Israfel turns out to be quite charming, almost (and ironically) innocent. Vafara is good-hearted and open-minded. She is also a woman of faith, and when this comes into play, readers are likely to admire her integrity. It’s not hard to see why a friendship could spring out of this situation. Then it quickly becomes more than friendship. The author has drawn these two closer with realistic and beautiful scenes.

This Beauty and the Beast story is a fresh and inventive take on a well-loved theme. The world building is vivid, and the supporting characters are just right. It’s a love story, yes, but it has more profundity than some stories because though it is a spicy story with a hot love scene, it is also about depth of character, making the tale as a whole one not to forget. Those who enjoy angel and demon stories as well will probably like this one. Recommended.

Prudence and Stephen are such a fun couple to watch! Their tale is the perfect start to this collection. Prudence has so many outlandish schemes and plots to try and stop her father from gambling, and they all go hilariously wrong. While Prudence has good intentions, chaos always seems to follow her. I never knew what she was going to try next. Prudence certainly keeps Stephen on his toes, and I found myself laughing throughout their story.

Despite how much fun it is to watch Prudence and Stephen, her family’s situation is very serious. Ms. Sands perfectly balanced Prudence’s amusing antics with the precarious financial situation of Prudence’s family. My heart broke for her when she finally gave up hope just as she and Stephen realized they were falling in love. I will say the solution to Prudence’s problem was a bit predictable, but was very sweet.

Three French Hens

Brinna and Royce’s story was unusual. When Lady Joan and her best friend Sabrina practically force Brinna to impersonate her, I had serious doubts about Brinna’s ability to learn to successfully impersonate a noble woman. This implausible plot was made a bit more believable by the fact that barely anyone at the party truly knew Lady Joan. Sabrina is especially irritating in her efforts to keep people as far away from Brinna as possible while she is acting as Lady Joan.

Royce is very persistent and makes every effort to get to know Brinna, thinking she is Joan. Brinna and Royce have great chemistry, and I enjoyed watching them fall in love. I really had no idea how the story would end, and I must say that the conclusion was interesting if a bit abrupt. Brinna’s happy ending is well deserved.

The Fairy Godmother

Odel and Michel’s story is my favorite in this anthology. I felt so sorry for Odel. While her father was living, her life had no joy. His passing allowed her to breath and live life on her own terms. Unfortunately, her fairy godmother, Matilda, seems to have other ideas. Matilda seems to think Odel needs a husband. Despite Odel’s protests, Matilda presents Odel with a multitude of suitors, and all of them are completely ridiculous.

Michel is a breath of fresh air. Of all the couples in this anthology, Odel and Michel’s relationship felt the most natural. While they found each other attractive, they didn’t fall in love at first sight. Instead, they grew on each other. I loved watching them spend time together talking and playing chess. With Michel’s help, Odel gradually came out of her shell. Their happy ending is extremely satisfying.

I highly recommend My Favorite Things to fans of historical romance. It is a heartwarming collection of stories sure to get readers in the Christmas spirit!

A Heart Enslaved was a well written story. During a two hour plane ride, the plot kept me turning the pages, completely absorbed in what was going on. There were some suspenseful moments threaded throughout even though the synopsis practically gives away a chunk of the plot, but if you think it sounds appealing then it’s a safe decision to read this book.

Thorvald Stronghawk is the hero and while I enjoy a strong, handsome, duty bound individual who also possesses a heart, I couldn’t get completely past what he did to the heroine’s family. I guess it’s my own personal hang up because I can’t accept the Viking traditions as written. I discovered I prefer a more civilized hero versus Thorvald’s neanderthal ways; thankfully Thorvald isn’t completely like a typical Viking man. The hero was lucky because, Gisela, the heroine, was able to forgive him for “destroying her home and family.” Trust me, that sentence isn’t a spoiler since it is stated in the synopsis.

Their relationship worked because even Gisela struggled with overcoming the tragedy and injustice that was inflicted upon her. She did point out that it wasn’t specifically at Thorvald’s hand, but it was at his direct order. Even at the time of the order, Thorvald expressed regret. In fact, the hero didn’t even want to be a viking but he had no other choice since he himself was “banished from his homeland for a crime he didn’t commit” and was trying to earn “blood money to regain his good name”. I understand the whys behind the plot conflict but I found it sad and it tugged at my heart. Fortunately, together the hero and heroine were well balanced and good for each other and that made A Heart Enslaved a pleasurable read.

