She hates average…he’s as average as they come.

High school history teacher Doug Garvey is trying to enjoy his last few weeks of summer vacation, but receiving his final divorce decree hits him harder than expected. After a brief fling fizzles, he fears love just isn’t in the cards for him. If only he could find someone who’s real, someone interested in something beyond herself…maybe a new running partner who can keep up with his more carnal appetite. When sexy, straight-talking Laurel runs across his path, he dares to hope again.

He’s done with social-climbing posers…she’s ambitious and has big dreams

Fired from an art gallery, Laurel Jepsen shelves her pursuit of an art career in San Francisco to help her beloved great aunt Maxie move into assisted living. While out on a morning run, she’s harassed by a group of teens until a tall, broad-shouldered hottie steps in, pretending to be her boyfriend with a kiss that makes her wish it were true. But she’s only passing through, not looking for a relationship.

Their fierce chemistry burns up the sheets—and the couch, the shower, the forest—but falling in love would ruin everything. Laurel can’t stay in Eugene, and he can’t leave. Doug’s only hope is to convince her the glittery life she’s after could blind her to the opportunities already in her path.

When life drops something so vivid and sparkly into your much too staid life but then she tells you there’s an expiration date on her stay what else can you do if you’re a competitive person? Challenge accepted.

Laurel Jepsen was born to be a part of the art world. She’s tried her hand at just about every type of traditional art…and failed. So now she’s helping out a precious aunt who inspired her love for all things bright, beautiful and bohemian. She expected to spend a couple of months in small town Eugene and then escape to San Francisco. Fate has other plans and I could tell right away she was going to fight it and lose. It was going to be best failure yet.

Be prepared to shed some tears if you’ve ever had the pleasure/heartache of helping an aging parent or other relative with early signs of dementia. Oh, then there’s that whole thing with Laurel and her relationship with her dad, hearing about her mom’s past. That was tough to witness but necessary. This book is full of feels!

It’s not all sad tears, though. Actually, I was smiling a whole bunch. Aunt Maxine is such a precious and fierce little lady. It was easy to see why Laurel loved her and why it hurt so much to watch her give up her independence as her health declined.

It was great to read a story where the guy wasn’t super model gorgeous. As an aside, after meeting the hero from the first book in this series, Nick, it proved that Ms. Stone can certainly give her readers the super hot guy. I’m already planning to go back and grab his and Clare’s story.

Doug certainly isn’t hard to look at but he’s also very real world kind of guy. Early in the story, and their courtship, I was looking forward to the point when Laurel would give in to the attraction and give him a real chance. When it happens, it’s pure romance at its best.

Laurel is seriously talented but good luck trying to convince her. This is one single minded, stubborn heroine if I ever read one. If I didn’t like her so much, I would have wanted to smack her with a convenient piece of art. As it turned out, I liked her a lot. She might be a bit hard to steer in the right direction but she’s loving, loyal and so very good for Doug. Don’t give up on her when she gets a little crazy.

This book was just the right length. Even after nearly 400 pages, I didn’t want it to end. No unnecessary filler. Just a good steamy love story.

When he finds a half-dead woman stranded in his barn, rancher Leo Slattery feels his blood run cold. Though she can’t remember who she is, she insists someone is trying to kill her. With his strong protective streak, Leo brings her into the fold and helps her heal. As they begin to solve the mystery of Jane Doe’s identity, a would-be killer works to eliminate her—forever.

Skye Colton can’t remember her name, her past, or her how came to be kidnapped but she has no problem at all seeing her future in the form of one sexy cowboy by the name of Leo Slatterly.

Colton on the Run is my first introduction to the Coltons of Roaring Springs series. Each book is written a different author but revolve around the same close knit family. It was interesting to get glimpses of the family as Skye’s memory slowly returned. Speaking of her memories returning, I liked how the author let that play out. It was realistic but she didn’t let it slow the pace of the story.

In true Harlequin fashion, Leo and Skye both feel an immediate connection. Not so much love at first site or even lust. Just electric and palpable. I could tell right away that chemistry wasn’t going to be a problem for these two.

PTSD that can arise from different forms of trauma is a theme in this story for both Skye and in regards to Leo’s deceased father. I thought the author handled the subject very well. Leo is acutely aware of how truly traumatized Skye is even if he doesn’t know the details. He’s gentle and encouraging to her and that won so many points with this reader.

The way Ms. Stewart introduces the bad guy creates a true feeling of evil and of a crazy psycho for sure. She let’s us inside his head, see his thoughts and plans, feel his excitement building at the thought of hurting someone again. The book opens with Skye in trouble and there’s no doubt that more of the same is on its way.

