Cat lived on the marina for most of her life. Her constant joy was working at the Beach Front Amusement Park. Each day, she listened to the melodious voice of Orrick O’Neal, as he sang near her booth. Orrick’s father owns the park and after a horrible divorce, Orrick is picking up his life, bits at a time. Their attraction develops when Cat finds Orrick standing idly on the pier. The divorce has taken a toll and Cat envelops him with affection. After a year of dating, Orrick can’t live without her. She’s smart, sassy, and full of life. However, life is about to change for Orrick. He’s taking a job in Malibu, and can’t bear to leave her. Orrick plans a boat ride to make Cat his bride. This story is based on the poem, The Owl and the Pussy-Cat.

This is a well orchestrated love story with a traditional flair that I greatly appreciated.

The reason that I liked it so much is because of how Ms. LaBlaque had Orrick propose and everything that led up to it. The author showed me how their relationship built, how they connected and what drew them together. There was romantic and heartfelt dialogue to back it up and a grand gesture that has the power to make a romance reader sigh with satisfaction.

The dialogue actually helped draw the line between people who are going places in spite of the odds they fought against, and those that are slackers and bums. When a reader finally meets Digger, they’ll understand. Although Cat, the heroine, had a relative that didn’t seem to think the hero was all that, the author provided opportunities for a reader to make their own judgment. I also appreciated Cat’s strength of character and her compassion.

There wasn’t a heavy conflict at all. This was definitely a character driven romance with Cat’s being the primary point of view. The editing was fine. Do I wish that Orrick wasn’t so commanding and manipulating? Yes. I do prefer a more equal footing in a relationship but something tells me that Cat will have no compunction about correcting her man’s behavior when needed. And Orrick is a smart man, he’ll catch on.

Cat’s Desire is a cute and romantic short story that connects with a reader’s feelings. The book has a way of zinging right to the heart of the matter and reaches the emotions inside, making a reader care for both Cat and Orrick. It’s was a refreshing change of pace with an interesting locale. I’m glad I read it.

She believes she’s not missing anything by not having a new man in her life and she struggles with letting go of the past. Bran may not have been completely forthcoming to Lisa, but he is quite honorable in his intentions to the widow, which he makes clear to her from the beginning. With the focus of the story mostly on these two characters, it was easy to connect with both.

Although the story makes good use of the pages it contains, I couldn’t help but wish for more of both Lisa and Bran’s back story and a little more of the future. I recommend this story to readers looking for a quick read with a relatable heroine and hero you’ll want to hold on to.
