Though a little choppy in the middle, it recovered well in the build-up to the ending, and finished on a satisfying note. Ms Hill’s characters, while appealing, only really became interesting when truly conflicted and dealing with the harsh reality of the situation at the climax.

One character that did stand out throughout the story was the “busybody”, affable Miss Jefferson who, try though she might, couldn’t convince her tenant to steer clear of Brody. She was a hoot! I couldn’t help but like her, especially when she finally comes around to Madison’s way of thinking and acts like a bulldog trying to protect them both!

Definitely worth reading, Wild Woods is a quick and entertaining read and, at eighty-eight pages, just right for light entertainment.
