What could be headier than the surrender of a powerfully dominant woman?

Dom Damien Lowell has always respected Domme Catrina Davidson. He likes the way she interacts with her subs, confident, kind, firm. And for years he’s fantasised about her submitting to him. What could be hotter than having the sexy Domme squirming beneath his lash?

One evening, Damien challenges her, saying she’d be a much better Domme if she experienced submission…to him.
Catrina doesn’t have a single submissive tendency. But she’s oh-so turned on when she watches a sub respond to Damien. A secret part of her is intrigued, and she asks herself, what harm can come from giving him two weeks?

Over the next fortnight, she is introduced to the pleasures and perils of servitude. She has to admit that he’s right—her understanding of submission is deeper, more profound, than it would have been otherwise. But the private experiences they share in the Den leave her emotionally shattered, making her question everything she thought she knew.

In her unique way, Catrina too, challenges Damien, forcing him to grow as a Dom, and he wonders how the hell he’ll ever be able to let her go.

Sometimes, after several books an author’s writing quality starts to decrease. That’s not the case with In the Den, by Sierra Cartwright. In this novel, book 6 of the Mastered series, Ms. Cartwright delivers a fascinating story that sucked me right in from page one.

Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary to read the rest of the series before this one, but I highly recommend it as it’s nice to recognize some old characters and to get to know the mysterious owner of the Den, Damien Lowell, from the start.

The overall plot might not be innovative, but Cartwright’s writing is wonderful. The words flow easily, and as with earlier books I was seduced into the world she creates. Also, as I’ve mentioned in other reviews, she has a knack of teaching about the BDSM lifestyle through her books without detracting from the erotic, without making it seem like an actual lesson. Everything seems natural and the story rolls effortlessly.

Though In the Den is erotic beyond any words I could write here, what really makes it a great read is the love story between the characters. It was emotional, heady, full of unexpected little paths that left me wondering if they’d make in the end. After all, Damien was not falling for any girl. The woman to whom he had decided to dedicate all his affections was none other than the respected Domme Catrina Davidson.

Initially I was a bit hesitant about Catrina becoming a submissive. After all, she was a Domme, had been since forever and that made her awesome to my eyes. Nevertheless, this was also precisely why I was intrigued: How the hell was Damien going to bend her to his will? It would have definitely been very interesting to read if it had been done the other way, Catrina dominating Damien, but Ms. Cartwright still caught me up in the intricate romance that bloomed between these two.

And romance it was.

Damien is not only old-world manners, good looking, intelligent and wealthy. He’s seduction on two feet and he snuggles! He knows what he wants and he goes after it without hesitating, but when it comes to love, it was interesting to see a different side of Damien. I knew he was in love long before he figured it out.

Catrina is Damien’s equal in everything. More than once I found myself wondering what it would be like to be under her scrutinizing wide-eyed gaze. The path that Damien leads her into, was not easy to watch. More than once I found myself holding back tears with her, struggling with every step of wanting to submit but not quite getting there yet.

There is little more I can say about the sex: it is amazing, scorching, sizzling. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts (I’m still reliving that first kiss in my mind or the coffee table scene).

All in all, In The Den is a great novel, which I’ve already read twice and I know I will read again and again.

Fire-red magic and white-hot nights make up the best witch’s brew…

Young witch Cian is coming into her own—and her magic. She’s happy rescuing the black cats that society doesn’t want, but she’s lonely. A sexy man to warm her nights would be perfect. Too bad the man in question isn’t interested—or is he?

Officer Tommy Barnes noticed red-haired beauty Cian the first time he stepped into her store, but a witch and a cop shouldn’t mix—should they? And what’s with her seemingly sinister interest in black cats? He can’t deny his attraction to her, so while his sixth sense says she’s harmless, a little investigative work between the sheets never hurt…

Can Tommy withstand the red-hot fire or will this witch get the best of him?

