Jill Farrell’s college reunion is coming up, but she wants no part of it. The man she once loved, Swedish exchange student Max Kallstrom, is rumored to be attending, but that doesn’t tempt her as Max disappeared from her life the night before the graduation, and has never been heard from since.

When her ex-husband, Andrew Denton, knocks on her door and announces he wants to make nice, and, “oh, by the way, one of their class alumni might be a murderer”, Jill’s resolve to avoid the event hardens.

Jill shuts Andrew’s efforts to reconnect down, and tries to put Max out of her mind. And that’s that, until a second man knocks on her door, and the emotions of a time long ago overtakes her. Max Kallstrom tells Jill she’s the reason he has come to California. He asks her to please let him explain why she hasn’t heard from him for fifteen long years.

She’s willing to listen to what he has to say, but immediately realizes that her memories must guide her through a wrenching and dangerous few days. While her heart remembers a handsome young lover, she and her classmates are all different people now, and the reality of a murdered friend proves she can’t trust everyone.

What’s not so clear is if she should trust anyone . . . especially Max Kallstrom.

Once again, Emelle Gamble has written a book that enthralls.

From the first, I was wrapped up in Jill’s life. The story starts with her decision to move her mother, who has Alzheimer’s, into a nursing home. It utterly breaks her heart (both having to move her and realizing that her mother doesn’t really even see her or know her anymore), and it broke mine as well. Then one after another, more heart-rending things happen. Her ex wants to talk to her, her one true love, Max stops by and wants to explain why he left her … and then a friend is murdered.

Poor Jill has way too much going on and doesn’t know where to turn. Thankfully, she has her best friend, Carly to talk to, along with Carly’s husband, Ham. Things start escalating pretty quickly both with Max and the murder mystery. All fingers point to Max as the bad guy, but she has a hard time thinking he could commit murder. In fact, she knows she’s falling in love all over again.

Ms. Gamble has populated the story with exceptionally real characters, all different and unique, with character strengths and flaws. There are plenty of secondary characters (it does involve a class reunion, after all). The town, too, is well written and the descriptions are all clear without being over bearing. It was a nail-biting experience and the reveal at the end was a huge surprise! Well done, Ms. Gamble!

If you’re looking for a strong, well-written romantic suspense that will keep you guessing, I recommend The Second Man. It’s definitely a winner.

Together, they tangle with a goofy dog, exploding trucks, an unfortunate synchronized swimming episode, homicidal thugs, a corrupt building inspector, disappearing corpses, a kidnapping, and the threat of live cremation, all to deliver a kick-ass grand opening.

Cold Feet Fever is the novel to choose for pure escapism and light reading.

The characters were well developed although very stereotypical. The romance between the hero, Sam and the heroine, Katie, worked well. I enjoyed watching Katie fight for what she believed in and watching Sam grow from a lazy, selfish, immature boy into a man worthy of Katie’s love. Sam’s grandfather was quite humorous. Sam’s dog, Rex was comical. The criminal connections could have been more elaborated on as it would have made the conflict more serious and less silly.

This book was mostly enjoyable. While I wouldn’t consider it a waste of time, it certainly didn’t hook me to where I couldn’t put it down, which in some ways is a good thing when I have other things I need to do. I was able to get reabsorbed into the story each time I picked it back up. I had hoped to get more riveted as I progressed through the book but the plot was a bit too imaginative for me. I prefer things to be a bit more realistic and plausible. However, this farfetched plot had enough entertainment value to finish reading it.

Even though I had expected the secrets and crime to be more intense and real, the story flowed smoothly and provided me with both predictable and delightfully creative plot twists. The book ended with all the threads neatly knotted and with a happy closure.

Although this novel won’t go on my keeper shelf, I can think of a couple of friends that might enjoy this read. They prefer light conflicts and a strong sense of the silly and Cold Feet Fever delivers both. It would be right up their alley.

The reader may not have been shown how smart Sierra Callahan really was, but was surely shown that she had “man issues” from a bad experience during her college years. I almost didn’t like her, yet wanted to see how her story turned out.

Sierra is beautiful, direct, and driven to help her mother make the family pub a success again, and supposedly smart. However, she seems to lack maturity and the ability to be honest with herself. Her temper flare-ups are used too often to cause the conflicts in the story, making it appear that she has little self control.

However, she and the wealthy, handsome Michael Donovan sign a contract that they muddle along with regardless of the conflicts.

Michael won this reader’s heart early on. He is intelligent, protective of his family, honest in his dealings, compassionate, charming, but to call him nice “is like calling a Bengal tiger a nice kitty.” He is sexy and a master at seduction. The chemistry he and Sierra have from the first meeting sets one to reading fast and turning pages to see what will happen next.

The character involved and the twists that help unravel the complexities of Sierra’s “man issues” is quite a surprise. Who would have believed such good advice could come from that character!

