I thought that the Captain was also a well-developed character. His personality is overwhelming to most people but not to Gabrielle. It was obvious to everyone but them that would get together. The attraction and passion between them runs deep. Each touch is electric, and each kiss melts her bones. The love scenes are tastefully done but also do a wonderful job of showing the passion and tenderness between them.

The period is well described and I felt like I was standing in the old era watching what was going on. I felt the motion of the ship, the sun and water on my face and the confusion of trying to learn a new culture. The characters are all different and wonderfully described. I enjoyed the characters of Jacob and a young man named Arnie. Jacob treated Gabrielle like a father, giving her information behind his captains back and helping her adjust to the world she has been thrown into. Young Arnie had lost his leg in the battle, and Gabrielle is the only one that he will talk to. She shows a great deal of mothering abilities, staying with him and helping him to learn that it is not the end of the world that he lost his leg.

It was also fun watching Gabrielle deal with the nobility.  At her first social gathering, a dinner, men were giving her a hard time about her attitude and boldness. She did a magnificent job of defending herself and also proving to the men that a woman can be as smart as a man. She challenges the societal norms all the time. For example, she dressed herself one day because she did not want tot wake up the servants. Another one was when she walked down to the beach by herself to play in the water, not realizing that she needed an escort everywhere she went. Yet her beauty, poise, and wit seems to break down the wall between her and the men.

While things won’t always be perfect and there are obstacles, the fun is finding out how the characters deal with such things.

A wonderful book full of great characters, sea-voyages, historical detail and a wonderful plot. I couldn’t find a thing I would change. I hope you will pick this up and get lost in a romance for all times.

Thanks to Gracie’s stubbornness he ends opening up to her like he has not to others. He struggles every day to keep away from Grace as long as he can but she draws him in. He is not afraid to show her his emotions when he is overwhelmed. He is up front about what their relationship can be.

The story unfolds slowly, like a disjointed but beautiful waltz. Mike and Gracie’s passion runs high. They trust and admire each other and the foundation of a stable relationship is built. Lessons are learned and the mystery…well, you’ve got to read this book to figure that out. It’s well worth the read.

I honestly enjoyed this story. I must caution against reading it while hungry. The heroine, Lena, is a chef. The writer, Chelle de Notte, does an incredible job of describing Lena’s food creations. While I am mentioning the authors writing style I need to share how much I appreciated her attention to detail when describing New York City at Christmas time. I’ve never been and someday hope to see the famous Christmas decorations myself.

Christmastime in New York City was a heartwarming romance that was over before I wanted it to be. I adored the hero, Ryan for his dedication to running his dad’s farm and his loyalty to family and friends. Which points to the fact that the side characters were well developed and relatable. We never met Lena’s family other than her ex-husband who had a small appearance. Mostly the side characters for Lena were her co-workers. One in particular, the bartender, was very contemporary. Over all the cast of characters were a nice blend.

The chemistry between Lena and Ryan was a classic romance. I like how they respected each other and didn’t rush into anything right away. It was nice to watch their love for one another grow and develop. They were mature, responsible and clearly attracted to each other. I was wishing the snow storm would never stop so that Ryan could stay snowbound in New York forever.

The only plot thread that bothered me was Ryan’s dad. I felt bad for him in the end but it was obviously his dad’s issue to work through. Unfortunately, this scenario is all to realistic.

The ending was pretty good. It left me with a satisfying read. I’d recommend this book. It’s was a great way to relax during my camping trip.

Yet when their fate turns, he finds that he cannot leave the female, a witchbreed, his cell-mate, who is dying.

I loved meeting Falco and Calista in this story, and loved how even after reading the first book, I felt like I was seeing this world as in once again for the first time with these new characters. This world is so vast and well thought-out, I can see this book being one that would speak to many readers. I first started this series because of the Fae/fantasy elements, but have quickly added it to one of my favorite series!

The romance and fantasy are both strong elements in this book, but it’s also full of rich world-building and complex characters that go beyond!