After her partner at Miss Scarlett’s Potions finds true love, witch Cian Roston wonders if she will ever find someone of her own to love. When black cats start disappearing, the police come to call, in the person of Tommy Barnes. After deciding that Cian is innocent of things she has been accused of, Tommy discovers he is attracted to Cian. Both Cian and Tommy have been hurt before, so they decide to take things slowly. When it becomes clear someone is targeting Cian and trying to run her out of town, Tommy decides to do what he can to keep her safe. As things heat up between Cian and Tommy, so does the campaign to ruin Cian’s reputation. Can Tommy find out who is behind the cult that has targeted Cian before someone gets hurt? Can Cian accept the love that Tommy offers her? Can two wounded souls find happiness and healing in each other’s arms for a forever love?

Firelit Magic is Wendi Zwaduk’s second visit to this world of romance and magic she has so skillfully crafted. It is a world where witches are part of the world at large, and mostly accepted by society. The characters are well defined and very likable, and the world is one I would like to continue to visit. I like the interplay between the lead characters, and like that the secondary characters are people I’ve met before and also liked.

Cian Roston is a witch. She is strong and independent, and caring and sensitive to all living things. She rescues black cats, because she believes they have gotten a ‘bad rap’ over the years. She watched as her best friend found her soul mate, and wants to find one of her own. I like that she was not intimidated by those who want to cast her in a bad light, and like her spunky attitude in protecting her charges. I enjoyed watching as she tried not to fall for Tommy, and was happy to see her decide to take a chance on him.

Tommy Barnes is strong, honest and determined. He likes being a cop, and is determined to get to the bottom of what is happening with Cian. After all, just because she is a witch doesn’t mean she is stealing or killing the black cats as she is accused of doing. Even though he is attracted to her, he still doesn’t believe a witch and a cop should be together. I liked that Tommy was open minded enough to decide to ask for a date with Cian, to get to know her better. I enjoyed watching as Tommy discovered that there was much more to Cian than just being a witch, and that he was willing to give a relationship a try after all. His surprise at her powers was such fun to watch.

There is a dark side to this story, as the leader of the cult tries to incriminate Cian in order to force her to leave town. And the surprise of who that leader was, is something I will not reveal here; if you want to know who was behind much of the evil doing and treachery, I recommend you read this one. The chemistry between Cian and Tommy builds exponentially, and I enjoyed Tommy’s shock when Cian actually glows during their romantic and hot interludes. This is for those who like their romances magical and hot, and be sure to keep tissues and ice water nearby.

At a masked ball, where no one is what they seem, a jaded rake is surprised by his reaction to the one woman he should not pursue.

During a masked ball, Sophie Crandle’s mask gives her the courage she needs to follow the man she expects to propose to her into the gardens, where she brazenly asks him for the one thing that will tell her if she can accept him—a kiss. And what a kiss it is! Her elation turns to horror, however, when she realises she is kissing the wrong man. The man who has awakened her desire is not the man who is courting her, but his brother, the Earl of Dearbourne. A notorious rake, he is more likely to ruin Sophie than provide her with the social acceptance she needs.

Richard Hearst, the Earl of Dearbourne, receives the shock of his life when he discovers the beautiful woman falling apart in his arms thinks she is kissing someone else. He is determined to claim her for himself…even if the man she is meant for is his brother.

A compact, complete story that touched my heart and steamed up my ereader!

Dear Stranger was a sweet romance with a heroine, Sophie Crandall, who was determined to both follow her heart and to do what is right. At first, it seems this will be an easy task, as she discovers she is very much attracted to the man she plans to marry when she kisses him in a dark garden one night. Only as it turns out, the man she kissed is not who she believed and all her best laid plans go awry.

I loved following Sophie as she struggled with difficult decisions. She has an aunt who is utterly unsympathetic, and an almost fiancé, Henry, who isn’t really any more interested in her than she is in him. But duty is duty, and they both try to do the right thing.

However, Henry’s brother Richard is equally determined to lead Sophie astray. This isn’t such a difficult task as Sophie is desperately attracted to him, and they embark on a secret affair.

