Handsome film star Thomas Buchanan is intrigued by the mysterious leading lady. Aiden, her adorable nine-year-old son, and her unwavering friend Sarah are a bonus for the reader. They breathe a joy of life into the story and shore up Amy’s courage and determination as she tries to find her way back to trusting again.

The foreshadowing, sometime adrenaline-pumping scary, lets the reader know Amy will have to face and conquer her fears before she can reclaim her life.

How nice it is when Thomas Buchanan comes into the picture. Little by little his style of courtship and caring made me want to hug his neck. He made my heart happy for Amy. However, she does create a challenge for him. Compelling reading!

The antagonists create some breath-holding encounters that make one’s heart pound and anger flare to a blaze. Envy, ego, and innate cruelty fuel much of their despicable actions.

Nancy E. Polin delivers a story that grabs one’s attention and holds on to it page after page. A few things are different in the author’s world than mine, like a car, a truck, and an SUV are very different vehicles to me, but I switched off the old editor brain and thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing, sweet, happy-ever-after love story.

Now the handsome Dutch-born businessman is making waves with single women all over town—including loony, post mistress Eva May Poole who’s in search of husband number three.

Losing a diamond ring down the drain could put a damper on anyone’s day, but when the plumber turns out to be a former boyfriend who stirs old feelings, the day starts looking brighter! That is, until he sees the ring and decides his former flame is engaged to be married.

Kate is the hardworking, dedicated co-owner of Kate’s Coffee Shop in Little Heron Shores, Florida. Her only living relative, other than her sister Violet, passed away last year leaving Kate and Violet her homestead, which has been in the family for four generations and was their childhood home. Kate loves the old place. It leads to the backwaters and it holds many wonderful memories for Kate, most of which include her childhood friend/boyfriend, Tappe. Violet, however, doesn’t seem to have fond memories of anyone or anything. She wants Kate to sell.

Tappe is recently back from the Netherlands after a failed marriage, and he looks better than ever. He’s living and working at the nearby marina, but he would much rather buy the old homestead that Violet is so keen on selling. The fly in the ointment keeping everyone’s dreams at bay is a girl named Eva May, who you may find yourself laughing at the whole time you’re hating her.

Most of this story has a comfortable flair—friends, love, quirky people, and a hometown with old-fashioned character, but there were a few confusing instances in the story where character traits turned topsy-turvy. For example, Melanie, Kate’s best friend and business partner, has given the reader reason to believe she is hopeful Kate and Tappe might reconnect, yet when Tappe asks to see Kate, Melanie turns into an over-protective grouch and balks at even giving Kate a message from him. Even odder is Kate’s behavior when she shows no interest in even saying hello to Tappe even though their friendship has been rekindled. I was also disappointed to find a few editing errors beginning on the very first page with the word “facet” instead of “faucet.” Most glitches, however, were simply missing or omitted words.

This is a quick, clean read, especially fun around Valentine’s Day given its candy hearts theme. Readers who like romance and old friendships will settle in nicely with this cute story!

Katy Werling’s parents think she’s spending the night with a friend, unaware their child is lying severely injured at the bottom of a ravine. A crisis in their marriage consumes them, preventing them from focusing on anything other than their crumbling lives.

Neighboring families, all facing their own catastrophes, are equally oblivious to a black dog’s attempt to capture their attention.

Will any of them look past their individual struggles to discover the dog’s urgent message and save the child?

It all started because of the dog. Katy has been having bad dreams and she knows in her dream that a big black dog saves her. When her mother almost hits the dog coming home from school, Katy talks to it and wants to adopt it. Her father says no but mom says yes. Since Katy is going away for the weekend, her father puts the dog outside hoping it will move on. Doing that saves Katy’s life…

Ms. Coley writes good solid stories of relationships, expectations, and life and death. The black dog almost has to be a ghost, but it’s a real dog in this story. Somehow she talks you into believing it.

Katy decides to go home instead of going with her girlfriend’s family to the lake. She wants to be with her new dog. When she hears a dog barking, she thinks it might be Moe, so she takes the path to the ravine. When she loses her balance on the wet leaves, she falls. It hurt but she’ll just get back up to the top of the path and go home. No, she won’t. She has a broken leg and can’t move at all. The only one who hears her is the dog.

There’s family trauma all through the neighborhood. Katy’s mother finds out her husband is making a date with one of his students. The veteran in the neighborhood gets mad at his wife and she leaves him. The old couple on the other side are disrupted by the wife’s heart attack. As everyone tries to deal with their problems, no one pays attention to the black dog that tries to get them to follow him.

This is more a tale of relationships and life history than it is the tale of a lost girl. Each situation was unique and they had to work their problems their own way. It isn’t until the weekend is almost over that they realize the child got lost on the way home and is missing.

