This week I am talking about books set in the past. Specifically, these are pieces of historical fiction I’d like to read someday!
1. World Without End (Kingsbridge, #2) by Ken Follett
2. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
3. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
4. The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
5. Nefertiti by Michelle Moran
6. Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
7. The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell
8. The Kitchen Boy: A Novel of the Last Tsar by Robert Alexander
9. Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian
10. Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
If you like historical fiction, what are some of your favorite stories in that genre?
I’ll have to check out these recommendations as the only one that is familiar is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
I hope you like them.
‘Guernsey’ is one I should have included! That one is one of my favorites.
Such a good book, and one I should someday re-read too.
May you enjoy your reread!
I haven’t heard of any such of these but will be sure to check them out , great post
Thank you.
I’ve only read Dust Child from your list.
Cool.
Guernsey is wonderful – so is the film. I haven’t read any of the others! It’s so interesting to see the variety on everyone’s lists.
Agreed!
And, yeah, there’s been a fantastic variety of answers this week.
I haven’t read any of these yet, but they sound very interesting. Happy Tuesday!
Thank you. Happy Tuesday!
Kitchen Boy sounds interesting! I’m reading a book called the Last Tsar now – it’s about the fall of the Romanovs.
Oh, cool! The fall of the Romanovs was such a sad chapter of history.
So many great settings!
Thank you.
World Without End made someone else’s list this week. Fever 1793 sounds fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome. It’s so someone else mentioned World Without End, too.
Fab list! I didn’t enjoy The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society book, but I loved the film!
I’ll have to check out the film.

Such a wonderful and heart-warming book.
It sure is!
#3 is a favorite of mine! I can definitely recommend that one. And thanks for commenting on my blog earlier.
You’re welcome.
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob… was so LONG it was mind-numbing. Yet I did love the writing so much. How can that be? Do you think it needed to be edited down, too?
Yes, I did! It was a bit too long.
I really liked The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer – I even enjoyed the movie.
Wasn’t it good?
I haven’t read any of these, but I have to read World Without End! I read the first book and loved it.
Oh, cool!
What a great list! I loved Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It was my first Lisa See book and remains a favorite. The Kitchen Boy was so good! And I really enjoyed Nefertiti too. I haven’t thought of that book in awhile. Someday I hope to read The House of Spirits and Skeletons at the Feast. I am not familiar with Fever 1793 , but I have read some of the author’s other work. I will have to look for that one!
I hope you like it!
I read The Guernsey Society some time ago and don’t remember much but I think I liked it! I also have Snow Flower on my TBR and really want to read it soon.
I hope it’s a good read for you!
I think I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society around the time the movie adaption came out? I don’t remember much, but I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it! XD
Nice.
Fever 1793 is such a good book! I also really loved The Kitchen Boy! Great list!
Thank you. I’m glad you think so.
