Revieweed by HollyHazel Cooke is a single mom, leading a quiet life working as a librarian. She doesn’t think she’ll ever find the right man, but then she meets Bacchus Krastos. Bach is gorgeous, charismatic and makes her feel like a true goddess. He’s an ideal lover, but she worries their relationship won’t be anything more.
Bach, Olympus’ original party animal, has fallen hard for the shy librarian. He wants Hazel for a lifetime, but first he has to convince her that not only is he a god, but she can help him stop the Titans from wiping out the universe. She’ll need to accompany him to a Bacchanalia, a sexual ritual in which Orpheus Dark, a powerful god and Bach’s longtime friend, will endow Bach with his power with Hazel’s help.
Will Hazel agree to join Bach and Orpheus at the Bacchanalia for a world of love and intense passion like she’s never experienced before?
Hazel Cooke is a librarian, with an adventurous streak she keeps buried; deeply buried. After all, she is a single mom and can’t afford to do half of the things her imagination comes up with. When she faints in the library, she is caught in the arms of the hottest man she has ever laid eyes on, and her mind goes into overdrive with fantasies.
Bach Krastos is much older than he looks, and he is tired of the life he has been living. Especially since his daughter has settled down with her two husbands-the god of Death, Thanatos and the god of sleep and dreams, Hypnos. You see, Bach is actually Bacchus, and he has decided that he wants to settle down with one woman to love and cherish. When he meets Hazel and her son, he realizes that this is what he has been looking for. But the Gods are restless, and one of them is trying to undermine the whole pantheon. Can Hazel find happiness with an immortal god? Can Bacchus protect Hazel and her son when the going gets tough? Will Hazel trust Bach enough to give her heart to him forever?
This is one time when a sequel is so much more than the first book. Corinne Davies has done wonderful research into the mythology behind her characters, and provides such deeply detailed descriptions, I could see these characters clearly. Hazel is the librarian with an overactive libido, and Bach is just the man (God) to bring out the best in her. In my opinion they were the perfect combination.
The story is rich with myth and history, and yet is completely modern at the same time. I love the way that Hazel is slow to trust Bach, and when he introduces her to his daughter and her husbands, she recognizes them from an incident in her past. When she finally decides that Bach is really who he says he is, can she trust him enough to go through with the ritual at the last Bacchanalia that Bach plans on throwing? It was certainly interesting to find out.
There are a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming, but they fit the story well, and the mystery of who is behind the unrest of the gods is hinted at, although never completely revealed. So I look forward to more books in this fantastic series, and hope they will come soon. I recommend this to all who love the blending of myth and modern romance, with lots of hot, anything and everything goes action.
Holly, You are a botanical goddess. Thank you for such a wonderful review.