My first impression of the author’s writing was how vivid and ‘in the moment’ it put this reader. I like that and honestly look for it writers that I might want to read again in the future. This story has a steady pace and the right mix of action, mystery and romance. There’s obviously more to come from Roaring Springs since the serial killer has yet to caught. Plenty of reason for a return visit with the next installment.

An urgent dilemma…

To save her impoverished family, Marian Langley will become a mistress. But she will not be just any mistress. Marian intends to become so skilled, so coveted, that she can set her own terms, retaining control over her body and her fate. Only one problem remains: finding a tutor…

A scandalous solution…

Other men deprive themselves of pleasure for propriety’s sake. Nathaniel, Duke of Warrington, would much rather be depraved. He slakes his desires with professionals who ask nothing of him but his coin. Marian’s proposal—that he train her without taking her virtue—is an intriguing diversion, until their lessons in seduction spin out of control.

And a most unlikely duchess…

When Marian is blackmailed into engagement by a man she despises, Nate impulsively steals her away. Though he never intended to take a wife, he can’t tolerate the idea of Marian forfeiting her freedom to another. But can he bear to give her what she demands—a real marriage?

Life can change without much notice. For Marian Langley it changed for the worse with the loss of her father and three younger siblings to care for. She had a steady position, living in beautiful homes, tasting society from the fringes and helping raise other people’s children.

Salvation in the form of the local favorite of the gossip mills, none other than the ‘depraved duke’ himself, seems unlikely but so does the scheme that Marian contrives to rescue her family from certain ruin.

Not necessarily an original story line but I still read the book in two sittings. Marian and Nate were what set it apart. Their chemistry and dialogue was spot on for this die hard romance reader.

Marian is the good side of feisty and fiery without being over the top. She certainly catches the attention of a bored, if not slightly hardened, duke of the realm. They have the unfortunate, yet destiny laden, ways of running to each other. Marian’s impulsiveness has a bit to do with that but it works to her favor. He’s had staid and traditional. She’s anything but. I looked forward to each new run in, it was sure to be lively.

Nate has resigned himself to staying out of society, away from match making mothers and having his cake brought to him rather than him having to visit the brothels in London, works to his advantage. But it’s a lonely life. Until a certain local lass finds her way under his table, needing his protection. Little did he know that ‘protection’ would cost him more than money, it would cost his heart.

Besides Marian and Nate, Ms. Jordan created some interesting side characters in the form of the younger Langley sisters, Nora and Charlotte. There’s also a younger brother, Phillip, but he’s away at school and never actually introduced. I look forward to reading Nora and Charlotte’s stories if Ms. Jordan decides to make this into a series.

The story moves along at a good pace but the end felt a little rushed. Don’t get me wrong, it works okay and the ending closes out their story. I think I was just expecting more details, more set up for future stories maybe. She can still do it, the very basic ground work was laid so I’ll just have to wait and see. This book was good so I’ll certainly be watching for others.

Readers who love a good, spicy historical romance will be glad they picked up The Duke’s Stolen Bride.

Until she meets him. Being level headed is suddenly overrated when confronted when the embodiment of the best sexy dreams.

In this day and age, women can’t do what Ella did so impulsively but in fiction it makes for some electric fantasy fuel. It’s also a fun trope to explore. Duncan Prince is rumored to be a shark in the boardroom but he proves to Ella that he can be a giving lover in the bedroom. I liked that the author showed us this more human side of him before introducing the shark. I was able to formulate a much better first impression of him than maybe otherwise.

Their story has several ups and downs but it ends on a great note. Duncan proved Ella wrong on several fronts and she kept him on his toes. Their relationship development was a lot of fun to watch and easy to cheer on. While there was a good dose of conflict I never felt it weighed down the story. Readers who love a romance with a few surprises will enjoy this first book in the Dotcomgirls series.

Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires.

To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing—albeit fake—rake. Between secret lessons on how to be a rogue and exaggerated public flirtations, Grace’s feelings for Sebastian grow from friendship into undeniable, inconvenient, real attraction. If only she hadn’t asked him to help her marry someone else…

Sebastian is in love with brilliant, beautiful Grace, but their bargain is complete, and she desires another. Yet when he’s faced with losing her forever, Sebastian will do whatever it takes to tell her the truth, even if it means risking his own future—and his heart.

There’s only one thing a self-sufficient and book smart lady of the ton can do when she simply must marry a fellow naturalist but he only sees her as a colleague. She sets out to make him notice her by way of a fake romance. Nobody is better suited for a fake romance than your best guy friend, right?

