I have so much that I want to say about this book, so let me make this review short and to the point. Go. Buy. This. Book!

Rescued By the Scot is book three and the final book in the series Romancing the Spies. I did read the other two books and was very excited to read this story and I was not disappointed! In fact I want to go back and read all three again!

I was already in a book relationship with the hero, Zane Maxwell, since he was deeply involved in the unresolved treason plot in the previous books. I had a feeling that Zane Maxwell’s story was going to be epic and it was. I knew Zane’s story was going to involve a mystery leading lady and I can’t give enough compliments about this character, Skye MacKinnon. Together Zane and Skye make a delicious spicy romance.

I have a healthy imagination and yet it blows my mind how a writer can come up with a plot that leaves me craving more. Laura A. Barnes is definitely on my favorite author list. I love, love, love the Romancing the Spies series!
It felt very good to be reunited with the characters, Thorn, Ivy, Charles and Raina. I enjoyed reading how they all saved their beloved land of England from the despicable villain, Shears. I was hoping for an orgasmic demise and I received more than I had hoped for. Man, I really want to talk more about that but that would spoil the fun for other readers.
If I was asked if this book could be read as a stand alone I’d answer that it could but I wouldn’t recommend that. It would be like eating a hamburger without the bun or condiments. You could but why would you do that?

If I possessed a stamp of approval then this book would get triple stamped! I love when a book grips me and takes me on an entertaining joy ride filled with unexpected adventure. Rescued by the Scot will be going on my keeper shelf. If you have space on your keepers shelf then give this book a try. If you don’t have any more space then go buy a new shelf because this should absolutely be added!

On the lam together, they end up stuck in a snowstorm. By the time the snowplows dig them out, they’re a lot more than traveling companions.

In desperate need of money, Val hadn’t minded marrying herself in name only to a man who needed to get Immigration off his back. But fifteen minutes before the ceremony, being told she was expected to play the part for real, Val backed out and fled, terrified. Running away to Texas by hitching a lift with the cowboy brother of her friend, Val is determined to pay the money back to her almost-ex-husband and move on with her life. Cisco is trying to claw his way back onto the large rodeo circuit. Battered and bruised but still with plenty of gumption and heart, Cisco knows what it’s like to be fighting for a better life, but Val has trouble stamped all over her and he’s not sure just how involved he really wants to get.

I found this to be a fun and interesting story and was thrilled that there were a few plot twists and turns that I totally didn’t expect to see coming. I loved that the author kept me on my toes and eagerly turning the pages, wondering what on earth would happen next. Val and Cisco are both in very different places in their life but they share something subtle in common – both of their lives have taken a turn for the worse lately and they’re both equally determined to get back on track and rebuild what they’ve lost. I adored both Val and Cisco’s characters – their grit, strength and compassion for each other really helped make this story memorable for me.

The only slight disappointment I had was that toward the end there was a slight conflict/miscommunication which felt a little clichéd to me. Considering so many other parts of the plot and twists were fresh and surprising this made it even more noticeable to me that I didn’t quite believe the reasons behind this conflict.

The plot is fairly straight forward and there’s no mystery as to who the villain of the piece is, but I enjoyed the pacing and found that there was plenty of time for me as a reader to enjoy both Val and Cisco’s characters. There was a believable amount of time and plot that occurred before they jumped into bed and I was pleased that while the intimacy shared between them was descriptive and explicit, I didn’t personally find it over the top. The scenes are certainly spicy though and more traditional romance readers might find them a little too hot for their personal tastes.

I found this to be a great story full of realistic characters, a believable plotline and enough action to keep the pace moving along. I enjoyed the steamy chemistry and found the sex to be enticing and tastefully written. A great story and an author I will happily read more of.

