Kachina Raven is a Reconnaissance Agent for the Vampire Eradication Network.

One night while escaping a murderous cult of vampire wannabes, she meets Kael. There is an immediate attraction but she knows there is something odd about him. He has some very unusual skills and abilities. She’s sure he isn’t a vampire but knows he’s no ordinary human either.

She knows she’ll always be stalked by vampires and doesn’t want to put anyone else at risk by having a relationship with them. Her life is further complicated by the relentless pursuit of a homeland security agent.

Kael is an alpha male used being the protector but Raven makes it clear she can fight her own battles. He’s frustrated by her refusal to acknowledge the strength of the attraction between them and is determined to have her as his mate.

After wrapping her motorcycle around a tree, Raven seeks the safety of a large biker pub to escape the vampire cult goons chasing after her. Drawing many of the customers’ attention, it’s Kael whose gaze she senses most sharply. The attraction between them is electric, instant and undeniable. When a number of the cult members – and their vampire leader – track her to the pub, the situation becomes dire. Kael and Raven escape together, and start down a long and winding path neither could have forseen.

This is a quick-moving, action packed vampire and werewolf book. The characters are gritty and modern, tough but still quite easily relatable to. I thoroughly enjoyed both the dense plot and the multi-layered, complex characters. Raven is a seriously kick-ass vampire hunter with slick moves and five years experience under her belt. Although mostly human and fallible, she is not some lame, half-baked wanna be.

Matching her perfectly, Kael is an alpha werewolf, with keen senses and more than a few tricks up his sleeve. While always clearly explained and understandable, I got a little frustrated with Raven and Kael not trusting each other. Instead of using any and all resources – including each other – I found it strange they’d run from one another despite the attraction neither denies. Despite this and a few other small niggles I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Especially as the first in a series it started on a high note – the plot is convoluted and engrossing, the characters are strongly written and practically jump from the page.

There is a bit of back-story to catch up with and sometimes took me a moment or two to follow along with what was going on, but those times were easily overshadowed by the action and characterization. Overall I’d certainly recommend this book to paranormal readers, especially ones that like a bit of spice and plenty of heat in their romance. There are a number of other well-written, strong secondary characters from both the Vampire Eradication Network and I’d certainly expect more follow up books in this series.

Tessa Jordan, abusive marriage survivor and owner of Tessa’s Treasures, an antique store, has sworn off relationships of any kind–until she comes face to face with the object of her teenage crush and falls into his arms, literally. Widower Lucas Raven has returned to Duncan after retiring from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Lucas has two things in mind: ask Tessa to look at the antiques he found in the attic of his house, and see if his feelings for her have lasted through the years. She does, and they have–tenfold.

When Tessa realizes the scrimshaw doll she’s agreed to sell has a curse attached to it, she wonders if it’s behind the strange things happening to her. Is it truly the doll wreaking havoc, or is someone out to get her? And since she’s sworn off relationships, how can she keep a very determined Lucas at arm’s length?

Widower Lucas Raven has come home after quitting the FBI. He goes to see Tessa Jordan at her antiques store to get some help clearing out the attic of the house he recently purchased. Using the excuse to get to know his old crush better they both embark on the slow process of rediscovering one another. Each of them have pain from the past locked away and difficulties to overcome. The slow, gradual growth of romantic feelings is a sweet and wonderful thing to read. I found it quite easy to lose myself in the gentle ebb and flow of Lucas and Tessa.

Both Lucas and Tessa are middle aged which I found delightfully written and refreshing. I also really enjoyed how the book focused so fully on their blossoming relationship and not their differences, like Tessa being a vegetarian and Lucas a traditional meat and potatoes man. Initially Tessa is a bit skittish, but Lucas shows an abundance of patience. This is a sweetly sensual book about two people who’s lives have diverged but fate gives them a second chance together.

While there are a few subplots, the real spotlight is on the characterizations and interactions predominantly between Lucas and Tessa. It’s a sweet, gentle read and highly enjoyable.

Running from a past of privilege, deceit, and danger, Travis Simms is ready to settle down. What better place to forget all he left behind than the quiet little Montana town of Lolo Hot Springs? His goal is clear — build a hotel and his own destiny without complications — until one of the town’s most troublesome women captures his attention.

Dusty Larson is hell bent on independence, helping her sister run the Triple D Ranch. She can do anything a man can, and do it better, so she certainly doesn’t need one in her life. The only problem is she seems to attract bad luck and danger…and Travis. Can he tame her wild ways and keep his bachelor status intact — or does he risk losing his heart?

