Is Lydia’s love strong enough to rescue Stratford from certain ruin, or will he save her life instead?

I am not insane. Strange words to start a romance novel.

An unusual historical novel set mainly in Bedlam, the well known Regency madhouse in London. Lydia Sullyard is dragged away to Bedlam without any reason being given for her incarceration. Her family desperately try to obtain her release, but they are refused permission to see her. However, her brother-in-law’s cousin, Stratford Bexley, manages to gain admittance and then comes daily to visit her. Lydia had developed feelings for Stratford before her isolation from society, but knew the man would never feel the same about her.

The author has researched her subject well. The inner thoughts of Lydia could have been boring but instead Lydia’s thoughts and reactions to her situation are engaging and made me want to read on. I don’t know how anyone survived the hell of Bedlam in real life – the rats, the screams of truly mad people, the brutality of the wardens – but Lydia’s way of coping was truly inspirational.

I did however have one moment of confusion. Who arranged Lydia’s release?

A very good regency novel with the two main characters gradually growing to respect and understand each other. Lydia softens and Stratford becomes more human. Very good book.

Trapped by a blizzard and aided by Dixie’s Gift, Ellen and Michael find more than shelter–they find love.

It’s never too late to have a happy ending.

All of the food in this book made my mouth water. The descriptions of the various meals that the characters cooked for each other were so vivid that I could almost taste them myself. Even the simple dishes sounded incredibly delicious. Small details like this matter a lot to me. I really appreciate it when authors take the time to describe the worlds they’ve created with as many senses as possible.

The blurb lead me to believe that I’d be reading a ghost story that had romantic elements, so I was surprised to see how much the plot focused on the living, human characters instead of on Dixie and her mission. While I adored Ellen and Michael, most of the conflict had to do with how and if Dixie would be able to convince her former master to move on with her life. It didn’t make sense to me to draw the audience’s attention away from that tension by having other characters narrate what was going on.

With that being said, I did enjoy seeing Michael and Ellen interact. They were so sweet and kind to each other. Knowing as much as I did about their backstories and personalities also made it easy for me to hope they’d end up together. They seemed like they had a lot in common, and that’s something I look for in a romance novel.

I’d recommend Dixie’s Gift to anyone who is in the mood for a heartwarming read.

Winter is ending and business is picking up at Chez Prentice, Amelia’s B&B. All at once, a particularly brutal homicide at a retirement community sparks rumors of the Rasputin Killer, who skipped out on a murder conviction many years ago. When yet another murder hits close to home, Amelia realizes just how vulnerable they all are. With the help of her new friend, the elderly Hugh Channing, she is determined to figure out what’s going on and keep her family safe.

The characters in Incomplete Sentence seem like ordinary people we might know. However, they are faced with a situation that brings fear, mystery, suspense, and disruption into their lives. The prologue gives the reader a heads up on what to expect as the murder mystery develops.
Manipulation is regarded as relatively safe, but as with all medicines, some people free viagra india taking KAMAGRA may experience some mild side effects like headache, back pain, flushing, indigestion, stomach upset, diarrhea, stuffy nose, blurred vision, color blindness of blue and green, and increase light sensitivity but all these troubles disappear in few hours once the drug is dissolved in the blood. The “who-done-it” elements come early in the story. The local newspaper, with a sagging readership, sensationalizes the possibility of a murderer being in their area. When a murder actually happens, the list of possible suspects grows bigger and bigger as the story unfolds.

However, while there is an undercurrent of the mystery, there is also delightful humor in the story. Amelia Dickensen, an English teacher on hiatus, covertly, and sometimes overtly, corrects grammar errors in ways that bring a smile. Even better is baby Janet’s antics and how she controls the adults that serve her is captivating.

For me, the many characters presented in such a short story distracted from the plot progression at times. Probably if I had read the earlier books in this series I wouldn’t have felt so.

But I loved the connection the ninety-plus-year-old Hugh Channing and Amelia had. It was special. Also, the happily-ever-after for several characters came together beautifully, in a believable and satisfying style.

Ms. Kennedy’s writing style is straight-forward and smooth reading. She does an amazing job of balancing mystery/suspense, daily living events, diverse personalities, and love, both “love thy neighbor” love and romantic love. Incomplete Sentence is an enjoyable, entertaining read.

Find out how the Fitzpatrick family began in this exciting prequel novella to the Cotillion Ball saga.

An Unconventional Courtship is the story of a young woman who is not at all sure she is looking to find love. Charlotte (and friend Emma) have rather modern ideas, for ladies in the early nineteenth century.

They both crave excitement and see women’s rights is as much a diversion as a cause. Charlotte allows her sassy side to set her apart and … why, when she meets the right sort of man, she has no trouble making up her mind! Perfectly sure she’s won over an admirer, she goes home and waits for him to commence admiring. She is soon … never mind, no spoilers here!

This is a fun look at life (and potentially love!) in historic New York City. There are some wonderful, humorous touches and the main characters are both endearing  and have their share of funny moments.

One one drawback for me: although the story was set in 1829, much of the ideas and conversational style read as contemporary.

However, Charlotte’s character, her plight and her determination (and her ability to confound) all make this story. She’s funny and engaging and it would be easy to read other stories featuring this main character.

I haven’t found many books set on the island of Majorca so I knew I had to read this one. I used to spend summers there when I was growing up so reading Island in the Sea was part nostalgia and part interesting story.

I thought the author did a wonderful job describing the flora and fauna. I imagined myself back there. The story was an interesting one but it never held my interest as much as I would have liked. There was nothing wrong with the pacing of dialogue or even the characters, but somehow I wasn’t able to connect with them, especially the lead character, Juliet, as much as I would have liked.

