Things really heat up when they’re drawn into a secret project for Queen Victoria’s military, one that requires Vesta’s knowledge of clockwork and Henry’s iron.

An epidemic has wiped out all the dogs in Britain, and beyond. If the military fail in their effort to restore the species, a clockwork creation may be all that stands in the way of a world without canine companionship.

Are Vesta and Henry up to the challenge?

A fast moving steampunk romance set during Victoria’s reign. Vesta is an enterprising young lady who has inherited her father’s alchemist abilities. Dogs are now extinct, and while the veterinary side works on reintroducing them, the clockwork and alchemist side works on making mechanical dogs. Vesta is very good at this task.

The storyline is excellent with the military doing their usual thing of trying to take over everything, but not being honest with people. I liked the way Vesta’s fiancé was a dog enthusiast, while the younger brother was more interested in the family’s iron foundry. Vesta and Percy have an awkward relationship while her interaction with the younger Henry sends sparks flying each time they meet. Add to this the mystery of what Percy and Henry’s family is keeping secret from Vesta and her father and you have an intriguing story with two or three possible outcomes. I liked the way it ended but I think others would probably prefer a different finale and this all adds to the mystery.

A story that holds the attention all the way through.

Seeking adventure, shy Kitty Greenlee joins the Women’s Army Corps. In 1944 England, as secretarial support to the 8th Air Force, she encounters her dream man, a handsome lieutenant who only has eyes for her blonde friend. Uncomfortable around men, Kitty doesn’t think the handsome officer could want someone like her. Recovering from wounds, Ted Kruger wants to forget about losing his closest friends and have fun before returning to danger as a bomber navigator. When Ted recognizes Kitty as the girl who rescued him two years before, he must choose between dating the sexy blonde or pursuing quiet, serious-minded Kitty even though he knows he’s not nearly good enough for her. As the war gears up with the D-Day invasion, will Kitty and Ted risk their hearts as well as their lives?

Katherine’s story begins in 1942. Kitty is a young America woman, in wartime, visiting home to help her family and has set aside her own dreams and hopes. Yet, oddly, the war comes to her doorstep. She finds herself sailing east not long after.

So do her deliberate actions to fit in and contribute to the war effort. She’s determined to do her part.

Likewise, there’s a certain Allied fighter out there we get to know, who is so easily seen as a hero, and whose circumstances put us on the front-lines. We experience his courage as well as his nightmares. It is amazing to ‘see’ action through the eyes of a fighting man, but also to realize he is very human, also.

Family and friendships have a great impact on Kitty, as war has a dreadful and unpredictable impact.

Both characters win reader’s hearts and of course we have great hopes for them. However, nothing is a ‘given’ and no spoilers here!

This really is a wonderful glimpse at life in wartime. Characters and situations are entirely believable, and dialogue is wonderfully ‘conversation style.’ Whitaker has obviously done a huge amount of research into wartime, and what life was like in London during the war years. This is a wonderful romance that surely transcends the idea of a simple ‘war time’ romance.

Wonderfully descriptive words and phrases enhances the tone of every section, from the melancholy opener to the more dramatic scenes. Sensations and detailed settings always figure high; perhaps a trifle too high, on occasion, as description can slow the pace. However, those who love to read will relish some sections of this work.

She’s dead broke. And eviction looms. On Christmas Eve antique consultant Madison Knight takes a phone call from local rancher Zach Murdock. Through a mix-up at an estate sale, Madison’s company purchased his grandmother’s beloved painting. He offers double the money for its return.

Madison risks her job to track down the artwork, but success falls short when she’s stuck in a blizzard. Stranded, she seeks help from a frontier family. Are they living off the grid, or did she somehow travel through time?

Zach’s the only person who knows her plan. He also knows a secret about his gran’s painting. It’s up to him to rescue Madison, but maybe he’s not cut out to be a hero.

