Returning to Laguna Beach after four tours in the Middle East, Christian Wolfe leaves the military behind and buys a wine bar, vowing to keep his life simple. He fights to keep his devastating PTSD a secret and refuses to burden anyone else with his baggage. When stunning Kelly Prescott and her red stilettos saunter into town, she drives him past the bonds of his self-control. Successful in her father’s stuffy law firm, Kelly’s too compassionate to survive in the cutthroat world of corporate litigation. Leaving behind both family and courtroom drama, she moves to Laguna to become general counsel for a nonprofit veterans’ organization. She didn’t bargain on a gorgeous modern-day Heathcliff, and in Christian, she sees another kind of challenge—one she can’t resist.

I had a book to read and I’m glad I picked this one.

This was my first Claire Marti novel. I noticed it is book three in the Finding Forever in Laguna series. The fact that I didn’t read the first two always makes me nervous that I’m going to feel like I am missing something but let me reassure you that isn’t the case. I read this book in one sitting and never felt left out, lost or confused. The only feeling I felt was interest in reading the previous books. The fact that I read this in one sitting demonstrates that it was a quick read for me.

The heroine, Kelly, was a beautiful woman all around who I found easy to respect. She was well matched with the hero, Christian. Together they made an adorable couple with a splash of spice. Each had their own internal conflicts to overcome with the support of their friends and eventually each other. Their relationship was two steps forward and three steps back. I could feel the tension and attraction between them and I was more than ready to stop the back stepping and just move forward. Fortunately the writing style was skilled enough to keep my interest in the back stepping parts otherwise I’d have gotten in my car to go to Hobby Lobby.

I have to comment about the plot surrounding Kelly working for her father’s law firm and her reasons for leaving. I knew this was a contemporary romance vs. a suspense romance but that plot thread easily could have been so much more. I was greatly disappointed that nothing evolved from her findings. Christian could have been the perfect hero to come to her rescue. Kelly saved the incriminating evidence for what? I felt like a few chapters were edited out. However, chapter 21 it’s all resolved. I appreciate a book that provides closure and no loose threads but I felt deprived from the thicker plot possibilities.

Overall it was an entertaining read. I love how Kelly and Christian made me laugh a few times. I enjoyed watching them fall in love. Sunset in Laguna was an easy feel good read. I know Christian is going on my book boyfriend list. I’d like to personally thank him for making this read fantastic.

After an abusive childhood and a bad marriage, Laura Katz finally finds a home, stability…and possibly love. But her blissful refuge as nanny on the Meadowlark Ranch, miles from Flagstaff, shatters when her ex is released from prison, determined to reclaim her.

Randy Silva, the ranch’s foreman, has dreams of his own ranch, but a nasty land grab is underway. While the battle escalates, Laura steals his heart, but dangerous outsiders and a criminal ex-husband stand in their way. Randy’s in a perilous fight for his land and the woman he wants by his side.

Stakes are high, as the attacks on Randy and his ranch draw blood. While the vengeful ex-husband stalks Laura, a mob-backed land developer teams with a desperate gambler. Randy can’t be sure where the next attack will come from–or who will be caught in the crossfire.

I certainly was entertained by this edge of your seat romantic suspense. I can’t say it was a totally unpredictable plot but I can say it was absolutely interesting.

The Deep Well of Love and Murder was book 5 in The Love and Murder Series. If you didn’t read the previous four books then don’t worry about it. I didn’t read them and I felt like this book was able to stand on it’s own.

The cast of characters were relatable and I am curious to go back and read the previous books since I’d like to know more about them. Another reason I’d like to read the previous books in this series is because I appreciated the author, Brenda Whiteside’s, writing style. I liked how it flowed from beginning to end. The story provoked a wide mix of emotions from me.

The heroine, Laura Katz has overcome a troubled past only for it to come back to stir up trouble for her new found romance with Randy Silva. Randy had serious concerns over keeping his ranch safe from a desperate land developer. Together they have so much suspense and drama going on around them that I couldn’t put the book down. I had complete faith in Randy to solve all the issues going on between and around them. It was easy for me to fall in love with Randy.

This was a book that I’d recommend without hesitation. The romance was spicy, the suspense was gripping and the entertainment was gratifying.