Love and remembrance

Precious memories that one never imagines could be lost have a way of fading over time, to a point when uncertain they were ever real, rendering them as ghosts in the machine. Yet reminders, both passionate and brutal tempt them back as cherished thoughts and at times nightmarish visions.

As their world once more spirals out of control to the ravages of war, Trevor and Victoria find themselves amidst a torrent of beautiful and painful moments relived. Foremost for them is the safety of their twenty-year-old son, Miles. The distress Victoria endures over his departure for school in Glasgow is further complicated when Trevor reveals a secret he has hidden from her for years.

Once more the question of “How far would one go to save the one they love?” is thrust upon them, with unforeseeable consequences. Has time run out for all … or will they survive with an unimaginable bequest of time?

Letting go isn’t an easy thing to do, but sometimes it’s completely necessary.

One of the things I’ve come to appreciate the most about Mr. Botzenhart’s writing style is how much attention he pays to the small details in his work. When he talked about how a character reacted to a specific piece of news, I could imagine exactly what that person looked and sounded like as they heard what was going on. There was just as much care taken with the settings as well. This makes his tales a lot of fun to read.

There were pacing issues in the beginning. The narrator spent a great deal of time reintroducing the characters and explaining what they’ve been up to since their last adventure. As much as I liked catching up with them, this did slow down the pacing of the plot quite a bit. It took me a while to get into the storyline because of this.

Trevor’s secret was handled nicely. I did have a pretty good guess about what it might be because of my familiarity with this series, but the author still sneaked in a few surprises about it for me along the way. What I liked the most about Trevor’s secret was seeing how it affected the rest of the plot. It fit the tone of this book really well. I can’t say much else about it without giving away spoilers, of course, but it was exactly the sort of thing I’d expect from this character.

This is the third instalment in the Out of Time series. While it can be read as a standalone story, there was some nice character development that only readers who are already familiar with the main characters will pick up on.

I’d recommend A Bequest of Time to anyone who loves steampunk science fiction.

Will the third time be the charm? A duke can’t marry just anyone. His wife must be of good family, be fertile, be young. Struggling playwright Sarah Pettijohn is absolutely the last woman Gavin Whitridge, Duke of Baynton, would ever fall in love with.

She is an actress, born on the wrong side of the blanket, and always challenges his ducal authority. She never hesitates to tell him what she thinks.

However, there is something about her that stirs his blood . . . which makes her perfect for a bargain he has in mind: In exchange for backing her play, he wants Sarah to teach him about love.
However, this oftentimes leads to muscle tensions and aches when no action cialis generico 5mg is taken. This cialis on line is due to harmful manufacturing processes and low quality. By the grace of on cialis line , we are now getting susceptible to a serious problem called erectile dysfunction. These foods not only cause life threatening disease but it is a condition that can spoil relationships, break marriages, crush confidence and personality and is thus sildenafil for women a critical issue.
And he, in turn, has a few things to teach her about men . . .

This is quite the fascinating historical romance. Of course there is a wonderful and well written romance to enjoy, but it’s the surprising betrayals that affect both Sarah, the heroine, and Gavin, the Duke of Baynton that truly set this novel apart.

I liked how the author set up the scene in the first chapter – both main characters had their reasons for being in the same place but they are as far removed in goals as one could be. And yet, that one event set the stage for all the intrigue and conflict that would later occur. The breadth and scope of it isn’t even hinted at but once Ms. Maxell set the wheels in motion, the story takes off and I was thoroughly entertained.

I think my favorite aspect of the book is the fact that both Sarah and Gavin were at odds with each other. There’s a strong attraction between the two and it certainly complicated things, but only in the best ways possible. Watching them fall in love with each other was a spectator sport that completely entertained, probably because of the intense lust and sensual buildup as their prickly relationship continued. It started off on rocky footing, and the author introduced so many reasons to feel sympathy for both Sarah and Gavin. Some were downright sad, yet, Sarah is a plucky heroine with a ton of pride, and Gavin is no slouch either. There are sparks, misunderstandings, and when they succumb to their passions, it’s made all the better because Ms. Maxwell’s talent does those scenes justice. I swear, they took turns seducing the other even while trying to resist one another. I can’t help but smile because they think they can ignore true love.

Then of course there’s the conflict. Wow, powerful stuff. I felt so bad for Gavin because as shocks go, it’s a doozy. Gavin’s dealing with it proved without a shadow of a doubt that he meets the criteria of ‘hero’.

Another really good part was Gavin’s relatives. I don’t want to give anything away, but they play an important part in the story. Dame Imogene and his mom are the greatest. I love a happy ending.

