A Touch of Death is a very short witch story. I loved how the characters were manipulated. It was very surprising. But I do felt like that the back-story was incomplete. Yes, it was a short story but I felt very surprised when it finished. It finished too early in my opinion. Though I do feel like I would read the second book just to find out how it all turns out. It was a very captivatingly written. The ending was what captured my attention most. It really set the stage for the next book in the series.

Readers looking for a paranormal quickie that is interesting a good intro into a possibly exciting series should check this one out.

One of the things I enjoy the most about ghost stories is exploring what it was that caused the deceased to become trapped between this life and the next one. After all, most people don’t stick around to haunt the places they knew well when they were alive! It’s hard to discuss Leah’s reasons for haunting her old home without wandering into spoiler territory, but I was deeply satisfied with how that part of her past was explained. It worked well for her personality and history.

It would have been nice to see more of a difference between Melanie and Leah’s use of the English language. Despite growing up and living hundreds of years apart, their vocabularies and speaking styles were incredibly similar. I was a little confused about why this might be the case and briefly wondered if it was a clue of some sort or if their voices should have been more distinct.

Blending so many different genres into one short tale isn’t an easy task, but Ms. Torry did a good job mixing them all together. The romantic and science fiction elements were slightly stronger than the mystery ones. It wouldn’t have been the same without all three of them, though, so this is something that I think will appeal to anyone who enjoys any or all of them.

I’d recommend To Have or To Haunt to anyone who is interested in dipping their toes into a new genre. It covers so many of them that it’s an easy place to try something new.

It’s hard to hide the truth forever.

Imagine experiencing desire while having no clue at all if you’ve ever acted on those feelings. Mary Ann’s amnesia is the first thing the reader learns about her, but I didn’t think about all of the repercussion of having no memories of her previous life until she began showing how it was affecting her. There was something about her longing to remember that struck a chord with me. I was intrigued by the new life she’d built. At the same time, though, I really hoped she’d at least get a few clues about her identity. She was so likeable that I couldn’t imagine what it would be like for her to never get find answers she sought.

I definitely didn’t anticipate the plot twist that Ms. Rosewarne had up her sleeve. It worked well with everything that was established early on, but the execution of it was a little abrupt. There was simply so much going on in that section that it would have worked better for me if this had been a novella instead of a short story. Another 20 or 30 pages would have provided enough space to explore everything that was only hinted at in this version. Had those fascinating nooks been given more time to affect Mary Ann’s reality, I would have easily chosen a much higher rating for this tale.

The only thing more fascinating to me than Mary Ann’s blank page of a past were all of the descriptions of what it’s like to work for the White Rabbit. It’s hard to picture two characters with personalities more diametrically opposed than these ones. What surprised me about their business relationship, though, was how they accounted for each other’s weaknesses. They were actually a very good team!

Follow the White Rabbit was a peek into the adult side of Wonderland. It’s a good choice for anyone who’d like to revisit this universe as a grownup.

Rachel was a fascinating protagonist. Her personality was sketched out quickly, yet it provided enough details about who she is as an individual to keep me interested. She appeared to have many more secrets than she was willing to reveal. As this is the first book in a new series, I will be curious to see if she changes her mind about this in the future.

The romantic subplot happened far too quickly. It wasn’t easy for me to understand why the characters involved in it were happy with this new development in their lives due to how their relationship was described in their introduction. I’m not opposed to seeing sparks between two people who strongly dislike one another, but these cases I do prefer to see some pretty strong arguments made for why they would make a good couple. It’s hard for me to imagine being in a relationship with someone that I couldn’t also see as a close friend.

There’s something melancholy about old, abandoned buildings. They’ve seen so many things, not all of which must have been good. This is even more true when the building in question is an asylum where people suffered horrible fates. It’s the kind of setting that grabs my attention immediately, and I was pleased with how much time the author spent describing what it looked like and why it was so haunted.

