Since she is a lawyer, I would think she would be more open to putting off making decisions until all the evidence has been examined. Unfortunately, she makes many misguided, snap decisions throughout the story that cause her a lot of heartache.

This is extremely clear when it comes to her relationship with Bobby. Lacey misunderstands some things that Sandy, Bobby’s sister, says about him. Lacey assumes Bobby is a player who will only break her heart. Given Lacey’s past problems with men, it is understandable she would be cautious when it comes to matters of the heart. However, Lacey and Bobby spend months together. He proves time and again how much he cares for her. He is attentive, patient, and compassionate. Honestly, he is one of the sweetest heroes I’ve come across. Yet Lacey ignores the evidence that is right in front of her. Her continued insistence of pushing Bobby away went on far too long. Consequently, the pacing suffered a bit. However, I felt that Lacey and Bobby had great potential as a couple, and my patience and perseverance were rewarded in the end.

I must say I really enjoyed how Ms. McLean chose to tell this story. Ms. McLean begins each chapter with a section from the present before cutting back to the past. The changes in time period and point of view are clearly marked, and I never felt lost. Each section from the present reveals one more piece of the puzzle regarding Lacey’s stalker. As each piece clicked into place, I was able to figure out who the stalker was and what their motives were, but I still had no idea how Bobby and Lacey would find a way to be together. The solution was a bit unexpected. It was heartwarming, bittersweet, and very satisfying.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read Beneath the Lake. Fans of time-travel romance would do well to pick up a copy!

The father and child were exactly what would be expected of a pair who had suffered a recent trauma. The father worrying about his daughter, the daughter falling in on herself.

Everything about this book came across as loving, caring and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. Good book for an afternoon read in front of the fire.

I enjoyed the emphasis on the value of family throughout the story. I appreciated the messages that were conveyed about having perseverance through adversity and having a strong moral work ethic. I felt connected with the side characters and enjoyed bonding with them through the story.

The entire outline of the story was well developed and the plot consisted of several plot threads which made the book engaging from beginning to end. Even with all those positives, I found the delivery poorly orchestrated, preventing this book from reaching its full potential. The writing style used to show the romance between the heroine, Jess, and the hero, Leo, didn’t work for me. The main issue was repetition. There were chunks of paragraphs I skimmed over because… “been there, read that”. I’m not being snarky here but I felt I was seeing a lot of information repeated and the story suffered because of it.

I am a fan of romance stories that centers around second chances but the author pulled a fast one. Based on a line in the synopsis, “This meeting is his chance to say good-bye and finally move on…” I was convinced the storytelling botched up the second chance and I should have seen that coming. However, the epilogue saved the day and healed my heartache. It was well worth enduring all that skimming to see Jess and Leo getting over their past childhood hurts, mistaken assumptions and self-centeredness. They sure went through a lot to get to the other side – happiness and love.

A Perfect Picture of Us is definitely filled with drama that pulled at my heart strings. This was a sweet romance with a rewarding happily ever after.

There is much to be done in preparing the for Sheridan’s arrival, and Evie and Jack’s moments together are precious and few. I would have liked to see them spend a bit more time together in order to get a better sense of the kind of couple they will be.

Ms. Trissel brings the horrors of war to life in this tale. She shows how the Civil War affected soldiers and civilians alike. Families were torn apart, homes were burned, and lives were destroyed. Jack is caught in the middle of it all struggling to do what is right. He doesn’t believe in the Southern cause, but he cares about the South and can’t bring himself to fight against it. Consequently, he is in danger from both Union and Confederate soldiers. However, Jack is not one to sit by idle. He works as a guide for the Underground Railroad. It is a very difficult position to be in, and I admire his strength of character.

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read Secret Lady. Ms. Trissel never disappoints! I highly recommend Secret Lady to anyone looking for a sweet historical romance.

Told from Christi’s third-person point of view I missed having a glimpse into Lane’s brain – but didn’t feel the story lacked too badly from the reader not really getting to know how things worked from his perspective. While I did enjoy how hot and cold both Christi and Lane ran – it really made understanding them both a little complicated.

I was very slightly disappointed that Christi had a little mini-tantrum when Lane bumbled asking her to come to England for the holidays with him. That part of the scene felt just a little over the top to me and a bit much. I did really love Christi’s character, finding her exuberance – and her love of lingerie – something I could easily relate to. Overall for such a short story I felt there was a huge amount of relationship developed between them and enjoyed the author’s writing style.

Steamy and sexy with some naughty lingerie thrown in for good measure, this is a good, quick read to get you into the holiday spirit.

The men came across as real, colourful characters and I knew to distrust Sebastian – the lawyer– right from the beginning. There was something not quite right about him. Finn on the other hand is tall, dark and wow! Unfortunately too much wow usually means trouble.

Good book, well written and captivating with a hint of mystery and thriller.

I have mixed emotions about this book. I didn’t dislike the story nor did I love it. It’s my opinion that if I like the synopsis then I’ll give it a try. Operation Sizzle deserves the chance to be read. I have to say, what you see is what you get.

I’m a reader that likes to read books that are either sweet, sensual or spicy in the chemistry/bedroom department. This book is definitely a little too spicy for me. The synopsis says “offers him the chance to help her improve her sultriness quotient and in the process enjoy some no-strings-attatced bedroom action, there’s no way he can refuse.” For readers looking for something on the more sexy side, then this might not be the right fit.

The heroine, Betsy Kincaid, was well developed but had some room for improvement. Betsy had a kind heart and it was rewarding to see her experience some positive growth developments as the story progressed. It was frustrating to watch her grow wiser but that made it all the more rewarding. Betsy’s character was closer to my leading character preferences near the end of the story.