Travis Simms was passing by a water hole when he discovered Dusty Jean Larson and her sister being held up by a ruffian. Unable to pass by without offering assistance, he saves them – though with a knife strapped to her ankle and well versed in using a gun, Dusty firmly believes she had it all under control herself. Sparks fly when they continue to cross paths around town and argue over multiple things, including the possession of a particular horse. When they finally admit they enjoy sparring with one another a slow, fun-filled and pleasantly antagonistic relationship blossoms between them.

This book is everything an old-fashioned Western novel should be. Filled with fun, laughter and fire it will appeal to a broad spectrum of people. The characters all but jump up from the page, memorable and vivid. The slow burn of growing chemistry between Travis and Dusty is realistic and very well written. There is plenty of plot thrown in, revolving around both Travis’ constructing a new hotel just outside the town, Dusty’s family and the local townspeople.

I enjoyed how the author took care of many details, from the language and social interactions, giving the novel a real feel of an Old Western. There’s also enough spice to keep younger readers addicted, while keeping it from being too racy to recommend to your mother or grandmother. This really is a novel for all generations – something to be enjoyed and shared with everyone.

Evie Caldwell hates her life. Five years ago, she gave up college and her dream of teaching to care for her ailing mother. Now, she’s trapped taking care of her worthless brother and the family ranch. Waiting tables to earn her way out of Texas, the last thing she wants is a muscleman with a macho Marine attitude complicating her life. But, oh, how that man makes her insides melt.

Wounded vet Win Fairchild returns to Texas to heal, find a piece of his soul, and open a ranch for amputee children. Finding someone to love is not on his agenda. But when he starts work at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk, a spitfire with violet eyes and a major attitude instantly captures his heart.

Evie just wants to escape, but now that Win knows what he wants, can he convince Evie to stay in Texas—and his bed?

Those Violet Eyes is one of the better surprises that’s happened to me in my reading life. Because the story is based in a small town in which the hero arrived on a motorcycle (Harley), I expected something completely different. Also because of the setting, I anticipated a gallery of meddling secondary characters. And, since the hero arrived on a Harley I expected that he would be portrayed as a saver of a fragile virgin heroine (something like a new version of the Prince in Shining Armor). But, as I said, I was more than pleasantly surprised.

Those Violet Eyes is great story, with wonderfully strong characters. The book is focused on the relationship between Evie and Win, and because they are both strong, independent and real, it has its ups and downs. In the end they accept one another with all their strengths and weaknesses and they end up supporting each other. Both the heroine and hero have one feature or trait that the author could have misused to turn them into whining and pathetic characters. Instead, she turned their weaknesses into their strengths.

Evie, the heroine, is torn between leaving the town to lead her own life and honor bound to take care of her brother. Certainly, that does not make her a weak character. She is maybe torn but she knows what she wants. All she needed was just a small push in the right direction in order to make the decision that was right for her.

Win, the hero, is a war veteran who has PTSD and is missing a leg. He does not see himself as a disabled person, on the contrary he is the one who is pushing Evie into that right direction, while she is the one who is soothing him when he has nightmares. What I particularly loved about the story is that the heroine’s virginity is not the central issue or conflict of the relationship between the heroine and hero. There are no meddling secondary characters so Evie and Win totally carry the story.

Those Violet Eyes is not a light read because the author effectively portrayed the aftermath of the atrocities of war on war veterans. The story also contains some scenes of war violence. Regardless of this Those Violet Eyes is a really satisfying emotional read that I highly recommend.

Beach volleyball player Sam Waterson knows he made a mistake–a really big one–three years ago when paparazzi interrupted his jubilant celebration with sexy Carlos Delacruz, the love of Sam’s life, and with their ménage partner Drew Eversly…and Sam blamed the public exposure on the wrong man. But fate has given him a second chance to prove his prowess on the sun-baked beach volleyball court and at loving the sensual man who has unknowingly held his heart. Can he–or Carlos or Drew–win a spot on the team? But even beyond sweating it out on the court and regaining the spot they had to forfeit three years ago, can Sam win back Carlos’s heart? Sam needs to show Carlos that he can spike and score where it counts…between the sheets.

Sam Waterson can’t quite get Carlos Delacruz or Andrew Eversly out of his system. After a particularly good day of volleyball trials the three men had partied on the sand, only to be interrupted by the tabloids. Thrown out of the trials, his family upset by all the media coverage, Sam went back to Montana, hoping to forget California and the two men he wanted more than anything. Now offered a second chance three years later, Sam is hoping not only to make the team, but reignite things between himself, Carlos and Drew. While Carlos and Drew are more than happy to pick up where they left off sexually, trusting Sam with their hearts and emotions comes a lot slower. So Sam determined to try and prove himself to the men, not willing to let them slip through his fingers a second time.

