T.J.’s a man–okay, a shape-shifting tomcat–with a plan. He intends to ask his wizard lover MacGowan to officially move in with him and make this the best Festivus ever. Unfortunately–or not unfortunately, really–he keeps getting distracted by MacGowan’s hot bod. You know how tomcats are. Purrrr.

That aside, T.J.’s got a minefield’s worth of hurdles to jump before he can give MacGowan the keys to his apartment. That list includes meddling Nereids, pointedly absent friends, and a Psychokitty with a decided inclination to meddle in the affairs of cats and men. As the cherry on top, MacGowan’s almost too busy stressing out over learning to be a “real” wizard to pay attention to T.J.

Still, this tomcat has learned that home is where the heart is, and he’s going to hang onto his magical relationship with MacGowan with all four sets of claws, come what may. (And a lot may come, including them if they’re lucky).

Merry festivus to you — and boy, did T.J want it to be a great one. Add a hot wizard and the entire apartment to themselves and sparks were definitely going to fly — in the bedroom that is.

I think T.J makes a great character. He is witty and does his best to try and keep MacGowan in a positive mood. It is obvious he cares deeply for MacGowan and will do anything to prove he is the perfect lover and familiar. I would, however, have liked to have seen more about MacGowan’s personality. You get so much more from T.J because the story is told from T.J.’s perspective.

There are way too many clichés, catch phrases and slogans for my liking. At one point there were numerous slogans in one paragraph. I understood some of them being in T.J’s dialogue to show more of his personality, but it was just a little too over the top for my taste.

With short stories, sometimes you miss the back story. I felt that was the case when it came to the undines/sardines. Since they were such an important part to the plot I would’ve liked to have known more about them in the beginning. You do start to understand them the further you get into the story but at the beginning they just left one big question mark in my mind. Other than this detail I felt the plot was well constructed. And for better or worse, the relationship consistently moved forward.

The way the author was able to combine T.J’s tomcat side with his human side was remarkable. Little things like the way he would purr when MacGowan touched him a certain way really added depth to his character. His feline side was just as important to his human side and they both where always sharing one mind. T.J alone was enough to keep me reading this story. I give this one 3 cherries.