Horse trainer Stone Dempsey’s life is all about the ride—with horses and women. He uses his equine talents to impress the country club set and earn money for Smoky Mountain Reining Horses. Dr. Emmersyn Cole’s goal of starting a practice in her favorite place on earth is finally coming to fruition and she is not going to be sidetracked. Everything is going great until Stone swaggers into her life, half-dressed with a smile that could melt her insides. She’s determined to keep her distance…until he rushes into her grandfather’s home, clutching a feverish baby, terrified and vulnerable, and her heart’s hard shell begins to crack.

In only a few short weeks, Stone’s wayward heart suddenly relies on two women—one who needs him—and one that he might not be able to live without.

Stone can’t help but be attracted to pretty women, but he’s a little gun-shy when it comes to chasing after the delectable Dr. Emmy – his boss’s grand-daughter. Emmy knows full well that while Stone was an exceptional horse trainer, genuinely one of the best, but his personal reputation was that he’d chase pretty much anything pretty in a skirt. And while Stone might make her mouth dry and her knees weak, Emmy doesn’t want her heart broken. Can they each resist the temptation of the other?

I found this to be a fun and wonderfully warm-hearted cowboy style story. Despite his hound-dog ways, Stone was written in a light and cheerful manner and I found myself instantly warming to his character. Being fairly confident that he’d fall head over heels for Emmy just made his eventual blind-siding even more wonderful to read. I also really enjoyed Emmy’s character – I found her strong and relatable and while understandably cautious over Stone’s philandering reputation she didn’t get her knickers in a twist over it or hold his previous conquests over his head in a way I often find unbearable in a heroine. They each went into the eventual relationship with their eyes open and with open hearts and this was just lovely to read and experience with them both.

This has all the elements of a really good romance story to my mind: two strong and capable characters, a few small bumps along the road with easily-addressed misconceptions, a sick little baby and a small-town, cowboy style community with plenty of vibrant and interesting secondary characters. Emmy and Stone become intimate from around half-way in the story. Readers should be aware that there are some sizzling love-making scenes that might make more traditional “doors-closed” readers a little wary. But while the scenes are graphic I found them well-written, tasteful and not too over-the-top.

While I can understand some readers might find this story formulaic and “been there done that” I personally would urge most readers to give this book a chance. While sure, I could write out a dot-point of how the story progresses and it would sound tried-and-true – and possibly like a dozen similar stories – the joy I found from this really comes from the characters, their interactions and a warmth from the familiarity of it all. This is like eating your favourite comfort-food-dinner for the thousandth time, while it might at a glance seem similar to dozens of other meals, it still leaves you happy, warm and feeling deeply satisfied.

A solid read with enjoyable characters, a great plot and some steamy romance to keep you eagerly turning the pages I found this to be a great read. Recommended.

Scottish Highlands, 1692. Befell the tragedy of Mort Ghlinne Comhann, also known as the Murder at Glencoe.

Despite his own incongruous past, all Wolfe Stewart wants is a simple life, free from the persecutions of the Crown. And when he rescues a Child of the Mist from an “Asian man who disappears into the snow as if he were never there,” Wolfe has received his wish. However, mysteries still plague him. He gets no answers, but more questions when a familiar stranger arrives with his cousin and Regiment soldiers to take up the hospitality of the MacDonalds of Glencoe for a fortnight.

Little did the clan suspect what would soon befall them. After the massacre on 13 February, 1692, most MacDonalds lay dead, many exposed to the elements perished, homes burned. Wolfe and his friend Fergus are taken away for reasons unknown.

But why would Campbell and his men commit such a hideous and unholy crime? The truth will not be found in history books. The beast behind this tragic night holds nothing but greed within his heart, and using the Jacobite risings as his cover, he gets what he wants and leaves behind death and suffering.

This story stands alone but readers will find that if they read the bigger story, this little tale stands out as an important part of it. Readers get to discover an exciting story through the impassioned journals and letters of characters. This is a piece of the puzzle toward solving a mystery.

Scottish families are divided between loyalty to King William and the Stuarts. Jacobite supporters, the MacDonalds, are ordered killed.

