Romance celebrates living and Into the Flames grabs onto that belief bringing vibrant and urgent passion to life in this short but powerful love story.
John is the captain at a fire station so he carries a huge load of responsibility on his shoulders. It’s a demanding career fraught with peril every time they respond to a call and it’s his job to follow the rules and make sure the others under his command do the same. For him, following the rules is a personal crusade, and as the story gets told a reader becomes aware of an inner pain that really hasn’t healed and explains why potential rule breakers are dealt with more harshly.
Gabe is the catalyst in this story. He literally brings to a head the crux of John’s inner torment and makes him face what he’s done, or hasn’t done with his life. It’s Gabe’s dialogue that truly is the gem in this tale. If a reader is looking for the romantic aspect, then it’s all there. The prodding, the push for the truth and the eventual revelation that starts John towards healing, it’s all there when Gabe pushes the envelope. What I found interesting was the dynamic between Gabe and John. Although John is the one in charge career-wise, I see Gabe as the dominant one. It comes across in his actions and words and he’s exactly what John needs. Gabe doesn’t let him hide and won’t let him try and he does that by making him step out from his comfort zone. The results are explosive.
Except for two editing misses, this is a well told, compact story that has as its heart, the story of two men, one who needs love and the other who needs to give it. It has a powerful message about living life to the fullest without regrets and without fear. Play it smart and the world’s your oyster – and Gabe is a very smart man. Read Into the Flames for a short shot of romance where the man love is hot and the potential for their happily ever after is just beginning. I know this because John smiled. Read the book and find out why that’s so meaningful. I’m glad I did.
