I nabbed this story because it looked like a fun read. It turned out I was right. Ms. Monroe’s writing is quick paced and kept me right in my seat. The plot worked because it had plenty of twists I didn’t see coming and yes, I wanted to know how the book ended. The ending was the best part.
Keep in mind, this is a short story. There are parts where it’s a little thin on detail. For the most part, it works. I really didn’t need a bunch of scientific discussion and simply liked the potion was called ‘potion number nine’. I wanted to see what the potion would do. I liked the scene in the elevator. Ms. Monroe does write sexy heroes. Jericho is one for the books (pardon the pun). He’s got an original name that stuck with me after the book closed and I could picture him in my mind from the author’s descriptions. This story is mainly told from the heroine’s point of view, so if I had a qualm about Jericho, it was that I wanted to know what he was thinking more often.
Leah, the heroine, was a perfect addition to the story. I knew precisely what she thought throughout the book and loved her tentative attitude with Jericho—she didn’t want to ruin a good, solid working relationship (even if it was more or less in silence). The interplay between them made me smile.
If you want a book that’s got a balance of heart and heat, then you need to read Chemical Love. I give this book 3 cherries.
