Despite these problems, and their developing love, the Prince Balam and Sienna keep their honor in check. Both are very likeable characters that readers can relate to.

Their deadly enemies present such obstacles that we get to see Prince Balam and Sienna at their best, facing such situations. Some enemies are obvious. However, others, not so much. There is a mystery here. The two suspect certain people of being against them, but are they? The author has done a good job surprising readers at different points. The plot moves along at a fast pace, making this a page-turner. The setting is exotic and therefore fun to read. Sometimes though, certain things are confusing. Does Sienna believe Prince Balam in the beginning or not? And there is some telling and not showing, which distances the reader a bit. However, this is not a common problem in the book. Near the end there was a drastic turnaround of events. I found myself wishing certain things were explained better because there was a bit of a jump. I did really enjoy the book though and was satisfied with the very ending. I recommend this to those who love time travels or exotic settings.

I think my heart beat overtime whenever Eliza explored the hunkiness that is the Duke of Wycliff. I don’t even have the caliber of vocabulary to adequately describe the sensual and commanding presence the hero embodied when he was on stage. His effect on the heroine was pure heat and at times they combusted from their shared passion – as forbidden as it was. The scenes that led up to those moments, the buildup and delivery, were sublime and that’s due to the solid writing talent of Ms. Rodale.

There’s adventure, close calls and narrow escapes. There are characters that flavor and color the story and contribute significant amounts of excitement, thrills, drama, suspense, laughter and even assistance in the romance between Wycliff and Eliza. The novel has it all.

Eliza is a clever minx who does what she has to in order to remain employed at a newspaper. Her personal epiphany comes from finally coming to terms with the question – what and who is she willing to sacrifice just to get a story published? How far is she willing to go? The answer was satisfying but not without peril and personal cost. Great story hook!

As for Wycliff – readers are just going to have to pick up their own copy to find out what’s in the secret room, how he came to have such impressive tattoos and if he realizes his deepest desire.

I think one of the most sensual scenes takes place while planting seeds. There are more depths to the Duke than anyone suspects. Again, it makes for page-turning reading.

I almost missed the epilogue because I thought it was promo for the next book in the series. Ha! That was exceptionally clever of the author and I enjoyed the final wrap-up. I’m wondering if the Duke’s rival will have his own story someday – a reader can hope.

Historical fans are really missing out if they’ve yet to read The Tattooed Duke. It’s going on my keeper shelf. I adored Wycliff!!!

When I read the scene with Boodle, the valet, and his choice of … colors and styles that he expected North to wear, I couldn’t help but snicker. I prefer a man to look like a man. When North came back from the war, he refused to suffer wearing ‘high fashion’ any longer. Thank goodness. What followed was deliciously sexy and delightful.

Poor Diana. She’s eaten up with guilt, duty and trauma from being manipulated and ridiculed by her mother. In spite of those emotional burdens, she loves kids, is a hard worker and accepts what she expects to be her lot in life. Little does she know, there’s a certain someone who knows a lot more than they’re letting on. In a way, I get the impression that there’s a nod to Cinderella in this tale and it works wonderfully.

In Wilde in Love, there was a heroic skunk and I was tickled that there was an honorable mention in this book. In fact, there were some specific references that make me wonder if this novel could be considered a standalone read. I like to think so. I guess it’s because North and Diana were the main focus. Even so, the effect of the secondary characters seemed more profound because I had read the previous book and I had a sense of ‘homecoming’ especially when I was surrounded by the Wilde clan. They’re a fun, loud and loving family.

Readers who enjoy seeing lovers express their passion in the physical sense will have ample opportunity to see North and Diana in action. What shocked me the most was how Diana came to know as much as she did, intellectually speaking, and from whom. I didn’t see that coming.

As I said in the beginning, there is a satisfying epilogue that wraps it all up in the end but Ms. James also delivers an irresistible lure – Lavinia’s discovery. After that scene, the author has me wrapped around her literary finger and I’m enthusiastically eager for the next novel. This is going to be awesome!

So, in conclusion, Too Wilde to Wed is a must read. There’s much to adore in this novel and I’m delighted to share my enthusiasm with other fans. It’s an awesome romance!

Basil Khoury, the main character in “The Last Voyage,” awoke in an unfamiliar room with no memory of how he’d ended up there. This was by far the least bizarre experience of his day, especially once he began meeting other people whose memories of his past contradicted his own. I did figure out what was going on very early on in the storyline. It would have been helpful to have fewer clues about where Basil was and why he had such a large gap in his memories.