This was one of those books that, when finished, was honestly satisfying. The character development was there. I truly liked both Grace and Sebastian as well as the side characters introduced throughout the story. Especially the Duke of Rotherby. He’s an interesting player in this game Grace and Sebastian play out before all of London society. I was tickled to note that his story will come out next year and I’ll be sure to watch for it. Some lovely miss is going to tie him in knots and it will fun to watch.

Also, I realized I need to go back and look at some of Ms. Leigh’s prior books to see if some of the other happily married couples I met had their happily ever afters already told. That’s how I often find some of my new future favorite story tellers. By reading their series completely out of order.

I particularly liked this story because, while the premise wasn’t new (I’ve ready plenty of the ‘fake romance to win the hero’ tropes in historical romance) the personalities and family dynamics of these characters stood out to me. Grace is allowed to venture into what most people of the time period would have considered “a man’s world”. She’s smart and interested in learning all she can in the field of zoology. Sebastian is also a man of science but he’s more in the habit of studying people and cultures. I think the author made that distinction an important part of this book. Sebastian sees Grace in way others don’t. It was a sweet courtship to watch even when they didn’t realize it was a courtship.

There’s some pretty funny scenes involving some scandalous dirty words and dancing in the rain. Historical romance lovers will enjoy the dialogue as well the story itself. Well developed and an unexpected yet delightful ending.

The descriptions of what it’s like to live in Vancouver were spot on, and I’m saying that as someone who once lived there! It was a lovely treat to get a taste of the culture of that city and province again, especially since this wasn’t something I was expecting to find at all. I appreciated the fact that the author seemed to know that area so well and that she wrote from the perspective of a character who was an ordinary person who was struggling to afford even basic things like food.

There were a few things about how Sebastian and Cody met that I wish had been explained better. For example, they both seemed to develop trust in each other very quickly despite having past experiences that should have made them way more cautious. I loved these two characters together, but I did find it a little confusing to see how quickly they moved from strangers to confidants. Having a better explanation for that would have persuaded me to go for a full five-star rating.

With that being said, the chemistry between Cody and Sebastian couldn’t have been written better. I adored them as individuals and as a couple. They seemed to be perfect for each other from their similar senses of humour to their uncanny abilities to find a way out of even the toughest situations. I couldn’t wait to see if they’d actually end up together for good.

Model Christmas is a must-read for anyone who is in the mood for some holiday romance this winter.

But when a real estate developer sets his sights on the Elliott land, Lucky will have to decide if the money means security for his family, or if he’ll fight for Sleigh Bell with Rachel by his side.

Reading this book was like overdosing on sugar. It was heavenly in the beginning, impossible to stop and then melancholy when it was over. I wish I had read it in moderation so that it was properly savored. Unfortunately time wasn’t my ally. I was determined to read this book before Christmas. In fact, I tried to start it three times and was derailed. Today is Christmas Eve and I finally sat down from all the hustle and bustle and gave myself some well-deserved “me time”.

Many of my friends and I enjoy watching Christmas romance movies on the Hallmark channel. Christmas at Sleigh Bell Farm would make a wonderful addition to Hallmark’s movie list. I’m excited that this was the first book in the The Elliotts of Montana Book Series. I am definitely interested in reading book two. It’s impossible to not fall in love with the Elliotts. They are a loving family that I’d like to get to know more.

To be honest, I am thinking that I will enjoy the second book more because I’m hoping that it will be about one of Jim “Lucky” Elliott’s older brothers. Christmas at Sleigh Bell Farm was Lucky’s story. While he made a heartwarming hero in this story, he was the youngest and still struggling with the transition into manhood. I prefer my men to be already established. I understand the entire plot evolved around his transitioning from following his dreams vs. seeking his father’s approval. The plot was contemporary, sweet and enjoyable. I just prefer a hero that is secure and stable, and can stand on his own two feet, confident in his decisions. As the synopsis stated, Lucky really is “the country boy next door-charismatic, handsome and charming”.

The heroine, Rachel, was actually the stronger of the two leading characters. She wasn’t afraid to take a risk in order to make her dreams come true. She encouraged Lucky and gave him strength to follow his heart. It’s not often the hero is the vulnerable one so it did make for an interesting read. Rachel and Lucky’s dynamics worked thanks to the writing style. I’ve never read a Kaylie Newell book before but I am willing to read another story by her. I’m just hoping the next one will have a slightly more confident hero.