I’d recommend Asylum: Ghost Echoes Book 1 to anyone who likes spooky ghost stories.

Jumping into this tale sort of felt like waking up from an incredibly vivid dream. At times I wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, but I was curious to keep reading so I could fit all of the pieces together. Eventually they all snapped together in ways that I didn’t necessarily anticipate ahead of time. It all did made sense, though, especially once I began to approach it in the same way I would a memorable dream. Enjoying this sort of thing is easy when one waits for the answers to reveal themselves.

The narrator relied on telling the reader what was happening instead of showing it to us. It made me feel as though I was hearing a thirdhand account of a really exciting adventure instead of experiencing it myself. Had I felt drawn into the action, I would have easily chosen a much higher rating than the one I ended up giving to this book.

I definitely wasn’t expecting the romantic elements of this story to play as prominent a role in Alice’s new life as they did, although the chemistry between her and her love interest was strong. This subplot also blended in well with the science fiction and fantasy themes. The conclusion wouldn’t have been the same without this addition to it.

Descending Into Madness was a wild ride. Give it a try if you like being kept on your toes!

This was my first introduction to Ms. Lewis’ playful writing style. Based on how much I enjoyed it, I will be keeping an eye out for what she comes up with next. She appears to be quite comfortable using her vivid imagination for the science fiction and fantasy genres.

What didn’t make sense to me was the romance. The characters involved in it were fascinating as individuals, but they had many more reasons to distrust one another than they did to feel any sort of mutual attraction. I would have preferred to see them solve their problems without this subplot. It might have worked well in a sequel, but it wasn’t necessary for this story.

This world is filled with mysterious creatures. Many of them have already been described in the original version. It was amusing to see them again, especially the ones that I’d nearly forgotten reading about. While readers don’t need to have any previous knowledge of this universe, those of us who do remember the lesser-known parts of it will get a few extra chuckles out of this tale.

The Vanishing is a good choice for anyone who has ever wished they could really visit Wonderland.

Soon, gifts begin to arrive for Marcia, not from the duke, but a man just identifying himself as her admirer. At a ball, the mystery man finally approaches her, but in a way that she can’t clearly see him. However, she can feel him, and his kisses. More gifts arrive, and more secret encounters occur. Marcia is smitten by her secret admirer, though she has yet to actually see his face. Eventually, she meets her fiance, who appears just as arrogant and condescending as she imagined. He takes his time strolling across the floor to meet her, and shows no particular regard, acting almost bored, and very highbrow. How can she possibly wed this man when she is falling in love with another? I found myself not liking him overly much.

Marcia has a choice to make. Her mystery man has offered to whisk her away before her wedding. She’s found her heart’s desire, but how can she live with ruining her parents’ hopes? I give Marcia credit for recognizing the damage jilting a duke will do to her reputation. She’s kind enough to care about how this would affect her parents. The mystery man has been clever enough to appeal to Marcia’s desire for adventure, as well as to her emotions.

I enjoyed this quick and delightful read. Though short, the story was detailed enough to let me get to know the heroine, and feel her anguish over duty versus romance. And though a mystery, the Admirer was very appealing. He also made me wonder just exactly what it was he was hiding. The twist at the end leads to a satisfactory happy ever after, and I guarantee it will leave you smiling.

Em Petrova is a new to me author and I will be on the look out for more from her.  Silk is a short read, no cliffhangers or sudden drops.  The concept of the story –wife gets to have her cake and eat it, too–it didn’t bother me, but it seemed like that was something that should have been addressed before the wedding. As most of us knows, communication works wonders.