Zachary is working hard to track down a painting accidentally sold that his Gran is desperate to have returned. Finally finding the antique store that bought the item, he speaks with Madison and the two of them try to retrieve the painting. Only Madison discovers that the painting really is important – to herself as well as Zachary’s family.

I found this to be an interesting short story. While simple in some respects, I enjoyed many of the complications in the plotline, finding that it changed what could easily have been a regular time-travel story into a far richer tale. I was also really impressed that Zach’s grandmother wasn’t just a token character, we got to hear her side to the story as well.

Madison was quite a relatable character to my mind, broke and struggling to make ends meet. I sympathized with her confusion when she was unexpectedly tossed back over a hundred years in time and was impressed that she managed to not get herself run out of town as a witch or crazy woman. A part of me was a little disappointed that the short length of the story made the back-and-forth in time travelling feel a little rushed. I couldn’t help but think that the author maybe should have give a little more detail to this section of the book because upon initial reading it felt somewhat confusing and I really think having that part fleshed out a bit more would have made the story far richer to read. I was relieved that there was quite a decent length explanation toward the end, summarizing up the entire chain of events or else I might not have fully pieced the sequence together.

Readers looking for a strong romance might find the relationship between Zachary and Madison not quite as fulfilling as they hoped for. While the two are clearly destined to be together and enjoy a lovely happy ending – the bulk of the story is talking about how they come to be together. Aside from a few chaste kisses there is no physical intimacy between them and indeed the story finishes pretty much as soon as they connect and get together. A lovely story, I found this more geared towards readers who enjoy time-travel novels with only a slight dash of romance. Readers who enjoy the romance and relationship to be front and center might not find this story as appealing.

With a strong plot and plenty going on – I found this to be an interesting and complicated time-travel short story.

A Courtship of Convenience

Sophie Appersett is quite willing to marry outside of her class to ensure the survival of her family. But the darkly handsome Mr. Edward Sharpe is no run-of-the-mill London merchant. He’s grim and silent. A man of little emotion–or perhaps no emotion at all. After two months of courtship, she’s ready to put an end to things.
When a man is aroused, his brain in response to the arousal triggers the release of an enzyme which dilates the blood vessels in the penis and causes increase flow of blood in it. check out that pharmacy now buy viagra generic http://www.unica-web.com/FRANCAIS/2013/president-letter-nov2013.html viagra generika This drug gives you the ability to fulfill her sexual demands. A Last Chance for Love

But severing ties with her taciturn suitor isn’t as straightforward as Sophie envisioned. Her parents are outraged. And then there’s Charles Darwin, Prince Albert, and that dratted gaslight. What’s a girl to do except invite Mr. Sharpe to Appersett House for Christmas and give him one last chance to win her? Only this time there’ll be no false formality. This time they’ll get to know each other for who they really are.

Sophie Appensett’s father has spent her dowry updating the family mansion by putting in gaslight so when the well to do manufactory owner Edward Sharpe asks if he may court her, the family is overjoyed. After two months Sophie knows she cannot marry this man who seems to have no personality whatsoever.

This is a classic tale of non communication, plus a father who wants to marry his daughter into wealth so he can continue his renovations. Sophie and Edward agree to go their own separate ways but she has second thoughts and finds Edward is not so stuffy as he seems.

I liked how the author brought their reconciliation about by using the Christmas festivities to bring them together in a true romance. There’s still conflict to spice the tale, but the secondary story also helped to engage me to want to read what happened next.

This is a very pleasant story. I can see readers with new ebook readers curling up on the evening of Christmas Day in front of the fire and losing themselves in the story.

With Tracy’s head at war with his heart, God is about to step in, and through Frankie, guide him onto a new path, a new future, and a blessed reconciliation with his estranged son in the most destined of ways …

A new and fresh beginning are the words that come to mind after reading Frankie Bonetti and Tracy Johanson’s story. Frankie is making a new start in a new location, new home, a new job and new relationships.