Ms. Medeiros makes this quite believable, despite the stifling traditions of the times, as Sophie is not entirely respectable and Richard certainly isn’t. The sex scenes are well written, detailed and certainly get the blood flowing – woo hoo! – but don’t expect much beyond the vanilla. If you’re looking for kink, you won’t find it here, but if you want an adorable couple, who fall sweetly in love and manage to really heat up the sheets while they do and if you enjoy a hard fought happy ending, then Dear Stranger is a good choice. Despite its few pages, it’s a very complete story with heat and heart.

Even love witches get the blues.

Havan’s magical potions bring couples together and give them the happily ever after of their dreams. Too bad her spells don’t work for her. In Erie View, the townspeople see nothing more than a witch. All she wants is to find that special man to embrace her quirks and love her. Will she be able to accept the blessings of the Goddesses or lose faith in herself?

Neil doesn’t believe in magic. It’s trickery for television and movies. No one creates a spell for people to fall in love. Hell, he doesn’t even believe in love. After a string of crappy dates and dead-end romances, he’s through with relationships. But a chance meeting at the grocery store changes his mind. Havan’s nothing like he expects—but is the blue haired witch enough to make him give romance another shot?

Candlelit Magic is Wendi Zwaduk’s take on a love witch, a fun and sexy story with charismatic characters and a world that could be any neighborhood, as long as that neighborhood included witches and such.

At Madame Scarlett’s, the shop Havan and her friend and fellow witch operate, Havan has brought love and happy ever afters to many couples seeking her special touch. Her spells and potions have helped many find that special someone, but still, she hasn’t found her own match. When the brother of one of her happy couples shows an interest in Havan, she fears she may have inadvertently captured his heart with a spelled candle, or maybe a love potion. Neil has never met someone quite like Havan before, but he is interested in getting to know her, and asks her to be his date at his sister’s wedding. Although interested, Havan can’t quite conceive that Neil would find her attractive without some magical inducement, and is hesitant to get involved. Can Neil convince Havan that what he feels is all them, not magically induced? Can Havan find the courage to accept what Neil offers? Can these two wounded hearts come together and heal each other?

I like this world, and the way Ms. Zwaduk has blended the mundane and the supernatural seamlessly, and I hope to see more of this world in the future.

Havan is a love witch, bringing love and happiness to couples in town. But due to past issues, she doesn’t believe in herself, and her self-worth is very low. When she first meets Neil, she is attracted, but fears that the candle and love potion he bought are influencing his attraction to her. I like Havan, although at times I just wanted to shake her to bring her out of her self doubt about Neil’s feelings. I like her quirky attitude and her unusual way of looking at life, both in general and in regard to herself. I enjoyed watching as she began to believe in herself, and decided that, just maybe, she could have her own happy ending with Neil.

Neil is handsome, caring and sexy as all get out. He wants to see his sister happy, and so he helps with her wedding, in spite of his past issues with romance. He has been hurt, and isn’t sure he is ready or willing to be hurt again. When he meets Havan, in fact even before he actually meets her (when he sees her at the grocery store) he feels an attraction, a special pull towards her. He sees past the blue hair and the hearse she drives, to the insecure and slightly wounded woman inside. He wants to see where this will lead, and is determined to get past Havan’s walls to the warm and loving woman he believes is there. I like Neil for his ‘never give up’ attitude, and his ability to see past the quirks to the sensitive woman behind it all. Although not a believer at first, Neil soon believes in Havan and her special brand of magic.

This is a charming and sexy story, just perfect for an evening of magic and romance. I like the secondary character in this, Havan’s best friend and partner in Madame Scarlett’s shop, Cian. She is Havan’s biggest supported and fights to convince Havan to reach for something more with Neil, to really take a chance at love and happiness. I recommend this for those who believe there is a bit of magic in every love story, and hope to visit this world Ms. Zwaduk has created.

All work and no play makes life boring…unless there’s a dollop of whipped cream and a studded paddle involved. Then it’s all fun.