Before I read this novel I didn’t have any previous knowledge of the ways of Vikings, but after reading about all the stuff the hero and heroine had to suffer through back then, I can safely say that I am not a fan of the Viking lifestyle.

As for their relationship being spicy, there was only one scene that qualifies for that heat level. I would have preferred a little more romance between the couple, but given the circumstances, it made sense that it took them both a long time to acknowledge their feelings for each other. This book is more on the sensual side rather than spicy.

Overall, I’d recommend this book because Heart Enslaved was a really good read. I was intrigued with finding out if Gisela would “find love and happiness in Thorvald’s arms” and I wasn’t disappointed. This story is entertaining, but I bet it will be especially good for fans who love those old-time Viking heroes.

I think what made this story work for me was Cleo. She’s a dog with attitude and she’s a little hard to love. The love she does receive is part of what made Max such a perfect hero. How he obtained his pet, how he takes care of her and his goal for her future well-being is the driving force behind a lot of his decisions when it comes to his relationship with Maddie.

For the heroine’s part, she has some ulterior motives, unusual friends, a heart of gold and a very healthy libido. Actually, it became clear that they both have healthy appetites in that area, which made for some very steamy, spicy and entertaining reading.

The pace is brisk, the entertainment solid and the love scenes are very well written. The secondary characters bring charm, insight and a few laughs. They are warm, wonderful and full of surprises.

The scenes with the most humor that really had me laughing out loud is when Max followed Maddie on the sly and saw her going into a specialized store. He jumped to conclusions, which I’ll admit were perfectly logical, and when the big reveal came about the true purpose, it completely threw me. Max’s reaction was priceless. It was awesome.

Messing Around With Max is a must read. For fans that might have missed it, check it out because it’s a gem. For new fans, it’s a great intro to Ms. Foster’s brilliant writing. For readers who are in the mood for a feel-good read after a stressful day, this is the perfect cure. This book pushes all my happy buttons and I guarantee it’s on my keeper shelf.

Two days ago I finished this book and I’m still reveling in it. I loved everything about it. I can’t stress enough how entertaining this book was to me. His Tempting Governess is book two in the series but it can easily be read as a standalone.

The hero, Cartwell, was perfect in my eyes. I loved his generous nature. He was well respected and loved by many which made him endearing to me. The way he interacted with his staff, family members and with the heroine, Belle, was genuine and heart touching.

Belle was equally relatable. I admired her authenticity and desire to find justice for herself. What was done to her was horrible and unacceptable. I was relieved to see her find happiness with Cartwell. Together they made the perfect romance.

There were a few supporting characters that added to the enjoyment of the story. Two in particular were completely original and unexpected. I wish I could talk about why they were but it would be a spoiler. The plot was fun, creative and flowed smoothly from beginning to end.

I wish the book was longer just because I didn’t want to reach the end. However, when I did my heart was bursting with joy and merriment. I highly recommend His Tempting Governess.

All I know is I loved Whom Shall I Marry… An Earl or A Duke? too. Now I’m impatient for #3 to be released. Each book can be read as a standalone. This is my fifth Laura A. Barnes novel and her writing style has remained wonderfully consistent and one of my favorites. I would never hesitate to recommend one of her books to read.

I particularly loved seeing the the hero, Duke of Sheffield, succumb to falling in love with Sophia, the heroine. It was no secret they disliked each other in the first book. I actually read Whom Shall I Marry… An Earl or a Duke? in a few hours. Wow, did it enrich my day!

The plot and delivery were well-developed and orchestrated in a refreshing and clever presentation, giving me an unpredictable and entertaining read. The cast of characters were a fun lot. I loved their matchmaking efforts and I anticipate that Rory and Dallis are going to make their own story an awesome read in the Tricking the Scoundrels series too.

I enjoyed how Mekhi and Jacintha evolved. He had an open mind to listen. He gave respect for her craft and her audience. Their relationship was quick. If I had a one night stand this is how I would want it to turn out. For a tough guy who it seems had no future of having any type of serious relationship Mekhi not only spoke but gave action behind his feelings for Jacintha. It was refreshing to see such a sweet budding relationship develop and grow between Mekhi and Jacintha.

The title of the book doesn’t really go with the story. After finishing the book I’m replaying it in my mind to see where the title ties in. While reading the book I couldn’t help but wonder would a author or publishing company reach out to book reviewers to ask that they stifle their voice in giving a bad review? And would a negative review have such a negative impact to discourage others from reading it? I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and what one person doesn’t like I may like it and the same goes for a book that I may love and write a raving review about, someone else may not like it.