This is a steamy, sporty short story. The action is all-male, with a good balance between sexy M/M/M action and the politics and competitive nature of high-level sport. I liked how the villain was all bad –completely irredeemable. I also really enjoyed how the guys didn’t just fall over each other and forget their past. It added depth to the story and made it far more than just a delicious romp between team-mates. The sex scenes were well written and highly sensual. This is an excellent quick read for a sporty weekend.

The serial killer stalking Clayton, Pennsylvania, isn’t all that has Chief of Police Grace Wallace worried. For a year, she’s tried to forget Special Agent Ian McHenry, and now he’s the expert the FBI sent to catch the killer. She can’t stay away from him, but something primal is telling her to run to save much more than just her heart.

Despite the strict code of ethics Ian vowed to follow as a vampire hunter, he craves Grace’s blood above all others. If he chooses to stay, Ian risks losing his chance at divine forgiveness. But if he leaves Grace unprotected from the evil he’s hunted for over a century, he loses more than just his soul…

Grace Wallace left her job in the big city and took over being police chief after her father died. In the small, sleepy town of Clayton, Pennsylvania nothing truly bad has ever really happened. But with four deaths in as many weeks she knows something serious is going on. Grace is worried about the similarities between these new killings and those of a cannibalistic-vampire-wannabe she’s come across in her previous job. Also seeming to return from her past is Ian McHenry, a FBI agent whom she has worked with, been romanced by and is still devastatingly attracted to. Still plagued by scorching hot dreams of sex—and an enticing tingle at her neck—she isn’t sure she wants to work with him again and have her heart broken for a second time.

Ian craves to taste Grace again – the most delicious blood he’s ever sampled. The secret of being a vampire weighs on him, but he simply can’t resist Grace. Ian struggles not only to keep his real identity under wraps, but also to continue his four hundred year dedication to protecting humans against vampires who would harm them. As they look for this killer, Ian knows the truth Grace can’t or won’t see – it’s a vampire, one he knows personally — not some lame human who is deluded. Keeping that knowledge from Grace and his co-workers gets harder with every dream, touch and kiss he shares with Grace. When Ian realizes the vampire is watching Grace, that she’s in real danger from him, Ian decides to take the biggest risk ever and come clean to her.

The chemistry between Grace and Ian is really explosive. This book is a wonderful balance between hot romance and an intriguing paranormal/mystery style plot. The characters are very well drawn and their desire for each other is believable, I found myself really getting sucked into the story and enjoying myself thoroughly. There is plenty of conflict between them and they have personal demons to battle. Both Grace and Ian struggle with their shared past, the undeniability of their attraction and Ian’s secrets. I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it to paranormal and mystery readers alike.

As the girlfriend of a rock star, Deena Smith traveled the world in style. Now she’s moved on and enjoys a quiet life as a college instructor. When she discovers her rocker ex stole a notebook of her song lyrics and claimed them as his own, Deena is determined to do whatever it takes to get her notebook back, even if it means playing nice with her evil ex. But when her co-worker offers to help restore her work, little does she know her quiet little world will be turned upside down.

Sympathetic to Deena’s plight, Jack Karris offers to assist. He can’t stand the idea someone would wound her so deliberately. But despite the desire that sparks between them, Jack can’t wait to leave the small university town behind. Deena is his unwitting ticket to New York, and although she has zero interest in the project Jack proposes for her writing, he’s convinced she’ll also find a dream come true.

When the truth comes out, and Jack’s good intentions are revealed, Deena must decide is he the sincere man she’s come to trust, or is he just out to steal whatever he can… including her heart?

Deena Smith works in the English department and shares an office with sexy Jack Karris. One afternoon they’re listening to the radio while grading and Deena discovers her ex has plagiarized some lyrics of hers and used them as his own on his new album. Deena recalls she loaned him a notebook she bought in Paris, where she’d jotted new lyrics down. Retrieving her Paris Notebook becomes a priority with Deena along with spending more time with Jack, exploring further the smoldering desire burning between them.

A hot, sexy read, this is a good book. The chemistry between Deena and Jack is great and the plot drawing them to work together is solid and believable. With a cast of interesting secondary characters, family, friends and the rock star ex-lover, Ms. Harrison has built an interesting world full of vibrant people. The interactions between everyone shows depth and draws the reader in immediately – this cast of people in Deena and Jack’s life aren’t there as window dressing but are properly fleshed out, real people.

