One thing about the writing that caught my attention, in a good way, was the author’s attention to describing the setting and atmosphere in detail. The way she describes the strip club, the lights and music, the way she dresses the characters, it was colorful and three dimensional. I could see it and felt drawn into the scene.

I did pick up on one or two inconsistencies within the story that drew me out briefly (one sentence says she’d never eaten at Esmeralda’s and the next chapter begins by stating it’s her favorite place). The other was his knowledge and then seeming lack of knowledge about the Ballet Gala. These weren’t game ending issues, just noticeable items that are easily fixed.

I haven’t read any of Ms. Alsen’s other books but I did check them out after I met Veronica’s friends. I’d like to read the others to get a better feel for this town and these people. There’s some insta-love between Simon and Veronica that could be attributed to the fact that this is a short story. I did enjoy the fact that love seemed to give Veronica some growth and self confidence. She was able to stand up to her snooty parents and ask for what she wanted.

This is an enjoyable short story and piqued my interest to see how some of the other couples came together. Readers who enjoy opposites attract kind of stories, will likely enjoy this little novella.

This is a ghost story with heart. It’s about a brother’s love for his sister, a woman trying to come to terms with why she’s even alive and her place in life, her relationship with her parents and the love of a dog that is truly unconditional. There is so much beauty and feeling woven into all the characters it seemed jarring to find a killer stalking some of the characters.

I liked Rob and Bridget. I enjoyed how the author told the story from both their perspectives but in such a way I didn’t feel like it was head hopping. It’s mostly told from the heroine’s point of view because most of the action revolved around her. She had to reconcile the fact that she could see ghosts, that she was falling in love, and she somehow had to eventually accept that she deserved love. I also appreciated how Ms. McKitrick wrote Rob. He’s acted like a real man would. I could relate to him because he wasn’t some alpha macho over the top hero with crazy skills. He was a man who took chances on love, was loyal, earnest and believed the best in people. Rob was also a person who felt emotions deeply and sometimes, he let them rip. His doing so made me respect his character all the more. He was approachable and eventually, believed in Bridget, all of her. There’s nothing more romantic than a man who loves a woman for who she is, not what she believes others expect her to be.

For most of the book, the external and internal conflicts work. The only thing that grew to be a tad repetitive was Bridget’s insistence that Rob would be better off without her; that her scars were insurmountable obstacles to any kind of relationship, with anyone, and she didn’t deserve the attention of the hero. As a conflict, based on her background, it works to a major degree but there is such a thing as overkill and I think for some readers it might have reached that; for others it might teeter on the line of their tolerance level. Rest assured she gets beyond it, but it takes some serious drama and suspense from the villain to catapult her to clearly seeing what is truly important in life. It becomes crystal.

Barnaby is a wonderful touch for a supporting character and I really believe his role was pivotal in this novel. I liked Kate and the cute interaction between the next door neighbors. There were so many elements that gave this story a depth of emotion that it engaged me all the way through.

Ghostly Liaison is a wonderful blend of romance and crime-solving mystery that’s easy to recommend to readers. I really enjoyed myself even when I almost came off my chair at the part with the reptile. Yeah, that was writing at its best.

Geoffrey was such a likeable guy. His personality was so well rounded that I felt like I was talking to an old friend when I read his tale. He had his own fair share of flaws. Interestingly enough, they actually made me like Geoffrey even more than I originally did because of how human they made him feel. I wanted nothing more than for this character to find a way out of his loneliness and pain due to how deeply I connected with him on an emotional level.

The only thing I found a little confusing about this book was how many characters it had. Sometimes I mixed the secondary ones up because there were several of them and the narrator only occasionally remained me how everyone knew each other. It would have been helpful to either have fewer characters to remember or to know more about them. This is a minor criticism, but it’s still something that I found distracting at times.

I really liked seeing how the relationship between the two main characters developed. It moved just as slowly and cautiously as I’d expect from people who have had so many difficult experiences. The fact that the main characters were so hesitant about maybe falling in love again only made me root for them even more.