I liked Santo and even though he went through torture for years, he’s mostly a well-adjusted guy. I say mostly because he has a few quirks he needs to work out. I really liked Pet, short for Petronella. Her family history is fascinating and I know, just KNOW that we’ll be seeing a book about her sister in the future. Same thing for her nephew, Parker. Pet’s whole family is part of the story and conflict and it’s a doozey.

Fans of the series know that some of the Argeneau family always pops up and this is no exception. Marguerite, her husband and a few others stop by to conduct a stake out and end up helping Santo and Pet when things get dicey as well as complicate the romance at the most embarrassing moments. They’re such a helpful family. Always listening in when the main characters wished they wouldn’t. Too funny,

The happy ever after is like nothing you’d expect. It starts off like a lot of dream sequences do, but there’s a significant twist that’s adorable and genius at the same time. The Zodiac comment just slayed me. I really, really like Pet.

The Trouble with Vampires focuses mostly on the romance and Ms. Sands does it justice. I heartily recommend this novel. I enjoyed it.

The twist presented a whole new can of worms that the hero didn’t want because he knew that it was going to cost him what he held most dear. Verity’s staunch opinions and pursuit of righteousness didn’t mesh with the role that was thrust upon Ash. So, how were they going to reconcile their past history with the change in present circumstances to reach for a future they both wanted? A wrinkle to their success lies with Verity; I had no idea how she’d reason things out. It was those questions that kept me glued to the plot.

What kept throwing me out of the plot was the slow pace things moved. I blame that on Verity. She’s a bit stubborn. She was also long of wind about her pet peeves and worries. What kept me moving forward was Ash. His diagnosis is one I have knowledge of because of one of my kids. I want for my child what Ash had. Roger was his mentor, one who not only guided him in a trade, but stood by him when the effects of his ailment manifested. I really, really wish that my child could find someone like that to support him as he navigates through life, to find a measure of success and independence – someone to keep him safe when the worst happens. That is a mother’s wish. Because of that, Ash’s happiness mattered to me.

The intrigue and complications that really spiced up the conflict was found at Arundel house. The revelations were astounding. And I really liked Ash’s aunt. She was a wonderful addition to the story.

What shocked me, to the point that I had to re-read the sentence five times, was something that I was not expecting and I thought maybe it was a typo. No, Portia, Verity’s previous best friend, ‘friend’ and friendly staunch ally played a role in Verity’s life that I did not expect, nor have seen in any historical romance book I’ve read so far. It was handled in a blasé, nonchalant and conversational manner. It was described as a fait accompli but it certainly made Verity the most unusual heroine I’ve ever read about. The same could be said for Portia as a secondary character.

I loved Ash’s rascally cat who made an indelible impression in the epilogue. I chortled for sure. The happy ever after was excellent and I enjoyed every paragraph. All the most important threads were tied up for Ash and Verity. But, and you know there’s a but, a hook for the next book in the series was set out and it ensnared me. It’s a toss-up as to who it’s going to be about but one thing is for sure, scandal is not out of the question.

Wow, talk about a dark cloud overhanging a family. One that has taken victims for quite a few generations until it comes to our hero, Hunt. He’s full of vim and vigor, strength and a healthy sense of fun. Okay, maybe not so healthy based on his actions in the inn. But it did produce one thing – an interest in a feisty visitor from England. Not to mention that the whole scene garnered quite of few giggles and snickers as I read through it. It was rather fun.

Clara is unusual in many ways but she’s a fast thinker. What she came up with to avoid actually marrying that other guy was daring and fraught with risk but she doesn’t shy away from challenge. That’s a good thing because winning Hunt’s heart is not easy, especially when he finds out about her lie. The lie that always gets revealed at the most inopportune moment ever is a well-used trope but Ms. Jordan used it effectively and with excellent results. More good reading.

The main crux of the conflict is Hunt’s impending death. Too many things happen for Clara to discount it as impossible, as a superstition. That there might be something to it? That reality propelled their relationship towards a direction that a reader can see is the key to developing their attraction into true love. It’s rocky, it’s tender, it’s passionate and it’s what kept me glued to this novel’s pages.

