Maiya clawed her way out of her dysfunctional, trailer-park childhood to earn a college degree and establish a promising career. Her future dreams are big, bright and packed with full-throttle fun, but when it comes to matters of the heart and men—especially stuffy corporate types like Ryan—her past slams on the emotional brakes.
In the office and in the bedroom, Maiya and Ryan rub each other in all the right ways. Though Maiya is everything Ryan didn’t know he wanted, he’s got his work cut out for him convincing her she’s worthy of love—or the bright light she’s brought to his life could slip through his fingers.
This book was a wonderful surprise! I chose it to read and then got so caught up in summertime activities that I forgot about having it on my Kindle. Then came the rainy day that I discovered it and began reading right then and there…and couldn’t put it down until the end.
This story was simply a pleasure to read. The author’s writing style was fluid and I was easily swept away by the sheer romanticism of the plot. Ryan and Maiya hooked up at work and scorched up the sheets in the bedroom, but their relationship was complicated. They came from different worlds and had a lot of difficult emotional baggage. Ryan was occupied with business, family and being a single dad to his son. Maiya had worked hard to make it better life for herself. She had a very brash exterior that she used to cover a painful past; while inside she was emotionally fragile. The wonderful thing about this book was the amazing chemistry between these two totally opposite people and how they took a chance on being disappointed for the chance at love. Isn’t that what true romance is, after all ? I will tell you that it’s what I look for in a romance novel.
This book was a fun sexy read. The plot was original and enlivened by the engaging banter between Ryan and Maiya. I enjoyed the laughter and the way the author kept me smiling even when I got frustrated by how Maiya continued to push Ryan away. It got emotional at times, as there were a few really gutwrenching moments for Maiya. Then there were the sexy times, and may I just say that this book is plenty hot. It had a lot of love scenes and they were incendiary.