Written in Stone was one of the most romantic stories I’ve read in a long time. Give it a try if you’re in the mood for something satisfying.

I really liked meeting Kate and Edward. The start of their relationship was highly unconventional and unique and because of that the book was hard to put down. This is pure romance.

This is the first book in what appears to be a trilogy. It’s about three men who served in war together and their friendship was born and solidified on the battlefield. Their war is over and they are back in polite society where Edward, the hero in this book, and Grey and Thomas need to find their place in the ton.

Edward is now the Duke of Strathmore but he’s not happy about it. His life isn’t turning out to be the way he wanted so this story is about finding the one thing he was missing in his life and he hopes to embrace it. Not in his wildest dreams could he imagine how it would come about. The conflict comes from bringing a doll to his new ward only to find out that his ward is a lot older than he was led to believe. Kate is her name and healing is her calling. She’s feisty, opinionated, and independent and as far from a typical society miss as one can get. It’s Kate’s unusualness that sparks life into Edward’s cold heart and makes him engage in life again. The sparks fly, passions are stirred and there are plenty of reasons for a reader to not want to put the book down. The storytelling is strong and the dialogue is brisk and peppery, but it’s funny at times too.

What isn’t funny is the darkness that focuses on Kate. What she doesn’t know is that the person she should be able to trust most in her life ends up being quite the opposite. I had no idea it would go so far so I felt really bad for the heroine. For so long she had hope, she strived to be what expected of her and demanded little, all in the vain hope that someday things would be better. Edward is the only light in her life and a reader will be able to see that all too clearly.

When Kate and Edward to explore the physical side of their growing love and attachment, it’s sensual, sexy and sometimes fun. The scenes were written effectively and I enjoyed their banter and how well they played off of each other. It took Edward a while to come to terms with his feelings but once he does, like his military career, he’s focused on an objective, and in Dukes are Forever Kate is the prize.

I also liked the secondary characters, Edward’s brothers in arms, Thomas and Grey. Since they are going to have their own stories eventually, the author did a wonderful job of fleshing them out, making them interesting and creating an effective hook for readers to want more. I know I certainly do. I really enjoyed Ms. Harrington’s Dukes are Forever. This was a great romance and I can’t wait for Grey’s story!

She’s altogether much too American to ever be an English rose. She’ll just have to teach these London elites that there’s more to this American heiress than the ability to garner a proposal or three.

So much to love about this book! First off, Merry is so very American and, first the most part, unapologetic about that fact. She does begin to think that she needs to better emulate the English ladies she encounters but, bless her heart, her blood runs true red, white and blue. I loved her enthusiasm and the fact that while she tried to behave, there were times that she simply had to be herself. The best of those times was actually after she’s married to Trent, or Jack, or Duke (they’re all the same person and the constant name switching was a little odd.)

Trent or Jack or whichever name he went by, was a swoony kind of hero. He was dark and broody without much reason to enjoy his station in life. And he has an evil (not identical) twin who isn’t so much evil as he is just the opposite of Trent. Or at least he tries to be the opposite. I got the impression that there’s a lot more to Cedric than what he puts out for the public though he keeps his good parts buried deep. I look forward to seeing more of him and finding out exactly what happened to the Cedric I met in London when he left for the Bahamas.

Back to Trent and Merry, they were refreshing. Their wedding day may not have been the blissful event Merry would have imagined when she finally said “I do” but the moment after he raises her veil and kisses her, that was the moment I could envision their happily ever after. Interestingly enough, it happens well before the end of the book and unlike a much used “had to get married because they were compromised” trope, their’s was for even more nontraditional reasons. No, she wasn’t pregnant.

Because there was so much story left from the day of the wedding to end of the book, I knew that there would have to be some additional conflict. Actually, there are a couple of issues they have to work through but the main one stems from his childhood and her reputation of falling in/out of love. It was all very understandable and realistic. He had just reasons for wanting to avoid using the “L” word even though it was so obvious to this reader in every move he made where Merry was concerned. As often happens, it took something drastic for him to see what this reader was already very aware of.