I really, truly believed that Hunt’s grandmother hated Clara. I didn’t doubt it for a second. Clara amazed me by not acting like a typical heroine who’s been threatened. That part clearly illustrated her strength of character, and made her a worthy match for Hunt.

The ending was truly happy, enchantingly adorable and filled with love and a bright future. The epilogue ensured a reader that all is well on all fronts and it was refreshing. The fly in the ointment, so to speak, comes from the solid tease about Clara’s best friend, Marian, and what could possibly cause this practical, stoic and efficient young lady to panic. That’s a book screaming to be read and I’m so grateful it’s coming out later this year. Sign me up because if it’s as good a story as This Scot of Mine then I’m in for another good time. Bring it on.

This is a wonderful book full of great characterization and wonderfully detailed scenery. Zach is incredibly strong, although he is on the smallish size. On the first night, Zach learns how Tom controls his gang: through fear and violence. It was fun to see Zach stand up and he does not stand bullies. He lets Tom know what he thinks of him and as a punishment Tom held him underwater until he was half-drowned. That is why Layton is so drawn to him and wishes he could do what Zach does. From the beginning you can see the connection between the two of them. Zach sees the kindness and he can see the sadness in his eyes.

Layton is such a sweet character, he tries his best to protect Zach. I enjoy him learning from Zach that love can happen and dreams can come true. His only comfort was his horse Tam. Their interaction is so sweet, it shows how much love Layton has to offer. He makes sure that she is cared for before himself. He also taught her tricks and she will do anything for him.

Zach gets to see this side of Layton when they are forced to stay the Bell farm because Zach had gotten sick. The interaction of the three can’t help but warm you heart. My favorite scene is when they ride out to get purple thistle flowers just because Tam loves them. Layton learns from Zach how to love, how to pleasure another man, how to be brave.

Their relationship is a slow burn, each day they get to know each other and love a little more. Then there is the taboo of being gay back in that time. Layton is afraid for Tom or anyone else at the farm to find out how much he loves Zach.

One of my favorite scenes is when they are on the road to the inn where Zach will be sold, and Zach lets Tom know what he really thinks about him, telling him that he is a bully and that he is heartless. You can tell that nobody has done this to Tom before. He knocks Zach around and then Tom pulls out his belt to whip him. Yet Layton takes the punishment instead. This is the first times he goes against Tom’s wishes.

I can’t tell you about how beautiful the scenery is. It makes you want to go back in time just to see the wild west. The stars so clear that you can see them easily, and fresh water in beautiful rivers. Layton is the one to show how hard but beautiful the wild west can be.

There is one thing that I could change. I believe it could have been a little shorter. The scenes at the farm are wonderful but it does slow the story and lost my attention at times.

A lovely western novel with a sweet love story. The characters are well developed and the wonder of the west lays before you. A fun book and a great read.

This author writes a good ghost story. She makes it sound reasonable and even gives the ghost a motive for her actions. She also adds some danger to the story to keep you reading. Her writing style is smooth and easy to read. I enjoyed this read.

The first thing that Callie discovers is that there’s something odd about the house. Not just the fact that it’s run down and needs repair, it seems to have a reputation. But no one wants to tell about it. That is, no one until she goes to lunch and the two old ladies working there are happy to share the gossip. The house has a ghost. A ghost from long ago. Callie decides if there’s a ghost there, she’ll try to befriend it.

With a boy the police chief doesn’t like helping her, she starts to put the place back together again. She thinks the boy is OK. The chief just sees all the trouble he’s been in. He is a good kid, he just experiences things he can’t understand or explain. He sees ghosts…

With a creaking rocker, a bedroom door that locks itself, and other oddities, Callie begins to feel afraid in the house herself. There’s a good reason for that. There’s one more secret about the house and it’s become the most dangerous thing in town.

The antagonism between the chief and Callie suddenly disappears and they realize they are attracted to each other. Is that a good or a bad thing? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