A Date at the Alter is historical romance at its best. There is so much depth to the characters that their feelings of fear, anger, uncertainty, lust and passion come to life within the pages, making Sarah and Gavin easy characters to care for and fall in love with. The dialogue is key to understanding their points of view and sometimes it’s even fun and clever. This is a novel worth spending time with and I highly recommend it. Then again, this book has that classic Maxwell touch; what’s not to like?

Even after all the trauma she has suffered, she’s still determined to face the enemy and even plays a key part in drawing them out. Mairi does make an extremely rash decision in battle that puts her and Bryce in danger, but after all she’s been through, I can understand her emotions getting the best of her at such and intense moment.

Mairi and Bryce fall in love hard and fast. I must say that it takes a talented author to make this sort of thing work, and Ms. Carlisle has certainly pulled it off in this story. Mairi and Bryce have excellent chemistry and the sex scenes are scorching. I could easily picture them as a powerful couple and felt very secure in how their relationship was progressing until after the big battle when Bryce makes a decision that jeopardizes everything. It is easy to sit back and say that Bryce was being stupid, but whenI took a moment to think about Bryce’s past and the short amount of time he and Mairi had known each other, I could understand why he did it, even if I completely disagree with him. Will Bryce and Mairi’s romance survive his decision?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Knights of Stone: Bryce. This tale is part of a series, but it stands alone very well. Ms. Carlisle explains any pertinent background information succinctly. I was never lost and the flow of the story was never interrupted. The pacing is great, and I was so wrapped up in their story that I read the entire book in one sitting. Miss Annabel Bradley refuses to accept life as a spinster. Her many years of pouring greedily over gothic novels has put her head in the clouds; dreaming and hoping for the love she reads about. She has always held a tendre for her best friend, Lane Mason, seventh Earl of Devon, but she does not want to jeopardize their friendship by telling him about those indecent dreams of hers. Anna, therefore, makes a life-changing decision; she is going to accept the proposal of the next suitor to ask!

Lane Mason is an average aristocrat; absorbed in life in general, and content with his status in society. Amid a frequently occurring moment of self-loathing, Lane shockingly discovers his feelings for Anna. Now armed with the awareness of his love for Anna, Lane decides to perpetrate a devilishly clever scheme. He will pay actors to abduct the two of them in order to give Anna an adventure like the ones she reads in her treasured books.

Lane’s plans go awry, however, when they are kidnapped in truth.

It has been two days since I’ve finished this book and I’m still having a “book glow” from it. I find myself periodically reminiscing about the story and wanting to randomly say “Hell and Blazes!”, one of Lane’s favorite sayings.

I was wary when I read the synopsis because I thought it was going to be just another book about two childhood best friends that discovered later in life they were attracted to each other but they didn’t want to ruin their cherished and valued friendship. The author, Cheri Champagne, did an amazing job of taking an old cliché and turning it into an intriguing story.

I admit that I was thankful for the prologue because the first few pages in chapter one were quite ordinary. I pushed on because I knew it had to get better according to the prologue. By chapter two I was completely hooked. I was delighted by the fact that this novel kept getting better and better with every turn of the page and with every chapter I devoured. Little did I know just how absorbed by this story I would be. I never would have guessed that this book would rank as one of my favorite reads by the end. What a treasure Love’s Misadventure turned out to be.

I had actually refused to put the book down until I reached the ending. I really didn’t want the book to end even though it was 1 A.M. in the morning and I had to get up to work at 6 A.M. What I really want to know is, when will there be a book two in this Siblings Series? I can’t wait to read about Anna’s brother, Charles and Lane’s sister, Bridget. Of course I hope there is a guest appearance of Lane and Anna with an update of their relationship.

Lane and Anna were meant for each other. They were the perfect combination of sweet and sensual, with humor mixed in. Both were strong and confident. I enjoyed watching their relationship progress from a genuine friendship where they truly cared and respected each other to something more meaningful such as true love, even in the midst of being kidnapped. This is where the suspense/mystery takes place. I don’t want to spoil anything but let’s just say this story arc was brilliantly written. I was on the edge of my seat. I do hope that Anna’s brother, Charles can explain it more in book two.

The synopsis mentions that Anna would accept the proposal of the next suitor who would ask. Let’s just say that suitor was a well written twist in the plot. My favorite scene was at the Scarsdale masked ball. I love how the author wrapped up the role of this character at the end of the story.

The author did a wonderful job describing the setting which made me feel like I was in the room with the characters. I could smell, taste the food, visually see the room and feel the fear or excitement that was evolving with each printed word. It was as real as real can get!

I would recommend this book without any reservations. It was an excellent, high quality read with a sigh gasping happy ending. I thoroughly enjoyed falling in love with the characters and look forward to being reunited with them in book 2.