I enjoyed the characters. Even though the characters didn’t have a full back story, they were likable. I am curious to know more about Mekhi and Jacintha and how they both became who they are in their careers. Mekhi’s history with Karin, the critic for the literary division of For the People, sounds like it would be a good story to read about. I liked that Jacintha went to her mother after she over heard the conversation between Karin and Mekhi. Her mother gave her sound advise that made Jacintha think and see things a different way. That was a sweet mother-daughter moment.

This is a well written and creative read. No real surprise ending but readers will still want to know how the story ends.

I had anticipated a bit more deliberation on Ellenor’s part. Yet, she quickly commits to not only helping Alec recuperate from his crash, but also in aiding his plans to go further into Germany. Ellenor doesn’t seem to have strong feelings about the war, and the German family who employs her are like family to her. I admit I was shocked at how quickly Ellenor turned away from it all to aid a man she knows nothing about. Even if this did strike me as a bit unrealistic, it did give the story a sense of urgency that piqued my curiosity and kept me turning pages.

Ellenor and Alec are very likable characters, but I must admit their romance didn’t feel quite right to me. Everything happened so fast. They were in a high-pressure situation, and their lives depended on trusting each other. That kind of intensity surely bonded them and could certainly be the beginning of a relationship. I just wish they’d had a bit more time to explore their budding feelings for each other. Despite my misgivings about the speed at which their relationship became serious, I do think they have the potential to be a great couple.

Mr. Hawvermale takes the suspense up another notch in the last third of the book. Alec and Ellenor are so close to completing Alec’s mission. However, unbeknownst to them, they have been followed by Gustav Voss, a captain in the German air force. I can’t give away details without spoiling the story, but I will say that Alec and Ellenor find themselves practically cornered by Voss. I had absolutely no idea how Alec and Ellenor would escape, and I was on the edge of my seat racing through the pages! I must say I was thoroughly surprised and pleased with how the situation played out.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read The Beekeeper’s Bullet. Anyone looking for a historical romance filled with suspense would do well to pick up a copy.

This was a totally cute book. I really enjoyed reading it. My favorite part was when Anna, the heroine, met David, the hero. Quite entertaining to say the least. They made an interesting romance story considering how opposite they were. I thought it was heartwarming how the author incorporated a romance between two characters with different religious backgrounds but in no way was this a religious book. Holidays in Manhattan is book 5 in the series but is definitely a standalone read.

I felt the story was well written because I could definitely feel the holiday magic in the air. I’ve never been to New York at Christmas time but it’s on my bucket list. I was able to relate to the characters such as Anna’s roommate and her brother’s family. David’s family was present in the cast of characters as well as a couple of his friends. The plot was current, fresh and down to earth. I loved how humble David was. Together, David and Anna made for a spicy romance that was interesting to read from the beginning to the end. Opposites definitely attract.

This would make a fun stocking stuffer for Christmas. I’d recommend this as a perfect holiday gift for a friend or family member who loves to read contemporary romance books.

Over time, they actual ended up teaching each other and learning lessons they didn’t expect. I gotta say, having hidden cameras every freaking place but the bathroom would drive me batty. Madison wasn’t a huge fan either, but she dealt with it better than I would have.

Although the heat level is technically spicy. the presence of cameras everywhere and Brandon’s determination not to get involved with a student means they don’t even kiss for the first couple hundred pages. There’s tension, to be sure, and their attraction is clear, but don’t grab this book expecting lots of smexy times. Even the heat between the sheets is very tastefully described, clear but more emotionally than physically. This is not a complaint from me at all… I tend to skip the sex in books unless it forwards the plot somehow, so I enjoyed it. Give me tension any day!

The secondary characters here were a lot of fun, too, from the folks on Brandon’s crew, to Maddie’s crazy family. The author skillfully created a whole pack of people who were interesting, entertaining and unique. Speaking of the author and her writing, it was smooth, easy to read and I never tripped over anything that made my experience stutter or stopped me in my tracks. Well done!

All in all a pretty solid story. Yes, it’s a romance, but it’s almost more women’s fiction or contemporary fiction with romantic elements. Lots of soul searching and life changes here. A good, solid read with well written characters and a solid, believeable plot. What more could a reader want? Recommended.