I found myself caught up in Deena’s reactions, her outrage at being plagiarized, her deepening infatuation with Jack and a rainbow of emotions. Similarly Jack is a strong hero, wanting to help Deena partly because of their mutual attraction, but just as much because it’s the right thing to do. This is an excellent book to curl up with over the weekend, just don’t be surprised if you loose a few hours in the process, lost in Ms. Harrison’s world and characters.

With parents who own a Vegas strip club, elementary school teacher Sara Piermont has always steered clear of kinky. Now she’s ready to sow her own wild oats and give in to the sexual fantasies taunting her. Her cousin’s bachelorette weekend at an all-inclusive dude ranch seems the perfect place to let her hair down. And Dane Dumen is the rugged cowboy she has set her sights on for a weekend of uninhibited passion.

Dane loves to walk on the wild side, and sexy Sarah is the perfect muse for a fantasy weekend filled with restraints and other naughty things. Though he’s never stepped over the line between a fling and commitment, Sarah proves to be a lure he can’t resist. Dane quickly finds he’s playing with fire and has to decide…rein in his heart or risk a permanent brand.

Sara’s first impression was that Dane is one sexy stud, and the horse isn’t too bad either. Yes, Dane is just what the doctor ordered. A sexy cowboy to help Sara experiment with all her kinky secrets for the weekend before starting her new life.

One word can explain Dane:  yum. Most women have had a fantasy about a raunchy cowboy at one time or another and I am sure he would look like Dane. Not only are the looks excellent, but he has a personality to match. Even if his and Sara’s relationship is a brief fling, it is clear that he cares about her well-being and happiness. He is the type of man any girl can see herself falling in love with; I know I did and I did not even get to meet the guy. Well at least not physically, because in my mind I was Sara and was begging to be tied to the bed.

The relationship development in this courtship was right on point. Both parties knew what they wanted and how they wanted to get it. It displayed the type of relationship you expect from two adults who know who they are. Even though Sara was stepping out of her comfort zone, she still had an air of confidence that helped to move these characters and the story forward. I was so enthralled by the story that it seemed as if I’d only just started reading it, and then it was over. I would definitely re-read this story and recommend it to anyone looking to saddle up with a hot cowboy.

Ambushed as he approaches an English estate, Lord Cort Dornogard trusts no one…least of all spirited Gaelic healer Alexis Fallon, who fascinates even as she defies him.

The magnificent Norse warrior is a threat to both Alexis’ heart and her cherished autonomy, for she harbors a secret about the ambush she cannot reveal. Honesty will cost her her freedom. But silence may cost her far more.

Cort harbors a damning secret of his own—one guaranteed to foment rebellion among his new subjects. The escalating attacks and accidents confirm that fear. His foes, both English and Norman, will exploit what he hides to destroy him, his dreams, and the woman he’s grown to love.

Snared in a web of castle intrigue, passion, and betrayal, Cort and Lexi are each far more than either suspects. Will they discover too late that truth is a two-edged sword?

Secrets tiptoe around while stifling good intentions strut around creating obstacles for love. But love, with its own unique tenacity, finds ways to bring joy and hope as it weaves its golden web around two strong personalities.

Alexis Fallon (Lexi), a creature of nature, a healer, and so much more, has an innate elegance that covers a lively spirit sparkling with mischief. She brings a unique type of buoyancy to Cherish the Knight with her joy and respect for life. But without freedom and time for solitude she becomes restive. She is not the usual heroine that one often sees is a historical set in eleventh century England. She is captivating with a sense of self-worth and a sense of humor that augment the many facets of her personality. She is not intimidated by the Normans that arrive with the bigger-than-life Cort Dornogard, the new owner of Avonly.

A tall beauty, with midnight hair, topaz eyes, and an unearthly air about her, Lexi tends the wounded Normans; befriends Dane, the simple-minded, fierce warrior friend of Cort’s. She seems to share a special connection with Dane and teaches him much about tending the wounded. He tends with a gentleness that belies his ferocity in battle. She gains the Normans’ respect and friendship and sets Cort’s libido on high alert.

Lexi comes to see Cort as one akin to Balder the Beautiful—god of spring, sunlight, and joy in Norse mythology. More than that she admires his sense of fairness, his loyalty, his work ethic, his talent and desire to build rather than destroy, his intuitiveness, and his sense of humor.

Athene, Lexi’s pet ferret and Fen, Cort’s wolfhound add a delightful touch and also give insight into Lexi and Cort’s journey toward trusting each other. Athene does stir up trouble that puts Lexi in a precarious spot in a towering rage.