But Sawyer can’t outrun the secrets that stalk him–or the day of reckoning awaiting them all…

All I can say is wow. From the start this book had me. The characters were so in depth and real that I couldn’t help but be drawn into the story. I normally don’t like to read lengthy books but this one was so enjoyable and wasn’t overly wordy that I am so glad I didn’t let the number of pages prevent me from reading because I would have missed out on a great read.

I enjoy books that take place in small towns. Blewer County has a set of interesting characters that kept this book moving. With a prison break, a unsolved murder and a deaf widow the action and thrills are continuous thorough out. Not only did I love the character’s bio I was also in awe of the author’s writing and how the plot was laid out for pleasant reading. The author filled the characters with an incredible amount of detail and liveliness. Some of the context and language may be uncomfortable to some reads. To me it’s not overly harsh context but more so Carl’s character traits and habits being visually displayed in true form.

This book just took my mind to Blewer County; to the people like former sheriff Ezzy Hardge and his commitment to a 20 year cold case. My favorite character is Cora, Ezzy wife and young David Corbett. Each character had a personality and believable qualities that made them so likable and real. Their dialogue added such realness to the scenes.

There were quite a few things going on in the novel but it wasn’t too much. Carl Herbold and his prison mate Myron Hutts have escaped. Jack Sawyer has coincidentally arrived on the farm of Delray Corbett just as word has spread about Carl’s prison escape. Emory Lomax, the towns loan officer is pressing Delray about selling his farm. This unforgettable read delivers perilous danger, soft romance and heart-stopping action.

Skillful storytelling in relaying deaf widow Anna’s voice. I was curious how the author would be able to including a deaf character but I have to commend the author on a wonderful well done job on having a strong sense and talent to carrying this out with success. I am sure once a reader starts reading they will be captivated and won’t be able to put the book down.

This edge of your seat thriller will keep you reading until the last page.

But even as life and laughter return to Hannah’s home, she’s haunted by the memory of her dangerously unstable ex. With a second chance at love on the horizon, Hannah must face down her past in order to let the sunshine back into her life.

Not what I expected from the blurb, but still a satisfying novel.

Honestly, from the blurb I expected something a little more Sleeping With the Enemy, but the focus of this novel isn’t the heroine trying to remain safe from her abusive husband. He’s really just not a threat at all to her. What this novel is about is the journey Hannah takes to become a strong, secure woman and how she helps others to become the same.

She has a solid set of friends and family to support her, and the strength of this novel is their interactions. While there are certainly strong romantic elements in this story between her and Travis, I don’t feel that it’s a romance at the heart of it. It’s more women’s fiction in that it’s about Hannah, and her growth and development, and not about the romance. I absolutely feel as if Travis could have been no more than a good friend and the story itself would still stand.

That’s not a complaint at all. Once I shifted my head from “romantic suspense” to simply enjoying the story, I really had a wonderful time. I loved Aunt Birdie, Rosie, Liz and Darcy as well as Travis. They were interesting, believable and unique. And the relationship between Hannah and Travis grew organically and was also believable, considering Hannah’s background of abuse.

If you enjoy books with a small town feel, populated with fun primary and secondary characters and writing that feels so easy and flows without any bumps, I’d recommend The Lullaby Sky. It’s the first book I’ve read by Carolyn Brown, but it won’t be my last.

Will their old bond be enough to save their love—or will they come to accept that some things just aren’t meant to last?

This was a quick enjoyable read that offered a plot that brought something different. Young Zamya ‘Mya’ Daniels just lost her father and felt that being committed to Guy Lawson was a lot of pressure for her. So she left him and the country to live with her mother for two years. The chapter opens with Mya in route to Cedar Bend. Guy hasn’t been notified that Mya is returning; so her return is a shock to him. This shock brings about the question: will Mya be able to win Guy’s trust and heart back?

I enjoyed this book and how the author brought something new as a plot. The book opens with a twist and gives the reason for Guy’s distrust and wounded heart. I was curious how or if this relationship could be saved. Guy’s heart was broken and cut deep when Mya left him. I felt the attraction and desire that Guy had towards Mya; though Mya expressed her feelings for Guy I didn’t really feel that her love was shown. It was more so she was living for the Guy she remembered two years ago and expected him to pick up where she left off.

This story gave a powerful statement on forgiveness and second chances. Guy is written as a strong and dedicated man. I like how he stands his ground to the mayor and even to Mya. The way Mya just popped back into his life he kept his guard up. Mya seemed kind of unsure of what she wanted. She felt the need to come back to Guy when she got ready. She seemed selfish to me in wanting Guy to have feelings for her, and wanting him to make a place for her in his life.

Mya wasn’t the most likable character to me, but the writing was sweet and I wanted Mya and Guy to end up together. In some way it just felt like after all they’ve been through they would work through their issues and have a happy ending together.

This is a sweet read that will be sure to tug on readers that enjoy a well written happy romance.