Engrossed in her passion for cataloging antiques in an old home, Liz Baxter encounters the ghost of the original owner. However, Rance Livingston doesn’t believe he’s a ghost. He claims it’s 1901, and she’s his long-lost wife. The harder she tries to convince him she’s not, the more she starts to wish she was.

Rance can’t explain how the woman wearing strange clothes got into his house, or why she insists it’s 2018, but he’s convinced his and Beth’s love was so strong, her spirit would have found a way home to him. He doesn’t care about what happens in the future. He just wants Liz to realize she’s his Beth. His wife.

Through trial and errors and with a love that grows stronger with every encounter, Liz and Rance fight for what they believe will be the happy-ever-after—the other deserves, but will that mean they can be together?

Liz and Rance are soul mates. Trouble is Rance lived one hundred years ago so how do they make this work?

A lovely blend of past and present with not only the problem of how to make their love work (if at all possible) but how to save Rance’s homestead from his heirs who want to sell it for commercial use to make a lot of money.

This is a ghost story with a difference, Rance’s wife died in exactly the same spot that Liz’s parents died when she was a child. He’c convinced his wife is alive and that Liz is her. Liz believes she could be a reincarnation but this doesn’t help solve the love dilemma.

Liz can only see Rance in his dead wife’s mirror while he can only see her inside the house. The mirror is also needed so they can hear one another. Liz must solve the problem of keeping Rance’s ranch intact, but her own misty past interferes with her research.

At first I didn’t think I’d like this book but the more I read, the more I got to like it. For one thing, who is the ghost? Rance who lives a perfectly normal life at his ranch, grieving for his wife. Or Liz whose job is to value the antiques at the ranch and who sees Race as a ghost.

Can they solve this dilemma or will they have to go their own separate ways? Good book, an enjoyable read.

After her car breaks down, Beth Kennedy is forced to stay in Florida, the target of Hurricane Sabrina. She stocks up supplies, boards up windows, and hunkers down to wait out the storm, but her plan unravels when she witnesses a car accident. Risking her life, she braves the winds to save the driver. Just when she believes they are safe, she finds out the man she saved could possibly be more dangerous than the severe weather.

Donovan Goldwyn only wanted to hide from the police, but the hurricane shoved his car into a tree. Now he’s trapped with a beautiful woman while the evidence that can prove his innocence to a brutal crime is out there for anyone to find.

As Hurricane Sabrina wreaks havoc, Beth has no other choice but to trust Donovan to stay alive. But will she survive, or will she become another hurricane crime?

Beth hadn’t planned on weathering out the worst Category 5 hurricane to hit Florida in years, but Sabrina was bearing down and Beth’s car broke down, stranding her at home. With no family to help her out Beth decided to make the most of her bad situation. When a car crashed just a few doors down from her, Beth braved the hurricane and rescued the driver, bringing him back to her home and relative safety. Only the man she rescued isn’t at all what she expected. Can they both survive the storm?

I thought this was an interesting and fast-paced short story. I loved how there were pretty much three main characters to it – Beth, Donovan and Hurricane Sabrina. The author clearly enjoyed making the enormous storm not only have a real part to play in the story but I feel they relished bringing the fierceness and intensity of the Hurricane practically to life. I thoroughly enjoyed the tension of the mystery and felt it worked well hand-in-hand with the overall tension the Hurricane itself brought to the overall story. I have to admit I felt Beth was a little too naïve and trusting. I understand why she couldn’t just open the door and run away – or call the police for help – but that was the only part of the plot that didn’t really connect well with me.

Both Beth and Donovan were interesting characters and kept my attention. Coupled with the interesting mystery plot I had no problems reading this whole story eagerly in one sitting. Towards the end of the story there are a few steamy kisses and one sex scene where the bedroom door is very firmly closed. While I felt the romance between Beth and Donovan felt a little rushed I have to admit that being trapped in a Hurricane and genuinely feeling as if their deaths were imminent went a long way to convincing me the characters found themselves in an extraordinary situation.

With a wonderful happy ending and an interesting plot I found this to be a great short story and one I enjoyed reading. Fast paced and snappy I think this should appeal to a wide range of readers.

Horse trainer Stone Dempsey’s life is all about the ride—with horses and women. He uses his equine talents to impress the country club set and earn money for Smoky Mountain Reining Horses. When his drug-addicted sister deposits her sick baby on his doorstep, he’s suddenly saddled with real responsibility.