The hero, Matt, was likable but a bit too bold and forward for me. I had a hard time connecting with the possibility that a man would hear a woman voice on the phone for the first time and only one time and instantly feel a connection that propelled him to go over to her home and bully his way inside out of concern for someone he doesn’t even know. I found his boldness a bit unrealistic. But it might work for other readers.

It wasn’t Matt’s fault that Betsy made the wrong assumption about him when she met him. The innocent mistake made the story a bit humorous. A book that makes me laugh is always a win for me.

Over all, Operation Sizzle was an entertaining contemporary romance book. You’ll just have to read the book to see if their anger over the misunderstanding will cost them their chance at true love.

Lorna and Hart have excellent chemistry. I’m not usually a fan of instant love connections, but Ms. Trissel has imbued each page with the sense that Lorna and Hart belong together. While their connection is clearly genuine, I wanted to get to know them better. They loved each other in a different lifetime, but Lorna only remembers bits and pieces. I would have loved to see more glimpses of their past life. Even their time in the present seems rushed. Lorna and Hart spend so much time rehearsing for the re-enactment of Hart’s death while simultaneously trying to prevent it in the past that they barely have any time to relax and get reacquainted. Despite this issue, I have no doubt Lorna and Hart have the makings of a great couple. They are desperate to stay together, and the fear they would lose each other after waiting centuries to find each other was palpable. I was on pins and needles wondering how it would all work out!

I was intrigued by the mystery of Hart’s death. I raced through the pages watching Lorna and Hart work tirelessly to not only uncover the true conditions of Hart’s death, but also find a way to prevent it. I would have liked to explore the villain’s motives more. The explanation seemed a bit abrupt after building up so much suspense.

Reading Ms. Trissel’s work is always a delight. Somewhere My Lady is a great read filled with romance and just a dash of suspense. Fans of time-travel romance won’t want to miss this novel!

I found this to be a sexy and interesting steamy story. I really enjoyed both Jean and David’s characters – finding them realistic and relatable. I admit that I had a bit of a hard time believing that after working together fairly closely as boss and one of his editors that neither had any clue of the other’s interest. The office didn’t seem to be crammed full of other workers, and both Jean and David certainly knew each other fairly well professionally, so six years of Jean mooning over David – and a similarly long period of David plotting how to get into Jean’s panties – just made the whole “I had no idea how you felt about me” thing seem just slightly unrealistic to me, personally. I did really enjoy the manner in which David and Jean finally came together – cramming a massive amount of 24/7 working over a weekend to get a proposal done and then nearly collapsing from sheer exhaustion. That bit of the romance was delightful and I really enjoyed it.

I was pleased that Beth’s character was an interesting and complex mixture of various facets, not just a flat-out villain. While sure, a horrible and manipulative person she added a complexity and serious element of conflict to the plot that kept the whole “ex-fiancee who isn’t completely ex” aspect from feeling too clichéd to me. Had Beth’s character been more straight-forward, and less manipulative and well written, the whole subplot of her and David’s newly-broken relationship could have easily fallen flat to me – and not worked nearly so well. But I feel the author did a really good job of twisting things just enough to keep my interest and not have me feeling that David acted a bit stupidly or that Jean over-reacted too much. I was really quite impressed with how that section of the story was handled and along with the interesting main characters really helped lift this into an engaging and interesting read for me.

Sexy and with plenty of conflict and romance this is a great story and one I really enjoyed.

Ms. Grabowski has come up with a thought-provoking premise. I don’t think I’ve come across anything quite like it in a young adult novel. Autumn and her fellow students have a unique ability, which I can’t reveal without spoiling the story. At first glance, this power sounds wonderful and amazing. However, the potential for misuse is huge and truly terrifying. Immediately, my mind was filled with questions. How will the students learn to control their abilities? If someone is misusing their power, how could it be proven? What sort of discipline would the staff use if misuse was proven? How do they ensure the secret of the academy is kept? I eagerly anticipated learning the answers.

Autumn is a sweet girl. She is very determined and much stronger than she thinks. Autumn blossoms on the campus of Dickensen Academy, and I get the feeling this change is a breath of fresh air she’s needed for a very long time. Autumn has great potential, but she’s been living in the shadow of her father, older brother, and best friend. It is clear all these people care about her, but Autumn needs some time away to prove she is capable of succeeding on her own terms. It was a pleasure to watch her grow and change.

While Autumn is intelligent, school work is not something that has ever come easily to her. She works hard to maintain her grades, and her new-found ability is no exception. Unfortunately, Autumn is unable to push her ability to the next step. Frustrated, Autumn can only watch as her classmates progress. While it is nice to read about a character who isn’t magically good at everything, I must admit that Autumn’s struggle seems a bit prolonged, and I feel that the pacing of the story suffers as a result.

Autumn’s relationship with Ben is sweet, but moves at a very leisurely pace. While a slower approach is understandable given that Autumn and Ben are young, under a lot of pressure at a new school, and learning to control their special abilities, I do feel that the pacing suffers here as well. Autumn and Ben clearly care for each other and spend a lot of time together. I feel they could have moved on to dating sooner.

Dickensen Academy has a satisfying ending, but I have a lot of unanswered questions concerning not only the students’ power, but also a source of conflict between Autumn and a girl named Caitlyn. There is a lot of tension between these two and the potential for harm is real given the abilities of these students. There are also several serious events that weren’t explained. I’m curious to see how this will play out in the future.

I enjoyed reading Dickensen Academy. I see a lot of potential in this series and look forward to the next installment.