There were some stories in this collection that I had a hard time following. “The Man from Nantucket” was one of them. It followed a detective around after he was hired by an angry father to find his daughter’s slimy ex-boyfriend who had abandoned her. The narrator’s decision to avoid using people’s names as much possible in this tale made it difficult to know who was who. I was also confused by how the ending was supposed to be related to everything that had happened before it. There simply weren’t enough clues for me to piece everything together.

In “Sacrifices,” members of a space colony had to decide how to react when Karen, one of their colleagues, was violently murdered. One of the things I liked the most about this mystery was how many layers it had. Nothing about Karen’s murder or the subsequent investigation into who was responsible for it was simple. Every hint had to be weighed carefully against the ones that came before it, and that made for a rewarding reading experience for me.

The Last Voyage and Other Stories is a good choice for fans of the mystery and science fiction genres alike.

We have a young singer, Christine, who has to stand in for the star, Carlotta (who, although not ill, is so much of a diva that she refuses to come to rehearsal so she can rest her voice for the opening night). We also have Raoul who has loved Christine all her life (in the modern day version, she is in love with Raoul’s brother, who is missing). Erik is still the “phantom” but this Erik is not scarred physically. He is, however, very scarred mentally due to torture that the reader finds out about during flashbacks he experiences.

There were several minor editing issues that occasionally took me out of the story, but that probably wouldn’t bother most people. I also never really understood Erik’s motivation in wanting to take over the Opera House – but then again, he was disturbed. However, even with that, the storyline itself was so compelling I was drawn right back into the story.
The characters were well-drawn and I found myself invested in them—wanting to discover what would happen next. Of the supporting characters, one of my favorite was Madame Giraud, the psychic concierge of the theatre, who (like her counterpart Madame Giry) hears the actual Phantom.

There is a lot of action going on and some beautiful descriptions of the opera house. It was fun reading through the book and seeing the parallels between it and the original. All in all, a good addition to the Phantom genre.

Being thrown into the middle of the action is not an issue excepting the occasional confusing moment.

Hannah was kidnapped and harmed but later saved. She and other characters have painful emotional journeys to go through. The author does a great job at helping his readers understand just what this feels like for each of these characters. Some must recover from damaging things done to them, must overcome self-doubt, and some must work out regret. These people are growing. They are complex, and we come to understand them.

This very emotional tale was written to reflect the immediacy of feelings. The conversations are insightful. The action is told through the dialogue though. If one wants action, it comes with this story, but not first hand. It’s all in the remembering.

There are some spicy scenes but not with new or hoped for love. Rather, these scenes are about happily married couples. Trust issues are examined and sometimes in charming and unexpected ways. This little story was worth the read.

Ms. Spear has a winner! The first chapter set things up kind of slow but isn’t that how a roller coaster starts? Once you reach the top, it’s a downhill ride filled with speed, chills, thrills and WhooHoos! That’s the fun of All’s Fair in Love and Wolf. Once this novel gets going it’s a great read and is nearly impossible to put down once the chase is on.

The attraction between Jenna and Sarandon started within a most unusual circumstance and I think that’s what hooked me. Sure, there’ve been plenty of stories that use the trope of the lawman falling in love with his prisoner but this time, Jenna is the one with the Taser and Sarandon is her prisoner. Well, he was supposed to be. That’s when things got interesting.

I’m not sure if I can call this a standalone read because of all the secondary characters who help the hero and heroine solve the mystery, and the roles they played in doing so. What was cool is the added hook of discovering a new and unknown mystery that rocked all of Silver Town. What Jenna, Sarandon, his brothers and the rest of both their families stumble upon is bigger than anyone could have imagined. There are more victims and skeletons from the past that have a major impact on their present and I was wowed.

Seriously, there are so many threads interwoven I was stunned to see how Ms. Spear made it all interconnect. The author really impressed me with her deft handling of so many people and their personalities while keeping what was happening with Jenna and Sarandon center stage. Their romance is the point of the book but it’s couched in some pretty exciting stuff.

When it comes to Sarandon and Jenna finally committing to a wolf marriage, it was everything I look for. The sensual buildup was well done so when they admitted their love and sealed it as a wolf and she-wolf do, I was more than ready for it to happen. I really was happy for the both of them but Ms. Spear didn’t let the postcoital bliss last long and I was tumbled back into the action. Bad guys have no respect. *wink*

I really appreciated the epilogue that Ms. Spear included because it made this novel practically perfect. This review only hints at the excitement within this novel’s pages and there’s a lot I’m not saying. The impact of discovery is half the fun. The happy ever after was truly happy and that made me feel great. All’s Fair in Love and Wolf is a must read for all fans of Ms. Spear.

