Emerald Douglas has fallen head over heels in love with the puppy she found on her doorstep. Oscar fills an empty space in her life and heart. That is, until a chance sighting of a lost dog poster in the park changes everything. Emerald knows she must do the right thing—she just isn’t sure what that is.

Cody Martin isn’t sure what to make of the woman standing on his doorstep. And Emerald is not prepared for the man’s heart-stopping good looks or his son’s tremendous joy at being reunited with his furry companion.

Can one small puppy lead three people on the path to becoming a family?

Emerald really wasn’t having a good day. She overslept and was late to an important meeting, she finds out she has to find a new apartment because they are going to demolish the building she lives in sooner than first quoted, and it’s raining hard enough to drown her. Finding the dog hiding in a bush was the highlight of her day!

Ms. Bedwell-Grime must be a pet owner herself because she recognizes how little time it takes for an animal to claim your heart. This is a cute, innocent novella about a career woman and a widowed man and his young son. It’s a toss-up over whether the dog or the child is the biggest matchmaker, and that’s my favorite part of this story.

This author knows how outspoken children can be about their ideas, never mind if the parents don’t share their enthusiasm. Jason, the son, makes all kinds of prudent suggestions: Why don’t you kiss her Dad? Why don’t you marry her, Dad? He makes me chuckle.

The story is a sweet romance where Emerald and Cody, the father, are just beginning to get to know each other. The love story proceeded a little faster than I expected but I do believe in love at first sight, so it could happen. Their romance dance is enhanced when Rudi, the dog, turns up missing again and they have to search for him. It’s a perfect moment of bonding.

This would be a good beach read or a nice little tale to read while sitting in front of the fireplace. It’s warm and fuzzy and it’d be good if you had a pet next to you that you could pat on the head while you’re reading. I enjoyed this read, why don’t you try it?