This is a pleasant read that I thought was a joy to read. Frankie is a widow trying to piece her life together. Her spiritual faith is strong and her love for people is even stronger. Frankie may be new in the neighborhood but she makes a home for herself and also happen to make friends very quickly. I like that the author displayed Frankie’s spiritual growth as well as her growth in standing for good and for fairness. Though she was grateful for her job she had to deal with a boss who wasn’t too pleasing.

I like that the author has a strong main character like Frankie who is inspiring to read about. Frankie’s life wasn’t perfect but she has a beautiful spirit of love and caring for others. I enjoyed seeing the building relationship between Frankie and Lilly and I am glad that Frankie and Tracy found love and companionship but I think their relationship moved too fast from friends to loving one another. Frankie’s attraction to Tracy was clear from the beginning but with her being recently widowed I would have liked for there to have been a longer friendship instead of the instant love.

The story contains life events for both Frankie and Tracy. Frankie was dealing with a controlling husband and now adjusting to life after his death.

Tracy is dealing with his son after his wife’s death. Frankie is a strong woman who loves people for who they are. She is considerate and looks to help others. I enjoyed reading Frankie’s story. The characters are wonderful, and for the most part developed and easy to connect to. I also found that the writing was, with a few exceptions, well edited.

I like how the author allows the characters to blossom into the best version of themselves. This is a sweet story that ends with love and happy endings.

Some great tension is created when Kelly meets Mario’s mother and when they have a run-in with a volcano. There’s suspense built in when Mario’s friend acts in suspicious ways. Kelly shows exceptional personality traits. It’s hard not to respect her.

The romantic subplot was handled beautifully. I was initially a little surprised at the thought of someone who lived such an isolated and restrictive lifestyle having any chance at all of falling in love, especially since the main character had many other pressing problems to deal with at the same time. Ms. Divya balanced the romance and science fiction portions of her story perfectly, though, and I loved seeing the protagonist move between her personal and professional lives with such ease. It brought a lot of nuance to her personality that I wouldn’t have otherwise gotten a chance to see.

Moena’s reasons for sealing herself off from all of the pathogens in Bangalore weren’t easy to figure out. My original theory about why she chose to do this turned out to be completely inaccurate. Given how important this was for the plot, I wish she’d been much more clear early on about why she made such a drastic decision for herself. It wouldn’t have given away any spoilers, and it would have helped me understand what sort of science fiction tale I was actually reading.

One of my favorite parts of this scene had to do with Moena’s scientific research. She lived in an area that was heavily polluted and full of germs that could make even a healthy adult dangerously ill. The exact nature of her research wasn’t revealed until later on in the storyline, but I was fascinated by the thought of one scientist attempting to solve a problem that entire teams of experts had yet to figure out.

All’s Fair in Love, War and Demigods – a story which tells how demigods and demigoddesses must find their other half before their magic kills them. In this particular story the demigoddess has two demigods after her which causes problems.

These Resing Bones – three sisters who are not very well versed in magic. Two of them have already had spells go drastically wrong and when the youngest kills the man who tries to rape her, they have to pray this time the spell will work.

Destiny’s Dark Light – Part Three. This tale has an unexpected twist in it when the good guy turns bad. The Dorcha is the leader of the dark magic and the Loach is the leader of the light magic. Unfortunately for both sides they’ve fallen in love.

All three of these stories show different sides of magic and all are captivating. The first one was mystical but with spirit (as in gumption) and drew me from beginning to end without waiting for a break. The second was a bit confusing in parts, but I guess if you’d read the other stories in the series it would have made sense. Still caught the attention and held on though.

Destiny’s Dark Light: Part Three was well written and didn’t depend on me having read the previous parts to understand what was going on. It also had a few unexpected twists to it so was thoroughly enjoyable.

All three kept my attention and I read one a day and enjoyed each one.