There were some over-the-top incidents that were a bit unbelievable but they made the story exciting. This story demonstrates that for every action, there’s a reaction. Reading this story made me examine my life. Maybe it will do the same to you.

I love the friends to possible lovers trope. Love it. This book didn’t disappoint. The characters are interesting and I liked reading about them. Ms. Durand spun a good tale. I got emotionally involved right away and hoped the characters would get together. For a short book, this delivers the heat, too. Whew!!

One thing that took me out of the story was the use of independent body parts. It was a tad jarring when a character’s hand seemed to move independently of the rest of him or her. That said, I still liked the book and I’m glad I got to read it.

Mel is easy to relate to–she’s had a rough patch and well, she wants to try again in dating. Who hasn’t been there? Then there’s Adam. I loved the description of him. I wanted to lick him, too. He’s sweet and perfect for her.

As if he doesn’t have enough to handle between running outlaws out of Cheyenne, keeping his brothers out of trouble, and avenging his father’s death, Sheriff Sawyer McCade’s meddling mother just dumped a mysterious mail-order bride on his doorstep. One woman can be more trouble than a band of renegades, and while this one has him all stirred up, he’d rather get to the bottom of the story she isn’t telling.

Rose Parker had it all—until a web of danger and deceit sends her running to Cheyenne posing as a mail-order bride. Escaping the evils of New York seems sensible until she meets the unsuspecting sheriff who didn’t ask for her, has no intention of marrying her, and won’t rest until he uncovers her secret and sends her back home.

Compliments to Kim Turner on a captivating first book to a series. Sawyer’s Rose, filled with conflicts tripping over each other, has characters that grab one’s attention, each in his or her own unique way and leaves a lasting impression.

The testosterone charged conflicts nearly suck all the air out of the room at times. The McCade men do NOT do anything in halfway measures—be it fighting, working, loving, or whatever.

Sawyer, the sheriff and the oldest of the Macade men, rides herd on his brothers as well as can be expected with four strong-minded males involved. Strong words and fists enter into their “discussions” from time to time. His mother, Dodge, is another thing all together. That dear woman is a force to be reckoned with. She tells Sawyer to go pick up his mail-order bride that is coming in on the train—the story behind this gets untangled bit by piece as the plot unfolds.

Rose Parker, once off the train, knows she is treading on unfamiliar territory, but she perseveres. Raised a pampered, protected daughter, she could have fallen apart at the challenges she faces. However, she holds her own and then some with whatever or whomever has to be dealt with, man or beast. No way is she going back to what she escaped in New York. She is a heroine to love.

The fight scenes come to life with the adrenaline-racing and the feelings of “whatever-it-takes” ruling the action. Whether it’s a fight between brothers, a fight in the bar with drunks and outlaws, or a battle with long-time enemy Benton and his crews, the action is always full steam ahead.

The love scenes are just as intense, but are oh so breathtakingly satisfying—gentle, sweet ecstasy that makes one sigh with pleasure—with spice but nice.

A little more research would have been good to be sure of the difference in a cow, a calf, a yearling; rein and reign; bawl and bay. And, the old English teacher will sigh and say there’s “I” used for the object pronoun again instead of “me.” But I zoomed over these things with little hesitation because I needed to know what the characters would do next. I’m looking forward to the coming stories of the McCades.

Dare they set aside business for one night of pleasure?

Misty works in the wedding business and is at a publicity event when the photographer catches her eye – her high-school crush, Adam. Adam can hardly believe his luck that his fantasy-woman from high school is at the huge wedding function and seemingly unattached. He’s not going to let this perfect opportunity pass him by. Not this time.

This is a sexy, fun, lighthearted romance. I found myself laughing aloud at many of the double entendres. I liked how Adam in particular made his intentions clear right from the start – that he felt he’d let Misty slip away in high school and had no intention of doing the same thing this time around. Misty, in contrast, seemed to doubt herself a lot and that was a little disappointing to me. While I loved her raunchy, sexy thoughts, she didn’t initially have the self-confidence to either speak the thoughts aloud, nor take the initiative in their physical relationship. This is a change from many of the more modern romance heroines – who usually know exactly what they want and own their sexuality. I felt this made Misty come across as both more realistic but also not as strong as I usually enjoy characters to be.

The sex scene is deliciously descriptive and quite intense. I was grateful we’d been given a good and – to my mind at least – clear understanding of Adam’s character. His intentions were good and he truly loved Misty. Without this knowledge some of his actions might have seemed slightly over the top – but I think after all the champagne Misty drank and Adam’s deep love of all things photography his actions balance out for the better. While there’s plenty of naughty thoughts flying around and some seriously steamy sex, the romance and emotional connection between Adam and Misty seemed real and solid to me.

I found this to be an enjoyable, fun and sexy Valentine’s Day story, one that was lovely to read. I’ll happily read more books by this author.

Trust broken can never be regained, or can it?

