Reviewed by Tiger LilyIt’s Christmas Eve and Adam has a special gift for Paul–himself, wrapped in a big red bow.
Blindfolded and ready for a magical holiday, Adam anxiously waits for his boyfriend to come and unwrap him. Just when he thinks their date has been forgotten, the door bursts open and his lover arrives. They have the best sex of Adam’s life, but afterward Paul disappears before Adam can catch his breath or remove the blindfold.
Left with only the memory of a tender kiss, a mysterious Santa hat, and a tray of half-eaten cookies, Adam soon discovers his lover was not who he thought it was…
Who is that coming down the chimney? Santa? Ssh! It’s a secret, but it’s totally worth the surprise.
I love a good holiday story. Secret Santa was exciting beyond my wildest expectations. Ms. Wadsworth writes with fluidity and kept me riveted to my seat past the last page. I felt like I really got to know Adam and was in his skin as the story progressed. The story is a little short on details, but it is a short story, so it works.
The idea behind Adam’s gift is really sweet. He feels he and his boyfriend are getting too far apart. To bring them together, he’s offering himself. The idea isn’t original but the way Ms. Wadsworth pens the story, it’s unique. I liked the open-endedness of the story. It’s a HFN and it works well that way. There’s also a deep sadness in this story, despite the scorching heat. Let me tell you, I had to defog my screen, it got so hot. The interaction is filled with not only white hot lust, but surrender and submission—I wanted to see Adam get his heart’s desire. But I mentioned the sadness. I could completely understand Adam’s heartsickness—he wants to be with the man he loves. The man he loves, Paul, has changed. He’s become a stranger. To see the way Adam deals tugged on my heart.
If you want a story that’s got heat and heart, then you need to read Secret Santa. I give it 3 cherries.
