Who can resist a free room at the Velvet Glove in exchange for rehabilitating an abused puppy? Certainly not Dane, who accepts the offer, but is surprised find that the pup in question is actually Tyg, a young man and sub who was left by his master, in a cage, with no food or water. Tyg needs help and, Dane is the man for the job, even if he’s used to working with animals, not humans. Can Dane rehabilitate a human as he would a dog? Does he even want to? As his relationship with Tyg blossoms into something sweet and heartwarming, Dane thinks he just might, but what happens when Tyg’s “owner” returns?

Dane answers a special request from the Velvet Glove. He thinks he’s going to re-home and help re-train an abused, abandoned dog, but instead finds a slightly different situation. Dane finds himself thrown in the deep end of a special kind of fetish – men who pretend to be dogs. Taken by surprise by what he’s confronted with, Dane is nevertheless unwilling to desert an ill-treated man any more than he could an abused, real puppy. What follows between Dane and Tyg is a very different but no less touching story about learning to trust after deep betrayal and exploring outside the bound of a “normal” romantic relationship.

Tastefully written, this is certainly not your average romance. For those with a broader mind, however, it is an eye-opening read to a different lifestyle and set of rules. I found myself quite invested in Tyg as the author showed his perspective as well as Dane’s. Tyg is a truly damaged young man and coping the only way he seems capable of. Dane is a very loving, caring man who, while he seemed initially as if he’d bitten off more than he could chew, still appeared more than willing and able to rise to the challenge Tyg presents him with.

Overall despite the extraordinary circumstances I found this a sensual, well written story of erotic love and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’d recommend for anyone to look past some of the strong tones of dog-fetish to see beneath the exterior. Those who can do so will find a wonderful story of trust blossoming to love to heal the hurts of a man terribly abused. Both Tyg and Dane find something rare and almost magical, real love, where neither one expected it.
