They have never been close, but Skylar can’t turn her back on her nor can she ignore the killer’s threat. While the way she meets Dirk seems a little contrived, it doesn’t matter because it gets the right people together to set things up for action and for love to get in full swing.

Bad memories of the past make Dirk and Skylar both afraid to commit to a relationship. How they struggle with inner conflicts, while working to keep Skylar alive and find ten million dollars flitting from place to place in cyber space kept me turning pages.

This is one in the Wounded SEAL Trilogy but stands by itself beautifully. However, it does make me want to read the other books in the series. Coop, Dirk’s brother, has the love of his life and a baby girl. Now I’m betting Matt, Dirk’s other brother, gets his own story that just might include the irrepressible Carrie. GOOD reading!

The setting details flowed with the story and gave hints of visuals such as ‘the late summer sun low in the west was setting’, and such descriptive and thought provoking details with word description as ‘black velvet sky overhead’.

The plot is interesting and kept my attention. It was just the right amount of high school life, romance and action. Elle is a believable character and her sweet personality is one that won me over. Elle is a senior in high school living a normal teen life until she is approached by Pyro. Tagas is there to save her and also help her fulfill training to become a demon hunter. While her friends are going off to college Elle knows that her future now is different than those of her friends. I enjoyed the relationship between Elle and Brandon McGovern. Brandon cares about Elle and makes plans to keep in touch with Elle while away at college. After a party things change and Elle comes in contact with demon Cascadia. The training Elle has received has come in handy. Elle has grown stronger in strength and in knowledge. She is able to hold her own. Elle is young and she is also a character that I admire. Her home life may not be the best and now she knows her purpose is to be a demon hunter; she embraces that she is different.

With a personal vow to become the best demon hunter and make all demons suffer I am excited and looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.

The physical struggle is not easy, but the psychological struggle is incredibly hard. The reader’s heart aches for her.

Woven into the story is the amazing “Belle Harbor Mafia” Shay’s unfailing, true friends, and the Yo-Yo email support group that Shay belongs to, all of whom have had cancer.

A pithy part of the story is the pragmatic, sensible sayings of Shay’s deceased mother. They impact Shay’s thoughts and actions. Some give her hope and courage and others pretty much tell her to put on her big girl panties, “screw her courage to the sticking point” and claim what she so desperately wants while she can. Carol Owen’s writing flows smoothly as it deals with, not up-roaring conflicts, but with the inner conflicts that almost cripple at times and threaten to deprive the characters of their joy for life.

Heartfelt is a great title for this very human story.

His wife is vastly overweight and doesn’t go out, not even to the third marriage of their spoiled daughter, Ruby. Both women look at Charlie more as an open checkbook, than as someone to love. The only member of his family to love him had been his son Tommy, but this wonderful person was no longer of this world.

The story kept me reading. Charlie is a wonderful character and the story is shown from inside his head, his thoughts, his memories, his headaches, his feeling that he is going mad. Does he commit murder – and does he remember what he has done during his memory blackouts? I loved beginning, middle and ending of the book, although I won’t give a spoiler, it is well worth reading to the last page.

Well written with no problems of flow, grammar or spelling. Demaree Iles has written a comprehensive murder  mystery book which made me understand why murder might be – perhaps not a good idea – but acceptable in some cases.

Unfortunately Justine is kidnapped. Will Dan be able to save his wife and still keep his unlawful past a secret?

From the very beginning this book had my attention. To discover early on that the kidnappers know Justine personally only made my suspense greater. The timely flash backs give a back story of Justine and Dan’s past and also adds dimension to the storyline. The author timed the flashbacks at the appropriate time and gave enough suspense to keep me entertained and still had my interest on how the story would unfold. True enough I had a feeling that Justine would be saved, but boy were there many twists that the author complied to make this a book that I enjoyed and would recommend to any reader that is looking for a good suspenseful read.

I enjoyed the writing style. How the novel flowed was perfect. The plot was told with true talent. This is a book that you can’t judge by the cover. The blurb is interesting enough but the cover lead me to think the context would be something totally different.

The bad guys were truly bad. They devised a plan and I guess with all bad intentions they thought they would actually get away with it. Dan is a man of determination. He is a strong officer with attractive features. A man that is adamant on upholding the law and has a deep concern about public safety. He was a favorable character to read about. He is a man with faults but inspire to do right. Justine is a professional woman and as with any relationship she balances work and marriage as best she can. With the turn of events of an unexpected pregnancy and the kidnapping Dan and Justine’s marriage is put to the test. This is a well written, well thought out story a reader of suspense and action wouldn’t want to miss out on.

One early chapter gives the entire long ago backstory of the main character’s original meeting (dialogue and all) and his subsequent relationship with Mimi via a counseling session with his friend and therapist, making this feel more like an extra-long synopsis than a novel.

