If you’re looking for a real romance, though – you may be a bit disappointed. Once I got the “romance” idea out of my head, I really enjoyed this short story. Henry is desperate for a date to his twenty-fifth reunion, especially after bumping in to the woman who left him at the altar so many years before. What’s a man to do?

Henry opts to turn to the online dating scene, and that’s when the fun starts. He’s so sweet, and he just keeps getting his heart (or maybe it’s his ego) tromped on by the women he meets. Henry’s a sweetheart, simple and caring. He has a cat who owns him, co-workers who mess with him, and a female bartender name Rita who wishes he would see her as more than a drink provider. In truth, as much as I loved Henry, I struggled to like Rita. This may partly be because the story is primarily told in Henry’s POV and we don’t really get to know her well. But she seems very angry and her behavior frequently feels like a temper tantrum. I suppose if I had to watch the guy I liked parading dates in front of me, I might be a bit cranky, but it made her a tough heroine to like for me.

Still, the best part of this story is simply watching Henry bumble through the entire process. I never thought about stopping reading – I was attached to the man. He’s sweet, charming, unaffected and just a really good guy. He deserves a the happy ending he eventually gets.