We meet young Wolfe, part of the MacDonald family. He is a charming youngster that readers can’t help but to root for as he experiences such hard times and difficult odds. He and his friends rescue a woman, Isobel, from a stranger who seems to be from the Orient. Oddly, he has disappeared.

Wolfe falls in love with Isobel, and they marry. Then the real trouble begins…

The writing is poetic and fast-paced. The characters are intriguing. For example, the stranger is indeed strange, and there is something dark and evil and supernatural about him.

Wolfe, a teenager at the time was originally from Romania and moved to Scotland when he was eight-years-old. He has heard such legends about creatures such as vampires. The juxtaposition of them and seventeenth-century Scotland is unique and interesting.

Another Scottish family sides with the English and attack the MacDonalds. When they take something precious from Wolfe, he must go down a dangerous path. Readers follow him, on edge, wondering what this beloved character is in store for. Wolfe hears talk of an experiment to be done to his friend, and the mystery deepens.

Wolfe gets trapped. We see his determination as he fights his grief, to get out of his terrible situation. His ordeal makes him heroic.

He learns something shocking about himself, an unexpected twist in the story. The plot has a few unexpected turns, which are well-written. When Wolfe’s life changes dramatically and suddenly, it’s a treat to see how he handles the newness of it. The author has done a great job at letting us see through Wolfe’s eyes. We experience it as he does.

Wolfe has a terrible predicament. He is morally against what he has to do to survive. He seeks out his mother. Will he find her? How will he deal with his hard choices?

This little story is a gem and recommended.

The richest bachelor in England plays matchmaker…for an heiress he wants for himself!

For beautiful, witty Lavinia Gray, there’s only one thing worse than having to ask the appalling Parth Sterling to marry her: being turned down by him.

Now the richest bachelor in England, Parth is not about to marry a woman as reckless and fashion-obsessed as Lavinia; he’s chosen a far more suitable bride.

But when he learns of Lavinia’s desperate circumstances, he offers to find her a husband. Even better, he’ll find her a prince.

Why does the woman who’s completely wrong feel so right in his arms?

Romance perfection can be found within the pages of Born to be Wilde. It’s rocky, silly, snarky, romantic, fun, surprising and engaging, but at all times, entertaining. I knew the relationship between Parth and Lavinia was strained because of the previous books, but to finally get to know why? Priceless and well worth the wait.

The title of the book isn’t based on the song by Steppenwolf but is actually a pointed clue about Parth’s life. The explanation and the story telling that showed me all about it tugged at my heartstrings. When I finally ‘got it’, I was overcome with a reaction I usually reserve for a cute, cuddly puppy that needs reassurance – Awwwwww!

The sparks that fly between Lavinia and Parth, their misunderstandings and assumptions that complicate any attempt at a relationship, all worked to create a dynamically difficult and emotional trial between the two, akin to running the gauntlet. Watching them fall in love in spite of all of that made for excellent reading.

The wedding between Diana and Lord Roland Northbridge Wilde is in the background throughout this novel and culminated in the HEA that I’d been waiting for since I read Too Wilde to Wed. It was wonderful to witness because both Parth and Lavinia were involved too. It was a brilliant wrap-up to add to the fun of this current novel.

The epilogue gave me happy sniffles. If I thought the book was romantic before, the author outdid herself with Lavinia’s final presentation to Parth. It was the most compassionate, convincing, tender and affectionate proof of Lavinia’s complete and pure love for Parth and it made me tear up. This book was a really good read but that scene boosted it up to a whole other level of awesomeness.

Once again, Ms. James set the hook for her next novel. The intense scene regarding Lord Jeremy earlier in the book was a shocker. He’s the epitome of a tortured hero and that was reinforced with his interaction between himself and Becky Wilde. What happened to him that was so bad that it affected him that way? And how in the world would Becky help him? What will she have to do to get through to him? It boggles the mind and creates a craving to read the next book in the series.