The narrative itself might not win any originality awards, and while there wasn’t much conflict or surprise plot twists, I was perfectly fine with the sequence of events. It was relaxing to read a smooth, comforting feel-good story. With all the hustle and bustle going on in my house, it was the perfect read to escape the stress of the holiday.

I love reading romance stories set in the winter during the holiday season.  I definitely give it a thumbs up.

A man conflicted by past deeds. A woman with no family of her own. Is it possible for love to unravel an ancient past, in order to claim two badly scarred hearts? Or will the light of hope be doused forever?

Readers who enjoy romance blended with a the combination of history and the mystical will be utterly enchanted by this clever ‘weaving’ of a tale. In To Weave a Highland Tapestry Mary Morgan offers us a wander through the past thanks to a bit of time-travel; which works in her quite contemporary main character surprisingly well.

Gwen, whose sense of history is apparent in her study and use of ancient weaving techniques, was attracted the the task of stitching the tapestry at the MacFhearguis’ castle. An act of kindness gives us a bit of insight into just who she is and, as the story goes forward, we cannot help but admire her curiosity, her strength and her determination. This one main character brings together many ‘threads’ of story, fom the curse knotted by the slighted Fae, so long ago, the struggles of clan MacFhearguis and, the one we are waiting for, Patrick. But how can a romance evolve from almost different worlds, at utterly different times?

From the outset, we readers wait for the moment that we do see coming; when Gwen must go back…but then, we are swept along into and unpredictable story that is more than romance. There was that ancient wrong–the Fae were indeed slighted–but can the two change what has been written into the lineage? Can they, together, weave a different future for what should be a magnificent castle, sitting now on utterly barren lands? Their challenges and their quest move this story right along.

More, the backdrop and sense of place is wonderful. Readers will feel as if they have traveled the highlands. This is however, very much a time travel paranormal story and I would only recommend it to readers who are already firmly fans of the genre.  Looking forward to the next by Mary Morgan. Do read!

When Scarlett hires the Roth construction company to renovate the old Mercier house, Dylan is confused by her prickly attitude. Later he learns the Roth and Mercier families have complicated pasts. After reading a brief account of the source of animosity between the families, I knew there had to be more to the story. The explanation seemed flimsy to me, and I couldn’t believe an entire town had accepted such a weak explanation. However, my curiosity was piqued, and I had to know the whole story. As work on the house begins, both families seem willing to put the past aside. Unfortunately, construction on the house has disturbed something sinister. Will Dylan and Scarlett solve the mystery before history repeats itself?

Dylan and Scarlet have an almost immediate physical attraction to each other. Their first meeting is definitely prickly, but they warm to each other quickly. I must admit their relationship gets serious a bit too fast for my taste. Even Dylan and Scarlett admit they care about each other more than they should at such an early stage in their relationship and aren’t sure why. Is it simply fate, the connection to the past, or something else? Whatever the reason, Dylan and Scarlett have good chemistry and are a good couple.

What really kept me turning pages was the mystery of the past! I desperately wanted to know the true story of Dylan Roth (Dylan’s ancestor with the same name) and Jules and Marianne Mercier. I loved how Ms. Sweeney gradually revealed bits and pieces of the unnerving tale through old journal entries. The paranormal happenings at the Mercier house were spooky and gave me chills as I read!

I truly enjoyed reading Bound by Love. I recommend this romance to anyone who enjoys a good suspense with a dash of paranormal.

Settling is not being true to yourself, nor does it lead you to complete happiness. Yet, Mal and Sera have to find their way if they truly want to be happy. This novel is about all the mistakes the hero has made, and he’s made some doozies. Sera’s initial mistake was loving him so quickly and completely, it led to some actions that were misconstrued. This story is about their coming back together.

The heroine steps onto the stage with dramatic flair, requesting something important to her and she gets the ball rolling. The hero has actually never forgotten her so he’s quite taken aback by her appearance, her request, and his feelings. I am so glad this is told through third person point of view. I felt the book is well served by seeing things from both sides.

I enjoyed the chance to see how each felt and I liked watching them fall in love again. It was like pulling teeth getting them to admit the full truth. The author did a wonderful job of keeping my interest. I liked meeting Caleb and Ms. MacLean used his character to perfection. True, it was a tad formulaic, but I didn’t care. He was so fascinating, I am pretty sure he deserves his own happy ever after some day.

I adored the final chapter and the epilogue because they made me feel absolutely happy and satisfied and glad I read The Day of the Duchess. This is a wonderful read for a lazy afternoon and is an easy recommend.