Roxy loves her job at the Delight Tonight restaurant, but she longs for more. She’d rather find employment using her accounting skills. Her boss, Sean, has mentioned he’s interested in bringing her on as an accountant. Can she keep her wits about her or will she cave in to the blossoming feelings she has for him?

Sean doesn’t date his staff…ever. Except, Roxy makes him rethink his rules. She’s curvy, sexy and one of the few people he trusts. When he’s given the birthday surprise of his life, he knows he wants Roxy in every way.

Will getting her into his bed translate into a love to last forever, or a lust and chocolate-filled disaster?

Roxy works at the Delight Tonight and has a serious crush on one of her bosses, Sean Malkin. Despite the fact she’s a server, she has hopes to one day use her degree in accounting and start working the books. When her other boss, Elias, calls her over, Roxy is hoping this is her big break. What she actually gets asked is to be involved in some nyotaimori for Sean’s birthday party – to be a naked, human serving platter and have food eaten from her bare skin. Although she’s done this before, Roxy has her doubts. But when Elias tempts her with the knowledge Sean has a thing for her, she can’t resist.

This smoking story takes BDSM and food play into a new direction. While I was reading it I wondered why on earth more people hadn’t done this style of sensual play in writing more often. I have actually read of naked human food platters before – but only the once – and coming across it again I found it just as sensual and intriguing as the first time. If a smoking hot man licking frosting, whipped cream or honey off your skin doesn’t do much for you, then this might be a book to miss, but I loved the different slant on a BDSM power play. The build up between Sean and Roxy was deliciously paced and had me turning the pages quickly.

I also really enjoyed how for a change Roxy didn’t fall all over herself to keep Sean in her bed. After their initial party, both Roxy and Sean take some time to reflect and make certain of themselves. This added an element of realism that as a reader I really appreciated. This wasn’t some fantasy “after sex they’re dedicated for life” style of plot, but each had to work to make the relationship viable. I also really liked how Sean isn’t perfect – he has issues and baggage and both he and Roxy need to work through their problems to make their relationship work. It was refreshing to not just have a few hot sex scenes strung together with a thin plot, but for the characters to actually have problems that needed discussion and resolving.

Smoking hot with some BDSM and food play, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I found it addictive. The characters are well drawn and realistic, and the chemistry between them is enough to singe you. I really enjoyed this story and would happily read more by this author.

A construction worker and a security expert tangle beneath the heated skies of San Antonio.

Pierce ‘Tuck’ Carter has been in love with his neighbour across the hall pretty much since she moved in over there. They’re good friends and do many things together but he wants to take it to the next level. Friends with benefits for starters, then beyond.

Ariel Greene is secretly crushing on her neighbour. One night after drinking she wakes the next morning in his bed and flees. Has she just crossed a line they can’t recover from?

Tuck pursues her, wanting more, however one of his exs, each of their jobs and his intense dislike of her putting herself in danger doesn’t make the road an easy one. Will Ariel and Tuck learn to work it all out before something else happens, or will it take the near loss of one to make the other realise what had almost been lost forever?

Ariel Greene has a crush on her neighbor Tuck, but he is always occupied with one woman or another. So she crushes from afar and thinks about what it would be like to be with him.

Tuck would do anything to get Ariel in his bed; he has been in love with her for a long time but had never done anything to let her know that he was interested. So imagine his surprise when after a night of drinking, Ariel kisses him and finally ends up in his bed.

Alone With You is a very delightful story, it is the second book in Aliyah Burke’s Interludes series, the first being Temporary Home. This is a stand alone book so it isn’t necessary for you to read the first book in this series; however Temporary Home is an excellent story so I do recommend you read it.

The characters in Alone With You were engaging and the chemistry between them was hot, not only in the bedroom but outside of the bedroom. This story had everything that a reader needed to wrap themselves in; there was hot sex, conflict, witty conversation and a good story. I enjoyed how Ariel’s family especially her mom referred to her military service as her ‘playing in the dirt’ instead of recognizing her as a Marine.

