itself. Indeed, if there are any readers (like me, for example) who have held off purchasing this book mainly because the cover and blurb didn’t especially appeal to them I’d recommend them giving this book a try.

I really enjoyed the interaction between Rye and Jeff. Unlike a lot of bodyguard stories there wasn’t some instant sizzle and them jumping into bed together and throwing caution to the wind. Nor was there some long-buried history between the two and so they just “had” to act on their feelings and the danger of the situation be ignored. Instead I found this to be a lovely slow burn and a well paced romance. As the bodyguard Rye slowly learns more about Jeff and his situation, the trappings of the celebrity persona of Lord January and all the other small factors that fit together to form someone’s life. And while sure, as Rye learns more about Jeff and Jeff learns he can trust Rye absolutely, they each begin to fall in love it’s clear that their emotional connection, the trust blooming between them and the respect and friendship were all factors grown first and the whole relationship was not just emotional but realistic and logical as well.

Readers looking for a kinky, edgy or hard and explicit read probably will leave this story not fully satisfied in my opinion. While there is definitely explicit intercourse scenes, unlike a lot of Sean Michael’s work it’s not first and foremost here and neither is it overly edgy or hard core (ie BDSM). Like many of this authors other books, this one focuses primarily on the relationship, the emotional connection and the situation as a whole and I really loved this. There are a number of secondary characters who I found were well drawn and interesting – but not as prominent as you’d find in other stories. While I felt they really added to the story they were absolutely supportive characters and not given equal time or attention as Rye/Jeff. This definitely read as a single, stand alone story to my mind and that’s reflected in while the secondary characters were interesting and well written they weren’t prominent enough for me to want to learn their stories now as well.

With a lovely slow drop into love, an interesting and well written bodyguard/musician style of plotting and the strong emotional and romantic connection realistic and lovely to read this was a great read and one I will definitely enjoy again in the future. Recommended.

But can they make a real home together, or will everything fall apart as they both try to keep up with all their responsibilities, and face a life or death situation for all of them?

I really enjoyed this full-length romance. Readers looking for a long, slow drop from strangers to friends to family to lovers should find this a delicious and well paced romance. I really enjoyed both Trace and Brent’s characters, finding them well written, realistic and best of all not perfect. Brent has a very slight temper when things get frayed and he can snap (like everyone alive I know) and isn’t afraid to own up to it and apologise quickly and honestly. I was particularly pleased that while the chemistry and attraction between the two men was present pretty much from their first meeting the pace of the story really gave them a lot of time to setting into a routine first, get to know each other and find their rhythm before they (much later into the book) acted on their feelings. No insta-lust here and no jumping into bed the moment the kids went to sleep. It was really clear the kids and their slowly meshing family was front and center and the main focus of both men. I really liked that.

There is also an excellent cast of very strongly written secondary characters, from Curly and the other ranch hands to a few other members of the small country town this book was full of lovely characters and wasn’t simply focused on Trace, Brent and their kids. That helped give the story as a whole a really well rounded feel to me and made it seem so much richer and deeper than just two men struggling against the odds and finding love.

While certainly a cowboy story I found this to be strongly emotional and in its own cowboy way really romantic. Readers who enjoy a small-town feel and slower paced, more deeply written romances should definitely give this a try. I’ve not read a lot by this author but I was really impressed and found the story gripping and really emotional and addictive. I definitely plan to look at her other titles and cherry pick a few more for my to-read pile.

Romantic, well paced and with vivid and the style of characters that stick with you, this realistic and really loving story was an excellent find and a story I’m sure I’ll read again in the future.

Their relationship was perfect except for that one missing piece and while neither of them knew exactly what it was, neither were they in any doubt when they happened by chance across Iris. Iris, a tiger shifter and a switch – enjoying both being Dominant and submissive – had struggled to form any real connection since most men didn’t know how to handle her two opposing needs. Can these three shifters merge their lives and relationships together so they all can get what they truly need?

I really enjoyed the different dynamic this story offered. While erotic threesome/ménage stories are pretty common nowadays, and shifter romances aren’t very new either, I haven’t read many ménage plotlines where one of the threesome is a proper switch. I felt that, coupled with the MMF relationship makeup – and the fact the two men were already in a long-standing, stable and BDSM style of relationship – this really helped make this story seem fresher and somewhat new to me.

I was somewhat nervous and how Iris would fit in with the dynamic already long-held and working well between Riker and Jared, but the author did a really good job handling that I felt. Jared was certainly submissive, but he wasn’t shy or uncommunicative on his feeling nor his thoughts. I definitely felt this helped ease some of the transition and smoothed some of the bumps those initial few conversations could have had between Riker and Iris. Jared was an excellent sounding board for both of them and I feel his character really was in many ways the glue that helped form their bond and keep any assumptions or miscommunications get out of control.

The three of them all had to walk a careful line to begin with and I thought this was handled quite well and somewhat believably. A part of me feels Iris in particular came around just a little too quickly, much of the start of the story was filled with her resisting and convincing herself that she could never really submit even though she wanted to, so to have her give in and be comfortable and happy after only a few meetings and discussions just felt a little too simple. The short length of the story though and the fact a part of her wanted to submit helped make this a little more believable but I’m not sure all readers will feel this way. The sex was deliciously hot and should really satisfy most erotica readers with a bit of BDSM heat but nothing too over the top.

Sexy and fun this short story is a great shifter, ménage, BDSM story I feel many readers should enjoy.