All three characters, AJ, Jake and Wynne had emotions all over the place that they will need to get in touch with if only to keep from going crazy. You can tell from onset that Wynne still had feelings for her ex; AJ was her partner/lover for awhile. I can see the difference in both men, where Jake is more grounded and AJ is off the charts. In AJ’s defense…maybe Wynne and Jake are what he will need to settle his feelings. Wynne and AJ showed submissive tendencies a bit and Jake pushed out his Dom side a little. All the emotions and feelings flying around, and at the end will come to the middle. Jake I think showed a lot of understanding even in the real world not sure how many husbands would have been so accepting. We can’t give Jake a medal for wonderful husband though, he had some of his own fantasies running through his head.

All in all even with the lack of communication at the beginning it rounded out to be a interesting and believable story. The passion.. imagine more than one sets of hands on you? Passion…. imagine feeding your voyeur side and watching, or being watched… Silk was a good introduction to Ms. Peterova’s work.

Mr. Nostromo is quite skilled at creating a richly detailed setting within the span of a few sentences. His ability to whip up such immersive backgrounds made this short story feel like it was part of a much longer piece. All of the most important plot threads were tied up satisfactorily, but there is definitely room here for a sequel if the author is interested in writing one! I don’t know if he has any plans to do so, but I hope he will consider it.

The perspective of this short story alternates between Jane and Miranda’s point of view. In the beginning I had some trouble figuring out who was speaking each time the perspective shifted because their names were used much less frequently than terms like she or her. Until I adjusted to the rhythm of the plot I found it a little confusing.

The chemistry between Miranda and Jane was sizzling from their very first meeting. How and when that took place was a little surprising to this reader, but it made perfect sense given everything else that is going on in the plot. My favorite scenes in this tale involve how these characters speak to one another. They seem to be on the same wavelength before either one of them even knew the other one existed.

As Dreams Are Made On is a delicious romp that begs to be reread. It’s a good choice for anyone in the mood for something lighthearted and futuristic.

When Holly’s store is broken into, Jackson’s work as the local sheriff bring them back together again. And soon he’s certain these aren’t fleeting feelings that will pass quickly.

This is a warm hearted story about a man trying to move on past the loss of his wife, but uncertain about how to do so. Holly is a caring and gentle woman, and the reader is left in no doubt how well they’d work together. I think the slow, uncertain progression of their romance is sure to suit many tastes. I was a little disappointed by how Jackson was initially unwilling to act on his feelings for Holly. While I understand the passing of his wife was devastating, it certainly seemed time for him to move on, and quashing his feelings for Holly didn’t seem sensible when Jackson was otherwise a level-headed, logical man. I also wasn’t a fan of how Jackson ran hot then cold, wanting to date Holly and be with her one minute then talking himself out of it the next. While I understand his misgivings I didn’t enjoy the uncertainty (and lack of self-awareness) this showed in Jackson, who was a solid, reliable, logical man in all other respects.

This indecision in Jackson also made me feel a little as if the plotline of Holly being threatened by her ex-lover, Derrick, was forced, or a tool to make Jackson protective and get closer to Holly. Personally, I’d have enjoyed Derrick’s plot a lot more if Jackson and Holly were simply taking the progress of their relationship slowly (and not denying their attraction) and Derrick sped things along for them. Seeing Derrick as a reason to force Jackson into taking action made the whole plot feel a bit clichéd for me, and that was sad because there was a lot of other really good points I enjoyed in this book.

The characters are wonderfully vibrant and I enjoyed Holly and her determination to make her new life and shop work. I also enjoyed Jackson, and found his attachment to his friends and mother quite endearing. Readers interested in a slower-moving romance, and one filled with a small town filled with interesting characters should really enjoy this story. There is one sexy scene toward the end of the book. While it is descriptive, I didn’t find it overly explicit. The bedroom door is partially open though. I’d recommend this book to close friends – but not necessarily my mother or granny. I enjoyed the extra bit of spice between Holly and Jackson, but readers wanting a sweeter romance might want to keep this in mind when selecting this book.

A fun and warm-hearted romance, this is book has a small-town feel. There were characters I could enjoy and a straight forward plot one always appreciates in a comfort read.
