Abe Grissom is tired of being alone and not knowing what to do with his life. No longer in the military he heads for home in hope of some answers.
With a little push from his mom he runs into Cameron Norwood. And Cameron has grown into a man worth drooling over. Should he stay or should he go? His future might be decided by looking to the past.
Is he Marine enough for the challenge?
They say you can’t go home again, but sometimes that is exactly where you need to be.
When too much alcohol and a very bad choice leads to discovery of Abe Grissom’s secret life, his military ‘buddies’ show him what happens to gays in their platoon. The beating ends his military career, and he goes home to try and put his life back together and plan for the future. What he didn’t count on was running into someone who would rock his world, and knock him out of the closet and into his arms.
Cameron Norwood had a teen crush on Abe back in high school, and no longer resembles his youthful nickname of Chunky Monkey. Abe soon realizes his mother and Cam’s father are doing their best to fix the two up, but why? With no job and living in his small hometown, can Abe offer Cam anything more than sneaking and hidden passion? Can Cam convince Abe they can be together openly, and does he even want to?
This is a sweet but hot short from Jambrea Jo Jones, and I love the characters she has brought so vividly to life here. I would love to see this couple again, to see how their lives have progressed. She captured small town America perfectly, with all the trials and tribulations, as well as the joys of knowing everyone and their business.
Abe Grissom is a man who took one risk too many in his personal life, and it caused him to lose his military career. As he says in the beginning of the story, too much alcohol and his raging libido overcame caution and good sense, and he paid for it with physical pain and injury. Once he’s home, he has decisions to make, and most involve leaving town-until he lays eyes on Cameron. I like Abe for his big heart and his protective streak where Cam is involved.
Cameron Norwood is a hot hunk, just the kind Abe likes. He lets Abe know he’s interested, and available, but until he is threatened, Abe does nothing to act on the mutual attraction. I like Cam and his determination to go after what he wants, and what he wants is Abe.
I enjoyed watching the light come on when Abe suddenly realized that there was something more than friendship between his mother and Cam’s father. His realization that they were ‘fixing’ him and Cam up was such a delight. Of course, this wouldn’t be a Jambrea Jo Jones story without a bit of scorch the sheet sex, and it is well worth the wait to get to the happy ever after for Abe and Cam.
I have this on my TBR right away pile. Jambrea really can bring to life her characters and the interaction between them always draws me in until I hit the end and want more!