Lord Graham, Lexi’s uncle and the former Earl of Avonly and his daughter Melissande are in an awkward position when Cort and his entourage arrive. How they deal with their loss of property and place of power creates two very different undercurrents that ripple along in all the chaos of building a great stone castle and setting the estate on track for even greater prosperity. How they help or hinder the melding together of Norman and English people to work together for the estate and all to prosper is never far from the surface.

Guy, Cort’s second-in-command and longtime friend, knows what Cort is thinking most of the time and is usually thinking the same way about strategies and temperaments of the people. They’ve survived many lethal situations with their almost telepathic connection with each other. Dane, a might warrior in battle, is a simple-minded, gentle soul by nature and comes to be very protective of his special friend Lexi.

Cherish the Knight has a multitude of intriguing characters that create sub-plots and side stories that enthrall. The antagonist is strong but a coward in a pinch, he is cunning, cruel, and intelligent enough to test the mettle of Cort and his men. He and his co-conspirator wreck havoc at Amiton (Avonly’s new name). While there are injuries and material damage in their doings, the greatest damage is the wedge of mistrust driven between Cort and Lexi, a mistrust that brings about earth-shattering results.

Diane O’key’s characters are brimming over with humanness; flaws, fears, hopes, goals, and life stories create a rich vicarious experience for the reader. The qualities of the heroine are not the usual for an eleventh-century woman. Her strength of character, sense of humor, sense of self-worth, and her ability to function with aplomb in a male-dominated society make her awesome and a worthy match for the “comely” hero with talents and accomplishments galore (can’t tell what they all are, it would give away a super good part of the story). Ms. O’Key tells a tantalizing story with descriptions that reveal time, place, emotions, and actions in such compelling style that the reader’s senses and emotions are swept into it all with pulse-pounding battles, despicable intrigues, secret fears and hopes, and, best of all, delightful foreplay and magical love scenes.

Cherish the Knight throbs with life. It captivates.

In the wrong hands, Jenna Thomas’s legacy could be a curse—in her mind it already is. As a child, a routine x-ray awakened an abnormality in Jenna’s DNA, giving her the ability to “call” creatures and take on their attributes. Labeled a freak since then, Jenna’s learned to keep everyone at a distance. But all that changes the day she saves a young boy from drowning and the story goes viral.

Nick Hawke, an off-duty policeman, witnesses part of the drama. Captivated by Jenna’s exotic beauty, he decides to investigate, not sure what to believe. Jenna puts his cynicism to the test—even as the attraction between them grows.

As word of her extraordinary rescue spreads, a dangerous man who will stop at nothing to control Jenna’s abilities draws near. With her feelings for Nick putting him in danger too, can Jenna risk everything to protect them both?

Will Jenna put her life on the line for a man she’s just met?

Jenna is a very easy character to like. Even though she knows she’s risking exposing her abilities to the world, she still saves a young boy from drowning. That alone says volumes about the type of woman she is, but I still would have liked to know more about her past and how she learned to control her abilities. Not only does Jenna have a good heart, but a bold one as well. I expected someone who has spent a good deal of her life alone and trying to hide to be much more timid. However, Jenna has quite a bit of spunk in her. Her display of attitude after chasing some bad guys off her property is especially entertaining.

Jenna’s unique powers make for a thought provoking story that left me wondering what would happen if such a thing were really possible. In Jenna’s case, she becomes a target for a very evil man, but I also couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if those powers resided in someone who didn’t have Jenna’s morals to begin with. The thought is truly terrifying.

Jenna and Nick have an intense connection from the moment they meet. The chemistry between them practically sizzles. Jenna hints that other people have been less than accepting about her powers, so I thought it a bit odd that she was so quick to not only trust Nick, but pursue a relationship with him. Their relationship moves a bit fast for my taste, but the connection between them seems genuine. I also enjoyed the twist added to their bond after they make love.

I thought the conflict with the man who was after Jenna was resolved a bit too quickly. Just as the story was picking up speed and the tension was mounting, everything ended. I just wasn’t ready for the story to be over yet. I also have to question why Jenna and Nick didn’t take more precautions for her safety in the first place. Nick and Jenna knew she was a target, yet they didn’t take much action to prevent another attack. I would have thought Nick would have at least insisted on moving her to a different location. Despite this issue, the plot flowed well and had a satisfying conclusion.

Affinity is a fun, fast paced story sure to get the blood flowing. Anyone looking for a good paranormal suspense filled with spicy romance should give Affinity a try.