Wow! Just Wow! Give me a minute to clear my romance-foggy brain and rejoin reality. Never mind, I really don’t want to. Ugh, I just want to continue living in Rydstrom Hall with Crispin, the hero, Jacinda, the heroine, and Rydstrom Hall’s staff. Sigh…Why does life have to get in the way of my fantasy world? I read this book in 24 hours. I stopped to eat, potty and a few hours of shut eye. I ignored my husband, teenage sons and my beloved dog. It was worth every minute.

This was my first Vivienne Lorret novel. The cover says “USA Today Bestselling Author”. I believe it. It was amazing. The writing style was top notch. I felt like I was watching a movie. At times I felt like I was physically in the room with the characters. I was so absorbed in the story that I couldn’t tell you what was going on around me.

The plot flowed effortlessly even with all the intricate narrative threads. The cast of characters were thoroughly developed and tangled together in a way that was spellbinding.

I’m so excited that this was book one in the Misadventures in Matchmaking series. I am very excited to know that the next Misadventures in Matchmaking novel will be released early 2019.

The heroine, Jacinda, was hilarious. I lost count how many times she made me laugh. Her relationship with Crispin made for an entertaining and heartwarming love story. The synopsis caught my interest and if it catches yours then please don’t hesitate to read this book. I can see this story being made into a movie. There was so much depth to it. My favorite characteristic of “How to Forget a Duke” was the conversations between Jacinda and Crispin. They were truly the perfect match. The buildup of chemistry between them was epic. I consider this a spicy book with a respectable presence. By the time they exchanged their first kiss I was more than ready for it to happen and I wasn’t disappointed.

I’d like to duly note that not everything is this romance book was peaches and cream. Crispin’s Aunt Hortense added some conflict to the romance and there is a character that I can’t mention that pulled at my heart strings. Crispin and Jacinda had their own inner battles to contend with. All of which only enhanced my interest to continue flipping pages to seek the culmination. Other honorable character mentions are Jacinda’s sisters and her uncle. I imagine we’ll read about them in the upcoming books since they make up the Bourne Matrimonial Agency which is the basis of this series.

The best part is, there was an epilogue! Oh, how I love when a well written story ends with one. It usually makes for a spectacular book glow. In this case it created the desire to remain in the story rather than deal with reality of switching the wash, emptying the dish washer, and sweeping the floor. Ugh…Crispin take me away!

Venture back to the old west with The Trail To Love and fall in love, just like Sarah did. Most of the story takes place during a wagon train to Oregon and poor Sarah is determined to be independent on her way to marry a man she’s never met. Her son, Tommy, is cute as a bug and mostly written in an age appropriate manner. He’s only four, but in those days kids were expected to carry more responsibility than they do now, so some of his behavior may have felt a little older than I’m used to, but didn’t feel out of place in the time.

Jack is a great hero. Devastated by the loss of a wife he loved deeply, and imprisoned by the promise he made to her, he struggles to keep his feelings for Sarah from growing. Thankfully, this is a romance novel, and he fails. Sarah is promised to another mail as a mail order bride, so also needs to deny what she feels. They’re a cute couple and the addition of Tommy made their growing relationship fun, sweet and believable.  There is also a wonderful cast of secondary characters as well.  Lucky Sarah had a couple great female friends. Mary, from her home town, who helped her figure out what to do when Sarah’s husband died. And Greta who was part of the wagon train and supported, mentored and just cared about Sarah on the trip.  I really, really liked Greta.

The author did a good job with the setting, and the descriptions were thorough, but I have to admit that I was so wrapped up in the characters themselves I didn’t really care about where they were. It’s true that the situation couldn’t have happened in another time, but really the story was very much character-centric and, for me anyway, that’s a good thing.  I love it when I’m so crazy about the characters I’d read about them doing just about anything.

Only two little things niggled for me. Horace was so evil. All stories should have a good villain, but he was almost a caricature and had literally nothing good. It made me wonder why they even hired him as a guide if his predilections toward women were so well known. His behavior was a bit over the top and didn’t feel as believable as I would have liked. Also, the way she was able to resolve her conundrum with the man in Oregon felt a little too easy, but I have a feeling the tree might have helped a bit with that. *G*

I keep calling this book “sweet”, but know that doesn’t extend to the love scenes. They aren’t numerous, but they are hot and descriptive. Sarah had an abusive marriage so had never been honestly “made love” to before. Jack is definitely up to the job and shows her what real lovemaking is all about.

All in all, a satisfying romance. The Soul Mate Tree is an interesting idea, and I’m enjoying reading how each author incorporates it into their stories and makes it work for them. A great idea and thus far handled in really awesome ways!