The characters in this story, Tuck, Ariel and Tuck’s roommate Steve reached out and pulled you into their lives. The supporting characters such as Ariel’s parents and Tuck’s ex girlfriend Daisy helped show how complex Tuck and Ariel were.

Aliyah Burke is one of my go to authors because I know that she always delivers an enjoyable story. I have yet to read something by her that I did not like; she has a way of capturing her reader from the start and immerses you in her tale.

Alone with You is a good read and one that I would recommend, hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did.

When desire flows over it makes two head-strong people realise they are powerless under the onslaught of pleasure.

Leonardo Wright has been fighting his attraction to the sexy diva that gets under his skin like no other woman. Deyon is one woman who he can’t seem to resist. She is a family friend but he wants to take their relationship to another level. But he wants to do so on his terms…however when dealing with Deyon, she plays by her own rules and her passionate nature will not let him do as he wants. Take it slow and easy and build something lasting. Leo gives in and holds on for a journey that will bring him the one thing he wants more than all else—Deyon’s heart.

Deyon De’clare is not prepared to wait for any man to make a decision for her. Leo wants to be involved with her…and he thinks it will be the way he wants it. He is very wrong. Whatever they have will be by both their terms—a mutual meeting of minds, body and souls. At least that is the plan if she can get the stubborn sheriff to understand that she is not a woman who does anything unless she wants too. And she does want Leonardo Wright more than she ever expected. But when one is playing with matters of the heart you have to give in to those irresistible forces.

Deyon De’clare is one woman that Leonardo (Leo) Wright can’t seem to resist. Leo wants to pursue a relationship with Deyon, who is a head strong full figured X model turned designer, but she is a family friend. Will the two give in to the irresistible forces of attraction?

The story  starts out with Deyon in a race to get home before one of her headaches set in. Leo is a sheriff on duty and follows Deyon home to reprimand her of her careless and reckless driving. During one of his visits they discuss Leo wanting to get to know Deyon, not just sex but more along the lines of things a man finds out about a woman who has captured his interest. Deyon has her own personal reasons why she hasn’t approached Leo before. They agree and set up conditions on starting a relationship. Well it seems after a month they throw caution to the wind and change the conditions of their relationship. They exchange keys to each others place and start staying the night at each other’s place.

This is a pretty short novel but it took me longer than normal to complete. I wasn’t drawn into the characters, nor the storyline. I often found myself trying to figure out what the plot of the story was. This is part of a series, however, and may be part of the reason for my confusion, as well as be the reason why the story is bogged down by many events that do little to move the story forward.

Despite my concerns, the novel is also more than I expected. I expected the lead characters and their relationship to be the highlighted focus of the novel. However, the authors did a good job of including a host of characters and each added their own interesting piece to the story. The dialogue is snappy, and the bedroom scenes were hot and steamy.

This novel is much more than a couple giving into the forces of attraction. As with any couple, they love, disagree and have a life outside of their relationship. This is a novel that tells of events that take place in the city of McKingley. I haven’t read the prior books in the series but after reading this I would suggest maybe reading the prior books and hopefully it will fill you in on some of the people and events that take place in this novel so you can enjoy this story, and the rest, more.

When Jepoi meets the man of his dreams, he has no way of knowing that Malakai is a fallen Hawaiian god condemned to eternity…as a vampire.

The pantheon of gods were displeased when Kane, one of their major gods, fell out with his lover Kanaloa, one of the ruling forces over the Hawaiian Islands. Condemned to an eternal earth-bound life as a shape-shifting vampire, Malakai has one chance to break the curse. He must never fall in love and he must never intervene in human problems.

All that goes astray when he meets Jepoi, a young male nurse working on the Big Island of Hawaii. Malakai falls for Jepoi and can’t resist him, but then all hell literally breaks loose when Malakai saves Jepoi from ancient and deadly disease that returns to the fatal shores of Hawaii.

As far as Jepoi can tell, Malakai is like any other good-looking dream come true. Unfortunately, he’s so much more – an ancient Hawaiian god turned vampire – and the last thing Jepoi ever expected to cross his path. So, what is a young man to do when the love of his life has sworn to never fall in love nor intervene in human problems ever again? In a word: everything you can to make him change his mind.