On a slightly off note, I have to think Ms. James is possibly a Potterhead. She was in London when this book was written and there are names and places used in this book that had me wondering if she wasn’t making subtle nods to the world of Harry Potter. Maybe not but, there’s a Mrs. Honeydukes, Merry’s dog’s name is George and Trent’s home place is called Hawksmede (similar to Hogsmead). I could totally be reading something into nothing but coincidence but as a confirmed Potterhead, it still made me smile.

Readers who follow Ms. James writing will find this to be another winner and one that I could cheerfully read a second time to truly enjoy the cleverness in her writing. The way it ends led me to believe that there may be a sequel involving Cedric. Easy recommend from this always entertaining story teller.

Hannah was easy heroine to like and to root for. She’s not a simpering miss and while she’s certainly more worldly than the average young lady of the ton, she doesn’t flaunt her experiences and she isn’t cruel. She is confident, though. I don’t like when an author makes the female lead scared of her own shadow, afraid to speak up or walk away when in it’s in her best interest and I had to love it when Hannah admits to herself and Miles that she never lies to herself. That doesn’t mean she allows herself to indulge in every whim or desire but, she honest in that she what she wants.

I like Miles, too. He’s a middle child of a large family and he does what the middle child tends to do. He draws attention to himself by any means necessary, regardless of the positive or oftentimes negative results. I thought it was interesting, his reaction, when he realizes that not all attention is good. When his reputation, though unfounded, nearly costs him the girl. In the end, the author gave me hope that while Miles may see humor in almost all situations, he was mature enough to know when to follow his heart.

This is a quick little read that I would have easily enjoyed as a much longer story. Hopefully, Ms. Sandas will someday decide to revise this and let us meet the other cousin whose tales of ruination led Hannah to try to hold Miles at a distance. I’d like to have seen her reaction to seeing them so very happy together despite her lies. Also, I really really wanted to see Beatrice get what she deserved. What a twit! I hope she has to a marry that awful stick in the mud Lord Hathmore. They deserve each other. Lastly, there’s Grimm. Bless him! I want him to find a love match either with the woman his father wants him to marry (that would be a nice surprise) or with someone else and then he can stand up to his father say he’ll marry who he wants to.

Those kinds of thoughts are what let me know I really enjoyed a story. I’m able to imagine it drawn out further, side characters having larger roles, unexpected surprises. I walk away still thinking about the book. That’s a good read.

Regency historical romance is my first love in books and this was a satisfying read. I’ll be following this author to see if she continues this story in other books or simply to check out her other offerings. She has a clean, clear writing voice that put me right into the scene. The details are on target for the time period and I look forward to slipping back in time with her again.

The book started out slow and for a romance novel and was wordy with an overboard of details that made the story too long and drawn out. Later it felt like a build up as I enjoyed Michael loving Faith from a distance. His antics on trying to show her how he felt were adorable. I didn’t like once Faith recognized Michael’s feelings how quickly they acted on impulse. Faith didn’t see Michael as a love interest but when his feelings were revealed they went from zero to one hundred. Yes they knew each other years ago as children and young adults but people change. To me I would have liked to see them get reacquainted not just jump straight into bed.

I enjoyed the family bond and closeness. The family had fun, they are loving and had family traditions. I like the idea of the best dish contest that the family held each year during the Thanksgiving holiday. The women were entrepreneurs and held a strong stance. These factors made the book an enjoyable and inspiring read. The author seemed to write with her readers in mind. Faith had her issues with her prior marriage but eventually was able to let that baggage go leading to her opening her heart to love again. Many readers probably face this dilemma and will find it refreshing to read that there isn’t much opportunity of finding love again unless you open your heart and take a chance. And being the book is a holiday series the author shared recipes that are sure to complete any holiday family gala.

The writing style was easy to follow and the plot was pretty simple but the extra with Kevin gave the story a little twist that I didn’t expect.