Dr. Emmersyn Cole’s goal of starting a practice in her favorite place on earth is finally coming to fruition and she is not going to be sidetracked. Everything is going great until Stone swaggers into her life, half-dressed with a smile that could melt her insides. She’s determined to keep her distance…until he rushes into her grandfather’s home, clutching a feverish baby, terrified and vulnerable, and her heart’s hard shell begins to crack.

In only a few short weeks, Stone’s wayward heart suddenly relies on two women—one who needs him—and one that he might not be able to live without.

Stone can’t help but be attracted to pretty women, but he’s a little gun-shy when it comes to chasing after the delectable Dr. Emmy – his boss’s grand-daughter. Emmy knows full well that while Stone was an exceptional horse trainer, genuinely one of the best, but his personal reputation was that he’d chase pretty much anything pretty in a skirt. And while Stone might make her mouth dry and her knees weak, Emmy doesn’t want her heart broken. Can they each resist the temptation of the other?

I found this to be a fun and wonderfully warm-hearted cowboy style story. Despite his hound-dog ways, Stone was written in a light and cheerful manner and I found myself instantly warming to his character. Being fairly confident that he’d fall head over heels for Emmy just made his eventual blind-siding even more wonderful to read. I also really enjoyed Emmy’s character – I found her strong and relatable and while understandably cautious over Stone’s philandering reputation she didn’t get her knickers in a twist over it or hold his previous conquests over his head in a way I often find unbearable in a heroine. They each went into the eventual relationship with their eyes open and with open hearts and this was just lovely to read and experience with them both.

This has all the elements of a really good romance story to my mind: two strong and capable characters, a few small bumps along the road with easily-addressed misconceptions, a sick little baby and a small-town, cowboy style community with plenty of vibrant and interesting secondary characters. Emmy and Stone become intimate from around half-way in the story. Readers should be aware that there are some sizzling love-making scenes that might make more traditional “doors-closed” readers a little wary. But while the scenes are graphic I found them well-written, tasteful and not too over-the-top.

While I can understand some readers might find this story formulaic and “been there done that” I personally would urge most readers to give this book a chance. While sure, I could write out a dot-point of how the story progresses and it would sound tried-and-true – and possibly like a dozen similar stories – the joy I found from this really comes from the characters, their interactions and a warmth from the familiarity of it all. This is like eating your favourite comfort-food-dinner for the thousandth time, while it might at a glance seem similar to dozens of other meals, it still leaves you happy, warm and feeling deeply satisfied.

A solid read with enjoyable characters, a great plot and some steamy romance to keep you eagerly turning the pages I found this to be a great read. Recommended.

Autumn Hartley purchases Allen Hall at a steal, but the northern lass gets far more than a beautiful plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. The house comes complete with its own ghost, a handsome and charming Civil War General—for the Confederacy. The stage is set for another civil conflict.

John Sibley Allen died in battle from a wound in the back, the bullet fired by the turncoat, Beauregard Dudley. The traitor’s reincarnation is Autumn the Interloper’s first dinner guest. Sib bedevils her date and annoys her with fleeting, phantom touches, certain he can frighten her away as he did previous purchasers. As time marches on, her resident ghost becomes more appealing while her suitor, Beau, pales in comparison. Autumn finds her ability to love didn’t perish in the divorce that sent her south seeking a fresh start.

After over a century in the hereafter, Sib discovers he is falling for none other than the feisty Yankee girl, but what future could a modern woman and an old-fashioned ghost possibly hope for?

Why has this plantation changed hands so many times? It’s said to be haunted but Autumn doesn’t believe in ghosts. General John Sibley Allen or Sib, is about to prove her wrong. The house was his at the time of the civil war and he has haunted it ever since. Imagine his annoyance when Autumn becomes friends with Thomas Dudley. Thomas is the descendant of Beauregard Dudley — the man who killed Sib.

Autumn and Sib become close, and strangely he becomes more visible the more she believes in him. The tale runs smoothly with Sib providing the background to the plantation and Autumn gradually sliding from disbelief and anger to acceptance and companionship. The major spikes in the story come from Autumn’s friendship with Thomas Dudley who Sib absolutely hates.

Nice read. This story is amusing, a pleasant read for an afternoon indoors.