So far, every single book has been a winner in this series and Born to be Wilde is no exception. It’s a story too good to miss with characters I would love to know in real life. Fans of the Wilde family are in for a treat. There’s never a dull moment even when I get to meet the most adorable Queen of the Fairies and her court. Wilde antics are the best!

Will heartbreak and deceit keep Jillian and Cade locked in the past? Or will they find the courage to follow their hearts?

The sense of community was strong in this story and I felt as if I was the new kid in town. This was my first Mary Jane Morgan book and I would consider reading other books by her. I enjoyed her writing style as the plot eloquently flowed from beginning to nearly the end capturing my interest the entire time.

Apparently, Choices of the Heart is the last book in The Wedding Chapel Series. I wish I could say that I read the previous books leading up to this final book in the series. I believe I would have enjoyed this book more if I had.

The hero, Cade, was a veterinarian. That is a profession that I have always admired and respected. I have a dog and a cat and we absolutely love our vet. Cade was a compassionate, gorgeous, and slightly insecure man due to his x-wife’s shocking news.

The heroine, Jillian, was in the driver’s seat as far as the budding relationship goes. She knew what she wanted and what she didn’t want and wasn’t willing to compromise. The story was mostly all about her thoughts and feelings. Cade had to decide if he loved her because if he did then he’d change to meet her needs.

I won’t pretend to know what it’s like to lose a spouse. When I read books with this plot I have to trust what I’m reading. I’m sure it’s one of those experiences that no one can understand unless they walk in those shoes. Jillian and Cade had emotional obstacles they needed to work through if they were going to find their happy ever after. They were attracted to each other and their relationship appeared to work. I was able to relate to them as a couple.

This was a heartwarming story that helped pass my time but it wasn’t filled with mirth. In fact the ending left me with mixed feelings of happiness and melancholy. Not my typical book glow euphoria. I’m almost certain that my heart felt this way because the ending was wrapped up in a quick non-elegant fashion with no epilogue.

However, I would recommend this book to others to read. It was a touching romance.

As a Penhallow, his is one of the highest names in the land, but still his family is facing ruin. So Katherine boldly proposes an exchange: his name for her money. But only if Hugo understands it’s merely a practical arrangement, and that she’s not surrendering herself entirely.

Back from eight years in America and determined to give his younger siblings a better life, Hugo agrees. He’s never fallen in love, so why not? Yet neither of them guesses that this marriage will become far, far more than they ever dreamed of . . .

The theme of this novel is hope. Never give up hope even when it seems impossible or implausible because something amazing can happen in ways you’d never expect. Certainly the hero and heroine of The Bride Takes a Groom never imagined life turning out the way it did, for either of them.

Katherine’s parents remind me of another set of parents – those from the movie Matilda. Except, I think Matilda’s real mother was actually nicer than Katherine’s, and that’s saying something. Hugo’s mother is a vast improvement, a bit unique but loving and warm. I enjoyed her character.

The biggest thing I noticed about this book was its delivery. I’ll be honest, at first the letters threw me and I felt it slowed me down. However, it wasn’t long before I understood what the author was doing – Insight. Ms. Berne was giving me insight into her characters and after a while I came to look forward to reading them. Not only were they absolutely fascinating but they served a valuable purpose in the telling of the story.

Another strong element is the romance of it all. I don’t have the words to express the delight of watching Katherine explore her sexuality and the cheeky innocent and inquisitive way she went about things. There was a sense of humor about her actions, words and choices that made reading each scene fun and entertaining. It’s by no means tame; some scenes between Katherine and Hugo were deliciously spicy, yet it contributed to their growing relationship and pushed them further along on the path of love. For some reason, Katherine liked to count. (I grinned writing that last sentence)

There is a darkness that challenged the heroine’s relationship with the hero. It was emotionally hard to read those parts but that’s because of the author’s skill. I was scared, worried and nervous after the ship scene. I felt for sure something bad was going to happen. I couldn’t read fast enough even though I had feelings of dread. The one thing a reader can be sure of is that Katherine loves Hugo. Readers will know what I mean after reading those chapters for themselves.