Overall this was a pleasant read and one that I would recommend for those that enjoy a strong family bond.

There’s a lot of scintillating dialogue and compromising positions to keep the pages flipping. There is tormented angst too. Along Came a Rogue is the second book based on the friendship of three men forged in war and now they must find their way in polite society. They are exceptional men, and the women who love them are just as fascinating.

The book begins in a naughty manner and depicts the hero as a shallow, callous rake whose only concern is himself. That initial perception is tossed out the window once a reader gets to meet and join Nathaniel Grey on his journey to love, and the truth. However, his way with women benefits the object of his adoring obsession, Emily. Some of those scenes were delightfully wicked.

Emily has loved Grey even as a young girl but it was thought to be that of an innocent miss and was written off as an infatuation. A reader finds proof that it was so much more and yet there are so many obstacles in her path on realizing her love for Grey as the woman she has become that it’s a bit daunting. Emily has some nasty surprises visited upon her during the course of the novel but she never comes across as a weak victim. I liked her strength, her daring and her love for her brother, Thomas. She does tend to play into the martyr syndrome a bit too much for my liking but I was happy the way the author eventually handled it.

As far as the villainous aspect in the story, the author threw out some cryptic comments, a look or two at the right time and added in the puzzled interpretation by the heroine and that’s all it took for me to figure out who were the bad elements in the tale. I felt bad at one point when it was revealed as to the reason for a couple of the actions but once I realized just how damaging they could have been, all bets were off. Justice was correctly served – with relish.

Along Came a Rogue is exactly what historical romance fans look for. A lady who has to stand tall at a time when women where restricted by decorum and in doing so, grew in personal conviction, bravery and fortitude; a man who respected the woman Emily grew up to be and was willing to stand by her even when she sent him away; and a wonderful physical and emotional chemistry between the two that eventually leads to a happy ever after that satisfies on every level. Now the only man of the initial trio left unattached is Thomas. Since introduced to Edward, Grey and Thomas in the first book, Dukes are Forever, I have been hooked. And Along Came a Rogue has only whetted my appetite for more. It’s a fun and romantic series so far and I can’t wait for what comes next.

The four royal young people who had crashed on earth are now back on their home planet with their memories restored. However, the actions that occurred in the first book still haunt them, making it difficult for them to move forward. But, when the planet is threatened, they put aside their insecurities to help save their home.

The book has a lot of good qualities. There’s definitely a lot of action and the romance is solid. However, the book could have done with a good content and grammar editing. There was an over-dependence on –ly adverbs that took me out of the story, some misspellings, some phrases that seemed unwieldy. The dialogue seemed forced and it was hard to really connect with the characters.

As I said, though, there is a lot of action and the plot itself is quite interesting. Even with the issues in the book, I was invested enough in what was going on that I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. The book ends with the planet on the brink of war—and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I found this to be a fun, interesting, sexy read. I really loved how the author did an amazing job with the “slow burn” kind of relationship between Lark and Shane. This was no “meet and instantly jump into bed” style romance and I enjoyed reading how Lark and Shane danced around each other, got to know one another and generally had a far more realistic set-up to their eventual romance. I thought it incredibly funny Lark initially thought Shane was a stripper (not sure there are many SEALs out there who have been mistakenly taken for something like that!) and found the gentle mix of humour, friendship and lust reached an excellent balance.

The sex scenes were sensual and full of laughter and spice. I found them tastefully written and steamy enough to make a girl blush. It was the emotion and connection between Lark and Shane that made them really perfect to my mind though, and I think the pacing and slow-burn between them made the sex and blossoming relationship even more perfect than the physical acts themselves. Readers who like a bit of spice and lots of romance should find this book really satisfying on many levels.

This is a fun, spicy love story between two interesting people. I loved watching them come together and overcome obstacles of family and career choices. I particularly loved the deeply satisfying happy ending and was left with a warm, happy feeling of pleasure when I closed the book. Recommended.
