The unlikely premise of the story made it harder for the author to convince me of the attraction between the main characters, but Ms. Alexander managed to do it just fine. The relationship develops perhaps a tiny bit too fast at the beginning, but the short format doesn’t allow for any dawdling. As Leah and Jason get to know each other, the pull they feel towards each other begins to make more sense. Their acquaintance quickly evolves into friendship, and over the shared stories of single-parenting and of their kids’ awesomeness it grows into a lot more in the span of a single day.

By the time they ended up wrapping gifts at her place, I was very invested in their relationship and I was rooting for Jason not to sleep on the couch. But of course, the author’s version made so much more sense as it depicted Jason as an utter gentleman.

The girls and their instant friendship felt a bit too simplified and too quick, but again, that was probably due to the short format and to show the true spirit of Christmas. Jason’s solution after not finding the second doll house was sweet and very telling of the sort of a father he was.

The flurry of snowflakes outside, Leah’s freezing fingers and Jason’s kindness as he tries to warm them, and the cozy scene when they have dinner were so scrumptious I wished this were a longer piece so I could get to know Jason and Leah better. As it was, I got a sweet tidbit that got me thoroughly in the mood for the holidays.

The Perfect Gift was indeed a sweet surprise.

Unfortunately, shame and secrets lead Jasmine to leave town with her mind set to never come back. But Mrs. Bynum saw to it that she would return, and not only return but connect on a relationship that was prematurely severed.

Jack Ackerman was Jasmine’s high school boyfriend along with one of Legend’s star football players. Even though Jasmine left him and Legend over fifteen years ago, he still carries a strong love for her. Will they be able to rekindle the love they once shared? Or once secrets have been revealed will any hope of rekindling their love be lost?

Thank you to the author for writing such a great story. The writing style is wonderful. It delivers a pleasing and believable story in full. There is suspense and unnoticeable twists. This story gives a beautiful vision of love in various realms; young love between a boy and a girl, love from a caregiver who, even though she didn’t birth the children herself, felt compelled to see to them finding happiness and having a chance. And also, the love, no matter how odd it seems, from a father to know he isn’t able to be a good father and he loves his child enough to stay out of her life. The characters were believable and likable and I felt empathy for them.

Star Crossed is an inspiring lesson that in true love there is joy, sadness, loss, growth but overall it is unwavering and fixed like the stars.

Star Crossed is a truly enjoyable read that I recommend to anyone looking for a story that speaks volumes and that will still be felt after the last word is read.

This is a fun story and it was a quick read. I finished it in one sitting and enjoyed it very much. I was especially drawn to Lucinda–the older daughter. She was not as socially adept as her younger sister, but she had so much more depth of character that I think she would have been a good friend. Unlike a lot of women at the time, she has no desire in getting married, mostly because she doesn’t think anyone would want her.

It’s an inspy romance without being preachy. The faith of these characters isn’t something they hit you over the head with–it’s the way they live; i.e., Lucinda working at Caring House for Wayward Ladies.

James is a cheerful, fun rake with his own set of scruples. While he is an inveterate flirt, he would never compromise an innocent. He, also, has no intention of being married–until one day he is caught in a dilemma and forced to become engaged to Lucinda’s younger sister–with the strict admonition from the parents that he also find a husband for Lucinda.

Seeing how they slowly fall in love with each other, while at the same time being forced by their own code of ethics to do nothing about it makes this story work. And I have to say I absolutely love the ending. I could so see this being made into a movie and it would be so much fun!

Regina Callahan and Desi St Clair’s life long friendship and love for each other is really something to be envious over. Although Regina is going though her own personal hell and Desi is juggling both her school life and career they still look out for each other. Ms Ricketts really has captured what friendships and relationships are all about – being there for each other no matter what.

I was on an emotional ride reading this book; I was really sucked into the story and didn’t want it to end. Regina and Desi are two perfect characters with excellent character development.

This novella has really opened my eyes with its very clear message – ‘Don’t ever be afraid of following your dreams and being who you are.’

I fell in love with this very tastefully written, sweet book and I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more of Ms Ricketts’ books in the future.

The story offered an interesting juxtaposition of two people hiding behind fake names. Holly is a romance blogger, Sultry Scarlet, by night and works in a bookshop by day. Santo Randolfi, on the other hand, is a writer who publishes his works under a pen name. They meet at a Christmas party organized by a publisher, and while Santo openly criticizes book bloggers, Holly fears he is the author she slammed on her blog.

This conflict between them persists, even though they feel more and more attracted to each other, until Santo reveals that he’s guessed her secret. There’s a lot of Christmas slapstick humor in between, some of which felt flat to me, but a sweet ending follows once both of them reveal their true identities.

Looking down upon Christopher Payton, Cora Colton can’t believe she even doubts saying yes to his proposal. From a good family, wealthy, and charming, Christopher is perfect for her. Arriving in the canvas tent town of Skagway on the Klondike trail, Cora catches the attention of Flynn O’Neill, an Irishman who has lived on the trail guiding stampeeders for a few years. A bond thrusts them together, but their pasts could be what tears them apart—if they can survive the hardships and death on the trail to the land of gold.

With the help and encouragement of the “outrageous” Grace, Cora does what she really wants to do, all the while knowing her mother and her very “proper” fiancée will disapprove vehemently. The reader gets to know Flynn a little at the time, but the feeling he will take care of Cora and get them to their destination, even when she is stubborn in her ignorance, keeps one turning pages. Snow, Flynn’s she-wolf companion, proves to be invaluable at times.

Ms. Archer describes the environment so that the reader’s senses are assailed with the odors, sights, sounds, and the feel of the awful cold, wet misery. But she also reveals the majestic views and beauty of the perilous country. It is breath-holding at times and breathtaking at other times.

The love story that develops is subtle and solid. Cora‘s rite of passage into womanhood is a challenge every step of the way, but she emerges a strong woman with a “can-do” attitude.

In the Land of Gold is a cold, wet vicarious trip over perilous terrain where lawlessness makes staying alive even more perilous—an attention keeping read.