Finding Mimi is a quick easy read with a hint of mystery, and you’ll not find a single typo or misused word. It might be the perfect novella to take along on your next flight or quiet getaway.

The book is multi-layered with intricate plots, including a ghost and a secondary story dealing with the main characters and how their relationship will turn out. This is initially the main plot until Tyler’s friend makes their presence known. That ghost wasn’t going to be ignored for sure. In a neat twist, that doesn’t give the story away, the ghost is a catalyst to bringing Emily and Brett together.

Emily and Brett have a past. The chemistry, attraction and beginnings of love were there but the timing couldn’t have been worse. Without the paranormal element, this book would be counted among the “secret baby” tropes. When Brett learns that Emily hid his son from him, he’s understandably livid. Emily realizes that she can’t hide from him anymore and he deserves to know his son more.

The story starts from there and the author, held back some… meaning not all was revealed in the beginning and that was a good thing. It kept me on my toes wanting to know more and more and curious as to how and when the author would include the paranormal element. She didn’t disappoint.

The romance and the attraction was there regardless of Brett still being angry with her. The book is a great romance with a hint of mystery regarding the ghost.

With every chapter I read I got to know the characters more and saw their relationship develop as chemistry and passion collided. Perfect combo and an enjoyable read.

Miranda, the bluestocking sister, is besotted with him—how to stay her friend and not get trapped into marriage is tricky business. Amy, usually so independent, adventurous, fun-loving and smiling, has become tired, worried, sad, sick, and weepy. Moreover, she declares “all men are liars” not to be trusted. Talk about a tangled web to unravel—entertaining reading indeed. Bridget, the maid, is another issue. WOMEN!

This is the first book in the series and though the book had a bit of a cliffhanger. Also, the story involves a pedophile so for readers with a trigger for missing children should be aware before picking up this book.

Amanda and Alex are attracted to each other but her being a witch and him a hunter put a no-going-back full stop to the relationship, or so they thought. The book opens with them meeting after having gone separate ways. The sparks were flying off the page. It was easy to see that when they finally give into the sizzle it’s going to be epic! Having said that, it never really gets to the hot point for the reader in this book, maybe the next. As mentioned, this book doesn’t conclude Alex and Amanda’s story so, I have to assume I’ll see them again.

The background info on their relationship was very cleverly integrated into the book without making me forget about the main plot. The author handled the multiple plots very well. It was easy to read and understand. Also, the characters were very detailed and different. Amanda is honest to a fault and Alex is a bit macho but they balance each other well.

Magic, lost love, and new beginnings. Karma is a good start to this new series. It grabbed this reader’s attention and has me anxious to see where the story goes next.

This is a really interesting book that captured my attention in the first few pages and didn’t let go. I haven’t read anything previously by this author and that is certainly my loss. Despite some old-fashioned language (which was a delightful surprise and lent the book an air of authenticity seeing as the time period is the 1920s) I caught on to almost everything very quickly and soon found myself completely involved in the story and Amos and Sarah in particular. The author has clearly gone to a lot of work and effort to make the setting and backdrop of her world authentic – like comments on how their brand new Oldsmobile was Amos’ pride and joy and Sarah had only just been “allowed” to drive it alone recently, or how they called a tape measure a “tape rule”, small things like this which made me pause, but I could quickly and easily understand what it meant. This is one of those few times jarring me during reading is welcome – it reminded me this story was set in the past and really gave it an air of a old-style mystery and greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

I believe that this is not the first book with Amos and Sarah Darcy in it. Their relationship is already solidly formed and they are married and share a child. It’s clear they’ve been doing their detective work for quite some time. Despite this I entered this book cold (having never read anything by this author or about these characters before) and at no stage did I feel like I was left behind or lacking in back story. I admit to being incredibly curious about Amos and Sarah – I’d love to read more work about them when they first met, or the start of their relationship – but this actually proves to me just how well the story is written. I’m curious, wanting to know more. I’m not feeling as if I’ve been dropped in the middle of a story and world I don’t comprehend, it’s not a lost feeling – just an excitement to find a new author’s voice and characters I really enjoy. And that was a great pleasure for me.

While the plot and mystery was interesting, it wasn’t overly complex. There was a small hint of the occult/paranormal in that the murder had a few ritualistic items surrounding it. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and found myself picking up the clues as the plot progressed. Readers who like deeply complex, multi-layered plots might find this one a bit light, but I personally found it satisfying when coupled with the interesting characters, the older style of background (the older speech patterns, older investigative patterns etc) and found this short story quite engaging and satisfying. While the love and affection between Amos and Sarah is obvious, they’re a well-settled character and the time setting doesn’t lend itself to any outrageous, outward shows of that love and affection. I’d happily recommend this story to my friends and just as easily my mother or grandmother. It’s a timeless classic style of mystery and an author I certainly plan to keep an eye out for. Recommended.