I am sitting here thinking about what I want to say. I recently ordered custom cookies for my son’s graduation party to give as party favors. They looked amazing. I was so proud to pass them out. Later that night after everyone left I couldn’t wait to eat one. The frosting was delicious. The cookie wasn’t what I expected. It was hard and tasted more like flour. Yet, I ate the whole cookie. Somehow this book, Lady of Steel, reminds me of that experience. The synopsis was the frosting and the book was the cookie. The story was mostly enjoyable, pretty much like the cookie was. Did I eat another cookie the next day? Unfortunately, yes I did. I paid a lot of money for those cookies. It took me three days to read this story. I picked the book up each day with the same enthusiasm as I did when I picked up another cookie thinking that maybe this one would taste better. I can at least say that the cookie and the book were consistent. They both gave me some short term pleasure.

I would like to point out that if you missed the heat rating then here is your warning, it’s hot by page six. This scene is the whole premise for the entire plot. Twenty eight chapters, three hundred and seventeen pages with an epilogue all because of this one scene. The good news is that the story was written well. My attention was certainly caught as I was introduced to the main characters, Nicola, the heroine and Fawkes, the hero. She definitely did not live an easy life. Neither did the hero, Fawkes. They each had their own hardships to overcome as it’s stated in the synopsis. Nicola had a horrible marriage which made me feel empathy for her. Fawke’s life was altered by the hardships and cruelties of war. The best part of the story for me were the secrets, lies and dangerous threats. Lady of Steel was an interesting read for me as I connected with the well-developed characters as they navigated through the various plot twists.

The one flaw for me (which would be the hard, flour tasting cookie part) was the repetitiousness between the hero and heroine. I understood how they felt and what they thought. I did not need to read it to the point of the story going stagnate. I did eventually just skim over those paragraphs. I admit that I also skimmed over the very detailed love scenes. It was clear they had chemistry without reading those intimate moments.

In conclusion, it’s safe to say that there is a chance I’d recommend this book to a friend. I was intrigued enough to see how it ended and I was happy that there weren’t any loose threads. That left me ultimately satisfied.

The daughter of a powerful British businessman, Teresa Medici Staffordshire leads her life as Tess Medici to avoid men out to please her father. Then she meets Maximilian, a sexy uptight CEO. From the moment he unleashes his expert fingers on her skin, she’s hooked. His erotic games make her body hum with pleasure. Determined to lure Max out to play, every encounter becomes a game of enticement. But his commitment to his family business and his mother’s determination to marry him off makes it impossible to take the relationship public, and Tess refuses to be his guilty little secret.

Choices become consequences, their future is on the line, and Max and Tess are running out of time.

It all starts with a game!

Maximilian is a businessman, one who brought the family business back from the brink of death to the top. I did not expect him to let loose and be able go without work and business. I was wrong. Dead wrong! Their chemistry is buzzing and addictive.

Teresa, or Tess for friends and co-workers, except for her father, has tried to build up her career without the help from her father.

The book kept me on my toes. With every page, I fell for the characters. Both Maximilian and Tess are well developed and that bound me to the book every time I had to put it down. There was a lot going on with the plot and the story but because the book in novel length, it was ideal.

Play a Game With Me had a minor subplot of a romantic relationship that was very well incorporated without pushing attention away from the main plot. All the interesting secondary characters gave me a myriad of emotions, from anger to love to disbelief. I never thought about stopping until I finished the book.

The climax was action filled and if there was any anger around, the climax fixed that.

Got to tell you, I am going to have a book hangover over this one.

Aviva Shulman has had enough of the dating scene. Her father valued his high-powered career over his wife and family. She wants something more, someone who values her. But her roommates are determined to find her the perfect match.

Jacob Black doesn’t have time for relationships. A third-year law student, he’s focused on studying and getting a high-paying job with a top-notch law firm. But his overbearing mother wants him to find someone and settle down.

Their paths cross at a speed dating event and sparks fly. But is five minutes long enough to determine a future together?

I really related to this book on more than one level. Sometimes I’ll read a book and wonder how realistic that plot or scene was. This story was as contemporary as contemporary can get. It couldn’t get any more realistic than it was. As it’s stated in the synopsis, the hero, Jacob Black is “a third-year law student focused on studying and getting a high-paying job with a top-notch law firm.” We all know someone who values their high-powered career over their wife and family. Aviva, the heroine, lived with her father who valued his career above all else. In fact, her father was a lawyer. Therefore you’d think that Aviva would never give Jacob a second look. She wasn’t going to marry anyone like her father. I know what it’s like to grow up and not be a priority in my parent’s eyes. Or at least the priority I felt I should have been.