The wrap up is full of goodness, happiness, hope and adventure. The HEA is engaging, thorough and made me feel good on too many levels to count. In fact, an enemy even becomes a friend. I never, ever expected that. It proved to me that wonderful people are associated with the Penhallow family and forgiveness and love are powerful indeed. I am thrilled I had a chance to read this book. It’s great!

But with a traitor still at large, they must rely on each other in every way, or their clans—and their love—will be destroyed.

When a reader cracks open this book, they’ll find a wonderful mystery filled with intrigue, danger and excitement as two feisty people are faced with betrayal in their very homes. Where can they be safe? Who can they trust? What is going on? Those are just a few of the questions that bombarded my brain as I read Highland Betrayal.

I enjoyed watching the sparks fly between Maggie and Callum. She’s brave, stubborn and clever. She’s already half in love with the hero but he let her down and she’s not going to let him forget it. He’s going to have to earn his way back into her heart. Callum had every intention of coming to claim her but a reader finds out that there are serious complications that stopped him. That doesn’t mean he was going to give her up forever – he still loves her, he just needs to make the heroine believe him. Watching the two of them overcome each their own obstacles was an adventure in itself. The action was steady and it put me on the edge of my seat many times, even the final chapter had surprises, adventure, suspense and a ‘wow!’ moment that lead right up until the happy, happy ever after. Ms. McLayne wrote a novel that kept me wide-eyed and curious for most of the story.

I enjoyed meeting most of the secondary characters and many played important roles in helping Maggie and Callum. There were some who were villains but even one of those was more like a victim too. It kind of broke my heart when I found out the truth.

Readers who enjoy seeing heroes and heroines tease and seduce each other until passion overtakes them will find many satisfying scenes to enjoy. There’s no doubt Maggie and Callum are highly attracted to each other. Their love will not be denied – delayed, but not denied.

The dialogue, interaction and actions and descriptions, and the fact that all the main personalities in the book were so fleshed out, really brought this story to life.

I had a lot of fun reading Highland Betrayal and I think it’s going to be a popular historical romance amongst readers. It’s a classic romantic story with a backdrop of danger. I give this one high marks and a solid recommendation. Don’t pass up an opportunity to read this novel; it’s great!

Romantic suspense is always fun when it’s jam-packed with tough guys, dangerous killers, and biker dudes doing arts & crafts for a wedding, never mind testing recipes and fighting over weird hors d’oeuvres. To Have and to Harley has something for everyone and it’s a great read.

Interspersed with all the fun is some very serious stuff. A family found, a family to dread, a bad boss, and a family to lose – all contribute to a rollercoaster ride of terrific reading. Each chapter introduced a new wrinkle, some humorous, some scary and some were so incredibly romantic and sexy as to sear my fingers from their heat. This novel kept me flipping the pages so fast, this ended up a one day read. I couldn’t put it down – so much happens to, and around, Trey and Bethany that I was hooked. Ms. Cole created very approachable characters with heart, foibles, suspicions, hopes and a growing attraction that soon turns to passion and love. The hero and heroine were perfect together.

The only part that was predicable was when Trey lost his phone. I knew what that meant but it didn’t detract from the drama that unfolded from that point on. My heart still ended up in my throat because I had no idea how anyone could come out safe and unscathed. So exciting!!!

Secondary characters were very important and Ms. Cole used them wisely and effectively. I liked Mrs. Yelverton, Sarah and Trey’s buddies. I met so many wonderful people in this novel that I look forward to seeing them again and find out what happens next, and to whom.

The happy ever after isn’t just about Trey and Bethany. It’s bigger than that and it’s totally awesome. Oh, and the wedding turned out to be unusual but awesome. How it all came together needs to be read to be appreciated. The plans that were made at the end made the HEA that much more special and joyful. I’m very impressed with the first installment of Ms. Cole’s Bikers and Brides series and I bet it’s going to be a new favorite for lot of fans both old and new. Count me as a fan.