Jepoi felt like an old friend from the very beginning. Working as a paramedic for an air ambulance, Jepoi is good at his job and enjoys it tremendously. His caring and dedicated nature were appealing and you can easily see why someone who has been banished as long as Malakai has been would be so drawn to him. In addition, his relationship with his roommate, Evelin, was endearing and charming, as well. I liked her a lot as well.

Malakai, also known as Kane, wasn’t as easy for me to warm up to. He’s one of those characters that, while you can tell you’re going to eventually like him, you have to ‘meet’ him a few times before it starts to all come together for you. Or, at least, that’s how it worked for me. By the end of the story, I was quite enamored of him. Malakai’s partner in crime, Felix, on the other hand, I was in love with his quirky self from the first moment I met him.

For me, the only downside to this lovely novel was the point near the end when the gods get involved and things become a bit muddy. I had a hard time keeping what was happening straight. I found myself flipping back a few pages here and there, just to reorient myself.

Fever is an intense, sexy vampire novel that will run you ragged from page one until the end. Filled with surprises, twists, and turns, I found myself constantly being startled by what came next. If you’re looking for a very steamy love story with the added touch of the paranormal, then this is the one for you.

Except something always has to give in this kind of relationship and when Serena finds herself in a position with not just ropes attached but also a future of strings she’s shocked and confused by her wealthy playboy’s sudden change in attitude and his dreams of marriage.

Working for Him takes employment to whole new levels and the author, Ms Edwards, writes with an easy to read style and certainly knows how to crank up the temperature in the sex scenes. I enjoyed the premise a lot, and liked how much Richard thought of Serena. I also liked how his determination both in and out of the bedroom showed him to be a good man. The characterization of Serena was also well portrayed and I enjoyed being in her head during the down-and-dirty scenes. Richard certainly knows what he’s doing. Phew!

If you like heat, a good plot that you can fall into for a little steamy fantasy time then Working for Him is a good choice. I’ll certainly read more by this author as her writing ticks all the boxes and pushes all the buttons!

The best hunter for the wolf shifters has met his match when he’s introduced to the small town human who captures his attention and heart.
Clint Price is enjoying his temporary assignment with the Alpha Council. The best part of every day is his morning visit to the local coffee shop. He soon finds himself enchanted by the human business owner.

Sara Webb hadn’t known that shifters really existed, so finding out that the large compound just outside of town was full of them was a shock. One look at Clint and she is more than intrigued.

When the town of Lovington is invaded with protesters and Clint is threatened, the residents come together in support. With the help of their friends and family, Clint and Sara fight for both their newfound love and shifter freedom.

Clint and Sara seem to have a similar goal in life, to protect those around them. Clint has done this most of his life by joining the service, as well as protecting his shifter friends and allies. Sara also has this drive, either just ingrained in her from birth, or by seeing her father the sheriff doing it for years. Together they make one heck of a team, including in the bedroom.

I had been introduced to Clint in previous stories, yet I still didn’t know much about him. I enjoyed the little bit of intrigue I had about him from the beginning. Clint is clearly a man who takes personal pride in his duty, which includes protecting those around him. He is even willing to sacrifice himself to accomplish this. He also has a way of accepting others that I found charming. While Sarah is human he doesn’t seem to care, and accepts her and those she holds dear almost immediately. He is a superhero in my eyes.

Sarah is not to be outdone by Clint. She too protects those she holds dear with the fierceness I would expect from a strong woman like herself. She accepts shifters, and the world around her, with a certain amount of bravado that others would not be capable of.

This story picks up where the last one ended. It can be read alone, but there may be a little disconnect with some of the conflict. I will say that most of these stories in this series are so addictive that you can read through them quickly, so going back to get acquainted with the other characters and previous plot build will not be a challenge. I have and will continue to recommend author Crissy Smith and The Were Chronicles to anyone looking for an entertaining shifter story, especially if you like a little spice.