I also know what it’s like to grow up poor. I could understand why Jacob felt he needed that top-notch law firm to pay off his college loans and help his mother. I understand the agonizing decision Jacob felt between fulfilling his life dream of becoming a lawyer in a top-notch law firm or choosing the temptation of working for a smaller law firm. The larger firm would force him to neglect those who love him. Whereas a smaller law firm would pay less but give him more time to have a balanced life. I could understand and relate to both the heroine and the hero. Their conflict was real and raw. If he loved her he’d choose the smaller firm. Sometimes love isn’t enough or sometimes you have to learn the hard way in life.

My husband and I were once in Jacob and Aviva’s shoes. We met in college with big dreams. My husband got that high paying job. He’s missed birthdays and anniversaries. He was gone more than he was ever home. He missed many of our sons’ early milestones and later he missed seeing their extracurricular activities. It’s a choice you have to live with. It’s not easy being the wife getting the left overs.

I could feel the love and hurt feelings between Jacob and Aviva. I wanted to scream at Jacob for his decisions. Thank God for his mother who held him accountable. Marriage isn’t easy and it’s more difficult if you and your spouse aren’t on the same page. It’s hard sometimes to get on the same page. Sometimes we need a life crisis to fix our perspective. Jacob and Aviva had a plot twist that pulled at my heart strings. It’s emotional and gut wrenching to have to go through a hardship that is a life changer, but hopefully it’s for the better. I’m just thankful that Jacob and Aviva learned what is important early in life. It’s miserable to reach midlife and realize the regrets you have that can’t be undone.

I’m confident that Jacob and Aviva are going to live a happy well balanced life. It was a very interesting plot thread how they met. I have never heard of such a speed dating event. It was clear they were attracted to each other and shared a chemistry that turned into a true love story. Five Minutes to Love caught my interest right away and kept me captivated until the end. I felt it was written very well and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The characters were well developed and relatable. I have to recommend others to read this story especially if the reader loves to read contemporary real life romance.

In Austria to meet her great-grandfather and explore his castle estate filled with priceless art, August Myer arrives to find he’s died suspiciously. As one of the heirs, her life is in danger, turning this fairytale Alpine adventure into a nightmare of veiled threats, unexplained accidents, and murder.

Inspector Tobias Wolf splits his time between his profession and fighting the spread of neo-Nazism. But when the beautiful, intriguing American crosses his path during a murder investigation, ensuring her safety challenges his priorities…and his heart.

When August learns the handsome inspector is concealing a personal involvement, and the death of her great-grandfather is somehow connected, she takes the investigation into her own hands. The outcome could be the death of both of them.

August and her mother uncover more than family history on their trip to Austria.

August and her mother, Lacy, had high hopes for their trip to Austria. It was a chance to connect with long lost relatives and take in the beauty and history of the estate. Unfortunately, they don’t receive the warm welcome they were hoping for. August’s great-grandfather is dead and his widow, Eike, and nephew, Fabian, make it clear they see August and Lacy as intruders. In spite of it all, August and Lacy stay in the castle, but are they living with a murderer?

August is a fun character. She is spunky and certainly not afraid to speak her mind. She isn’t ruffled by Eike and Fabian’s chilly attitude. Her enjoyment of history and art leaps off the pages, and it was a joy to watch her explore the castle. August and Tobias have great chemistry from the start. Even though their personalities are very different, I think they make an interesting pair. August is a take action sort of woman, and I admire that about her. However, she does have a tendency to be impulsive and jump to conclusions. Tobias is more of a planner. He likes to gather as much information as he can before he makes a move. I think their skills complement each other nicely, and I enjoyed watching them work together.

The culprit of the crime is revealed well before the book ends. The suspense comes from watching August and Tobias solve the puzzle piece by piece. The tension is further increased as the murderer becomes increasingly bold in their efforts to prevent August from solving the mystery. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how far the villain would go!

I really enjoyed reading A Legacy of Love and Murder. The pacing and suspense are very well done, and Tobias and August make a great couple. While this is book three in the series, it stands alone very well. Fans of romantic suspense would do well to pick up a copy today.