Love without trust makes the heart cry.

The joy of life seen in Elisabeth Barrows at the beginning of the story brings a smile. She bubbles with mischief and adventure.

Wiser and supportive of her proper sister Sophia, who also had her heart crushed at the same house party two years ago, Elisabeth goes by the rules.

They, like most of the rest of the elite in the Regency Age, work hard to entertain themselves, to maintain their standing in a gossipy society, preen, and position themselves in the best place possible to acquire a suitable mate – hard, tedious work at times.

The Duke of Roderick and Captain Mark Estermire return home after a two year stint of doing government business for the reigning regent. They find the two women who haunted their dreams for the last two years are busy with their friends doing the socially proper activities: Almacks, riding in the park to see and be seen, attending the proper social affairs, and offering only cool politeness to them.

They need strategy, much like a battle plan, to get back into the good graces of the ladies they love. Mark has better luck than the Duke does. Elisabeth can’t bring herself to forgive “The Duke.” She longs for her Richard. The conflicts abound plus a villain enters the fray in the person of Viscount Teasdale.

I enjoyed the story, though it is predictable and loses momentum at times with the same activities taking place. However, there are some truly humorous, entertaining incidents. I must admit, I’ve never read about betting on a caterpillar.

The many secondary characters are around. For the most part, they just help set the scene for important events that propel the main characters along to their goals.

Tutored by a Duke gives the reader a vicarious adventure into the Regency Age with lots of details about the uniqueness of that age being woven in.

Etienne has come home suddenly to his apartment in France only to discover his sister has swapped her living arrangements for a month. Instead, Genevieve is staying in his sister’s room, and neither of them are particularly happy about it. Can they each find love in the country most renown for it?

I found this to be a funny and lovely story. While Etienne is good at languages he’s not yet learned much English. And Genevieve – despite choosing to stay for a month in France has almost no French skills at all. So their initial interactions were funny and difficult to say the least! Initially I thought the fact Etienne and Genevieve struggled to communicate would frustrate me, but I found it actually made the story all the more sweet. The author did an amazing job of showing me how they interacted and learned to communicate together and keep it interesting and fresh at the same time. Of course there were small issues when they didn’t understand each other properly, or when someone else tried to interpret for them and there were miscommunications, but this just added to the story.

The sex was both steamy and sweet. I found the lack of verbal communication helped keep a sort of elemental understanding between Etienne and Genevieve. They had to show through actions, kisses, touches and simple words what they wanted and where their emotions and desires were at. Cutting out so much of the verbal sparring and posturing that happens so regularly really kept this story clean and simple. And I found I really thoroughly enjoyed it.

I found this story different and lovely. Sweet but still erotic and enticing, this was a very different kind of story and I really enjoyed it. Recommended.

My expectation was of a typical paranormal. The main characters are being haunted, threatened by unseen forces who want their death for some reason and they find a way to eventually save themselves. This book showed the other side to the haunting that I don’t normally get to experience in a book. I liked it. It was different. With her big brown eyes and quirky sense of humor, Renata stirs feelings he thought long dead.

As the blizzard rages, the candy hearts predict love. Can Valentine’s Day work its magic between them?

Renata is taking refuge in her best friend’s cottage – using it as a much needed escape for a few days. Unfortunately, Noah had also been allowed use the cottage and Renata is loathe to give up her weekend just because some guy happened to be there as well. Can she chill out when they’re both snowed in together?

This is an interesting “snowbound” style book. I found both Renata and Noah’s characters to be layered and complex, which was a big help since the book really did center around them with very little supporting cast. I found the “two steps forward one step back” style of the story a little frustrating at times. While it was perfectly understandable both Noah and Renata were a little prickly – they both have pasts and in their own way were running from their lives and themselves – after the first few times of one of them cutting off or shutting down on the other it got a bit repetitive. It was clear they were both interested in each other, and while Noah was prickly and secretive and Renata had been burned in the past they seemed to run very hot/cold with each other and this sent plenty of mixed signals – to each other but also to me as a reader.

Readers who like a slower pace with plenty of give-and-take between their hero and heroine should find this to be a good read. I thought there was a good length to the “getting to know you” period between Noah and Renata and they each shared plenty of themselves and their history while the attraction grew steadily between them. The only real conflict was the sometimes prickly interactions between them when one or the other closed off a bit emotionally. The plot was very character-centric – more than the first half of the book revolved around them learning about each other while snowed into the cabin. There was also only the one sex scene, so readers wanting a bit more spice might find this slower pace and less physical style of romance a bit slow. I personally found it satisfying, but not overly descriptive so I feel it shouldn’t be too much for most sweeter styled romance readers.

Overall I really enjoyed this story. For the most part I liked both Renata and Noah’s characters and while I got a little frustrated with them both a time or two it was a real pleasure to read about them finding love together and filing the empty place in each other’s lives.