While a good part of the story does take place in the present and in Majorca, there were constant flashbacks of Lionel and his relationship with a woman called Samantha. While it was interesting to read, it sort of took away from the present story and sometimes the switches were abrupt and short. I did like the storyline with native resident Gabriella and how loyal she was to her family.

All in all, it was an interesting read, and if you’re looking for something with a setting that will be new to you, I’d say give this a try.

Despite the conflict in Grace’s mind, the two become friends and the living becomes the go between for spirit and her husband.

The idea behind this story is unique. A ghost story without a true ghost. At times it becomes slightly light-hearted, although not especially funny. The inner workings of the minds of Peter, Sally and Grace show the anguish, jealousy, anger and restraint with remarkable clarity. Peter wants to become closer to Grace, but reminds himself he is married, even if his wife might never recover. Grace feels guilt at the possibility of becoming the “other woman”. Sally… well, the woman/spirit is unique. Determined not to lose her husband she puts all obstacles in the way.

The story has just the right amount of conflict, love and remorse and these all come together to make a wonderful read. A bit slow to start, but I am so glad I persevered as the tale opened like a flower’s petals revealing a richness of characters and plot which are seldom found in a contemporary romance.

The Roaring Twenties spell opportunity for Audrey McCall, a starlet who’s as irresistible as the illegal booze poured behind every shuttered speakeasy. Edward’s confessed his love and is ready to embark on a future with Audrey. No more sneaking off to speakeasies and enduring cast parties, where the catcalls of men directed at his main squeeze get under his skin. Wouldn’t Audrey rather become the mother of his children than worry about the next paycheck?

Muddying the waters is the shifty Rex Wyatt, a new playwright in town, who promises to make Audrey a star. If Audrey gets the part of her dreams, she has to take it. There are no second chances in theater. Are there second chances in love?

If given the choice to keep only one, which would you choose?

Edward Stark, a successful lawyer, is a man obsessed when it comes to Audrey. He buys her expensive gifts, attends every one of her stage performances, surprises her with romantic dinners, picnics, and drives in the country, and he can’t imagine why she isn’t as taken with him as he is with her.

An air of indifference flows easily from Audrey, especially when she sneaks away to join the fun at the neighborhood speakeasy, where Edward wonders why she’s ducked inside “as if she were just another bona fide flapper.”

Although not perfectly suited for each other, their relationship strengthens as this novella moves along at a nice pace. The story draws the reader into a natural understanding that Edward and the stage spotlight can never co-exist, and that’s no secret to Audrey. She’s known it all along. Edward is so perfect — few woman could want more, yet the pull of stardom may be too much for Audrey to refuse, and keeping both is not an option.

The characters are fairly well-developed for a short story, but the backstory reflections were choppy and felt incomplete, i.e., “I’m glad,” he said. Kiss. Kiss. “Sing for me.” Frankly, I’m not sure the flashbacks were needed at all. It seemed almost a waste of time. Instead, I would have preferred the space be dedicated to strengthening the historical elements of the story.

This is a nice quick read and is a standalone book, although it is my understanding that it is a prelude to this author’s debut novel, Return To Me.

If you’re looking for a flash of history in a romance novella, this is an enjoyable read.

The various alien creatures that were introduced in this tale were fascinating to me. One of the things I enjoy the most about the science fiction genre is how creative it can be when imagining what life on other planets might be like. This book was no exception to that rule. It was full of sentient beings that had completely different cultures and ways of thinking than could ever be found in the human race. These aliens genuinely felt like they’d come from a completely different world to me, and that made me like them even more than I would have otherwise.

There was a plot hole that was never explained. It had to do with Zane and Sixia’s behavior. Based on their backstories and what appeared to be good reputations with their clients, I would have expected both of them to diligently follow all of the instructions they were given about how to complete a mission. How they actually reacted completely threw me off guard. Their choices didn’t seem to fit what I knew about their personalities at all, so I was surprised to see how little attention the narrator paid to this part of the storyline.

What I liked the most about this book were all of the plot twists that were hidden in it. While I did see some of them coming ahead of time, one or two managed to sneak up on me. Not knowing they were on their way made it exciting to suddenly stumble across them. I don’t want to give away any spoilers about what they were about or when they happened, but I did enjoy how they were written. They worked well with the main plot line and were a lot of fun to read.

I’d recommend Wandering Star to anyone who likes adventures in outer space.

Dreams don’t usually have any affect at all on what happens to people during the day when they’re awake. Sometimes, though, this rule gets broken.

I liked seeing how slowly the relationship between the two main characters developed. It felt completely natural to me because of how much time the author gave Xerxes and Liang to get to know each other. They worked well together as friends, and that’s something I really enjoy finding in romantic stories. If I can see two people being best friends, it makes it incredibly easy for me to imagine them as something more than that.

There were pacing issues. The beginning and ending were both exciting and well paced, but I did notice a slowdown in the middle. While part of this was due to the main character need to figure out what was going on with all of the weird dreams he’d been having, it was distracting for me as a reader to move from something so quickly paced to a storyline that was suddenly much slower. Either pacing style would have worked, but switching between both of them was confusing.

This was one of the funniest stories I’ve read in a long time. Liang’s personality was so innocent that the idea of him meeting an incubus made me giggle. These definitely weren’t two characters that I’d ever think to put into the same plot. It was hilarious to see them attempt to understand each other, especially later on once Xerxes realized why Liang wasn’t responding to his advances.
